Joette Calabrese - Emergency Homeopathics

What is one of the scariest words you can hear after an injury or surgery?

Sepsis.

But that fear can disappear if you’re acquainted with the next medicine in my Emergency Remedy Series: Pyrogenium.

It works! I’ve used it myself; it is amazing. (I mean, all homeopathic medicines work when they’re used properly, but this one is just … at the risk of being repetitive … amazing.)

Whether sepsis of the skin, in the blood (septicemia) or even in or around the bone (osteomyelitis), an infection accompanied by a high fever that is not responding to other homeopathics or antibiotics is a call for Pyrogenium.

It’s generally used in a 200C, but a 30C would also work.

It’s especially useful after surgery if the surgical wound develops into sepsis.

Pyrogenium is magnificent for those in the military and, believe it or not, the military used to know about this! In fact, many of the medical doctors serving as medics during the Civil War were homeopaths, administering Pyrogenium (as well as other homeopathic remedies) to fallen young men on the battlefield.

Consider including it in a care package for your deployed loved ones.

Bone infections, suffered both in war and on the home front, all too often result in limbs lost to the orthopedic surgeon’s saw after prolonged antibiotic treatment fails. Pyrogenium, however, is one of the primary homeopathic medicines we think of for such infections — not the only one, but an important one.

Homeopathics do not depend on a rich blood supply for delivery, so they are well-suited for bone-based infections.

Pyrogenium is also a premier remedy for puerperal fever (infection arising after childbirth). Maternal sepsis still occurs in the developed world, but luckily is no longer occurring at the alarming epidemic rates of the early 1800s.

Let me switch gears for a moment because this is fascinating:

In the old days in a hospital setting, doctors would deliver babies moving from woman to woman to woman without washing their hands — even immediately after having worked on cadavers! It was for this reason that hospitals (especially teaching hospitals) carried dramatically higher mortality rates among new mothers.

What’s obvious to us now was not apparent then: without benefit of even the most rudimentary hand washing, the doctors would carry bacterial infection from corpse to patient to patient!

Midwives who birthed babies at home, on the other hand, knew better. The diminished mortality rates in their hands reflected it!

Because they assisted with only one birth at a time, one home at a time, they curtailed the spread of infection.

After studying the pronounced difference in mortality rates between doctors and midwives in Vienna, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis suggested doctors wash their hands between patients.

Can you believe the nerve of this radical upstart?!

Because at the time there was little scientific belief in microorganisms, the doctors poo-pooed his suggestions and ridiculed him right out of the medical community and into an insane asylum (where he quickly died, ironically enough, of septicemia).

It wasn’t until Dr. Louis Pasteur and Dr. Joseph Lister (think: Listerine) proved there was a scientific basis for hand washing, that these infections began to diminish.

Can you imagine? Something so incredibly simple to us was once considered ridiculous by the “learned” scientific minds of the day!

Sometimes the currently accepted opinions of the mainstream medical community can be short-sighted.

But I digress …

This week’s Emergency Remedy, Pyrogenium, should always be on-hand in any well-stocked first aid kit. We need confidence and peace of mind, especially in this age of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

We can protect our loved ones from scary infections and sepsis when armed with education and a little tube of Pyrogenium.

Pass on the good news of homeopathy!

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

P.S. Let me remind you that Mother’s Day is coming up in a week. (As if you’ve forgotten.) Speaking of being “armed with education,” my courses make for a unique — as well as beneficial — gift. Moms, perhaps print out the order form from a specific course you’ve been eyeing and leave it where your kids (or husband) can easily find it. There’s nothing wrong with a little well-placed hint now and then!

Dads, take a look at my course page, “Where Do I Go From Here?”  It will guide you in picking the best course; the one most relevant to your family. Or, if you’re nervous about choosing, print out the page and wrap it up with a bow — an IOU of sorts. Allow Mom to make her own choice on Mother’s Day! Won’t that be fun for her? The gift of homeopathic education will be a treat for Mom and a huge health benefit for your whole family.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

  1. Cynthia says:

I know first hand how well this remedy works. I had a pelvic abscess after my 5th child.
I had a homeopath in Pittsburg who mailed me pyrogenium. I used it for a month along with antibiotics.
I was scheduled for a hysterectomy, and was told abscesses are chronic. On surgery day, a repeat ultrasound was done and low and behold, the giant 8 centimeter abscess was no where to be found! I healed and went on to have one more baby 3 years later with no issues. Another homeopathic miracle!

