Last week, I mentioned that one of the problems I see repeatedly is antibiotic use leading to recurring infections.
This week, I focus on a recurring infection that is all too familiar to many women: The UTI-from-Hell that keeps coming back time after time.
Jean started getting recurring urinary tract infections in her twenties, soon after she got married, and she seemed to get another one almost every two months.
Over the first 6 months, the antibiotics cleared them up quickly. But, after three or four UTIs, the “mild” antibiotics stopped working and Jean had to resort to stronger drugs such as Cipro and Levaquin.
However, those antibiotics come with serious warnings from the FDA.
Within about a year, Jean developed pain in her legs and feet. It took years before she made the connection, even after meeting with her OBGYN, that this was called neuropathy and tendonitis.
If Jean (or her doctor) had read the warning labels on the insert, she (they) might have understood the cause of these conditions, but Jean trusted her doctor and his assumed attention to detail.
After all, these were the tools of his trade.
Fatigue, bloating, and yeast infections were merely the first conditions she suffered during that initial year and in fact, when she looked back, she concluded she hadn't been well since her original UTI.
But her conclusion that it was the infection that set her up for chronic illness was wrong. She hadn't been well since the treatment of that primary UTI. This is a common mistake when folks try to figure out what happened to their health.
But the thing that bothered Jean the most was the weight gain! She had always been naturally slim and never had to watch what she ate. After her repeated infections (and subsequent antibiotic use), she had to avoid many foods that caused uncomfortable bloating and a growing girth.
Plus, despite the fact that she was eating much less than she used to, she was gaining weight! And she couldn’t exercise much because of the tendon and nerve pain.
She felt old.
She felt gypped.
Her weight gain made her feel ashamed of her body.
At that point, although Jean and her husband were hoping to start a family, she wasn't sure she wanted to try for pregnancy because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to handle being a mother due to the severity of her fatigue.
Jean’s health and emotional state were a mess.
Because of antibiotics.
If only Jean had been aware of natural, effective homeopathic medicines that have been known for centuries for their ability to uproot urinary tract infections without side effects and antibiotic fallout!
As I have said before, reserve the use of antibiotics for truly life-threatening conditions. (That is, if you don’t know what to do homeopathically.) And this isn’t just my opinion.
Read this:
“… Serious side effects associated with fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs generally outweigh the benefits for patients with acute sinusitis, acute bronchitis, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections who have other treatment options. For patients with these conditions, fluoroquinolones should be reserved for those who do not have alternative treatment options.”
Who said that?
The FDA!
For those who are not from the U.S., this is the ever powerful, Federal Food and Drug Administration.
That’s right … that quote is not from some alternative health site that the mainstream medical community might label as an outlier.
No. That statement was made by the FDA as they began to recognize that with strong antibiotics — such as Cipro and Levaquin that are regularly prescribed for UTIs — the risk of harm often outweighs the good.
Read their entire warning yourself: https://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm500143.htm
Stunning, isn’t it?
But this is not new to homeopaths. We’ve known for over two centuries that drugs do harm. That at best, they kick the can down the road and at worst (and most commonly), cause new, unintended chronic illness.
This means there is a trade-off that is not only unintended but undisclosed, long-term, and even potentially life-altering.
As the words “alternative treatment options” from that article reverberate in our heads, you may be wondering how have I uprooted recurring UTIs without resorting to antibiotics?
Well, my favorite method is the Banerji protocol of Medorrhinum 200C, twice a day (in severe cases, every three hours). If there is a fever present, I add Pyrogenium 200C, once a day. And unlike with antibiotics, that protocol comes with no risk of ruptured tendons, neuropathy, muscle pain, or fatigue.
As is common in teaching these protocols, I must make it clear that this particular protocol is not the only one I use. There are others, which depend on the symptoms and circumstances. For example, if Jean had repeated UTIs as the result of intimate relations, we’d have to consider Staphysagria 200CK. Without the presence of fever, we’d likely add Cantharis 30C.
You get the idea. There’s a little more to this than just the remedies listed here. Which is why, of course, it requires a course for a more in-depth understanding of how to effectively address and treat the issue.
When concerned that an acute UTI may be more complicated or serious than you feel capable of handling, and as I have recommended repeatedly (including in podcasts), you can always drive to your local emergency room and sit in the parking lot while you wait for the remedy to act.
Bring a pack of cards or a good book along with your remedies, and relax. Listen to some music. You’ll have the peace of mind knowing you can allow the remedy to take effect while staying close to traditional medical assistance if needed.
