In one of my most recent blogs, I told the story of a late-night drive to my son’s when he called on me for help.
When the call came, I quickly gathered my red Top 100 Remedy kit, a couple of my homeopathy books, a Ball canning jar of my bone broth and off I went.
After administering a few different remedies from my kit, I finally fell asleep in the chair by his bed.
The reason I could fall asleep was that, after six hours, a few missteps and finally the correct remedy, my son, was enough improved that he, too, fell asleep and the worst of his illness was over.
It should be noted that I was able to try a few different remedies because I had my kit.
There is nothing like having healing at your arm’s length.
It was my kit, my son, and me. (A few prayers too.)
I’ll be honest, homeopathy requires some practice and patience, my friends.
But the ONLY way to develop that skilled hand is by practicing, and you can only practice if you have the right tool — a remedy kit and a course of books from which to refer.
So, to answer the oft-asked question, “Why do I need a remedy kit?” consider these reasons:
1. Having a kit in your house is convenient.
Illness never comes at convenient times, and emergencies, by definition, are unexpected. Having to wait 4-5 days until the needed remedy arrives from the pharmacy will feel like an eternity!
Make your life easier by having a kit safely placed in your linen closet, ready to help your family.
2. Owning a kit is not worth its weight in gold … it’s worth more.
Whether you’re traveling, moving to a new place, or perhaps it’s just the survivalist in you wanting to be ready for anything life throws at you, having a kit empowers you to come to the rescue in the blink of an eye.
Homeopathy is not supplementary or complementary. It is THE medicine to have at your fingertips.
3. Having a kit saves you money.
Purchasing remedies a la carte at a health food store can run around $9 per remedy, (already a super bargain) and to order online with shipping included is easily $16 (still a bargain). However, when you invest (and I don’t use this word loosely) in a 100-remedy kit, the cost is under $3.00 per bottle! (The ultimate bargain.)
4. A homeopathy kit is a lifelong investment.
Those of you who have been reading my blog will remember my remedy kit from 1918 — and the fact that I can still use it!
Homeopathic medicines do not expire when you care for them properly.
A homeopathy kit is an investment that sticks. No more cleaning out your medicine cabinets and finding expired Tylenol — and a list of side effects down the drain! (Watch out for water wildlife!)
Your kit will become a prized possession.
5. Having a kit allows you to bless the lives of others.
Having a kit allows you to help others who aren’t prepared.
Consider the story of my student whose neighbor’s daughter was stung by a bee while at a play date. Her neighbor came knocking, and this mother was able to administer Apis mellifica 30, every few minutes which eased the little girl’s pain and decreased swelling at the site of the sting.
To have a kit and use it to bless the lives of others is charity personified.
A Final Word
Let me explain why you need a kit to handle acute issues. Chronic illness often originates from health problems that were inappropriately treated acute conditions. Inappropriate treatment usually means the use of drugs.
Should you be interested, take a look at my online course and hefty reference book, How to Raise a Drug-Free Family.
Know how to treat those acute (short-term) illnesses such as ear infections, strep throat and injuries and you’ll not subject your children to steroids, antibiotics and analgesics.
Become the ambassador for your family’s health.
Up your pledge to this powerful medicine.

5 Reasons and 5 Homeo-tips
Because I don’t like to leave you without a tip to fast forward the use of your remedies, here’s this week’s tip:
Hepar sulph in 6, 30 or 200 is one of my all-time favorite remedies for soft tissue infections. Here are some examples:
Sore throat? Hepar sulph 30 every 3 hours, until better
Ear infection? Hepar sulph 6, every 3 hours, until better
Conjunctivitis? Hepar sulph 30, every 3-6 hours, until better
Swollen lymph nodes? Hepar sulph 200, twice daily until better
Now stay home and cure your family.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

I have heard that airport security x-rays harm homeopathic remedies. What are your thoughts on this?
My rems have just come through the Dubai security xrays about 3 hours ago. This is the 2nd time they have insisted on this in my travels. I have asked security around the world to spare my medicines, but so far, I’ve not had any problems as a result when Dubai has not agreed.
