The other day, I overheard a young mother in the grocery store tell her friend that her six-month-old had “spiked” a fever of 103, so she called the doctor who prescribed Acetaminophen and an antibiotic.
I had to bite my tongue.
Really? What’s wrong with a fever? And more importantly, giving such monumentally controlling drugs to an infant? Drugs that have never been tested on children?
How could a pediatrician be so wrong??
And with impunity?
I must remind myself that it’s not unusual for medicine to offer botched-up advice. In fact, I contend that most everything after the diagnosis is tendered is twaddle.
Not only is the practice of pediatrics in lockstep with this, but they often lead the way.
This is where a mother gets her training, and a child learns that the only person to trust for health is the doctor.
Mothers have learned how not to learn.
Where did this all start? One germination field was with the Father of American Pediatrics, L. Emmett Holt, M.D.
In his popular book, “The Care and Feeding of Children,” he instructed mothers to let their newborn infant cry so that the lungs can expand. And this should take place every day from 15-30 minutes.
He says, “This is necessary for health. It is the baby’s exercise.”
More importantly, this American pediatric terrorist offered his readers a glimpse into what he thinks babies are.
“A nursery fence two feet high, made to surround a mattress, is an excellent device and makes a convenient box stall for the young animal” (my emphasis) “where it (my emphasis again) can learn to use both its (there it is again) arms and legs without the danger of injury.”
Gotta love those pediatricians. They may get it wrong, but they act like they know anyhow.
What else have they gotten wrong?
Well, there’s the tonsillectomy craze that has lessened only slightly over the last century for any tonsil that dares to stand proud.
Then there were the warnings to mothers that nursing their babies was barbaric and unscientific.
This medical opinion influenced two generations of mothers to commit to sugary baby formula instead of offering precious breast milk.
Something about these guys makes me think they were disdainfully viewing mothers and their offspring like they were members of a lost barbarian tribe or something.
Lest we forget the Accutane debacle; allow me to remind you that it was regularly prescribed by pediatricians for any pimple that tried to imitate a tonsil.
The drug was eventually yanked from the market, but not before it caused birth defects and suicides.
And now we have the birth control pill or shot (whichever your child prefers) for anything from menstrual pain to acne to an opportunity for the docs to train young girls to, “take control of their sexuality as young as possible.”
It makes me nauseous just writing this.
But not to worry, I can get Compazine suppositories from a pediatrician for that, too.
These, my friends, are the reasons I learned how to treat my children's ailments myself.
This was my 3-part strategy:
I purchased a stethoscope. And no, I didn’t wear it like a badge around my neck to elevate my status but rather taught myself to use it to listen for lung infections. Read below about what I used for bronchitis.
I had planned to buy an otoscope, but since every time one of my kids got an ear infection and I gave them the homeopathic, the problem was resolved within 3-6 hours and the need was simply no longer necessary, so I went no further. This saved me a few hundred dollars.
2. I read and studied everything I could get my hands on related to the subject of homeopathy and curing my family myself.
3. I sought out mentors and studied their works unceasingly.
One of my favorite books that had a weighty influence on my thinking back in the early 1980s was Dr. Robert Mendelsohn’s book, “How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor.“
One of his chapter subtitles underscores his position further.
It's titled, “The Key to Health: Stay Away From Doctors!”
Ok, you get the idea. I was fixed on not allowing an antibiotic, Tylenol, nor steroid to touch my animal’s (Ahem. I mean child’s) lips.
I also made the commitment early on that to leave my infant alone for 15 minutes per day to scream was cruel and might be considered child abuse.
Instead, I often nursed them when they cried. I at least tended to them.
Indeed, I was like a beastly savage with a stethoscope, books and remedy kit.
You can be one, too.
The remedy I found most useful for when my kids got bronchitis
With my stethoscope, I listened for crackling sounds in the lungs. (Not a difficult thing to master, by the way). Then, I’d administer Kali carb 200, every 3-6 hours. Sometimes, I’d consider Antimonium tart 200 if Kali Carb 200 didn’t show improvement within about 24 hours.
