Question: I’ve heard you say that owning homeopathic remedies is an investment, but is it safe to ignore expiration dates on the vials of remedies I purchased years ago? Don’t the remedies lose their effectiveness?
Reply: Yes, it’s safe, and no, remedies don’t lose their effectiveness! Allow me to illustrate:
While doing research for my first book years ago, I frequented the University of Buffalo’s Medical Library, where they archived homeopathy medical books and remedy kits used in Buffalo homeopathic hospitals from the 1800s to 1940s.
One of those days, while in the throes of my exploration in an old section of the library, I contracted a monumental headache, likely from the moldy and dusty surroundings.
There before me sat a homeopathy kit circa 1900. I asked myself, “Am I stealing by taking a dose or is this furthering my research?” Whether it was the call of science or the pain in my forehead, I can’t say which was more compelling. I took (stole) a dose of Kali bichromicum 30, and within 20 minutes, the pain adroitly melted away. The pills were at least 110 years old, yet they were just as efficacious as the kit I keep in my linen closet!
To further my point, a week or so later, the same kind of headache reappeared after helping my aunt in her basement. This time I used Kali bichromicum 30 from my own kit at home. The results were precisely the same.
Can you think of anything like this in modern medicine?
Yeah, me neither.
Another story that demonstrates the same point is when an 85-year-old client came to me bearing gifts. He had been cleaning the house and came across some remedies from when he was a child. Some of them were dated from even before that time because his mother was an MD homeopath in Chicago around the turn of the last century. I consider these bottles precious, so I framed and hung them in my office.
This was about 15 years ago, and before I enclosed the remedies in the shadow box, I used one of them for my cat, who had sneezing fits every spring.
Hay fever in a cat? Yes, Carmelina suffered every spring until I gave her a few doses of the old remedy Sabadilla 200C, and it worked just as efficaciously as if it had been manufactured last month. (Two doses per day for about one week did the trick.)
I’ve found time and again that remedies are more durable and have consistent and even greater value than many other precious things in life … even after a century.
Jewelry? Gold bars? Antique carpets? Lovely.
But give me a homeopathic remedy that will offer my grandchildren and great-grandchildren relief from suffering.
Now that’s a sound investment!
Question: I’ve heard that coffee antidotes remedies. Does this mean I must stop drinking coffee if I want homeopathy to help me?
Reply: Coffee can indeed antidote the action of remedies if one is unaccustomed to drinking it. For example, if someone drinks a cup of coffee once every few weeks, then when they take a remedy followed by coffee, they might find that the remedy stops acting, and old symptoms may return.
I say it might because not everyone is sensitive to these kinds of antidotes. If, however, one drinks coffee daily, then it becomes a part of who they are, and we find that it is not a problem and can be drunk without concern.
By the way, it’s not caffeine but coffee. So tea, chocolate and soda will not antidote.
Question: If I’m taking drugs like Synthroid, can I still take homeopathic remedies?
Reply: Certainly! I’m sure you’ve noticed, most of our society is on drugs. I’ve met a number of people on as many as ten and even more daily drugs. It would be a sad circumstance if the only folks who could benefit from homeopathy were those who have successfully skirted the drug lifestyle.
For those who have been taking drugs for years, recovery can take longer, but it’s not recommended that folks injudiciously stop their meds.
Instead, we expect the remedy to act so that the illness is less trying, and they can return to the prescribing doctor to discuss reducing the number of drugs.
As the synthetic stuff is decreased and the action of the remedy performs, the person begins to recover a more genuine level of health.
As always, our goal is to bring the person to authentic health without props whenever possible.
Learn some homeopathy. If nothing else, it will give you perspective. At best, it may cure something you may have thought was incurable.
If you are considering purchasing your own kit, now is the time. Well-priced kits will advance your move to homeopathy.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Lovely article Joette! Will put the link up on my site for readers! It is amazing how long remedies keep their potency!!
Many thanks for sharing, but please reference my site and the Banerji name.
Best to you in the UK!
I’ve read that strong odor like a camphor odor can also antidotes remedies. What do you think Joette?
I really ought to write specifically on this subject as it is one of the most common questions we receive in my office. In my experience, most people can get away with using peppermint toothpaste while using homeopathics. However, if one is using both and the remedy seems to not be acting, then it will become clear that the mint is too strong for that person and its time to use something else, like baking soda for teeth brushing.
Are essential oils OK to use while taking homeopathic remedies? I have heard about peppermint can antidotes remedies.. Thank you!

If a bottle of a remedy is open and camphor (or most any aromatic or strong chemical) is present in a considerable (quite noticeable) amount, it may antidote the contents.
The bottom line is that these little pills are pretty hardly little buggers.
Please pass it om to friends, colleagues, neighbors. Let’s get this movement going; it will make this kind of information more readily available to all.
If a bottle of a remedy is exposed to an x-ray, specifically, the equipment used in the airport to screen luggage, will this antidote or damage the contents?
Please see my comment above.
Hi Joette,
Does temperature and humidity affect the remedies? I keep my kit in my linen closet, but my house is quite humid and sometimes I worry.
How about international travel? I ask the security people to hand check my remedies instead of passing them through X-ray, but I read that the radiation of the plane itself during long trips my antidote the remedies. Do you have any experience with that?
