Living with a Pig

Hey. I’m Eleanor Pigby. Remember me? Buster, the Bad Office Dog, wrote about me recently.

Usually, I’m happy … following my mom around the house, merrily grunting. But as I write to you today, I’m not grunting at all.

I guess you would say I’m “disgruntled.”

Why? Well, a few weeks ago I overheard the neighbors complaining their cat suddenly had stopped behaving in a tidy manner. They had the nerve to say, “All of a sudden, we’re living with a pig!”

What?!

Are you kidding me? A pig? Why in the world would they use my species as an example of another animal’s dirty messiness? That is blatant species-ism.

Pigs are actually quite clean. I certainly am … ask my mom! When I’m inside, I use my litter box like a good girl, or I go outside where I’m told.

But that cat? Not so much.

Apparently, she stopped using her litter box — just refused completely. She started going to the bathroom in various places around the house … even in the bathtub! Can you imagine her poor Mom’s surprise when she stepped in to take a bath?

Blech!

It’s not that the cat didn’t know better. She did! She was purr-fectly well-trained. (I couldn't resist.) It seemed as though she had just changed her mind and decided the litter box was no longer her cup of tea.

But those darn cats have such a big reputation for being clean. Who do they think they are? Nobody says they’re “living with a cat” to express frustration with dirtiness. No. When a cat gets messy, all of a sudden, they’re called a pig!

It makes me so mad!

Luckily, my friend Buster’s Mom, Joette, knew from experience of the perfect homeopathic remedy. She suggested Ms. Cat be given Sulphur 30 twice a week. In short order, it worked! Ms. Cat was back to using her litter box appropriately!

And all the unfair pig references stopped.

Joette says sometimes little humans have this problem as well. (I love hiding in my blanket, so Joette didn’t notice me in the corner when she told this story.) Years ago, Joette knew a young sixth grader who wouldn’t … um … how should I say this … “poop” in the toilet. Obviously, she’d been potty trained for years! She’d tinkle in the potty with no problem, but when it came time for a bowel movement, she’d go in a wastebasket!

It wasn’t a lack of understanding; it was apparently a lack of concern regarding certain disgusting aspects of life. It didn’t bother the little girl at all.

But it drove the girl’s poor mommy out of her mind.

So, she gave her daughter Sulphur 30 twice a week. Would you believe, after only three weeks of taking this homeopathic medicine, the problem was gone? The little girl returned to normal bathroom habits.

I’d call that amazing.

It also works for little boys who refuse to urinate in the right place.

What’s more, Sulphur 30 twice a week can be helpful for anyone who is messy. Joette is specific though: not just “normal” messy, but reallllllllly messy. Their hair’s a mess, their clothes have stains on them, they don’t like to bathe, and many times have a foul body odor.

To remember this remedy for messy, smelly individuals, Joette reminds us foods high in sulfur are also stinky (like hard-boiled eggs, broccoli, cabbage or onions). So, think Sulphur 30 for anyone who is messy, dirty and stinky.

You know, like in the Peanuts cartoon … the character of Pig-Pen.

WAIT! There’s that word again!!!

Why did they have to go and nickname that messy little boy after a pig? I wouldn’t dream of being caught with a cloud of dust and dirt hovering around me.

Ugh. I give up. I’m going back under my blanket to sulk.

But as Joette would say, please pass on the good news of homeopathy — especially the good news about Sulphur 30. And as a favor to me, please don’t let anyone say they’re “living with a pig,” (unless of course, they actually are).

P.S. In addition to detailing these interesting points about Sulphur, Joette’s book, “A Materia Medica: Practical Homeopathy® for Busy Families,” contains all kinds of clever information for many of the most popular and useful remedies. If you enjoy books as much as I do — I especially like to stick my nose in the paper and sniff around — then you really should consider owning your own copy of Joette’s easy-to-understand materia medica. You never know when you might need it, so why wait?

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Thanks for your encouraging words, Angela.

  2. Susan says:

Perfectly timed! As I was looking for a remedy for this! Providential for certain.

  3. Beth Donner says:

Is this different from the material medica we received as part of a course years ago? It was spiral bound.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have only 1 materia medica and it was published in 2017.

  4. Vivian Sclafani says:

What can i do for diarrhea associated w possible samonella?
I unknowingly ate something that was touched by hands with raw chicken. 2days later i was struck with diarrhea. Now day 2. No fever or pain

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Enter the word “diarrhea” in the search bar.

  5. Great article! It’s interesting that it’s given 2x weekly and not daily. I guess kind of like Sepia and the others.

Something else to keep in mind for cats when they suddenly stop peeing in the litter box, is that they might have a uti or bladder infection. Would the sulphur be correcting something like that in this case?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It might but there are other homeopathics that may be better suited for UTI’s.

