Stop It! How to Antidote a Bad Drug Reaction

So often, my clients report that they have taken a drug and subsequently experienced mild, to even serious, side effects that linger beyond their expectations.

For example, steroid creams used for skin conditions such as eczema often wind up costing the person years of post-steroid cream withdrawal. *(See below for more information on this phenomenon.)

Or use of birth control pills followed by lifelong endometriosis.

Or, after a short run of antibiotics, a person suffers for years from gut dysbiosis keeping them from being able to eat wheat, dairy and a host of other common foods. Learn more about how I uproot this in my online course Good Gut, Bad Gut.

What's most upsetting, however, is, the fact that, too often, most doctors don't recognize or acknowledge these side effects or withdrawal symptoms as having been caused by the very drug they prescribed to treat and/or cure their patients in the first place.

Instead, they tend to blame genes, age, lifestyle or just about anything else, whether scientifically sound or not.

After all, who wants to admit they caused a new pathology with their last “expertly chosen” prescription?

If the doctor asked his drug rep if this or that drug could cause an entirely new disease, what do you suppose the drug rep’s response would be?

That’s where you come in. Where it’s absolutely critical that you do your homework.

Let’s face it.

No one else in your life has the power you have to do this.

No one else has the time and devotion to put in this type of effort.

That is, no one else but you (and perhaps, maybe, your mother).

This is also where homeopathy comes in. Not only because it is the medicine we all thought we were getting in the first place (you know, the one we expected to actually cure what ails us), but because homeopathy can set us on a track that not only resolves our original complaint but also addresses any new issues caused by previously unsuccessful treatments.

Pardon me, as I realize I am beginning to ramble here. Let's get back to the subject of anti-doting.

Given that each illness, each person, and each reaction to a drug is different, it seems a daunting expectation that a chemical reaction can be halted with a homeopathic medicine, but to a certain degree, it often can.

Take Sulphur 30 or 200, for example.

When Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the Father of Homeopathy, was practicing in Germany during the late 1700s, he opened nearly every case with Sulphur in homeopathic potency.

He did this in order to antidote the myriad of drugs people were taking at the time.

Yes, people took plenty of drugs back then, too, because their doctors were doing the same then as they are now.

Morphine for simple headaches. Cocaine for teething. Laudanum, mercury, and the list went on.

Though to my knowledge, I don’t know of anything to help antidote bloodletting.

However, there is also the ill use of a homeopathic remedy as well.

Most folks who use homeopathy understand that the use of the wrong homeopathic remedy, especially if used too frequently, can actually cause what the medicine was intended to correct.

For the zealous beginner, this can sometimes become a problem.

The solution?

Several good sniffs of mint, camphor or other aromatics can occasionally antidote the action. I’ve seen it antidote a reaction within minutes, while other times it can take a period of a few days, with repeated inhalations.

But one of the most universal antidotes is Camphor 200.

The way I use this remedy is the way I observed the Drs. Banerji using it.

That is, one dose for one day only, as an opening to nearly every case.

There is a general assumption that drugs used in the past need to be reckoned with before the new, hopefully well-chosen remedy is administered.

With this in mind, a case of eczema related to allergies might look like this:

Day 1: Camphor 200, 1 dose, one day only. Then stop (to help clear the slate).

Day 2: Antimonium crud 6, twice daily for 6-8 weeks, then assess (for itchy eczematous skin).

Day 2: Bovista 200, every other day for 6-8 weeks, then assess (for allergies in general).

*Interested in learning more about steroid withdrawal syndrome? Check out the not-for-profit website www.Itsan.org, started by a dermatologist and patient who noted the connection between worsening of skin conditions over time when steroids were used.

I agree with their premise, but not necessarily their methods.

I suffered from this condition myself after having steroid ointments on my skin from the time I was 6 weeks old until 13 years old because of eczema.

I might add that my parents were warned to use it sparingly, yet it was used nonetheless.

It did what it promised; it made the itching and unsightly appearance seemingly disappear; at least in the short-haul.

But no matter how little was used, as long as it “worked” it caused damage that took me decades to undo.

I must add that homeopaths have known this for over two centuries, which is why I expound each week to find an alternative to synthetic drugs whenever possible.

Please accept my apologies if I seem to carry on about this, but once again, homeopathy is the answer to this devastating drug reaction.

I’d love to report that a simple dose of Sulphur 30 or Camphor 200 will right all the wrongs, but it’s not quite that easy when the damage is extensive.

The way I laid out the remedies above is an example of how this can be done.

For a more in-depth explanation of how steroid dependency can be uprooted, you might be interested in my online course, Skin: The Ugly Truth.

Will you promise me this going forward?

The free information I offer here every week comes with a caveat which is, I kindly ask that you help others with it.

That you share this with those who will benefit and that you cure relatives, friends, pets, livestock and wildlife…all who are in need.

Together, let’s cure the ills of the world, one homeopathic remedy at a time.

The reason I don't indicate how many pills constitute a dose is because different pharmacies manufacture different sizes and the number of pills is appropriate to those pill sizes.  The number of pills to be taken as a dose is indicated on the outside of your bottle.

The remedies mentioned above can usually be found at several different locations online such as Amazon, OHM, Boiron, Hahnemann Laboratories, Washington Homeopathics and ABC Homeopathy, to name a few.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

My son is currently taking inhaled steroids. Will this protocol, with the intent of antidoting previous medicines, affect his current one? Ultimately, we would like to heal him and remove all medicines, but that is not possible right now.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I sounds like he’s presently using homeopathics. IF that’s correct and they are improving his breathing, you wouldn’t want to antidote what is acting favorably by employing Camphor.

  2. Paola says:

So my friend’s daughter is suffering from a condition that is basically withdrawal from the cortisone steroid cream (which was used to treat/suppress eczema). The withdrawal symptoms include red burned skin (Cantharis?), nausea, mood swings, etc. It sounds really quite painful and traumatic for the sufferer. Would camphor be useful in these situations? I wonder how often…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor is only step one in making the correction. Now we use the homeopathics that will address the specific symptoms of burning. Cantharis can be considered but so might the source of the condition in the 1st place, such as food intollerances, allergies, hormonal shifts (if she’s menstuating or close to it), etc.

The number of times Camphor is used is once and only once…at the opening of the case. The only time we’d consider using it after that one time is if more medication or an incorrect remedy was used.

      1. mtembon says:

Thank you so much for this information. Can I ask for further clarification on the use of Camphora? I am confused about what is meant in the Banerjis’ protocol for Drug-Induced Dermatitis (p. 70 of their book), when they say to alternate Camphora 200C and Antimonium Crudum 6C, one dose every 3 hours alternately, till complete relief. Is this for something other than recovery from topical steroids? Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Any drug that may be the cause of the condition would call for this protocol; steroids included.

          1. mtembon says:

I am going through the same Topical Steroid Withdrawal mentioned above, 9 months into withdrawal. From your response I conclude that I should follow the Banerji protocol which includes a lot of Camphor over a period of weeks or months. I hope I am understanding correctly.

Thank you again. I am so grateful. Homeopathy gives me hope where allopathic medicine has failed me.

  3. Cheli says:

Thank you as always, Joette. Good call to explain the Camphor. It makes sense!

  4. Sarah B says:

Joette, We use a tooth brushing oil blend (containing eo of: cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, clove, myrrh and manuka – in almond oil) and alternate with a brushing rinse of 1% food-grade hydrogen peroxide (also contains eo of peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus, lemon, clove and cinnamon). My question is, are we antidoting any homeopathics whenever we brush our teeth?
I had always thought that if we had taken homeopathics, we could wait a given amount of time and then it was safe to take or use mint.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the remedies are acting, you are not anti-doting.