One of my Naturopathic Doctors taught me to wrap my remedies in aluminum foil to protect them from X-rays. I have done that every time I have traveled and so far I have not noticed any issues.
-Stephanie
I can’t imagine tin foil would protect against x-rays. When you get dental x-rays, the method of protection is a heavy lead bib.
For fun, I looked it up and found the relevant information on a Physics forum:
Technically, nothing “blocks” x-rays. What you have is an attenuation which is an exponential. The advantage of lead is that has a very large attenuation coefficient due to the large number of electrons and dense structure. Aluminum has fewer electrons, and is a much less favorable target for interaction.
Anything will eventually attenuate x-rays. Lead is used because it is more efficient at doing so than most other materials and is readily available, but a thick block of aluminum could be more effective than a thin sheet of lead, depending in the actual numbers.
FYI,
-Stephanie
Thanks for taking the time to look into this.
When traveling, I wrapped my remedy kit in foil. On the return trip, it was flagged as suspicious on the x-ray, and they hand searched the contents of both my carry-on bags.
I use Faraday bags from Mission Darkness online. You can order multiple faraday bag manufacturers online.
Faraday equipment is make to block radio frequency and electro-magnetic charges. It doesn’t block x-rays. If security can see through the cage/pouch, the xrays penetrated it. So, if security didn’t inspect it by hand, they saw what was inside and, thus, there wasn’t any protection.
Hi Joette, I am glad you posted this. It hits right at the heart of a question I have been carrying around, perusing. Why is Hepar sulph 6 used in an infection, especially a dental infection instead of the higher potencies?
And then why use this higher 200 potenciy for a lymph node swelling and not for a sore throat or dental abscess?
I imagine there is a subtlety in 6c or 6x that is appropriate for bone, but how do you explain it?
I understand also that these are jumping off points many times and will be adjusted to the mildness or severity of the presentation, along wtih other factors being considered.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
In the old dental books, they consistently recommend using HS in 6 for abscesses, mainly because it will help an infection absorb, while in higher potencies, it will cause a pushing out or suppuration of the infection. depending on the location, this can either be a good thing or bad. Particularly when an infection presents as an enclosed pocket, and is sitting behind tissue we don’t want it disturbed, it would be prudent to encourage absorption. Lymphnode infections are generally not pockets of infection but rather a swelling of the node. Posology, the study of potencies is fascinating.
Joette,
I am assuming this clarification is specific to Hepar Sulph and not a general guideline for use of 6, 30 or 200 c potency remedies. If that is correct, is there a rough guideline for choosing 6, 30 or 200 c potency remedies?
The additional clarification would be much appreciated.
-Stephanie
Some have tried to offer specific rules of thumb for choosing potencies, but I must say that I rarely found it foolproof and I’ve turned it on its head too many times to adhere to such generalizations. Its probably because there are hundreds, if not thousands of homeopathic remedies and endless human pathology. Then there are the acute conditions vs. chronic. ‘Too complex to set rules to.
And yes, my clarification was specific to HS.
Joette,
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! What is your favorite book for an introduction to Posology?
I won’t be in my office for about 2 weeks. Give me another shout around that time. HAving said this, the way I teach homeopathy now includes not just the remedy choice as per the condition, but the potency as well. You simply match the condition to the remedy. This is all based on the Banerji Protocols and it takes all the guess work out of potency and frequency decisions. SUPER easy! Check out not only this blog fro free information on this, but my on line courses on the Good GUT; Bad Gut, SKIN; The Ugly Truth and A Survivialist Guide to Homeopathy, etc.
Hi Joette, on the store where i bought my HS for my 6 year old daughter’s abcsess , I was told to give her 6c -5 pills 3 times a day… so I did wrong? the infection she has is in a little pimple looking pocket. So I assumed the better to give her 1 every 3 hours?
The more severe the condition the more frequent the dosage. Every 3 hours is not incorrect. If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to join one of our local or remote study groups where you’ll find info like this so that it becomes 2nd nature.
Check out Gateway to Homeopathy on the front page of my site.