Not perfection, just improvement.
That usually followed days later.
Ipecac 30 was often my choice for an accompanying nagging cough.
Contrast this with a pediatrician or pulmonologist who would have ordered x-rays, followed by drugs, drugs, drugs.
Whether it was pneumonia, or simply a chest cold, the above remedies would be correct.
No x-rays, no drugs, no more lung infection.
And at home.

My passion is to get homeopathy into the hands of mothers across the world.
I have been where you are now. I’ve dieted, taken supplements, bioidentical hormones, essential oils, herbs – but nothing, nothing has ever come close to the reproducible, safe, and effective results I and my clients have achieved with homeopathy. To see the full syllabus for my Feminopathy course and read the testimonials of other women who have been helped by my Practical Homeopathy® methods, click here.
Together we can get the word to mothers and grandmothers across the globe while curing our loved ones.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Thank you for returning blog–I love reading your wonderful advice.
It seems like I get everything you write about before you write about it 🙁
Joette,
I’d say you hit that nail on the head, Joette. In fact, if one is capable of learning, folks of any age would be well to stay away from the Dr. as much as possible. A year ago I purchased the top 100 remedies kit, and I use it for someone in my family (including pets) nearly every week. I’ve learned so much, and feel so empowered to be able to handle minor illnesses at home, before they become major illnesses. I’m amazed how quickly the well-chosen remedy works, as contrasted with pharmaceuticals, and with no side effects. For that reason alone, I can see why the FDA is threatened by homeopathics. I hope you’ll address that news topic and encourage your readers to take action to protect this valuable resource for health.
Wonderful!! I could not agree more! my family…sister, brothers, have thought me stupid all my life. why Because I hate Dr and won’t go. for years I only went to Bronchitis and strep. Because I didn’t know what else to do. I would not have now for 3 year if I had gotten either. My BFF tried to tell me back in our 20’s how I NEED to get a pap smear. I never have, never will. She is now asking me what to get natural and or Homeoeopaticly for things. I usually give her Homeopathy. I did give them some ess oils too. to use in house to rid germs after getting bugs. She has been sold now on Hoemopathy after I sent her your PTSD article. her girl was raped. IT HAS HELPED ALOT!!!!! thank you thank you thank you. great to see my honorary niece doing so much better!
I love stories like yours, so thank you for sharing. And then there’s your name and email address. It paints a lovely image.
thanks. a friend calls me Buttons. another Suzire Homemaker. been on here for 2 or 3 years. changed name because sibs google me. so use the assumed name so they can’t find me to make waves. all because I don’t vac and don’t go to Dr.s with 3 year old.
Hi Joette,
Is it OK to take the homeopathic kit on air travel (10 hour international flight) or will the remedies be antidoted?
Do you offer a kit option with mostly 200C remedies?
Thanks,
Paula
I travel with my 2 kits (30th potency and 200th) abroad and have not had a problem. I try to keep them from x-ray-ing, but despite inadvertently being exposed, they still function fully. some of my rems have gone through the washing machine and drier, thanks to my teen sons and their ski parkas!
Thanks, Joette. How do you keep them from being X-rayed? Do you take them with you and ask the security to check them manually?
Thanks for your help with this.
Paula
Yes and if you explain that they are medicines, they usually open up the case, take a look and accept it. Depending on the country (most of Europe, India, S. America) recognize homeopathy.
Hi Joette,
Is Kali Carb same as Kali Bichromicum? New to homeopathy so wanted to clear on this .
Its a different remedy.
Breast-feeding question…. thanks in advance…. My friend is struggling to augment her milk supply… pumping, herbs, perscription, teas, etc. Is there a remedy for this? Much love, Mary
Dr Mendelssohn’s book is the only kid’s health book on my shelves!
Hi Joette, Just curious if you have also found the need to use the Bach flower remedies along side of homeopathy? I know some moms will use the flower remedies for their children and would be interested to read your feedback. Thank you Martha
I own and have used Bach flower remedies, but find that homeopathics have trumped just about every other modality out there.