  5. Suzie homemaker says:

AMEN! I just in last 3 days gave your site to 2 people. one will read this I hope and have an eye or both open. she has the red packages on face. I can’t spell that’ll the other is a life long friend who i lived across road from. I prayed God would give me her new address. she sent me Christmas card with her #. called her. now hope she will take this info and use it. her kid has croons (sp again) disease. she is a nurse so ………

  6. Laurie says:

Hi Joette! So if my grandson who was born prematurely(7-8 wks) almost 5 yrs ago and was given steroids for lung development, would this be a good time to clear with Camphor and then start the eczema protocol. He is suffering with eczema that comes on in winter and shows blotchy red with itching. I know his mother gives him apple cider baths to help. Blessings!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We open the case with Camphor 200. Giving him a remedy for eczema would be like opening the case.

      1. Laurie says:

        Great!!

  7. Rajdeep says:

Will sniffing or chewing mint or using perfumes that contains aromatic substance antidote the remedy I’m currently taking?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If your remedies are acting, they are not causing trouble. IF you’re seeing no improvement, then you might want to stop chewing and sniffing mint. Perfumes that have aromatics, unless very concentrated, will likely not be of concern.

  8. MommyB says:

So what if you are taking the RIGHT remedy for too long? I am assuming previous symptoms will return? I know you are supposed to stop when symptoms have diminished but I am wondering what happens if the right remedy is taken too long? Is it possible for NEW symptoms to arise, and if so, should they be antidoted with Camphor?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The right remedy when taken past its completion becomes the wrong remedy because it’s no longer needed. SO if you take it past its need either old symptoms will return or even new symptoms may present.

Think of it this way: If you had a headache and you took Ibuprofin and the headache dissappeared, yet you continued twice daily for days or months, would it not cause a problem?

Remember, homeopathy is not supplements, herbs or home remedies, it is medicine.

      1. Gayane says:

Joette, so if new symptoms chronic sinusitis, for example, appeared after taking correct remedy for too long and old deeper symptoms such as anxiety disappeared/ became better, would you still need to use Camphor to antidote or would you find a new remedy just for new symptoms or old ones that became worse? My 3 year old was taking silicea and lyco for anxiety, stomach problems, allergies and occasional sinusitis, his stomach became better

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I use Camphor only when nothing good came from the previous schedule. When there’s good, even small, I leave it alone and move forward

          1. Alexa says:

Hi Joette, would you expect the calming effect of chemical medicine to be deleted as well by Camphor c200 or it’s highly improbable?

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

            I don’t understand your question.

  9. Sara says:

Thanks for sharing this protocol for eczema. I’d like to try it for my one year old baby who is suffering from eczema related to food and environmental allergies. I’m wondering if the doses listed (Camphor 200; Antimonium crud 6) is the same for a baby too?
Is it preferable to give the pellets straight from the bottle or dilute in water as sometimes suggested for little ones?
She was on a homeopathic constitutional remedy from a classic homeopath, but it hasn’t worked so I stopped a couple weeks ago. I’d like to now try this protocol. It sounds like I should start with camphor to create a clean slate?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When a remedy isn’t acting, its a good practice to start over again with Camphor 200. The number of pills can be cut back by half but generally the number of pills is the same and they can be put in water as well to make it easier to administer. all of these ways work.

      1. Maryann says:

When a remedy is given for one condition (of lesser importance), and now you will start treating another condition (of major importance) and the old med is an antidote to one of the new meds and incompatible (according to Materia Medica) with the other new med, should you take Camphor before starting the new meds or just stop the old and start the new the next day?

  10. Jennifer Mills-Beale says:

I’m a nursing mom. My 3-month-old just had eczema all over his chest and belly. Could it be a delayed reaction to antibiotics put in his eyes right after birth?

I also have eczema occasionally on my buttocks and I’ve had acne since I was 13yrs old (I’m now 27yrs). An allergy test I did shows that I’m sensitive to chicken and carrots. When I consume dairy I have flare-ups on my face almost immediately, but it goes away after a week or two. Lately, I’ve been inconsistent with my restrictive diet. Is it possible that my food sensitivities have transferred to my son?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, it is not only possible that what you or your husband have suffered is what your child inherits but likely. As for eczema after antibiotics in the eyes, I’d not make the connection.

Should you be interested, you might want to look at my course, Good Gout Bad Gut on courses.joettecalabrese.com. It covers exactly how to use homeopathy for exactly this condition.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You bet! He’s made of your DNA, so it stands to reason. I wouldn’t consider the antibiotics used once in the eye would cause this. Should you be interested in learning how to treat your self and family for such conditions, feel free to go to our Good Gut Bad Gut Course.

  11. Mindy says:

I have a lot of skin issues and food intolerances. Do you think sulphur 30c would work as well as camphor 200c to “clear the slate” for that one time dose? I have the sulphur in my kit is why I ask. Also would it be good to take a one time dose of the sulphur while I wait for my comphor 200 to arrive. Thanks for sharing so much of your knowledge.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

No, I would not open a case with Sulphur. The world is a different place than it was in Dr. Hahnemann’s day.

  12. Sara says:

I’m wondering if using a protocol remedy for eczema will essentially mask the deeper issue and act similarly to medicine or steroid cream in clearing the condition but covering up the particular person’s causes for it? Since it’s a “one size fits all” remedy for something that can have varied underlying causes, I’m posing this question since I understand that homeopathy usually goes by the particular symptoms of any condition.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you sustain a head injury, do you use Arnica montana 200? If you know anything about homeopathy, of course you do! Does it suppress symptoms because it works universally? Of course not! THen why would it be any different with a skin condition?

  13. Sara says:

After 6-8 weeks, if the eczema seems better, you stop the remedy and is it possible that it is healed for good?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

A good way to understand how this works is to listen to or read my podcast #12.

  14. Corinne says:

my dog was recently diagnosed with Lyme at the vet. He has not had any symptoms. The vet prescribed doxycycline, which I started him on last Friday evening. He is having a strong adverse side effect to this (excessive thirst – up to 1/2 gallon water per day) so I have stopped the drug, his last dose was at 6 pm last night. Can I use the camphor on him to antidote the doxy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor won’t antidote any value coming from the drug but will help clear the slate. the day after a last dose would be a good place to start.

      1. Corinne says:

Thank you! I will need to order the camphor so it will be a few days before I can administer it. I just read your lyme protocol in Dogs Naturally Magazine online and am interested in following that instead of trying a different kind of antibiotic. My dog is in good health and shows no symptoms of Lyme, it just showed up on his Snap test at the vet. Do I follow steps one and two in that case? And if i understand correctly, weight has nothing to do with dosage, correct?

      2. gkuintzle says:

so does camphor antidote good and bad? In other words, if you are taking several homeopathic remedies, one is not working. You have used several others with great success. Will taking the camphor antidote all the remedies you have taken previously?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The way I see it is like this: Camphor (and other antidotes) stop/s the action of the medicines being used at present. It will not make a sweeping erase of the good that has been established in the past.

  15. Sarah says:

I am having trouble finding a place to buy Camphor 200. I recently bought your top 100 remedies kit, but I see that camphor is not in it. It is not available on Amazon either. Any ideas where I can purchase this remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I just looked on Amazon and Boiron has it for $7. Its called Camphora 200.