  6. Sarah S says:

Thank you Joette! I Love how you put such a fun twist on getting to the root of understanding the ins & outs of the remedies. Would this also work for a dog who has taken to peeing in the house?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Buster won’t admit it but he used to do his business in the kitchen when we would leave the house and it worked like a charm.

      1. Sarah S says:

Thank you for getting back to me! I am in the middle of the Allergic Class! I love the information and the studying!

  7. Stephanie says:

Would this be a good remedy for an 18 year old who keeps their room a pig sty and wishes they were more motivated but keeps themselves showered and clean?

    1. Shaylynne says:

Oh good question. I’m curious about this, too.

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t see what question you’re referring to.

  8. Beth says:

Would this remedy work for stinky feet? The feet are being washed twice daily and still smell.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s possible; particularly so if the feet are hot and/or itchy.

  9. Rachel says:

A family member is going through an ugly divorce, and her 8 & 10 year old boys have begun to go #2 in their underwear. It is obviously from stress, anger, grief, etc. In addition to emotionally helping them through this disaster, would sulphur 30 help with how they are expressing themselves through the bathroom issue? Such a clear etiology makes me wonder if this remedy is applicable. Thank you!

  10. Rose says:

Just to clarify your protocol instructions re: taking Sulphur 30c, twice a week.

As life is so busy, I’m aiming to place a schedule on the fridge so that each dose is marked off and so it would be much appreciated if you would advise whether the following schedule complies:
    Day 1: One dose
Day 4 or 5: One dose
    Day 8: One dose
Day 11 or 12: One dose
    and so on.

  11. Elaine Whalen says:

Omg, too cute, but great info!

  12. Kara says:

Can Sulphur help with bad BO. My 9 year old daughter gets really stinky even with deoderant. She doesn’t like to wear deoderant or take showers. She seems so young to get BO.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Sulphur is certainly one of the homeopathics that addresses body odor.

  13. Cindy litchke says:

Thank you for this article. I am having trouble finding sulphur 30, is there another name for it?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Amazon. Boiron. Whole Foods. Hahnemann Pharmacy.

  14. Kara says:

So if my daughter hates to shower or bathe could this medicine help her to want to shower?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I’ve seen it work in that fashion for my son when he was a little boy. But I can’t say it will act for your daughter.

      1. Sarah says:

Hi I’m really enjoying your website and i loved the 2 gateway courses and I love being a mighty member thank you so much for all the information you share.
Would this remedy be helpful to a 3 year old newly toilet trained child that used to poop in the toilet and now he won’t.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

In my experience, three year old boys often go back and forth with potty training. Sometimes its better to let things go longer. What you describe is not considered a pathology. It probably just needs more time.

  15. suzanne says:

would this help with hot flashes? due to post menopause. in the Banerji book it says to take is twice per day, 200ch for hot flashes, even though, none of the other symptoms match, ie, there is no odor or smell or stinky feet, or messiness ect….

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Sulphur is one of the best choices for hot flashes.

  16. suzanne says:

thanks for the reply. what about sepia? I have those brown/yellow spots around the mouth and cheek, which is listed in the materia medica under sepai. but, I have none of the other uterine/menstrual problems. only hot flashes and long use of HRT.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

There are indeed differentials to be made and it takes a bit more than that to make the determination (although you’re on the right track) but should you truly be interested in learning how to do this you might want to study my online course “Feminopathy”.

  17. monica says:

    Hi Joette
i was wondering is the sulphur would help my horse to poop in one spot and not in every place.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I have no experience with such.

  18. Katie says:

Would sulphur be a good choice when the person doesn’t actually smell bad, but because of distorted smell all body odors smell like onions? So, to the individual, have a sulphur smell?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

As with all homeopathic medicines, not every characteristic associated with them is required in order to make them a good choice.

  19. Nancy says:

Sometimes people with Alzheimer’s start going to the bathroom in inappropriate places. Could sulphur help with that?

  20. Mary says:

Is this a good remedy for extraordinarily foul and offensive gas? And would a higher potency be considered if it’s ineffective and chronic at a lower potency?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

Sulfur is certainly one medicine that may be considered.
Higher or lower potencies are not necessarily associated with chronic or acute states.
Should you be interested in learning how to use specific medicines for specific gastrointestinal conditions, check out my online course titled Good Gut Bad Gut on Joetteslearningcenter.

  21. Sarah says:

I really appreciate your blog and I got so much information from the gateway courses and from being a mighty. Could this remedy be used for a 3 year old that is toilet trained but is giving me a hard time with #2 from the beginning and at this point won’t use the toilet for #2 at all