Thanks,
Paula
The remedies I mentioned above were in a damp, dusty old library and they were perfect. Additionally, after working in very hot weather in India, where homeopathy is used by millions, I’ll report that I’ve never heard of any problems with humidity.
I’ve traveled with my remedies across the globe and for years asked the authorities to keep them from xrays so as to protect them. Then, on my last trip through the Orient, I came across some officials who wouldn’t allow me to keep them out of xrays and they are just fine.
Additionally, the trips I’ve taken are often clear across the earth and the rems still act as they should.
I believe that most of the fears are speculative.
Hi Joette
thank you for all the information you give us from your blog and facebook entries- I really appreciate it!
I have one question: over the weekend, you posted an article about headaches, and then you posted a facebook entry on headaches related to hormones. If I take a homeopathic remedy for a headache and it is the wrong one, what issues could I run into?
I am looking at ordering both sepia 200 and the kali bic 30 to have ready for the next headache but wanted to make sure I would not have any problems if I got them mixed up by taking one for the wrong type of headache.
thanks
Mihaela
If the remedy is incorrect, you will have one of 2 responses: it will do nothing which means it will simply not act OR it will act in a way that is negative. What I mean by that is that it may cause new symptoms to come forth. This usually doesn’t happen though, unless the remedy is repeated over a period of many days. If this happens, my best secret that I hope will not be a secret is to simply take an antidoting substance to halt the action of the “wrong” remedy. It usually stops the action within a day or so (depending on the person, the remedy choice, frequency and length of time of being used) but often within a few days does the trick. My favorite antidoting substance is Camphor 200.
Of course you can experiment, but I always like to be more certain of the cause of the headaches and its not difficult to determine if you are observant.
Is it alright to brush your teeth with a toothpaste containing peppermint oil while taking a homeopathic remedy or will this antidote the remedy? Thanks in advance Joette.

you’re right and I must say that homeopathic remedies are aqua complex compounds so they are able to retain their properties for a long time
Joette, thanks so much for posting this!! And you know why I’m saying this. Ha ha!!!
Love, Cheli
Hi Cheli, ‘Nice to know you’re still here (er, there).
Joette, thank you for all the posts! I learn so much by reading them. I’ve been wondering if you can take a remedy with an herbal tincture together? I take several remedies(prescribed by you) and herbal tinctures also. sometimes may take a couple of hours just to take my ‘medicine’ in the morning and evening!!
Thank you,
Sherri
Remedies and herbal tinctures are fine together… like love and marriage.
I’m considering getting the kit in your offer. My hesitation is not the quality of the products or even the price, but if I will actually have the time to learn how to use the remedies and then remember to reach for them first.
I have a question for you. My 13 year old niece just had her second concussion (first was in a soccer game last fall, this one was from rough housing with friends). Is there a remedy or combination of remedies that can be applied? For the next 3 weeks she is to be basically isolated with no stimulation by light, noise, movement, etc.
Thank you so much.
The main remedy used for head injuries is Arnica 200. However, after having witnessed head injuries in Calcutta, I learned that the remedy of choice of the Banerjis, for ailments due to head injuries is Cuprum 200. I’ve used both and neither one has failed me. This includes a rather serious concussion my husband sustained after a ski injury some years ago.
It’s not only easy to remember to turn to the remedies but it becomes down right compelling to do so once you’ve experienced the joy of curing.
Great article. Interesting information on coffee. I was taught it depended on individual remedy. Some remedies like Nux vomica can be put in coffee and still work as I have some women do this for angry husbands. I used ignatia one time and was feeling very joyful. I finished off some coffee a few hours later and the joy vanished. Could be just my individual system or maybe some remedies like gelsemium and ignatia are more easily antidoted?
You have a point, but more often than not, I’ve noted that if coffee is drunk daily, the remedies are often not affected. However, with the method I employ of using a remedy daily, any antidoting will be less of a threat since the remedy will be repeated the following day.
Having said this, I find that some people are simply more susceptible than others.
Hi Joette,
I’ve been getting your emails for a while now, and have been really considering buying your 100 kit that is n sale, to supplement the small kit I have from years ago. When my children were young (I have 6 sons) I used homeopathy on a fairly regular basis, and then for some reason totally forgot about using it until recently when I started reading your articles.
My problem right now that I am dealing with is congestion/cough that in turn developed into Pleurisy. :-(. I have had Pleurisy only one other time in my life, and that was when I was in college.
Of course doctors would have me take anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen) for the Pleurisy, instead I have been taking lots of Fish Oil. Some days I feel better, others like today I really hurt, and the coughing from the congestion just makes it worse. I’m not sure what remedy I should be trying.
Any recommendation?
Thanks
6 sons! You have experience with homeopathy more than most. ‘Happy to hear that you’ve returned to homeopathy.
I do hope you’ll consider the kit. I bought mine over 19 years ago and still use it regularly.
For something like pleurisy, it would require taking the full case. Should you be interested in speaking for a few minutes to determine wherever you’d like to work with me, feel free to contact my office.
Dear Joette,
I am considering buying a resonance machine to make my remedies. I also thought I could rejuvenate old remedies. What do you think of these machines?
Thank you,
Carolyn Smith
Send me the link so I can take a look.
God gifted you Joette I and the world are grateful you give yourself away. God continue blessing you as you share, share, and share!