  16. Sara says:

You write that “several good sniffs of mint, camphor or other aromatics can occasionally antidote the action.” Does this mean that when someone takes a homeopathic remedy they should not drink mint tea (my favorite type!) or use peppermint essential oil (for fever, which I tend to do)? Also, when on the remedy Antimonium crud 6 you describe above is it ok to take other remedies for acute situations that may arise (such as arnica for a fall or belledona for fever) during the 6-8 week period? Does this effect the remedy?

  17. Lisa D says:

Is it common to have a reaction to the starting dose of Camphor? Like hives, itching, nausea?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Usually, we see improvement after having taken Camphor 200 because it usually cancels out old drug use. But nothing about the human body surprises me.

  18. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor’s helps to clear the way for the 1st homeopathic that follows it. I have also seen it help uproot conditions caused by drugs, but sometimes the conditions that follow drug use need specific homeopathics to correct fully.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Try Amazon. I can’t say the degree of effectiveness you might experience or whether it will act at all.

  19. Mindy says:

Does the eczema protocol above normally make the eczema symptoms worse at the beginning? This was my experience. I followed the protocol above, except that I also mixed Arsenicum Album 200 with the Antimonium Crudum 6 (on the advice of a friend who took your courses). At what point do the symptoms (rash) normally start improving? I followed the protocol for 3 1/2 weeks, with ever worsening rash on my hands. I have taken a break from it for 2 weeks and the rash has really reduced. I just wonder if my experience is common, or am I doing something wrong?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

without taking your case, it would be difficult to discuss this fully, but we sometimes see worsening of symptoms that ameliorates within a month or so. In my classes, I teach that in order to get the most information, its best to use a medicine for about 8 weeks.

      1. Mindy says:

Thank you for this helpful reply.

      2. Mindy says:

If I antidote my topical steroid withdrawal symptoms using the Banerji protocol that includes Camphora 200 three times a day, can I still use other remedies during the same period of time? Or does the Camphora prevent the other remedies from working? How do you recommend handling this issue?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

1st let me say that actual steroid withdrawal is generally a bigger issue than taking Camphor alone. If its a mild condition, Camphor may help to halt the progression. If its a severe one, more will need to be done. Having said this, if you re-read the article, it will answer your question.

  20. Rachelle says:

I would like to cancel the effects of a previous used remedy on my 4 year old (cina 200 given within the last week) but I am also giving my 4 year old Influenzinum weekly to prevent the flu so I don’t want to cancel out this remedy. Will giving camphor 200 for one day and then starting on the new remedy (calc phos) also cancel out the weekly influenzinum remedy he is also taking?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It simply stops the action. It doesn’t eliminate the good that has been accumulated from a previous homeopathic.

  21. Rachelle says:

Also, what is the difference between 3x and 6c remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

3x means the substance has been diluted 3 times to the 10th power and 6c means its been diluted 6 times to the hundreth power. In the end, for practical purposes, they are actually close in action.

  22. Rachelle says:

    Thanks, that was helpful info!

  23. nina says:

My sweet boy is going through what i think is withdrawal. HE is only 1 and i have used the steroids so sparingly. His face is red all the time and his body breaks out once in a while. While i use the remedies as noted above what can i put on his skin to help him? ALso i need to get bovista 200. Should i wait until i get this to start the remedy? Thank you so much for all the hard work and information you are putting up for us all to use. I am so grateful!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m afraid that using steroids sparingly is still using steroids.
Generally, we don’t use anything on the skin other than coconut or olive oil (if he can tolerate them).

  24. Carrie L Cheek says:

I’m new to this homepathy medicine however I have seen a Naturopath for a number of years who has prescribed homeopathics from companies like Energetix to assist me while pregnant and nursing. Most potency in them are small. However, one she gave me to help me get off my thyroid meds had potency of 1M of a material in it. I used it for quite some time everyday (maybe a year) then we went to 5 days on 2 days off and then 5 days off and 2 days on (while pregnant). I currently do not take it. She would check me energy wise to see if my body still needed it. She also did the same for some adrenal support that I have taken upon myself to treat myself now that I’m off of it. I fear in my over zealous that I could cause issues. I was under the impression that once you stop taking the remedy due to symptoms returning then after being off them a day or so the symptoms would dissipate. Am I wrong in reading that some say the unwanted symptoms will stay even after stopping them? I went with homeopathics because I believe in my heart they were safe with no unwarranted neg side effects but it sounds to me that this is not true. There can be lasting unwanted side effects. That seems scary and alarming to me. I wouldn’t want to try and treat my child and cause worse issues for them due to my lack of knowledge. That seems as scarey as prescribing the conventional medicine. What about the idea of 1 single high dose being enough for a month and then again taken months out? Here you suggest taking 200C every other day. How does a person know they are proving or having a healing crisis?
I have always taken homeopathics in multiplies and for months at at a time at least 2 times a day. Is this an issue?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m afraid the method your naturopath used is not what I would use. I generally use the Banerji Protocols that doesn’t utilize one medicine in a high dose.
Your question is understandable but would take a longer dissertation than I’m willing to engage in order to answer it.

Having said this, Homeopathy is RELATIVELY safe. There are risks in anything you take.

    2. Gabriela says:

I hear you! I feel the same way. I thought that by using homeopathic medicine, I was avoiding bad side effects. I thought that in case it did not work, at least it would not harm. I guess I was wrong.

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Side effects are conditions that cause trouble when the drug is correctly chosen. What I’m describing is a mild reaction that occurs when the wrong homeopathic medicine is chosen and is repeated in spite of it.
At some point, the prescriber must understand that for everything in life there is accountability. Nothing is perfectly, 100 percent, absolutely safe.

  25. Carrie says:

Thanks. I guess I was hoping for some type of reassurance to calm my worry and concern but I probably just need to take some deep breaths and move on. I have a history of anxiety and it seems to be creeping back up on me under the stress of returning to work and trying to care for 5 children and nurse a 4 month. I’m sure there is some type of homeopath out there to assist with that but I’m too new to figure it out and I want it to be safe for a newborn. I’ve read just enough to know that Lycopodium seems to be a really good fit for me but I’m too afraid to treat myself now while I’m nursing. I felt more confident when I really felt homeopathy was safe.

  26. Carrie says:

Also, can you receive healing without antidoting? Growing up I’m sure I’ve taking plenty of Tylenol/Ibprofen, steroid creams from time to time, anti depressants (early 20’s and some 30’s) ect… before I got wise and learned about natural care and homeopathy. I started using homeopathy without the knowledge of antidoting. Could I still have results?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Certainly!

    2. Carrie says:

Sorry so many questions but in a former blog you stated to me that I could treat myself while nursing and the baby benefit. What if the baby does not need what I am treating. Could she get proving?

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

        no.

  27. Karen says:

Joette, my friend took 5 tablets of bioplasma 6x. Immediately she didn’t know if she should kneel in front of the toilet or sit on it. She felt like she wanted to die. That said, she is on drugs including: coumadin, duragesic, thyroid med, antidepressant, insomnia med etc. This is the first time she has taken any homeopathy. When she said that she would try bioplasma again, but one tablet, I was shocked, given her reaction the first time. So, I told her about antidoting using mint. My question is should she even try again? Was her reaction actually from the drugs as a result of feeding her cells ?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The more important question is what she felt like after that event was over. Although it was only one dose that she took, we would look to see if there was any improvement, unexpected, small or seemingly insignificant to determine if the medicine was correct after all.
Having said this, it would be better to give her something more specific that will address her main condition/s.
I can’t say that I know what the cause was, but given that homeopathy is medicine it can have profound effects.