  2. Rachel says:

Thank you for another wonderful post Mrs. Calabrese. I love your writing style… it always inspires, teaches and entertains, all at once.

May I ask, did I understand correctly that Pyrogenium is sort of a 2nd line medicine for infection with fever? Are we generally to try other remedies first and resort to Pyrogenium only after they have failed to act?

    Blessings & Gratitude!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Pyrogenium is used when there is sepsis or the evident threat of such. Other medicines would be indicated prior to its use if the threat was not as looming.

  3. Judy says:

Thank you Joette. I only wish I had this information years ago when my mother was still alive. She developed aspiration pneumonia in a nursing home after a hip fracture, which resulted in sepsis and a shutdown of many of her vital systems. I am wondering if this protocol would work in a similar situation, where someone develops sepsis from pneumonia. God bless!

  4. Marie says:

Does this also work with septic burstits? My husband’s elbow burasa infected after several pretty hard knocks and a scratch on the skin. I’m currently using the protocol for bursitis (symphytum 200 and rhus to 30), but the infection is what I’m most concerned about.

    1. Marie says:

      Correction: rhus tox 30

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t tell you whether this will do the trick for your husband, but Pyrogenium has been used for septic bursa as per my notes and materia medicas.

      1. Marie says:

        Thank you!

  5. Suzie homemaker says:

If they had read their Bibles they would have washed their hands. Look at the 9ld testimony and xont ever say we d9nt need any of that just the knew. GOD TALKS ALOT about clean bodies on the outside. Another rant 9f med s sence not hearing God.blood letting. Blood is life. What ever got them to think blood letting g good. Still today 5hey dont read there Bibles and understand 8t if 5hey both with reading it. Just read every scripture on health, healing. Doesnt line up with med s sence. Ok I’m done for now. I LOVE HOMEOPATHY. IT HEALS!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Nice contribution, Suzie!

  6. Shaylynne says:

Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information! Would you mind giving an example of how often you would use this remedy for someone that has an infection in their bones, the blood, and also how often someone should use it for sepsis after surgery? Thanks kindly, Shaylynne

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you read the remedy card you’ll find frequencies. As for other considerations such as osteomyelitis, the method may include Pyrogenium for soft tissue around the bone, but the bone infection needs a different homeopathic understanding. Should you be interested, I teach that as well as other more dire infections in my course titled “Alternative to Antibiotics” that is available here on my site.

  7. Dana Eldridge says:

My brother is currently battling sepsis and has been for a few months. You had mentioned that Pyrogenium 200C would be the potency. How often should it be administered? I assume it would be taken until very much better.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I include potencies and frequencies in all of my blog posts. Check the remedy card. And as usual, in most cases, homeopathic medicines are administered until the coast is clear or until very much better.

      1. Toni says:

searching your site for quite a while and can find nothing about remedy cards. not anywhere.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

They accompany every blog post at the end.

  8. Frank Coorey says:

Mrs Calabrese, I was diagnosed with Sepsis on March 16th of this year. I was In the hospital for 5 days. I Had a cyst on my back that was molested by a Dr and in the process burst and seeped into my system. In the hospital another Dr finally lanced the cyst. Two strands of bacteria were eventually found. It affected my nervous system so bad that my forearms went numb. My left thumb is completely numb which doesn’t allow me to grasp and hold onto things. I had to have surgery on my neck to fuse the C5-6, C6-7 along with a colposcopy to release the pressure from the spine. I am no longer on medication of any type at all. Cannot use ensaids anymore because of damage to my kidneys from trying to mask pain (from a previous injury) for the past two years. So Tylenol is about it for me! The lingering effects of the Sepsis makes me tired all the time and without much energy. Your thoughts please, because I just cant Live my life out like this!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m so sorry that you’ve suffered as you have.
Should you be interested in working with me one on one, feel free to contact my office. Meanwhile, as an aside, you’re more likely to feel better without drugs than with them.
The symptoms of diseases are generally kinder than the side effects of drugs.

