We formed a circle on the kindergarten floor awaiting our teacher's attention. Miss Miller's “show and tells” were the best. She explained that we were to learn about a special liquid metal called mercury. The small silver balls were passed around for us to play with on the linoleum floor. At five years old everything is magical.
The innocence of the 1950's still plagues us. Today, hard science warns us of the dangers of mercury. Presently, given our contemporary climate, if a teacher were to expose children to mercury, she might be subject to the wrath of parents and school board and sited by the DEC. Hardly magical any more.
What of those of us who had been exposed to mercury half a century ago? And those who have suffered its mishchief on a day to day basis via dental amalgams? Consider a medical method that has a world wide reputation with a proven record: homeopathy. Homeopathy has dealt with mercury poisoning and the likes for the last 200 years.
Homeopathy is an intelligent form of medicine that treats the person as an individual. Unlike modern medicine that treats symptoms, homeopathy focuses on the individual and how he is physically and mentally experiencing the illness. This is expressed through the body's innate intelligence via symptoms. Homeopaths don't want to erase symptoms. Instead the goal is to use these symptoms to determine which homeopathic remedy best suits the individual. Once the symptoms are carefully noted, the homeopath looks for a match to a homeopathic remedy that has been shown to address the sufferings. This will uproot the illness.
Although many confuse homeopathy with the term holistic, it is a specific medical discipline that was widely used in the US until half a century ago. It never lost favor in lieu of drugs in England, India, France and Germany where over 40% of the doctors are homeopaths. It is indeed a medical discipline in a unique category. Homeopathy uses minute amounts of plant, animal and minerals that, when properly utilized, stimulate the person's ability to bring itself to its best economy. This means homeopathy believes that we have the ability to resolve health issues when given the correct stimulus.
Once homeopathy has been employed and the suffering diminished, a blood test to determine the amount of mercury remaining will confirm the changes. This often takes months, but the reward for waiting is worthwhile.
Each person with mercury poisoning will present in his own way. One, for example, will have ataxia (a type of paralysis), another may have excessive perspiration, a swollen tongue and profuse saliva, while another may have memory loss and foggy thinking. Choosing the correct remedy is best left to a homeopath with solid credentials and experience. However, for the sake of interest, let us examine the possibilities.
The most common remedy that has historically addressed poisoning, even low levels, is Natrum muriaticum6x, (Nat mur). The picture that Nat mur 6x covers is one of oversensitivity. For someone who suffers from being around perfumes, cigarette smoke and chemicals, particularly if mercury is associated with their illness, Nat mur should be strongly considered. It may take time and patience, but Nat mur 6x can address the associated issues. This is one of the few remedies that could be recommended for most people who have been exposed to mercury with reasonable accuracy. It could be taken daily for weeks.
If the pathology is paralysis, one of the most valuable remedies is Hepar sulph. Given in proper dosage and timing, it can be most beneficial for those who also are hyper-sensitive. This can include sensitivity to weather changes, sensitivity to pain and to the odors of chemicals as well as to food and even animals. The need for Hepar sulph may also present with painful and swollen lymph glands. Once it is determined thatHepar sulph is the best match, it is usually taken monthly for a specific amount of time depending on the needs of the sufferer.
Metal poisoning can also cause psychological pathology. Nitricum acidum is a powerful remedy that aids someone who has had a disturbance of the central nervous system as a result of mercury poisoning. Its need is determined by behavior associated with strong and persistent fears of death. It is also considered for someone who worries immensely about their health, often expressed in panic attacks. Nitricum acidum is a mainstay of homeopathic literature that is timeless and enduring. Homeopathic Sulphur should be considered if the issue after mercury poisoning is associated with heat. For example, the person may experience heat in an uncomfortable way. He may find that perspiration is excessive and that his odors are of an offensive or metallic nature. This is a remedy that has been shown clinically to provide immeasurable relief for children who have had reactions to vaccines laced with mercury. It can be of value even years after the time of the inoculation.
Consider the case of Robert. On Thursday, this healthy newborn, at six weeks old, was inoculated with polio. By Saturday he was too weak and limp to nurse and presented with a temperature of 105 degrees. His parents linked the reaction to the vaccine since nothing else in his short life could be associated. After three days of suffering, Robert was given two doses of Sulphur 200c. The fever and listlessness were aborted within hours and Robert resumed nursing happily with no residual illness. What is most remarkable, is that there were no side effects. Homeopathy has a sterling reputation for results such as this. Each of the above remedies is only a small sample of the choices to reinstate health in someone suffering from the ill effects of mercury. Even mercury is not to be feared in light of homeopathy's reputation. Nonetheless, if our guileless Miss Miller had known about the dangers of this metal, she might have sought elsewhere for a source of magic to dazzle us.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Do these remedies work for all toxic metal poisoning or just mercury. By other toxic metals I am referring to lead, cadmium and antimony, aluminum, cadmium and arsenic
Thanks for your help.