      1. Carrie L Cheek says:

Wow. It’s amazing how people can have such different reactions. I’ve been taking Bioplasma from Hyland’s 3 times a day as indicated on the bottle for 2 days now to support body during nursing and I haven’t recognized any effects. I’ve also been giving them to my children and husband who are recovering from colds and standard fatigue for being overworked. I wasn’t looking for life changing events just support. I’ve been listening to your CD on cell salts and would like to do more specific once I learn more. I’ve really enjoyed the material in the combo pack and I received my booklets in the mail yesterday. I encourage others who are beginning but feel like they can’t pay for a course to look into the combo pack. There is a wealth of information in there to get you started. I really want a kit now.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m happy that you’re joining the ranks of moms/wives who cure their families themselves with homeopathy!

  28. Sabina Iordache says:

Please, how to antidote bad reactions (pain back very strong) from Causticum 1M? Thanks very much for your response.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The article clarifies how I use Camphor for antidoting.

  29. gkuintzle says:

Can you possibly explain why after taking lachesis 200 eoD for about 7 months, taking lycopodium mixed with arsenicum album 3x took me all the way back to palpitations as bad as when I started lachesis? I stopped the arsenicum which is listed as an antidote for lachesis in the materia medica and I took it for a month and the palpitations just kept getting worse and worse. It took about a month and a half to bring my progress on palpitations back to where I left off.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

WIthout taking your case, it appears as though the medicines were either wrong in the 1st place or used beyond their need. Camphor often helps hasten the halt that you want as will time. Then its time to reassess.

  30. Joe says:

would sulpher 30 be a good choice for a dog that started throwing up (only once or twice) after taking heartworm medicine? Can cina be used as a heartworm preventative? Is it effective? Thank you!

    1. Joe says:

The heartworm medicine was not homeopathic. It was HeartGard.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve not used Cina for heartworm but have used the fallowing info: http://www.holisticvetclinic.net/pages/heartworm_treatment

  31. Hi, thank you for this info! I hope you are still able to answer questions. I have been off of Topical steroids for over 4 1/2 years, and off of Protopic for 2 1/2 years, but am still having severe eczema and withdrawal-like symptoms. Do you think this protocol would help me? And at this point, this far down the road, would I need to do the one dose of camphor, or just start with the 2 one, can’t remember the name?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I teach the Banerji method of opening every case for an adult with one dose of Camphor 200.

  32. Okay, thank you so much for your reply! So, just start the first day with a one-time only dose of the camphor 200? Then second day, start with antimonium and bovista 200, and then take those for 6-8 weeks?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

That’s the method I teach. But it must be assessed at the end of 6-8 weeks; not necessarily halted. This is followed by the next step, depending on how symptoms present. If you want to learn this step by step, check out my on line course, Skin, the Ugly Truth.

  33. Okay, thank you! 🙂 One more thing, where you would recommend getting pellets that don’t contain lactose? I am allergic to milk and all the ones I saw on amazon from Banerji had lactose in them.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Unless allergies are excruciating, my experience is that it matters not that they are made on lactose and sometimes a combination of sucrose and lactose. If allergies are a looming concern then they need to be addressed asap. Having said that, homeopathic medicines are made on sucrose or in alcohol but most are not always easily found. However, the pharmacy that we have priveledges with offer such, but not to the general public since they’re not retailers. I extend my priveledges to my clients and students.

  34. JP says:

Hi. Just a quick question: how recent homeopathic (unwanted) reactions might Camphora 200 antidote? Does it have to be very recent or could it antidote even effects that have been causing trouble for months? Thanks

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve seen it help reduce reactions that are years old.

  35. Aly says:

What is the reason why you say camphor 200 cannot be given to infants under 1 year of age?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      That is the protocol.

  36. Aly says:

Okay but there’s no danger or problems associated with giving it to an infant?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy is relatively safe; not perfectly safe. If it is used injudiciously or incorrectly it may cause a proving. With the trepidation you have, I’d urge you to study further or work with a seasoned homeopath.

  37. Heather says:

What if you’ve caused a proving by using the wrong remedy, but you don’t want to use camphor because you’re using other remedies for unrelated conditions, and seeing improvement with those? If you just stop using the wrong remedy without antidoting it, will the adverse effects go away on their own?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Usually, provings wash away on their own.

  38. Frannia Addo says:

I had an unwanted C-section about 8 months ago. The epidural given left me a pain in the spot of injection that is felt occasionally. The actual incision also hurts on occasion. I did not know enough about homeopathy before the time of delivery so I did not follow the surgery protocol you mention in another post. Do you think Camphor can still be used 8 months after the surgery to help remove the above pain, followed by Arnica montana which you mention elsewhere as helpful in helping to recover from surgery?

  39. Lynn says:

This is a really informative article about the use of camphor, appreciate that! My problem is that the bottle of camphor that I got from Helios does not state what a dose is comprised of. I have the 200c, but not sure if I should take just 1 of the little pills or more. I have been researching/reading for hours now, and cannot discover a definitive answer. I am doing this prior to starting a Banerji protocol, so want to make sure I take the correct amount. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Usually, a dose is = to 2-5 pills. But actually, the number of pills is not as important as you might think.

  40. Lynn says:

    Thank you!

  41. ss says:

Can Sulphur or Camphor antidote the homeopathic remedies that were taken previously?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

They stop the action, not undo the good.

  42. Michelle says:

Can the same thing be done for pets? My cat was given an antibiotic injection (two weeks worth in one shot) against my knowledge or permission. I want to antidote it. Can that be done using Camphor? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy is used for all animals.

  43. Gina says:

Taking about correct remedies and new symptoms, I have a scary story to tell which made me quite fearful to use homeopathy. When my daughter was just three years old, her eczema was cured in one week by a homeopath. I do not recall what homeopathic remedies she prescribed, though. The same homeopath ten years later prescribed natrium muriarticum30 and ignatia30 for now my 13 year old daughter for her sneezing bouts that she has throughout the day but always mostly in the mornings. After taking those new remedies her eczema reappeared! A homeopath told to immediately stop taking ignatia and continue natrium muriarticum30. I did not feel like I can trust her (being new to homeopathy) and started doing my own research and reading homeopathy articles. I found out that my daughter’s constitutional remedy is phosphorus and found an article by a homeopath treating a woman with identical personality like my daughter’s and sneezing problem with Calcarea Phosphorica. I didn’t know the importance of potencies then, so next time my child had a sneezing bout I gave her calcarea phosphorica 200. It worked. she stopped sneezing. when the sneezing returned after couple of days I gave her the same ca phos and she stopped sneezing. I was so happy and proud of myself until that same week…she broke her right pinky at the gym while catching the ball and at the same time her right eye started developing inflammation. At first it seemed a simple conjunctivitis but within couple of days a white spot appeared on her iris and started spreading! At the same time she had sharp shooting pains going from the right eye into her right temple and the lymph nods on that side were all painful and swollen. We rushed to an optometrist and while there I noticed a rash next to her hair line on the same side. the optometrist was baffled and diagnosed her with shingles! My child never had chicken pox, but she was vaccinated from it. Long story short we took every poison that optometrist prescribed in order to save my daughter’s eye! Finally the white stuff disappeared and the pinky sort of healed. Then, half a year later when my daughter felt fatigued from overstudying I gave her phosphoricum acidum 30. She felt sharp pain in the same spot next to her eye! No more phosphoricum acidum. Next time I gave her calcarea carbonica 30 to help her with allergies. Same sharp pain near her eye and sharp pain in her pinky! At this point I am so afraid to give her anything related to phosphorus or calcarea. One dose of Sabadila 30, by the way, stops her sneezing for several days with no side effects, but her eczema and acne are bothering her very much. Anyway, the moral of the story I guess is that I am in a situation where I know that calcarea phosphorica brought out something bad lurking in my daughter’s system, but I was too unskilled in homeopathy to address this issue and instead had to suppress it with conventional medications that are outright poisonous. I am very fearful now to use high potency remedies in frequent intervals in fear that some deep hidden miasm will show its ugly face and then what do I do? Most of the protocols by Benarjis use medicines in 200 potencies and doses are twice per day and etc. Given the experience I had I am very fearful to even try something like that on my children.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The Banerji protocols are v. specific: For this condition, you give this medicine in this potency and this frequently. It’s more formulaic than the method you used. When used properly, the medicines act properly.