  9. Lisa says:

How often would the remedy need to administered in a septic situation?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Have you read the remedy card?

      1. Sara says:

My niece has sepsis and its being treated currently with antibiotics in the hospital. Should she still give this remedy or the time for that has passed already?

  10. Sheena says:

Pyrogenium may have saved the life of my friend’s cow after some birth complications.

  11. Joette – I’m new here, but I can tell I will be around for a VERY long time! Thanks for the great information and the fun presentation style (I’m a Civil War re-enactor, so of course I found a good laugh on this one).

I have a question… It has been years since I attempted to get my hands on the official MM for the United States. Last time I looked it was sold in sections and the updates were about $100 each.

Do you have current information on where I could obtain a copy and perhaps the most recent updates?

    THANKS!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I haven’t any updated information, but materia medicas are often hundreds of dollars.

  12. cis says:

Wow, I wish I had known about this years ago… It would have saved my partner from the sepsis, a broken spine (osteomyelitis), decompression surgery.a tons of antibiotics and likely damage to his heart (which only surfaced this year).

Would it have also helped my aunt when she developed “dry gangrene” at age 84? The only “treatment” that was offered to her was amputation!!! (which we knows leads to a swift death among older people and sure enough… ). Very sad! Particularly since she was in an hospital all along…

  13. Denise says:

I’m having trouble downloading the remedy card. I’m not getting the email. I’ve checked spam. Is it just me? Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You should be all set by now.

  14. Geralyn_D says:

I was woken with familiar feelings of huffing for air and staggering when going to use the toilet and what I thought was an ant bite now had a donut sized ring thickening and my leg itched from knee to foot (I call this suicidal itching!) Having dealt with sepsis syndrome for 5 years I knew instinctively I was in trouble and having the amnesiac thinking that it brings I couldn’t remember what I did to deal with it! I fired up the PC and googled “joette’s blog sepsis” and this brand new blog post told what I needed and amazingly I had 2 doses left of a pyrogenium water remedy I made up a year ago! What a relief I felt as it started working in less than an hour. I threw in 2 rounds of Wim Hof breathing, an allicin topical wash down and was off to sleep in about an hour! Thanks Joette! I am guessing this might hbeen some wicked spider bite instead of an ant!

  15. Andrea says:

another round of antibiotics for cellulitis, would pyrogen help cellulitis, do you cover cellulitis in your blogs please. Also have you discovere https://narayaniremedies.com/ they also discuss the banejeri protocols there too, new wave of homeopathy brilliant and they mention WAR which is a combined mix for infection and sepsis.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you read the post carefully, I believe you’ll find your answer.

      1. Andrea says:

thank you Joette, some day I will save up enough pennies and pounds to take one of your amazing courses. Andrea

  16. You said, “Homeopathics do not depend on a rich blood supply for delivery, so they are well-suited for bone-based infections.” So is pyrogenium an indicated remedy for infected root canal teeth, which are, basically, bone-based? Also, after an infected upper molar(root canal tooth) was extracted, there apparently was a hole in my sinus and I experienced a septic reaction. I didn’t use pyrogenium, but the infection has persisted in the sinus and I’m about to undergo a sinus wash procedure.
    Ruth

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

As a good biological dentist will likely recommend, the way to treat an infected root canal is extraction. Homeopathy is 2nd to the surgery.

Should you be interested, I cover this fully in my course “The Antibiotic Alternative”.

      1. Toni says:

my biological dentist just prescribes antibiotics for this very same problem Where are the remedy cards on the website so that i can learn more?

  17. Christine says:

    Hi Joette,
Would you use pyrogenium for a 12 year old dog with gingivitis? I do not want to put her under anesthesia, as she has an enlarged heart.
    Christine

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      I wouldn’t use for gingivitis.