P.S. I want nothing more than for you to be educated about “alternative treatment options” for many different infections. And that’s exactly what my new course, The Antibiotic Alternative, is designed to do. If you’re eager for me to teach you how to avoid antibiotic fallout for other infections by giving you practical, proven homeopathic protocols, please click here!
Owning this information might be one of the most important things you do for yourself and your family; for infections, as they present as well as protection from ubiquitous antibiotic fallout.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Hi Joette! What do you do in her situation (several UTIs followed by antibiotics leading to prolonged weight gain and fatigue)? This is my story as well and I’m *still* not back to my previous energy level/weight/ability to digest foods without bloating. How does one recover from several rounds of antibiotics?
There’s usually more to a case than just fatigue and weight gain after antibiotics. We often find food intollerances, bloating, constipation, hormonal disturbances such as menstrual irregularities etc. And we use these symptoms to put together a schedule of homeopathics to uproot the overall condition.
I teach how to go about uprooting these conditions in my course, Good Gut Bad Gut.
I was excited to read this article, until I found the racist word you included. I hope you will consider going back and editing that word for something you really mean. Thank you!
http://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/12/30/242429836/why-being-gypped-hurts-the-roma-more-than-it-hurts-you
The word was well chosen and if you find racism in it, I think you’re digging too deeply.
Yes, digging too deeply!
It’s so deep i don’t even know what word is being referred to
Hi Joette,
I am one of the people that you describe above. I was always very healthy until my second marriage when I started to get UTI’s every month. Eventually the antibiotics barely worked and I was prescribed Levaquin. I had a reaction after the second dose and my body has never been the same. I have since developed a leaky gut, SIBO and a host of other problems. My food sensitivities prevent me from eating anything other than 7 or 8 safe foods. I have tried homeopathy several times but had a reaction similar to the Levaquin reaction twice and now I am afraid to try it again. I am trying to overcome these conditions but it has been extremely difficult.
thank you for your very valuable information!
Jutta
If the condition worsened and remained that way, the homeopathic remedies you received were incorrect.
Joette, could you please do a post about neuropathy caused by past statin use, causing pain in the feet and legs?
Thanks, its a good idea and will add it to our list.
Hello Jutta
I am one of those levaquin people too and strangely, a homeopathic remedy (classical approach) also worsened my antibiotic poisoning symptom (tendon pain) and made me fearful to try it again even though I think it really might help with some issues.
.
Hi,
as you wrote – ” If there is a fever present, I add Pyrogenium 200c”, by this, did you mean Pyrogenium 200c is given after Medorrhinum 200c ( in Gap) or it’s to be taken with Medorrhinum 200c like many other Banerji Protocols (combination of two medicines at a time)?
with regards,
.
No, they’re not mixed but taken separately.
What about for kids? Do you recommend the same protocol and dosage? My daughter is 5 and her daily or said to watch for utis since she has a slight labial adhesion. Thankful she hasn’t had any yet just want to be prepared.
Generally speaking we use the same potencies and frequencies for any age.
Joette, is there a remedy that addresses a UTI that doesn’t have the classic burning and urgency symptoms? For instance a cramping feeling front and back (almost like menstrual cramps), a sense of fullness in the bladder (but not urgency), and twinges (not really pain) in the bladder? Medorrhinum was employed but the symptoms only continued to worsen. I don’t mean for you to “take a case”, I only bring it up because I’ve talked to other women who have had similar experiences with UTI’s.
There are many medicines that are used for UTI’s. On this blog, I teach the remedies that will correct a large number of UTI’s but not all. Instead, I save more in depth teachings for my courses. As much as I would love to give readers all the answers here, it just isn’t the forum for such becuase of the depth and breadth of human health.
Kim, Did you ever find a protocol to help with this type of UTI? I have the same situation now and do not want to end up at the dcotor’s taking a antibiotic! I also have health anxiety to make things worse. I tried to find other protocols Joette has mentioned, but this post seems to be the only one.
So what happened to Jean, did her symptoms from the antibiotic improve by using homeopathy?
The protocol for repeated UTIs as a result of intimate relations, you say to add Catharis 30c when there is no fever. I thought I saw this before to add if fever was present. Was this a typo or am I mistaken? Thank you
If after intimate relations, the remedy is more often Staphasagria whether with fever or not. But to be clear, there are many ways to skin a cat and my goal is to give as many specific situations as I can.
Will these remedies work with my cat? Will homeopaths work with animals?
I can’t say that they will “work” for your cat, but we use the exact same medicines, potencies, etc. for animals.
Thank you!! Now to find a homeopath to work with my cat!!
I have worked with cats on SKYPE, should you be interested. If so, feel free to contact my office and Eileen will walk you through the process.