  44. Kim says:

Joette thank you for this article. Would sniffing Vicks VapoInhaler (non-medicated, with camphor and menthol) and applying Tiger Balm to joints (11% camphor and 10% menthol) antidote 30C potency? I am also taking herbal supplements for arthrosis and of course I don’t want antidoting the supplements. And I am really not sure how long does one need to sniff the Vicks and keep applying Tiger Balm since I am planning to use homeopathic mix remedy to stop smoking in about 3 days. Thank you.

    1. Vee says:

Joette, this is a bit off topic for this forum, but didn’t know how else to reach you to ask a question. Recently, an acquaintance tried to sell me on the idea of HGH homeopathic. It sounded extremely promising, so I took the information & read it at home. It turned out that the HGH in it is synthetic. As far as supplements go, I avoid anything that uses the word ‘synthetic’ and told her I was not comfortable with the product, but she insisted that it is safe, approved by the FDA (oh big deal for pete’s sakes! who cares about them & their opinions & approvals??), but I told her no. It was also apx $140/mo prior to “launch” date (that has passed now so it is more). She said it was a ‘first for a homeopathic to be approved by FDA’. Today, I was looking for that website and this one came up: http://www.hgh-pro.com/hghvelvet.html This is NOT her website, but the product at this one is apx the same (synthetic included) plus some other homeopathic ingredients and it was around $85, also FDA approved. Question is this – does synthetic mean something different or safer in homeopathics or was I right to avoid this type of thing?? Thank you! ~~ Vee

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have no experience with this kind of product.

        1. Vee says:

Okay, I can appreciate the fact that you’ve not had experience with this particular item. But I just assumed that homeopathics were never ‘synthetic’ in any way, and this HGH ‘homeoopathic’ caught me offguard. Because of your expertise and number of years using homeopathic remedies, I felt that you were the best expert that I could ask about this. I have to admit. If this HGH can do half of what they say it can do, it ‘sounds like’ an amazing product.

          1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Lets put it this way: many of our best homeopathic medicines are derived from even toxic materials and are made curative via the homeopathic procedure of potentization. Hence I wouldn’t halt consideration of a product for the reason that the original gross substance is synthetic.

          2. Vee says:

Thank you for that thoughtful reply. It makes sense but still raises some questions in my mind. Like where do they get the HGH they synthesize and how much do they do the potentization process? I may be confusing things here, but I will check it out further. Thank you again for such an insightful reply!

          3. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The potentization process is indicated by the number after the name of the remedy. for example, Human Growth Hormone (Somatropin): 30X, 12X.

  45. Vee says:

Oh, thank you. I got so stuck on the word ‘synthesized’ that I missed that it was listed.

  46. Anna says:

Can Camphor 200 antidote Sulphur in M potencies?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor is a universal antidote, regardless of potency. No guarantees, but that’s the way it generally works.

  47. Denise says:

After reading this blog and comments, would this summary be correct?

1 Camphor will halt the action of previous and current homeopathics (but not undo the good that was done)
2 Camphor will antidote previously ill-chosen homeopathics or a properly chosen remedy that was taken too long such that new symptoms emerged
3 Camphor Will antidote effects of previous prescription drugs and clear the slate
4 Starting a BP without Camphor may result in success (although improvement is more likely if Camphor is used)
5 There are times when Camphor is not used to open a case (such as if some good came out of a previous schedule)

Question: What is the effect of Camphor, if any, on current prescription drugs? (Would like to wean off them but not ready yet). I assume you would take Camphor first then the meds after.

Question: On the day you take Camphor, is it ok to take remedies for another condition if unrelated to the protocol you are starting? If yes, I assume you take Camphor first.

Context: Elderly person with long history of conventional medicine and drugs, but open to using homeopathy for chronics having enjoyed some success and improvement with acute conditions.

    Thank you!

    1. Laurie says:

I wish you had an answer to your question. Particularly regarding current prescriptions.

  48. Joanna says:

    Hi,

Is it Camphora Bromata? There is another one listed with a similar name. Thank you.

  49. Lexa Cole says:

Hi, so I’m a new mom and had a home birth 2 weeks ago and basicly long story short a piece of the placenta broke off and was stuck inside until 5 days later I was able to go to the hospital and get it taken out but by then I had an infection. The doctor put me on a antibiotic that is safe for Hope because I’m breastfeeding her and I end it today. I have started listening to your podcasts for the last couple months but didn’t know anything yet to use other than that antibiotic and was looking for something to help wipe the slate clean from this antibiotic and I found this article, isn’t camphor 200 probably safe while breastfeeding? Cause there aren’t any symptoms from the antibiotic yet but I know there could be and want to nip it in the bud. So only once?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The way we use Camphor 200, is one dose for one day only, regardless of whether someone is pregnant, nursing, an infant a child, an adult, a chicken, a cow. Its universal.

      1. Lexa Cole says:

        K thanks 🙂

  50. Jan says:

Would clearing past antibiotic use with a dose of Camphor 200c help stop the progression of hearing loss that is directly related to their use, amino-glycosides? Thank you!

  51. Andrea says:

    Hello Joette,
Thanks to your informative help and blogs I have more confidence in Homeopathy. Thank you.
My question is a long one I will break it down for you.
Firstly my Mother 85 Avascular Ulcers has been advised by one of the lovely doctors at Banerjeri Protocols to take the following daily.
    Arsenicum 200c + Hypericum 200c
    Hamamelis 200c + Arnica 3c
    for her ulcers.
    He also suggested she take
Graphites 200c every 3rd day for what the nurses diagnosed as weeping eczema

Thats fine with me I trust his consultion and advice to the latter.
I don’t want to keep using steroid cream on her eczema, it is all over her legs, and her arms and guess what the culprit is?
    Penicillin

Well my question to you is can we start your recommended protocol, and continue with the prescribed protocol above.
I would love to show her her dermatologist in a few months that the ezcema is almost/completely healed and “shout from the roof tops homeopathy” xxx

Any way Joette I apologise for the lengthy question, I would like to thank you, they thought Mum has a heart problem, she was going for an ECG I gave her Arnica 6c pronto. the ECG was normal. Thankyou xxxx
    All my love Andrea

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You may not realize it but you’re asking me to take your case and I can not do that on this forum. Should you be interested in meeting with me you may contact my office.