Joette, I second that emotion! I’d be lost without my two kits I bought from you, and the homemade kit where I keep my extras. I’m grateful for the knowledge owing to your teaching.
Cheli
That red box of 100 remedies is the best!! We have dealt with everything from fussy babies, bug bites, broken bones, bad backs, ear infections, tooth infections, sleepless nights, burns, even a head injury that required a CAT scan! We spend very little money on the doctor, because we don’t have to. And we haven’t even needed a Tylenol since going homeopathic.
Thank you, Joette, for offering that kit for sale on Mother’s Day (I got mine a couple of years ago) and for all your books which I have printed and bound — and keep for handy reference at all times!
You have literally changed the way my family deals with medical issues, and I am so grateful. You truly are an answer to prayer, as I was seeking a more natural way to treat my family’s health issues. I was interested in homeopathy, but I never could really understand it. Your books and articles have cut through all the confusion and given me practical, useful advice.
God bless you and yours, Joette.
I love my remedy kit. It wasn’t until I had a kit in my hands that my learning soared. By having my kit, I was able to “experiment” with remedies in different situations. Today I’m pretty good at it, and I love how empowered I feel! Thank you Joette. You are such a blessing!!!
I find that once folks own a kit, they make a larger commitment to their learning process and that in turns thrusts their results forward. It’s exciting to pull it all together. Thanks for sharing your experience
It seems that all signs point to me needing to get a remedy kit this week! After illnesses and injuries in my house that I just didn’t have the right remedies on hand for, and to order it and overnight it was a killer on the wallet, then your blog this week… I would say my next investment needs to be a remedy kit. Thank you for this post, and I have you enjoy your trip!
I fly professionally and pass through metal detectors 3 days a week, every week. I do not protect my remedies from metal detectors in any way. They still work fine. I do replace them every two years, and I have my designated “travel remedies” vs. my remedies that do not travel.
I need to look into getting a kit for sure. More and more realizing allopathic medicine is not the answer for me. In the short term, while I start learning can you recommend a starting point remedy to try for Headaches in the back of the head (right side) probably from tension? Thanks
Tension headaches regardless of their locale are often met with Nux vomica, especially if there are other aspects of Nux vomica that are present. Having said this, take a look at my article titled Headaches: What a Pain here on the blog.
I’m confused. The page that is entitled Headaches: What a Pain has 3 sentences in the post, the article source, and then your disclaimer. Is that page displaying correctly? Your blog posts are normally waaay longer than 3 sentences. Or are we supposed to go to the referred article? It just doesn’t look like one of your normal posts.
Try it again. It sounds like there was a glitch in your connection.
Great article and thanks for sharing your tips on Hepar Sulph! I use my kit often and refer to your blog often as well. I feel empowered knowing I can help our family heal naturally. Have a safe trip! Looking forward to hearing about what you learn.
The times I have rushed on holiday and either forgotten or taken a Skelton homeopathic first aid kit I have felt vulnerable.
My homeopathic first aid kit is one of my most treasured items. I don’t worry about x-Rays as Homeopathy is bigger than that!!!
Couldn’t agree more! I have had my kit for over 7 years now! What I love the most is that you are never without help when you have a kit–especially when on vacation–what a relief to know I have it! I call it the best investment I ever made! The book that comes with it is pretty handy as well. Many of the remedies have been bought again and again the the refills are so inexpensive…well worth the investment!
My remedy boxes is right here with me in Calcutta and I keep them with me on the flights. I use it for jet lag, to protect me against the many ills that i’m exposed to here in the clinic, in case we get into bad food. You name it. My family and I are in the ready. Conventional meds seem downright silly comparatively.
Hi Joette! I hope your time in Calcutta is very productive. I will be looking forward to the learnings you share! Is there any difference between the 200C potency and the 200ck potency? If so what is the difference? Safe travels to you!
Thanks for your kind words.
C and Ck are not exactly the same but are pretty interchangeable. The method in which they are made is different and it would take more than what I can commit to here to describe the two methods.
Thank you, thank you for posting this! Your explanation about how the HP potencies work with various infections is a like beam of light on dark road. This is just what I needed to know.