Hi Joette, is this a course that has a time deadline? My life is very busy right now, is this something I can do at my own pace? Thanks much!
The time deadline is in purchasing it, but we have plenty of folks who don’t get to their course many months or even years late. I know what you mean by having time crunches.
Thanks for the info! Would you also suggest this remedy during pregnancy if all the symptoms of a UTI are present, but the urinalysis and culture come back clear of infection?
I can’t make a specific recommendation for you, but the circumstances you mention would not preclude their use.
I am a new student and I only have the 100 remedy kit, how do I get the Medorrhinum ?
What do you think of using Vitamin C and Demanose as following up preventive remedies ?
Simply click on the name fo the medicine in the blog and it will take you to the place where it can be purchased.
Supplements and VItamins are ok meanwhile.
Just found out that it’s not a “bladder” issue after all– pelvic floor dysfunction! Causing UTI symptoms. Working with a homeopath but will probably have to seek out some physical therapy as well. Looking through your articles– have been taking Mag Phos 6 but will give your “Mug Phos” protocol a try if things start spasm-ing again. Thanks so much for your info!
Is the dosage the same for a child my daughter is 4 and has kidney reflux so she gets them every so often and usually the only way we can tell is by a high fever with no other symptoms. They say as she gets older she will outgrow this.
The number of pills is printed on the side of the bottle for adults and children.
I’m a certified classical homeopath and am at my wits end trying to treat my own recurrent utis. I have tried many homeopathic protocols including those mentioned above and many herbal protocols with little or no success. I feel despite the side effects I have no option but to resort to antibiotics. I am aware that the drugs are having less of an effect each time I take them and also have gained substantial weight where I never had an issue before and have definite hormonal changes- both I believe are due to the drugs. However it is also important to note utis left untreated can potentially to kidney infections and sepsis.
I cover this condition in great detail in my course “Alternative to Antibiotics”, particularly those incalcitrant cases. It’s not available on my site just yet, but should you be interested, feel free to contact me here again or simply call my office from 9-4:30 EST, M-F and Sat until 2. I also take personal cases, if this suits you.

Have you though if using the ecoli nosode? I have the same problem with a family
Member and someone suggested I try this.
You mean for an e-coli infection?
Yes UTI infections that always test positive for ecoli. She started getting them after starting kindergarten. That year she had embeded strep infections. Before I found a homeopath of course she took antibiotics a few time. The strep the homeopath treated with the strep nosod (that year)and she never had it again she in now 20. She has been plagued by UTI’s all her life I have tried all your protocols(over time) and the one from the Banerji book and they show no results after weeks the infections stay the same so someone suggested I try this nosode. We are desparate to not take more antibiotics but last year we tried for too long and she ended up 3 days in the hospital with septcemia. many of her other issues we are doing well with some protocols just not this one. I know this is not a place for case taking I was just wondering if anyone else has ever tried this.
Helios offers two types of medorrhinum. Medorrhinum Americana (Gonorrhoal potencies from America 1994) and medorrhinum (Glinicum Microbiological Name: Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The nosode of Gonorrhoea..) Does it matter which nosode to use for uti?
hi!! i’ve had 3 utis in the past six months. i went to the doctor a month ago because i thought i had another one. but everything came up negative. bladder infection, kidney infections, stds- EVERYTHING!! well now its been a month with me having frequent urination, and now mild abdominal discomfort. what should i do?
I don’t take cases here on this blog. Should you be interested in meeting with me, you may make contact with my office. Should you instead be interested in taking a course, “The Antibiotic Alternative” teaches how to take on more complex situations, such as what you’re describing. It can be found on this site under “Courses”.
I healed my son from UTI with Nux vomica in 15 min. We were at the water park for two days when just after we packed up and were ready to go home he started feeling the urge to urinate. He would go to the bathroom again and again with extreme urge and he told me it burned when he urinated. I thought to myself, OMG he has UTI. I looked up his symptoms and I was 100% certain that he had it. Thank’s god for the internet and my homeopathy kit. I looked up homeopathic remedies for UTI and Nux vomica was one of the main three. It matched his symptoms exactly plus his mental and emotional picture at the moment and in general. I had Nux vomica 30c with me and I administered 3 pellets under his tongue. Within 15 minutes his extreme discomfort vanished and he was completely cured! No more suffering, no doctors, no antibiotics. I have witnessed a homeopathic miracle!
‘Nice job.
Does this protocol work when urine is cloudy and slightly frothy?
This protocol is specific for UTI’s. If that’s what is included in the list of symptoms with a UTI, then it sounds like a fit.