  18. Tanya Oberg says:

I’ve tried getting remedy cards. They never come through to my email. This one is no exception. Am I doing something wrong?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It sounds like you have a blocker.

  19. Selima says:

I’m having problems with the cards too. It shows an error at Infusionsoft – sorry, Joette!!

    1. Selima says:

I have the screenshot of the error if you need it…!!

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Try a different browser or it could a pop-up blocker.

  20. Selima says:

I have the screenshot of the error if you need it…!!

  21. Christine Joseph says:

Would this also be the remedy of choice for the bacteria, Nocardia brasiliensis, found in a wound but also suspect for pneumonia? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We generally don’t focus out which type of bacteria is to be targeted. Instead, we use the diagnosis to determine the medicine. In this case (reference the article) its sepsis.

  22. Diane says:

    Hi Joette,

I just learned from my Boiron rep that Pyrogenium is currently out of stock in France (I’m in the U.S. so it sounds like that’s the normal source for it) and that it will likely be discontinued soon for regulatory issues. So, I just thought I’d let you know in case you want to stock up on it. I was able to find some at WHP (homeopathyworks.com) in some bottle sizes.

  23. Diane says:

Oops – ignore the out of stock reference in my earlier post (I got this mixed up with Bovista). The rest is still correct. Sorry for the confusion.

  24. Deborah Matthews says:

Would this be used to target a “primordial bacteria”?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t generally distinguish between types of bacteria to make a case for using this medicine or that. We choose according to the organ affected and how it presents.

  25. nmx says:

Even better…. Pyrogennum will cure an abscessed tooth… so no root canal…

  26. Rachel says:

    Dear Mrs. Calabrese,

Would you think of giving Pyrogenium to prevent puerperal fever if the water broke long ago and the midwife believed the labor was long? (In addition to Homeopathic efforts to get things moving.)

    Blessings & thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would not use it unless there was a true threat of infection. I’m afraid I don’t agree that broken waters are necessarily dangerous even for days. Give your midwife Ignatia 200, twice daily. She needs to relax.

  27. Rachel says:

Haha! That made me laugh. 🙂 Thank you for your answer and yes, my friend’s midwife is rather a “Nervous Nelly” so I will lovingly suggest it, as I think you are spot on. Thanks again.

  28. Debbie says:

Dear Joette- I just wanted to say thank you for providing us such valuable information. I really appreciate the opportunity for learning and I plan on saving up to take some courses.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re welcome, Debbie. A good way to learn for very little cost is to join my online study group, Gateway to Homeopathy. You’ll fast track your ability and be able to purchase courses at substantial savings once you’ve completed the classes.

  29. Hope says:

Please, I am so hoping you can help me. I am just learning about homeopathy. My son (age 15) had a fracture in the root of a root canaled tooth 2 months ago. He developed an abscess that appeared on the gum over the root fracture 5 weeks later, with low fever. He was put on antibiotics (clindamycin due to amoxicillin allergy), and the tooth was extracted one week later. He was given a bone graft at the time of extraction by the oral surgeon. Other oral surgeons did not recommend a bone graft into an active infection site. He received a double dose of clindamycin for one week after bone graft.

It is now 4 wks since the bone graft/extraction and 3 wks since the antibiotic was stopped. All looks great, no pain or inflammation, but he still has a slight fever (in the 99’s to low 100 degrees. 2x just at night 100.6 and 100.8 just on one side of his head, which went down in an hour). His normal temperature is often well below 98.6.

I am truly so sorry to bother you, but I am beside myself that I made a mistake to have him have a bone graft into an infection site (to preserve bone). Could you plese tell me if this infection can be healed with homeopathics? Would that be pyrogenium? The only way to tell if he is getting better is if the low fever stays consistently normal. He was at high 98’s today — the best so far, but reached 100 later on without activity. He is very thin; temp goes up with sports and in the sun. Once after antibiotics my temperature was in the low 100’s for a month as well (yin deficiency/loss of fluids from severe sweating). I am so sorry this is so long.