Eileen
Each of the remedies I site have different applications; some specifically for mercury, others that cross over to many or even all toxins. For example, Sulphur is useful when the symptoms fit for a host of responses due to nearly any toxin, but the symptoms MUST fit. On the other hand, Nat mur 6x can be used for any response, any symptom.
do remedies work if a person has had all their mercury fillings removed & want to detox it out of the body? thank you, carol
I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if homeopathy has the ability to detoxify? If so, the answer is a resound YES! It is the way I’ve done it myself and taught thousands over the last 2 decades.
I had fever a lot as a child and often somehow broke the thermometer. I remember sitting in the floor, even when older, and playing with the little mercury balls. I was fascinated at how they moved around. This may explain a lot of my issues! If only we had known . . .
What potency of Nitricum would you use, and for how long? Thank you, Donna
I don’t have a specific protocol, but as long as I had full confidence that the diagnosis is 100% correct, I might use it in a 30th potency every 3 Days. The reason I emphasize that there must be certainty, is that far too many people make the assumption that they have mercury or other heavy metal poisoning only to learn later that it wasn’t the cause of their problems after all. In other words, we don’t use homeopathy like we would a supplement or vitamin and approach it casually.
Hi Joette, after the three days would you resume again? If so how many day in between doses?
You’re referring to a rather in-depth article. Resume what for what condition?
What about Aurum Met for mercury toxicity? I have read some things online about this, though the actual homeopathic books don’t specify Aurum as being used for mercury toxicity
There are many homeopathics that are used for mercury toxicity. Aurum is certainly one of them.
Do you muscle test?
No.
I have mercury toxicity from amalgam fillings (that have been removed years ago), I know this from a recent hair test. So the diagnosis is certain and symptoms like emf sensitivity fit as well. The traditional chelation protocols are difficult to do, you would have to take chelating agents every 3 hours plus many antioxidants etc. Do you think homeopathy would be alternative for this? Has it ever been tested if homeopathy can effectively remove mercury by taking urine or hair test before and after taking homeopathics for some time? Thanks.
I have had clients and students report that their numbers have reduced after homeopathy.
I’ve been exposed to mercury due to a broken light bulb. I have been extra sensitive to chemicals already and find myself still suffering symptoms while others arn’t. My question is is there a remedy that fits edema caused by mercury toxicity?
I’ve been taking Merc. Vivus for a while for it but not 100% effective.
I have removed mercury amalgams and there are many simptoms are not here. Depression, inhability to focus, memory loss, insomnia, comprehension. My doctor does muscle testing and found mercury, chlorine and another and gave me Chelaco from standard process, but is not helping much.
I was reading on dr. pompa’s protocol that unless you detox at a cellular level nothing much will change. What are your thoughts and can I use the Namur for my symptoms?
As we speak I’m putting together a course on the subject of Toxicity for sometime this spring.
I have metal knee and severely sick nothing working as in supplements will homeopathy help with the metal knee still in place.?
Are you describing a knee replacement apparatus?
Hello,
I’m in process of removing 10 amalgam fillings and extracting a dead crowned tooth which had been infected twice and treated with antibiotics. From what I understand, the infection will remain even after antibiotics and suggestion made by dentist to extract tooth. I’m also removing two remaining lower wisdom teeth..
My question is in regards on how to deal with the negative effects I’m having related to mercury poisoning I’m experiencing such as brain fog,l, insomnia, chronic fatigue, no desire to do anything, negative thinking, memory issues, muscle aches, loss of appetite , the list goes on and on, fear and anxiety for no reason, keeping away from others…
Just wondering if anything of the homeopathic medicines you’d recommend would be something that could help while you still have fillings in mouth or should it be taken to detoxify once all amalgam mercury fillings are out of your mouth?
And I’ve also had bad case of nail fungus to both feet and hands which I’m assuming could also be do to mercury poisoning effecting candida and nails?
Given that homeopathy is medicine, it should not be used based on an assumption. It’s just as likely that the cause of the conditions is infection/s. If indeed it is determined that mercury toxicity is found, Mercurius may be of use, however, its best to use the medicines based on what are absolutes. Symptoms are known while etiologies are often difficult to determine.
Choosing medicines specific to the mental state holds more weight than an assumption that it must be mercury poisoning.
Search around this blog using some of the keywords you mention and I’m certain you’ll find an article that encompasses the emotional conditions you describe.
Can a homeopathic metal detox like this be done safely while pregnant?
Homeopathy is not a detox; its gentle medicine that corrects the condition. It’s used during all stages of life, including pregnancy.
Hello,
Yesterday I had all my 12 amalgam fillings removed safely by a Bio Dentist and I’m just wondering if any specific remedy could be used to rid mercury out if body and brain.
I’m not interested in the regular approach regarding detox and looking at homeopathy.