He was one of the greats. I watch him on you tube once in a while, too.
Question…If currently on a protocol for asthma that uses Kali Carb twice daily… is it o.k. to use it more frequently during an acute chest cold, where chest congestion and breathing issues aren’t being resolved by using kali iodatum 6 or ipecac 30? Then resume Kali Carb twice daily once under control?
Yes, it may be used more frequently during an acute but it may not be correct. Others may be more appropriate.
Thank you, the Kali Carb worked superbly! After several days of constant runny nose, the lungs filled with mucus and breathing was becoming labored. We headed for the dr, in fear of a hospital admission, but when we arrived, all was well with the lungs, thanks to Kali Carb every 3 hours! Thanks Joette!!
Thanks to homeopathy!
The link for the gift leads to a dead end. ??
‘Having my tech staff look in to this.
It has been repaired so try again.
Thank you. Is the link for the free gift still available somewhere? I must be missing it. Thanks.
I am one of the unfortunate recipients of the horrible drug, Accutane. And, have been suffering from it ever since. Is there a protocol for it’s damaging effects, or does one need to follow the yellow brick road of symptoms and diagnosis, like liver pain/gallstones or hearing loss?
Homeopathics that are used in such a situation would be based on the specifics of how the condition presents. In other words, a medicine for the liver would be used (regardless of the cause) as well as one chosen for hearing loss and yet another for gallstones.
Your reply to Penny mentioned using a different remedy for each symptom. How do you decide when to give a separate remedy for each symptom as opposed to looking at the complete picture and choosing the one remedy that covers it all?
In other words, a medicine for the liver would be used (regardless of the cause) as well as one chosen for hearing loss and yet another for gallstones.
I wasn’t commenting on each symptom, but each condition. As a reformed, dyed in the wool classical homeopath, today when using what I call practical homeopathy, I use a specific remedy protocol for each condition because its nearly impossible to find one medicine for hearing loss, eczema, fatty liver, insomnia and toenail fungus. And that is usually the way one case lays out. If one medicine covers them all, then certainly we would employ it. But after years of frustration in trying to employ only one, I conceded that for most folks, there are too many conditions to aim for that impractical pie in the sky of one medicine.
Thank you for replying. It’s taking time for me to understand that practical homeopathy isn’t as limited or strict in its use as classical homeopathy.
Thank you I was diagnosed with bronchitis as a child and then it changed to asthma in my 30’s and now in my 60’s COPD. Had steroids many times and inhalers – I started on kali carb 200, ipec for coughing and lkali lodium for wheezing and have had much relief. Thank you so much!
It works.
‘Happy to hear.
I love you and your posts. I cured my fever blister in two days. And my arthritis in trigger finger in Two months……know I’m working on dissolving my cataracts……. thank you dear one…
WHat a lovely message! I’m so happy that you’re learning and using. Pls pass it on to others. Everywhere.
What did you use to heal the arthritis
I’m not Karen, but Tonya, use this blog to look that up. Its all here.
I’m so thankful for Joette and the wisdom she shares. I’m reading this just after being coldly dismissed by my pediatrician of 17 years because I told him my views on vaccines have changed.
I’m so glad to have this encouragement that I do have the ability, the right and the responsibility to care for my own family.
Learning as much as I can as fast as I can so that, with God’s wisdom and help, all is well with my household.
What is the difference in kali carbonicum and kali bichromicum?
I have a question. If you don’t have the needed remedy in 200c can you use a 30 c remedy and give it more often? For instance if someone has bronchitis could the use Kali carb 30c every 2 hours? Thank. You for making homeopathic accessible to busy moms!! I’ve been using them for almost 11 years but I feel like After buying some of your cds and reading your blog I am finally getting it!!
Joette usually replies to this to use what you have until what you need arrives. So if you have 30 but she recommends or the protocol is 200, order the 200 and then use the 30 until the 200 arrives and then switch over. I’m not sure about the 30 working if you simply use it more often. My limited understanding tells me the medicines work on different levels, this the different potencies. Good luck!