Wishing you a safe, productive and memorable journey in Calcutta! Sending your writing hand the strength and energy needed to take reams of notes to be shared with us all.
Does it matter if its 6x or 6c?
Both are good.
I just received my first 100 Remedies Kit yesterday after delving into the blogs, articles, podcasts etc since the beginning of this year. I hope to get a study group going or dive into one online soon. I have a few questions: In the educational materials, it’s recommended to use only low/moderate potency levels 30c or less unless under the guidance of a licensed practitioner or homeopathic consultant. But in several articles and blogs I read on our site, 200c is offered as a remedy for certain cases. So I am left puzzled… should 200c or higher be used at all if the person is not under the care of a seasoned homeopath? Another question regarding the relative safety and no side effects using remedies. I believe I understand what is meant, but when I read comments from others after the blog/article, some mention other symptoms developing. This creates a fear in me to try something that might produce unwanted symptoms. How do we navigate here? In other words, if I do take a remedy, and I feel it is the right one at first, but maybe it’s actually not, will I experience negative effects? Will it be harmful? Thanks for any clarifications you might offer. I truly appreciate it.
Do you know anything (good/bad) of the Paramesh Banerji Life Sciences company in New Jersey? They manufacture homeopathic remedies … Not sure who can buy from them. I’m having trouble finding Calcarea Phos in 3X which is a piece of a Banerji Protocol. What do you recommend in Banerji protocol cases that list remedies which are not available? I’m reading over information from their book trying to determine how to help my injured spouse with his chronic pain.
We use OHM Pharmacy that my clients and students are able to purchase from. If you join our study group “Gateway to Homeopathy” or any other more in-depth courses, you’ll be able to purchase the Banerji remedies.
I have joined the Gateway so this is great news. Meanwhile, I inquired with ABC homeopathy, and they were offering to get it for me as well, but from Canada. Being new, I was unsure about which companies are reputable, especially out of the US. Thanks, Joette. Looking forward to beginning our study group.
You’re welcome and I hope you enjoy your Gateway group.
I am wondering about Lisa’s question #15. I would love this clarification also.
Boiron, Hyland’s, Washington, Hahnemann, OHM (available to my clients and students) and Helios are the ones that come to mind 1st.
Hi Joette, perfect article for my needs! Thank you. Would lymph node infections be the same as infections once the lymph nodes were removed or disturbed as well? I had a large number removed during breast cancer surgery in my arm pit and now get reoccurring cellulitis in the arm that now has lymphedema, lots of heat, swelling and fever, sickness. Would I look to push that out with a 200c 2x a day or would that be considered a situation to absorb with a lower 6 if its not in a lymph node anymore but might be? How would one know?
I have a Sulphur allergy and I am getting an itchy rash from Hepar Sulph 200. Is there a replacement for Hepar or should I try it at a lower concentration?
There are probably close to 200 hundred medicines that could be considered for an itchy rash. Should you be interested, my online course, “Skin the Ugly Truth” teaches folks how to determine the best medicine, what potency and how to use each for their specific rash.
Go to https://membership.joettecalabrese.com/ and scroll down to the course title.
If you’re not interested in that, you might want to key in my name and the name of the condition in your browser to find information that may be helpful.
Hello,
I am curious if hepar sulphar 200 could also be used for an enlarged lymph node that has been on going longer than 2 months? There have been many illnesses here in there for my 8 month old, but it now just seems like a few neck lymph nodes wont go away. She has an ultrasound in a few weeks and possibly lab work just to be sure it isnt anything of great concern, but I would love to try this if this could be used in the same manner as an acute infection with swollen nodes. Thank you!
Swollen lymph nodes after 3 days.
Swollen lymph nodes after 3 months.
Hepar sulph is a well documented medicine for swollen lymph nodes.
Before you make any decision to use a homeopathic, read up on it in your materia medica. There are free ones on line and I sell mine on this website.
Thank you for imparting all of this knowledge ton us.
Keep building your knowledge, Roni.
It could be life saving in the future.
Great advice!