Please — you said pyrogenium for soft tissue around the bone but a different remedy for bone infection. I’m not sure which he would have if he had a bone graft and the graft material was not totally pure into the extraction site after tooth removal when abscess showed in the gum over the root of the fractured tooth.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I assume you already know that he needs to be under the care of a competent dentist. If you’re interested in working with me one on one you may contact my office but you must also remain under the dentist’s care. Should this not be of interest to you, I cover these kinds of conditions in my course titled Alternative to Antibiotics. Being that it’s a virtual course, it would be instantly available. Go to JoettesLearningCenter.com. Remember however that this is an adjunct to dental care.

  30. Hope says:

There is no sign of an abscess right now anywhere. Completely healed gum.

  31. Hope says:

    Thank you very much.

  32. Heather says:

Hello Joette, Thank you for all the knowledge you share. My son recently had a severe bladder/kidney infection due to him ignoring symptoms and trying to push through (he has now learned this is a very bad idea!) We had concerns of sepsis due to low blood pressure and he ended up on antibiotics. After several days of a high fever that left him feeling miserable, a friend (one of your students) recommended pyrogenium. After two doses, his temp began fluctuating wildly spiking 104.3 and then dropping to 95 a couple of times, with profuse sweating in between. He was checked at the ER for sepsis and was fine. Do you think the pyrogenium make his temp swing so low? I have learned a lot about a fever being good, but what about a low temp? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I can’t asses nor offer you specifics because I don’t advise on this forum. for reference, a fever is good in simple childhood illnesses such as a cold but not good in the case of a urinary tract infection in an adult. Kidney infections can be serious. Stay close to your primary or nephrologist.

  33. Anna Deepwell says:

Hi, thank you for this amazing information. What would you use for a general infection that has not progressed to sepsis, such as cellulitis? Also, I’ve tried to find where to purchase pyrogenium in Canada and the borion website doesn’t have it for sale. Do you know why, or where we can get it? Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

Pyrogenium can be found at Helios in England.

  34. Anna Deepwell says:

Thanks, but I’m actually in Canada. Any suggestions of where it can be purchased in Canada?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

Thompsons in Toronto may have it. I believe they may still be on Young St.
Having said this, Helios is super fast.

  35. Mary Claire Hayes says:

Pyrogenium 200 is not available on boiron. Where can I buy it? I live in the USA. Also a relative told me about a company called Celletech that makes homeopathic remedies, but I don’t see it recommended on Joettes site. Is Celletech recommended?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

      Hahnemann Pharmacy and Helios Pharmacy.

  36. Linda says:

Could Pyrogenium be used for a severe ingrown toenail infection? If not, any other suggestions? The Hepar sulph and Belladonna protocol did nothing. Have also tried hepar sulph 200 and gunpowder. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

What I give you are the most common medicines for such infections. If after using them by giving them their due my suggestion is that you look up in your repertory to reveal the many, many other choices or consider my course online titled Antibitoic Alternative.
You can find it by going to JoettesLearningCenter and scroll down.

  37. Mary C says:

Good Afternoon, Joette. I found myself in need of this information, due to set-backs with a 6 month old lab, post-spaying. I tried to purchase Pyrogenium at Boiron’s own site, amazon, iHerb, Vitacost, and WHP. I DID purchase it through OHM. As finding it was such a bear, I purchased 30 and 200 potencies.

It seems as if Diane (posted 11/13/AD 19) may have been correct about “regulatory issues”.

Thank you, Joette, for such excellent information. God bless.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

Yes; it demonstrates how important it is to own these medicines before we need them.
Own the medicines. Own the knowledge. You just never know.

      1. Sara says:

My niece has sepsis and its being treated currently with antibiotics in the hospital. Should she still give this remedy or the time for that has passed already?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

Some choose to use both alopathic and homeopathic simultaneously.

  38. Sara says:

Would it atill be helpful if the child is on antiobiotics for 36 hours already isnit still needed or a different remedy is need ed

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

Use the symptoms that present and as they shift, you too will shift in your remedy selection.
