Where There’s Fire, There’s Smoke

Smoke Inhalation, Joette Calabrese

We're all concerned by those affected by the devastating fires in California. There are so many who have lost their homes, and even worse, lost their loved ones.

Fires of this magnitude are detrimental not only to the immediate burn area but, of course to the surrounding communities suffocating under clouds of smoke and ash.

When experiencing breathing difficulties due to external causes (such as particulates in the air), we should first think of Arnica 30.

Coughing, especially a gagging cough (as one resulting from having inhaled too much smoke or air of poor quality), calls for Ipecac 30 (Ipecacuanha).

Arnica 30 and Ipecac 30 can be alternated within minutes of each other, as necessary until normal breathing is restored.

This combination may be needed for extended periods of time.

Additionally,  Euphrasia 30 is a capital choice when the eyes stream and burn, while Carbo veg 30 is indicated for when it feels as though there just isn’t enough oxygen getting into the lungs.

Can all of the above be used by one person? Yes, as long as the conditions present, all may be used separated by a few minutes or so.

I hope this will offer hope to some.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

    Dear Lily,

I have found out that there are little babies, newborns, one month olds. that are having severe respiratory distress in the hazardous air in Butte County where the fire is/. There are more than 600 souls noted as missing and there have by this morning been 63 human remains found. Most all of them are so burned that there is not much left. We need prayer for the long run this is going to be. They are hoping that FEMA trailers can house people, as there are tens of thousands made homeless by this but the chaos is still not settling down what with the huge numbers of displaced people. They cannot even go up into the destroyed towns–there are still a rare few homes not destroyed–because of the disruption it would cause in the search for the dead. Mothers of new babies don’t know what to do. God you are the God of mercy and peace and pity and comfort. We trust you to help and heal.

Thank you for the article. Would these recommendations of yours carry over to volcano-related breathing issues? Cheers.

      Yes.

  7. Dear Joette,
Many thanks for your article on the smoke situation here in the Bay Area. It is an absolutely overwhelming time of loss. I call it The Smoke of Loss. We have been smothered with this smoke for 10 days. Today being the first day in a long time that we can see the sun. Smoke is still here but not so thick today. We have found Ignatia to be a very effective remedy for the effects of the smoke. It is relieving the headaches, vertigo, plugged up sensations in the bronchial tubes. And the deep emotions from the tremendous loss.
    Blessings to you.

Thanks Joette, this is a blessing. You were on my list tonight to search for remedies to suggest to my daughter who is engulfed by the smoke these past days. So sad for all the loss and the lack of our precious quality air to breathe. But gratitude for homeopathy and you!!

  9. Jessica says:

Thank you! I have been searching for remedies for my family’s various symptoms and you covered them all.

  10. Linda Prout says:

Some appear to be suffering from skin reactions due to chemical exposuire, perhaps chemicals used on flames, but maybe whatever is burning. Any thoughts for super sensitive, burning, red, flaking skin following smoke/chemical exposure?

  11. Sue Holmes says:

Thanks, Joette. Am forwarding this blog to our nephew who is not near the fires, but is having trouble breathing from all the smoke.

  12. Deepak says:

    Dear joette

    Thanks for this wonderful service.

  13. Claudia Chapman says:

Thank you Joette and staff. We lost our home along with our two daughters. My file of your articles is of course lost as well. We got out with nothing but our purses. I’m not ready yet, but our daughter and I would like to recapture your articles. Perhaps our friend Shannon G. can help, as her home in Magalia May have survived, but if not, would you be willing to help?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m very sorry for your loss and that of your family and friends.

I’m not sure what you’re asking.

  14. Leanne says:

Is eurphrasia 30 indicated for eyes that burn but aren’t streaming?
I am not sure what an extended period of Time means? Does it mean every four minutes even if the burning doesn’t go away for a day or two or more? Does it mean it goes away and comes back in the same day to resume it every four minutes? Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s always best before using a homeopathic to understand its scope of action. I urge you to read your Materia medica on that particular one. IF you don’t own one, go online and read the passage on that remedy from one of the free texts.
Just like when you take any medicine such as aspirin: You take it as needed for as long as it’s needed. When the condition is clear you stop. If it returns you resume.

  15. Marie says:

Once again California is being effected by terrible fires. I was so excited to find this article but have an additional question. I have developed a terrible sore and swollen throat and I believe it to be a symptom of breathing so much smoke. Is there an additional remedy that would address the sore throat? Thank you for providing so many resources!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Into your browser insert the words “Sore throat Joette Calabrese”.

  16. Wanda Kaluzny says:

I have a sinus infection from breathing in particles. Sanguinaria 200/Belladonna 6 have not helped. Is there anything else I can use? Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I always offer the most sweeping protocol that helps the largest number of people and that’s usually Sang/Bell.

  17. Cait says:

What would be used for a burning nose from breathing in too much smoke? Would this also be arnica or euphrasia? Thanks!