      1. Andrea says:

Ahh Ok thanks Joette, um I would love you to take a case, sadly I live in England and couldn’t physically meet you, can we skype, I won’t be able to afford it yet but if we can skype and your office can give me an idea of the costs I think in the future its something we could arrange. God Bless xxx

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I work with clients in England on a regular basis and in fact, I only meet virtually and do so on Zoom. Feel free to contact my office when you ‘re ready.

      2. Andrea says:

Sorry I tried to reply before. I thank you I have contacted the office, but I live in England so its not possible to physically see you, which is darn shame. Any way if we can skype or discuss, and work out the cost of your consults lets do this. Its been 18 months now, Banerji Protocols are a life saver but I do need support.

  52. Janice Burlet says:

My husband is a kidney transplant 21 yrs now. my question is related to the many skin cancer surgeries he is experiencing now due to the side effects of his kidney meds which he has to continue. Would Camphor also delete his meds along with the their surgical meds? I do use homeopathics for him like the hypericum 200 for pain especially his shingle outbreaks and a few other for specifics he suffers. Thank you for all you do to keep us healthy and advised……..jan b

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

CAmphor only antidotes the ill effects of drugs and will not interfere with allopathic drugs.

  53. M says:

My brother took steroid for poison oak and now he has drug induced psychosis. Would you recommend the best of action would be to give him Camphor to clean the case and find a homeopthy to give the right remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor is a good start to help antidote but more for the present condition is needed. Should you be interested, I cover these kinds of conditions in my on-line course “Mindful Homeopathy’>

      1. M says:

I’m very interested. Please provide the link or let me know how I can sign-up for the course.

        1. M says:

Thank I just found the course. May I ask how much you would charge to take the case?

        2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

pls contact my office and Eileen will be happy to answer your questions. 561.537. 5900. 10-4:30PM, EST

  54. Katy says:

Joette, I am about to have a kidney stone removal that *requires* an intravenous antibiotic in the OR and an oral antibiotic daily for the following week. I tried to question and fight it, but they said there’s no way to do the procedure if I don’t take the antibiotic. I will be using the surgery protocol and continue using the Banerji protocol for kidney stones. While I am taking the antibiotic (since it appears I have no choice), should I take Camphora 200 at the end of the week of antibiotics, or after each dose? Also, would you recommend taking Camphora the day of the procedure (to combat the effects of anesthesia) and then again at the end of the week of antibiotics, or should I just wait until after the antibiotics, since the Camphora could interfere with the homeopathic medicines I’ll be taking post-op? I hope my questions make sense. Thank you for your time and for your wonderful blog!

  55. Kathi says:

I was diagnosed with RA in 2012 and have been taking 10mg of Prednisone daily since. My doctor retired and my new doc says I should never have been prescribed it like that but that to quit taking it, I have to reduce by only 1mg per month, but likely would need to continue forever at a lower dose – around 7mg. We tried it and I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I really want to get off this drug! Other options?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy certainly addresses RA but its not a matter of a simple suggestion. The entire case would need to be taken.

  56. PINTU says:

    Hello Joette,

I am 31 years male 5’8″ 56 kgs. I have taken Lycopodium 30 by myself for my little gas issues for 20 days continuously 4 drops once in the morning everyday. I have started feeling better within 2-3 days after taking the medicine. Also there are some additional benefits like improvement in energy and increase sexual stamina (Although I didn’t have any kind of sexual problem).

But after 16-18 days I have started feeling some other new symptoms like pain in right abdomen, gas mostly in the evening, irritation and most frustrating thing is Premature ejaculation and less sexual desire.

So i gave a doubt on Lyco 30 and searched about it. I have found very few articles where I have read that if i am having new symptoms similar to medicine that means i am “PROVING” the medicine due to overdose. I have also read that its very dangerous and serious condition. I just get depressed and frustrated.

I have immediately consulted a Homeopath and tell him my condition. He didn’t told me much about this and prescribed me to take “Pulsatilla 30” for 4 small globules only once. I have already taken the Pulsatilla 30. It is almost 6 days gone but I am still suffering from the same symptoms.

Please help me out of this situation. I am very much in fear. Are these symptoms permanent? I feel like I have ruined my life by taking Lyco 30. I never had any kind of sexual issues or conditions in my entire life.

Please help me please. I can’t sleep properly from last 7 days due to this tense situation and continuously facing these problems especially Premature ejaculation. I had a very good sex life and never have this kind of issues in my life. This is just after taking the Lyco 30.

I can’t survive and live like that. Please help me and let me get out of this situation. I will always be grateful to you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Serious and dangerous? Who said such a thing? Proving a homeopathic is rarely more than an inconvenience. We use the antidote/s and more often than not life slowly returns to normal. Sometimes quickly.

      1. PINTU says:

        Hi Joette,

Thank you so much replying. Joetete, It’s been 9 days since I left the medicine. I have tried drinking coffee, rubbing Vicks and also a single dose of Pulsatilla 30 4 small globules. But the condition is still remain the same. I am still suffering from the above mentioned new symptoms.

What to do Joette? Plz reply….

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

From your post, I wonder if we’re discussing the same situation. Have you read my article thoroughly?

  57. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Is there a way to “antidote” a remedy from a container? I’d like to re-use some tiny bottles to put remedies in for my husband to carry. Is it true that you need to boil them for 20 minutes to clear the old substance?

    Blessings & thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Yes, that’s the method.

      1. Rachel says:

Thank you for your time. 🙂

  58. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

How would one go about clearing a remedy out of a stock tank which can neither be boiled nor exposed to the sun?

Silly me, I’d never given this a second thought when treating our animals. We simply watched the remedy work beautifully and then just emptied the water out and cleaned it on our normal schedule and with our normal methods.

    Many thanks once again.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If it’s working I wouldn’t give it a thought. Just keep going.

  59. Rachel says:

Terrific, thank you. Practical advise as usual, your method is well named.

So far none of the critters are looking over their shoulder or thinking themselves wealthy or anything, so it doesn’t seem to be causing any provings. 😀 I’ll carry on!

If a remedy acts beautifully after repeated use for several months and then begins to show signs of proving, can I just stop the remedy completely without antidoting? In my mind, it wouldn’t make sense to antidote something that worked marvelously. I think I just administered it for too long. Will time take care of it? I think that’s how I understood what you described. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Your thinking is correct. I’ve never witnessed a proving that didn’t diminish over time.

  61. Sarah W says:

Thank you for the response; very helpful.

  62. Lexa says:

Hi, so I have a question. A Dr. told me the other day that antibiotics can affect the whole family for 18 months after taking them because it gets out by your sweat and breathe. So I was wondering if one of the things the camphor does is neutralizes it so it can’t do that?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m sorry but I have no experience with such.

  63. Karen payne says:

I took Silicea and I think it is moving my tooth implant does sulfur or camphor cancel this out.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor is a good antidoting medicine for many.

  64. amy says:

hi joette, i am 30 yr ,i was given pulsatilla 10m two doses 6 months back, for the complaint of delayed menses, after 15 days menses appeared, but then i started with severe palpitations with anxiety, so i was suggested to take puls30 every 15 days ,i used to feel better after puls30 for limited period of time, like first 15 days then 1 month. it used to reappear after the effect of medicine lapses, then i was suggested to take camphora200 one dose , i was better for one week, then again i started with palpitations which can be felt in my head on sleeping, so doctor suggested me bell 200 one dose ,which releived me for one week then he told me to take bell 1m one dose (water dose) which releived me for 15 days , still i m feeling palptation with rapid heart rate especially at night in sleep , did ecg echo every thing is normal, plz suggest me sumthing natural home remedy to antidote,,coz any homeo medicine i take i start proving it on my body,

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s not your body. Its the prescription.

