This week’s entry into the Emergency Remedy Series is Aconitum napellus or Aconite as we call it for short.
Uh-oh. I can see your quizzical gaze from here. (Don’t forget, first and foremost, I’m a mom. I have eyes in the back of my head!)
I know, you’re thinking, “Poor Joette! She must be so busy she doesn’t remember Aconite was the very first remedy she discussed in her Emergency Remedy Series.”
Well, don’t you worry. I most assuredly do remember talking to you about Aconite, but we only discussed one aspect of it. The beauty of this remedy — besides how quickly, efficiently and politely it works — is how versatile it is!
That’s why Aconitum was (and is) my number one emergency remedy … the one I always have in my purse.
Aconitum napellus is a brilliant choice for eye injuries. It not only addresses the shock of an eye injury (which, let’s face it, is always more shocking than most injuries because our eyes are so precious and irreplaceable to us), but it also attends to the injury itself.
You may have heard me say this before, but Aconite is the Arnica of the eye.
One of my team members was clipping hedges in her yard. Ferociously clipping, apparently. She admits she was moving too fast, leaned over to snip a low-hanging sprig, and poked herself in the eye with another branch she had overlooked.
She had her glasses on, which partially deflected the incoming stick, or it could have been catastrophic.
Even with the deflection, the stick penetrated the white of her eye, and a tiny hole was visible at the point where it had made entry.
Her wound was no joke.
I did have to laugh, though — just a bit — when she told me that her glasses flew directly into the jaws of her hedge clipper before she could stop her manic motion. Her glasses were “clipped” as well as the hedge. Yep.
Those were her glasses in the photograph above … may they rest in peace.
Her eye? Luckily, her vision was not affected, so she felt comfortable that the emergency room was not required. Her eye would heal — and probably heal more quickly than her ego.
Customarily, Aconite 200 is taken immediately after the injury and used as needed every few hours until very much better. For wounds to the eye such as hers, homeopathy provides comfort that she was doing all she could to promote her body’s natural healing.
(I should add: If the pain had been extraordinary, Hypericum 200 or even Hypericum 1M might have been added as well.)
Injuries to the eyes occur more frequently than we imagine, and, in general, they happen quickly, as in my staff member’s case. For this reason, Aconitum napellus should be in your purse, in your pocket, in your medicine cabinet, and in your first aid kit at home, at work and in your car. When needed, the eyes will have it!
(And a good optometrist can fix the glasses.)
Pass on the good news of homeopathy — especially in cases requiring first aid!
Warmly,
P.S. There are so many homeopathic remedies to remember for emergencies. When you’re in a panic, wouldn’t it be easier to have a handy reference guide to refer to rather than depending on your memory? I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Hi Joette,
Would Aconite help dissipate a blood clot in the eye from a Retina vein occlusion? Is there a remedy that can be taken to prevent it from happening again? Thank you.
Pat
Aconitum is not the medicine I think of for blood clots. These kinds of extreme situations are covered in my course, Survivalist Guide to Homeopathy.
Is there a homeopathic remedy for macular degeneration — I was just diagnosed with wet MD.
My husband (2 years ago, aged 67) suddenly developed what the eye specialist termed, Adies Tonic Pupil – in his left eye, where the pupil remains dilated, causing him headaches and of course sensitivity to light. We were told there is no remedy, but his eyesight is worsening. Wondering if there was any homeopathic remedy he could try? Many thanks.
Hi Joette, I was wondering if this would be helpful with chalazions on the lids of the eyes? I seem to be getting reoccurring ones often.
Thank you,
Stacey Rae
Chalazions are actually a skin condition that happens to be near the eyes. This medicine will not correct them.
Hi Joette, would this remedy be helpful for eye floaters? I have searched your site but can’t find any other suggestions. Thanks Susan
It’s not specific for eye floaters, however, if there are other eye or sight conditions, its use may be justified.
Hello. Will Aconite help with pepper spray in the eye?
I don’t believe so. The symptoms are what will determine the remedy choice; such as burning.
Hi Joette!
I have always wondered, is there any remedy that is good for something in the eye (not stuck inside the eye, such as the need for silica), but like hair that you can’t see, or lint that is being stubborn about coming out.
Thanks for your insight 🙂
Hi Shaylynn, An eyewash of diluted Euphrasia MT would be my 1st choice.
That is a good idea! Is there anything that you would mix it with to make the eyewash (which I assume would be water?) not burn the eye?
I will get some to have on hand. Thanks!
What about Ledum for injuries due to a puncture? Ledum works great for black eyes as well
Yes.
Thank you Joette! I did exactly that today. Branch poked eye while gardening. Side of the eyeball where glasses did not protect of course. Took euprhasia, then aconite (after search on FB group) and now hypericum with this blog. Thank you so much!
Thank you Joette!!! Woke up with pain, tears and could not open eye. One dose hypericum, then aconite. Literally within 5 minutes, I can open my eye and the tear stopped! Tears come back and I readminister as needed. I cannot thank you enough Joette for sharing all this precious knowledge. Blessings and radiance 🙂
You’re very welcome.
Pls send your friends to the blog so they can be helped by it too.
My eyesight has improved of late and as I was reading this post, I realized that I have been taking Rhus Tox 30/ Acon Nap 200 for the past 6 months for high blood pressure. It hasn’t lowered my blood pressure, but I have noticed my eye sight is better. Could that be a connection there?
We often see this in homeopathy. The medicines have far reaching ability.
Oh my gosh! I just stumbled upon this. I have a similar story…
Before I was married, my girlfriend and I decided to raise chickens, as pets, not for meat. We used the eggs but otherwise they were very tame, spoiled chickens. And they all had distinct personalities. Well, this one evening at dusk, I was holding one, “Bobbie” who was a troublemaker. She was perched on my right arm. My vision was severely decreased in my right eye and never saw the chicken intently watching me. It pecked me smack dab in the eye! We figured out that it thought my eyelashes were a bug and tried to “get it”! When I went to the ophthalmologist, he laughed at the story (despite my severe pain!) and said he literally could see the perfect outline of the tip of the chicken’s beak!!! I can laugh about it now, but since I didn’t know about homeopathy back then, I had to be put on antibiotics. : ( UGH…the memory of it makes me cringe!
Hi Joette, I’ve experienced “uveitis” in the past which cleared up with antibiotic drops. I am now experiencing similar symptoms as in the past: photophobia, eye soreness/tenderness, all of which belladonna 30c has calmed down when it comes on. But I’m wondering if something like Hepar sulph (or aconite?) would further treat the underlying inflammation so it keeps from flaring? Thanks!
One of the problems that many folks succumb to is the idea that there’s something better out there. If a medicine acts, we don’t tinker with success.
It’s when the medicine DOESN’T act that we move on.