Brain fog, chronic fatigue, concentration and memory issues, stomach issues,, and a general feeling of ill health has been my issues and I’m also feeling with dental infections that I’m being role these teeeth have to be pulled..
I’m considering Mercurius 30 to start but not sure.
And I’m not sure if I should wait longer after this removal or I can jump right in with homeopathy is good idea since I’ve neutralized any more mercury going into my system from teeth (thank God).
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello again,
Im learning that one homeopathic remedy that matches as close as possible would be best.
Yet wondering if a combination of what’s listed could also be an approach that could be used for issues stated above?
Like taking a few of Merc Sol and Nut Amir for instance and then waiting it out etc?
The approach I take is to use more than one medicine at a time if indicated.
Where mercury toxicity has been confirmed as resulting from mercury amalgam fillings, is homeopathy able to assist prior to getting the fillings removed or only after removal of the source?
It may be used prior to removal if the confirmation is based on a diagnosis from a conventional medical doctor.
Thanks so much, Joette
I had a look at Materia Medica by James Tyler Kent across the remedies you’ve suggested here and Nitricum acidum seems to be best indicated across the totality of my symptoms. Plse suggest a particular potency for Nitricum acidum.
That’s the way to do this, Rose. Keep learning!
How does the homeopathics chelate the heavy metals? Has it been clinically verified? or they only reduce the symptoms?
My husband has been using Sulphur to detox from mercury and his skin has intensified in the rash and itching and we’ve tried rhus tox and petroleum to relieve this but he is just so uncomfortable. We figure this is the die off effects but is there anything else we can be pointed to in view of relieving these symptoms? His rash burns and is scaly and over his face, head and upper torso in the main.
Die-off?! I think you’re confusing two different paradigms. This is not naturopathy; it’s homeopathy. When someone is made worse after taking a homeopathic medicine, it should be halted.
Should you be interested in learning how to follow through, and manage a case around specific skin conditions, consider taking my online course titled Skin: the Ugly Truth.
Thank you. That is very helpful and I appreciate it. I didn’t think about it like that!
I have had 7 MRIs with gadolinium contrast. I would like to detoxify the metal out of my system. Would I use something with sulphur?
It’s not quite that simple. Should you be interested in learning how I approach detoxing you might want to consider my online course “Toxic”.
Hi Joette,
What would you give to someone who was thallium poisoned 4-5 years ago and is still greatly suffering?
Many thanks for your wonderful blog! 🙂
Use the symptoms to determine the medicine.
Rethink college. It’s usually not worth it on many levels.
In the early 1970s, the chemistry “teacher” at my junior high school was often easily talked into showing us a2 fascinating behavior of mercury by putting a glob of it in his hand and throwing it as hard as he could at a chalkb1oard on the side of the room so we could get the split-second wow of seeing it flatten out before bursting into a million invisible parts and falling to everything below. Maybe I’m still alive because I sat on the other side of the room? Other kids’ seats were right below that chalkboard. I’ve worried about them for years. And a boy I was school-girl in love with died two years later of what doctors said was stomach cancer. I don’t know if he had a class with that teacher but it’s likely he did. Don’t know what happened to the teacher or the custodians either.
My son age 24 had urine heavy metal testing due to thyroid nodule problem and hair loss. He had chemotherapy as a child 20 years ago, and tested high for mercury and lead. Never had any metal fillings, I feel its from chemotherapy. He has addison disease so leary of chelation. Recommendations please??
Hello Joette! I’m learning so much! In the middle of leading my first Gateway 1 and am about to start another!
Several years ago, my classical homeopath started me on my first constitutional, Nat Mur. We didn’t know then that I had mercury poisoning, but my chemical oversensitivity was debilitating. WOW, day 1 after my first olfactory dose, things happened! I was helping her out, she was a student, and I didn’t really believe, until that day!
Anyways, I’ve moved from more of a oversensitive presentation to the psychological picture and am interested in the potency suggested for Nitricum Acidum. Reading through Boericke’s MM I see a solid picture.
Per your recommendation during a fb live, I bought Boericke’s MM & Rep, and he recommends 6th potency, but I’m new at this, 2x’s a day is my hypothesis. Can you tell me if I”m on the right track with potency and frequency?
Hi Joette, do you have any guidance for (or could steer me to the right post) for remedies to aid in possible mouth reaction to crown material? (I.e burning palate/tongue, sores etc). Mouth/gum symptoms came on after permanent crown (zirconia) was placed and haven’t gone away in 2 months. Thanks!
If you have a repertory, you’d look up under “Mouth; sores” and “Mouth; burning” and “Mouth; tongue burning.” Once it’s pretty obvious what the most prominent remedy might be, it’s most likely used twice daily in a 30th potency until very much better.
If you’re unfamiliar with what I’m referring to, I urge you to join one of our online study groups called Gateway to Homeopathy to get a kick start.