  65. Wendy says:

Hi Joette, I had a bad reaction (pain) to a birth control pill I took 15+ years ago that hasn’t gone away. I was told it might be possible for me to make a homeopathic antidote from the drug itself. If you agree, could you direct me to some directions on how to do that? Is this something that Sulphur or Camphor would be helpful with, or too longstanding of a problem?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The length of time doesn’t matter. I can’t teach you how to make a medicine or how to approach this subject in a blog response but I cover this in my course, “Toxic” as well as “Survivalist Guide to Homeopathy”.
Also search my blog; Its a therapeutic index.
      For example https://joettecalabrese.com/blog/homeopathy/stop-it-how-to-antidote-a-bad-drug-reaction/
Having said this, don’t expect this to clear everything. More will likely be needed.

  66. Sangrita says:

can one take camphor 200 every time one starts a new protocol, because the previous one didn’t work or gave unwanted symptoms?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t want to overuse Camphor but if there are unwanted symptoms from having taken the wrong medicine it would be correct to use it.

  67. Sonja says:

I made a bit of a mess with my remedies, and now I need some help.

I took sulphur 200ch twice daily for 4 days because it seemed it could help my skin and digestive problems.

then, somehow, I stopped sulphur and started the Banerji protocol for Acidity, ie. Natrum phos 30ch and Arsenicum Album 3x.
I took it for a few days but then, the Arsenicum album finished and I only continued with the Nat Phos 30 ch for another few days, before this remedy finished also.
Its quite tough now to get remedies due to the slow shipping speed.

So, now, I haven’t taken any remedies since a week and since 2 days, my old gastric symptoms have increased three fold. lots of abdominal pain due to flatulence and acid reflux and low back pain that is really bad.

Now, before I started the remedies, I took camphor 200 once, but have taken it already 3 times in 2 months. One dose after 2 or 3 weeks… so, I am not sure if I can take Camphor 200 again, or will it do some damage.

I realize I messed up, and that’s why I started the Good Gut Bad Gut course, since I need to know more. I just started but in the meantime,

My question is: is this increased pain due to an aggravation of one of the remedies I took but have then stopped?

is there anything I can do now, or will this eventually get better or not?

  68. Sangrita says:

would it be too much or maybe dangerous if camphor 200 once, is used 4 times within 2 months? Does camphor have any negative side effects if it is used too often?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are no side effects per se in homeopathy. The best way to understand the scope of a homeopathic medicine is to read up on it in your materia medica.
4 times in one month is a bit over the top but not because I consider it dangerous but because it may mean that the prescriber is unsure of himself and is being sloppy.

  69. Sangrita says:

Thank you for that reply. It is true. I am unsure about myself and the treatment and therefore I am taking the GGBG course.

    I really need it.

    One more question though please.
When I read up in the materia medica about a remedy, then, maybe only 3 symptoms apply out of 100? and actually the other symptoms don’t apply at all.
for example, feeling worse at 4 pm or feeling better with heat does not at all apply. so, my question is:

can a remedy still be helpful even though out of 100 symptoms only 3-4 apply? Thank you for any reply.
    Merry Christmas

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Absolutely! The materia medica covers all possibilities for many hundreds or even more; not all possibilities for one person.
One or two keynotes are often all that’s needed to match.

  70. Sangrita says:

I took Lyco 200 and Ars 3 for long standing bloating/gas due to +++antibiotic overuse in the past before I knew better. I took the lyco+ars for a couple of days before I started to feel uneasy, because the bloating/gas increased +++. then I stopped, and took one dose of Lyco 200 only, since there was no burning in my tummy before, but with the Lyco/Ars, suddenly had burning in my abdomen.
question: if this is an aggravation then, will this eventually all calm down in few weeks time, or could such an aggravation even last longer without any ill effects? or… would it be better to antidote with comphor or mint?

Is it possible for an aggravation to last weeks? if one took the protocol only for a few days? and did not continue for months?
or, does that mean something else is going on and some kind of damage has been done?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      I’m sorry that you’re suffering.
An aggravation rarely if ever occurs when using these protocols. If a condition ensues after using a protocol, it’s generally a sign that it is an incorrectly chosen medicine. I assume you’ve taken my course Good Gut Bad gut where this is taught.
‘Interesting that your question comes in on the heels of this article. pls read it carefully; and read it again. Then look for other articles that I’ve published on antidoting.

  71. Sonia says:

what happens if one forgets to give Camphor at the beginning of starting a protocol. will the remedy still work? or is it better to stop (if the remedy was only given for one week), take camphor for one day and then again start with the protocol?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the medicine has begun to act, and time is of the essence, it might be better to carry on and not waste time. If it has not, it can be restarted.
Many a homeopath commences a schedule without ever using Camphor and the medicine still acts fully.

  72. Aly says:

What if someone gets a physical proving like extra weight gain from taking Calc Carb during pregnancy & then antidotes with Camphor months later, the weight gain doesn’t just disappear right? How long does it generally take to see a physical proving like petechiae disappear? Do you cover petechiae and cherry angiomas in any of your courses or have you ever written on these? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      I don’t understand your 1st question.
I discuss petechiae, and I believe angiomas, etc. in my online course “Skin the Ugly Truth”.

      1. Aly says:

I was wondering generally how long it takes for a physical symptom such as weight gain or petechiae to go away after antidoting with camphor?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I’d question whether a homeopathic could/would cause a condition that is pretty commonly found during pregnancy, whether it be weight gain or petechai.

          1. Aly says:

I greatly appreciate your insight. I guess I figured that taking Arnica 3c + Hamamelis 200c for varicose veins rather consistently during the pregnancy and postpartum (as well as Arnica 200c immediately for a couple weeks after birth to help with soreness and afterpains) would have either prevented petechiae or healed them by 4 months postpartum. If that’s not the case, how long have you generally seen it take for petechiae to heal with a homeopathic? I would assume the varicose vein protocol would also be the one for petechiae since that combination is supposed to swallow up blood clots…?

  73. Madane says:

Hi Joette, so I got the c19 vaccine (both doses) and since developed dizziness/vertigo/migraine symptoms. While researching on line it’s looking like people who have a history of migraine or vestibular issues are getting the same problems. It’s been a miserable month and a half and while others have said that the symptoms eventually go away I was wondering if Camphor or Sulphur would be a useful to antidote. Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

When our goal is to antidote the action of a drug, using the method I teach here usually represents only step one. The following steps will need to include specific homeopathic medicines for the actual condition at hand. I’ve written about vertigo here on the blog as well as certain kinds of headaches.

      1. Madane says:

        Thank you soooo much!

      2. Gabriela says:

The same happened to me when I got covid. Is there anything you could recommend me to do?

  74. Nick says:

    Hi Joette,

For a patient who experiences stomach/gut offset and nightly reflux shortly after an acute round of antibiotics, would the one day use of camphor 200 be indicated prior to use of iris versicolor 200 BID for 3 months or would Iris alone be sufficient?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

We use Camphor to open any chronic case.

      1. Nick says:

Got it. Thanks for clarifying! And in another antibiotic post you mentioned Iris 200 to uproot reflux caused by antibiotics. Is that also for chronic cases or can that be used for acute cases(<2mo), or would it not matter?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Also for chronic as long as the medicine fits the condition.