Thank you. as I understood there are lines of protocols for a specific condition. After how long one can conclude that the given protocol is not fit (for ex, in this case of UTI)?
Hi Joette, long story short. I took Cantharis 200 on Thursday (thanksgiving day) for 4 days for uti switching to 30 for a couple days after symptoms had gone. By Thursday the following week, it came back. I went back to 200 again (3x daily) and now today, the Tuesday after, I feel like it’s still not completely gone. I’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do next. Can you please help? Thanks for your time.
I don’t take cases here on this forum but the post has the protocols pretty clearly laid out. Re-read and you may find what you’re looking for.
I’m finding a hard time finding medorrhimum . The link you have attached says 23 $ shipping from Canada and I cannot find it any where at my typical spots in California . Any other sources you recommend checking online?
Thanks
You may try Helios in England.
I found it here https://ohmpharma.com
I found Medorrhinum at Amazon
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I am so appreciative, Joette, that you make the Herculean effort to blog, podcast, etc. in an effort to educate. I had a dramatic reminder of the power of these little pills and your educative efforts! I awoke Sunday morning with malaise and felt I couldn’t get to church. My husband went on. Not too much later I was laid flat out with excrutiating pain halfway up my back. I had determined it was a UTI, but I have never had this level of pain. Immediately I knew it had made its way up to my kidneys. I felt a bit of panic that I was going to have to take myself to the ER and I KNEW what they would do to me there!!! I read and read and sent a cry of help to my husband to stop for the above-mentioned remedies — any and all that he could find.
He walked in the door and I was like a mummy on the couch. Popped a Cantharsis and set a 15-min timer. Then took another. Upon the second dose I could literally feel the pain in my back decrease like a thermometer going down. It was incredible!!! My husband noted about an hour later that I must be feeling better because I started chatting and had changed positions on the couch. I continued with the Cantharsis for several days until the feeling of urgency was completely eradicated.
I can’t say enough times, THANK YOU, for this education!!!!
This exact situation happened to me in February of last year, before I learned about homeopathic alternatives. The heavy dose of antibiotics did clear it up but I have been wary ever since. Thank you for sharing this story! It’s identical to my experience and now I will know what to try if it ever happens again!
I learned that often UTI’s do not show up if one is taking Vitamin C. After 3 visits to the doctor forwhat Iknew was a UTI and 3x being told: there is No Sign of a UTI, I looked at what I was taking. Tons of Vitmin C because it almost made the symptoms disappear. I decided to stop the vitamin C for 10days a then get checked. It was positive for a UTI. 2nd.) If you care for cats and they have eye infections and diarrhea and you have UTI symptoms and maybe eye issues too and body aches and then consider Leptospirosis. A bacterial spirochete that may not show up on tests when normal checked for a UTI and a specific not well known antibiotic is needed to cure it. Maybe these are more common that we think since who is checking. We can’t find what we are not looking for. Culture and Sensitivity tests are not done with natural products like colloidal silver or golden seal or Nettle tea. Would a good bladder wash with antiiviral substances help? Has anyone considered it?
1st line Banerji Protocol for UTI…
Medorrhinium 200c 2x/day…where do I purchase 200c in US without being a homeopath/student? I can only locate 200c via abchomeopathy which ships from Canada (2-4 weeks). Would taking Medorrhinium 30c 3-4xs/day be as effective as 200c? I can purchase 30c locally.
Have used Medorrhinium 200c & Cantharis 30c for 6-8 weeks successfully for ecoli UTI in Sept. & have another ecoli UTI in December. Would you recommend repeating same 1st line Banerji protocol or switching to 2nd line Banerji protocol of Thuja 30c 2xs/day instead? Or use both together?
Thank you in advance for any/all assistance
Try elixirs.com, a homeopathic pharmacy in WA state. I got some there.
Hi Joette,
Can you offer any advice on reoccurring sinus infections? Does one just treat them acutely as they arise or is there a protocol to uproot the chronicity?
Thank you!
Would these protocols be suitable for a UTI caused by Group B Strep and be safe for early pregnancy? My midwife called to say I have a uti and I need to start antibiotics, but I don’t feel any symptoms.
This protocol is specific for UTIs without regard for the type of microorganism.
Although most will tell you that homeopathy is perfectly safe, I’m more conservative and instead say it’s relatively safe. This means that if the medicine is used properly and for the correct condition, we don’t witness side effects, etc.
I urge you to spend a good deal of time here on this blog so that you can learn enough to feel confident. Additionally, should you be interested, my online study groups, Gateway to Homeopathy will give you access to not only in-depth information but comradery with others who are similar to you as well as those who are ahead in experience.
What would you do for a child (4) who keeps getting recurring UTI’s. SHes had a normale US so there is nothing structurally wrong
thanks for allowing me to vent my spleen. I have not had a complete physical exam (except one for surgery) in20 yrs. Drs. don’t do those anymore! If one’s personal physician isn’t allowed but a 15 minute visit per pt., how can anyone expect anything positive of office visits?? I can do my vitals at home. and I can treat my problems with natural products which I know will help.I’m determined!! Mena S.
This is a very interesting info. I think I just might have chronic UTI’s but my doctor never realized it, and never did anything to help me either… strange… I keep going to my MD because I have almost constant urinary frequency, and either low back pain or low abdominal pain and fatigue with sweats on and off,(no fever), but all tests and urine analyses come back negative. these symptoms are sometimes worse and at other times better, but its never gone completely. I will try the Medorrhinum 200 and cantharis 30 twice daily. Thanks for the interesting info.
Hi Joette,
Hypothetical question:
If a very elderly person (95 or older) had a UTI which was caused by e.coli, and they did not want to be put on a black-box drug (ie, Cipro) — would homeopathic remedies mentioned in your article be sufficient to eliminate the e.coli infection? I ask because I know that a UTI which may not be such a big deal for a younger person, can be VERY serious for an elderly one. Many seniors have psychological side effects from UTIs (ie, delirium, hallucinations, etc) and a UTI can lead to SEPSIS (I just read your article on sepsis — great info). I know the dangers of Cipro. Amazing how the F*A cares not about that drug. What good is a warning IF allopathic doctors keep prescribing it!
Is homeopathy able to completely cure a UTI in the elderly, in your opinion?
Thank you.
When my mother was in her 90’s and would get a UTI, I’d treat use homeopathy only and it acted fully e. time, including the accompanying anxiety.
For how long should you take the Medorrhinum 200c and Pyrogenium 200c for a chronic UTI please?
We use medicines for as long as they’re needed.
Thank you for your prompt response. I am relatively new to homeopathy. I have only been taking the Medorrhinum & Pyrogenium combination for a couple of days, and already feel so much better than I have done in such a long time. I have been prescribed antibiotics regularly for years for UTI’s, and they have always returned. I send my heartfelt thanks to you for helping us to feel healthy and well without taking unnecessary antibiotics, and I pray these remedies will finally end my years of pain and suffering with UTI’s. Thank you once again for all of your help.
Every UTI that I get turns into a kidney infection. The most recent round of antibiotics I was on for this, I feel as if it did not get rid of the infection. My kidneys still hurt. Is there a remedy specific for kidney infection? Thank you!
I have purchased the alternative to antibiotic course and have been taking cantharsis and medorrhinum which has helped with burning with urination.
Joette I have a prolapsed uterus I was hit from behind from a car I started having pain in the back so I went to the ER to get checked out they gave me a shot in the hip big mistake I think then I started having what feels like a uti I’ve taken cantharis 200 I started feeling better then I slowed down on it as soon as I did that it started all over again so picked up again every 4 hrs it just isn’t helping anymore so I tried berberis 30 which has worked for me before and the same started getting better the reverse again I’m wondering if the prolapsed uterus is worse now and that’s why it’s burning and constantly feeling of urgency because when I peed before the accident I would have to push up everything before I peed because it would feel like a uti while going now it’s on going what am I doing wrong??
Barbara. I can’t take your case on this platform.
Barabara, I reread what I wrote to you and it came off as curt. I opologize for that. What I should have said was that if a 1st protocol doesnt act for a condition, we go on to another that’s closely related. Its likely that another medicine specific to UTI’s may be in the running. IF those don’t act then we know that a prolapse most certainly needs attending to, particularly when/if its severe. THere are homeopathic medicines that are used to treat this condition. If you have a repertory, check it out there in the Female Section. If you have my on-line course titled Feminopathy, check it out there. I cover prolapses and UTI’s in that course.
Not at all I appreciate all you do I figured out what was going on or I think I was taking cantharis 200 I was taking nub vomica at nite for sleep I believe that it was canceling out the cantharis once I stopped nux vomica I started feeling better no burning at the end a little less urgency a little burn in the beginning but not bad so I’m on the road of recovery for now yeah!!! Thank God for your website!!!
I’m happy to hear.
Good day! Can remedies such as suggested reach “embedded” bacteria in the wall of the bladder causing UTI? Thank you!
Homeopathy has the ability to reach where synthetic drugs of commerace only hope to observe from a distance.