          1. Nick says:

Perfect! Thank you! I have been reading your blogs learning what I can whenever I have free time before I get enough to buy the GGBG course. This is really eye opening stuff. I purchased your Materia Medica book for a reference.

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

            Good going, Nick.
You might want to consider joining a Gateway to Homeopathy Study Group as well. Group learning adds another dimension.

  75. Heather Martin Cooper says:

Hello, I am seeking clarification about starting a Banerji protocol for Covid-19. Not surprisingly, they say start with Camphor 200, STAT. What length of time is necessary to wait before proceeding with the other remedies in the Covid protocol? I realize it’s usually 1 dose, 1 day. With active symptoms, there is an urgent sense of wanting to start the other meds. Many thanks for everything you’re doing. I love your Monday nights, blog, study groups and courses!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

My method is to commence as soon as possible when approaching an acute. That could mean as early as within a few hours.

  76. Gabriela says:

This is pretty scary. There are so many alternatives to homeopathic remedies, that if I want to cure anxiety, but I get the wrong one, I am going to end up even worse. Is that what you are saying or I completely misunderstood you?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

‘Not scary at all. If one doesn’t follow the directions, gives the medicine over and over in spite of it not acting, then just like anything, including essential oils, vitamins, supplements, drugs, etc. there can be repercussions. The difference here is that we have a clear, well-defined solution when something goes awry.

  77. Dave says:

To treat gout, I started taking Colchicum Autumnale 30c, daily. About a month later, simulatenously and bilaterally, every joint in my body hurts. Hands, knees, elbows, and seemingly especially, hips. The pain is like electricity, hot, and rheumatic. And it seems the most painful joint moves around daily.
So, I think I have gone “too far”. I am off of this remedy now for about a week, how long could I expect these effects to last or… Do you recommend an antidote in my case? You’re a saint to reply to all these posts so many years later.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I don’t offer personal recommendations on this platform. My mission is to encourage folks to take their health into their own hands by educating them with the best tools I know.

  78. Anna says:

Is it necessary to use Camphor before treating an Acute condition? Or is it best when starting a regimen for a chronic condition?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

When addressing an acute condition there’s usually no time to spare.

  79. Copernicus says:

Thanks for all of your helpful information. I appreciate it SO much.

I am considering starting my husband on some homeopathic remedies for some chronic conditions he has. Unfortunately, I suspect one or both of his conventional drugs are contributing to his significant fatigue (which is what I want to treat w homeopathy; he has other medical reasons for fatigue as well, however).

Anyway, following the protocol above, I would start w the single dose of camphor. Of course, this would help with old meds that he has taken previously, so potentially of benefit despite the reality that he is on and will continue on his current meds while simultaneously embarking on homeopathy. Lord willing, if he agrees.

Am I correct in my thinking? Still reasonable to start w camphor once for one day, and then proceed with other remedy/remedies?

    Thanks, and God bless.

  80. Gabriela says:

A couple of months on amytriptiline for ocd gave me tinnitus. It’s been with me for 3 years. Could you please help me?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I’ll be discussing tinnitus this Monday at 8PM ET on Facebook Live.

  81. Christine says:

Hello, My daughter’s eczema is made worse by dairy, though it is always there at a low level. She has used steroids in the past, but is no longer using anything. Would it be better to use the above protocol of antimonium crud and bovista, or the Banerji protocol for eczema of hepar slush and arsenicum album? (she also has acne, which we thought that would help with) Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I don’t offer personal advice on this site.
I strongly urge you to take deep stock of these kinds of conditions and get a deeper understanding of what you’re doing by taking my online courses, “Allergic” and “Good Gut Bad Gut”
      found here https://joettecalabrese.com/tag/homeopathic-courses/
      Don’t wing this one.

  82. Christine says:

Hello! If Camphor is taken to antidote something, will it cancel out the good effects of a protocol that one is currently following? So, if one is following a Banerji protocol, and during the protocol wishes to take Camphor to cancel out the effects of anesthesia from a procedure, will the Camphor harm the positive effects of the protocol? Thank you!

  83. Kristen says:

Hello Mrs Calabrese! Could Camphor be beneficial to someone experiencing a bad reaction from a vaccine? If not, what could be looked at as a possible remedy?

  84. A. says:

Hi Joette, I was having a lot of improvements to my insomnia with Staphysagria but then I started having a really uncomfortable aggravation where a lot of old symptoms return. I had to continue working and really could not afford to be on 2-4 hrs of sleep on weeknights so I took Camphora once. Left 1 day gap and started redosing, now I can’t get back to that better state again. Feels like the improvements I had on my remedy may have been lost. Any idea if it cancels out improvements too? And how long it would take to get back to the better state?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

      Move on.

  85. Gail says:

Hi Joette, I want to thank you for this post. You wrote it in 2016, and it is still doing so much good. This week I gave my dog Nexgard for flea/tick protection. Two days later she couldn’t stand from a sitting position. I was heartsick. Because 5-6 weeks earlier I did the same thing with the same result. Two vet visits, a battery of tests costing hundreds of dollars showed nothing. She was sent home with anti inflammatory tablets, which did nothing. So I treated her with your protocol of ledum and aurum arsenicum, guessing that she must have had a poisonous tick bite that infected her, because it was high tick season here…even though two Lyme tests were negative. Very slowly she got better over the ensuing 5-6 weeks, but not fully recovered. Still showing weakness in the evening. She is 3 1/2, but looked like a much older dog. The vet insisted it wasn’t the Nexgard, because low back weakness was not on the list of adverse reactions to Nexgard. So, stupidly, I repeated the treatment this week. Two days later, poor thing couldn’t stand from sitting, couldn’t do stairs. Once standing she was good to go, good appetite, no fever, etc. just severe weakness in the hind quarters, and I knew I had done this to her. What remorse! I knew the long road ahead. I never imagined there might be a homeopathic antidote for a Pharma drug, but that night looked for one anyway, and attached your name to my search. God bless you! What hope it gave me to see this post of yours. I woke her up just enough to give her Sulphur 200c. In the morning she was much improved already, and I switched her to sulphur30c 2D. This is just day 2 of that. Already I think she is better than she has been since before the first bad reaction. I have to say that it all looks to have worked out very well, mistakes and all, and if dogs could talk things would be so much easier…but, I hope never to be so wrong again!
Thank you, thank you! God be with you in this fine work you do.
PS…my husband says “Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved our dog!”

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

I wish there was a remedy for gaslighting. We could give it to all of the drug-pushing vets and MD’s out there that buy into the party line and condescendingly act like they know.
God bless YOU for instinctively knowing enough to keep digging until you found the answer.

  86. Antony says:

    Hi Joette,

You mention in this article the possibility of the “use of birth control pills followed by lifelong endometriosis.”

Do you have any sources/links/reference for more detail on birth control pills causing endometriosis? It’s pretty hard to find anything online.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

A quick chesk on my brower revealed this:
      https://drseckin.com/faqs-about-birth-control-pills-for-endometriosis/#:~:text=Recent%20research%20suggests%20that%20the,are%20new%20to%20the%20therapy.

It stands to reason. Endometriosis is an estrogen dependent condition. The more and longer used, the higher posibility of a condition developing and or remaining.
“The person who takes medicine (synthetic, drugs of commerce) must recover twice.
Once from the condition and once from the drug.” Dr. William Osler, a founding father of Johns Hopkins.
