Reading others’ success stories with homeopathy is not only inspirational, but it’s also aspirational. Case in point, a recent Academy of Practical Homeopathy® applicant shared her success story with an injured turtle. Did Dr. Samuel Hahnemann know how far-reaching homeopathy would be as he unearthed the power of highly diluted and succussed natural substances?
I have no doubt he did. But I’m not sure he knew that a little turtle would have his homeopathic medicines to thank for a renewed lease on life.
“My daughter accidently hit a turtle on a country road at dusk. She brought the turtle home to see if she could help it.
“The turtle looked like it was dead. It's back shell had a cracked in it with flesh showing between the two pieces. It's head, arms and legs were tucked inside the shell and the turtle was not moving.
“I had made my daughter a first aid kit based on the handout in Gateway I. All the remedies (except the cell salts) were in liquid form making it easy to administer it to the turtle.
“She dropped Aconite on it's head and almost immediately his head emerged. Then he raised his head up towards her and opened his mouth. So, she put it a couple of drops of Aconite and Hypericum.
“The ‘dead’ turtle came alive and started walking around the box trying to climb the walls. We tried mending the shell but nothing would stick. The turtle was so frisky, we had to tape the turtle to a refrigerator dish to keep it from moving around as we tried taping its shell.

“We kept the turtle a few more days to make sure it was feeling better and then returned it to where we had found it. When we let it out of the box it walked straight towards the pond, and we never saw it again.” — Cheryl M.*

Turtles are incredibly resilient. We recently found a painted turtle that had also been run over. We only had pellets so we dropped a bit of arnica into the wound. Then we took him to turtle Rehab center. I don’t know if it helped but worth a try.

I would have tried to find a wildlife Rehabber to check out the turtle and make sure the shell heals before release. Every state has a listing of licensed wild life Rehabbers. Or this is a good resource.

Great story about the trurtle and finding just the right remedy to help him! I volunteer at a wildlife rescue center and we have had several turtles with cracked shells. I want to add that we never release them back into the wild until the shell has healed since bacteria from water or soil can infect the skin if it enters through the crack.There are special types of glues and resins that are used on shells to help them heal, but you really have to know what to know you’re doing . After giving a homeopathic remedy for the trauma, it’s best to contact a wildlife rehabber who has training in this type of injury and will know how to repair the shell.
It would be great if you could offer a homeopathic course on animals, because they have certain health issues that seem to be more common than in humans (kidney disease in cats) and since they don’t speak their presenting symptoms can indicate a range of different disorders making it hard(at least for me)to figure out which remedy and what dosing would be best.
The frequency of administration for homeopathic remedies is the same for humans and animals, and the remedies and potencies are generally the same. However, you’re right — animals do have different conditions than humans.
That’s why a proper diagnosis from a veterinarian is often recommended. Once you have that, you can follow the condition-specific protocols I teach.
Additionally, you may want to purchase Dr. Richard Pitcairn’s repertory. It is an indispensable source of veterinary homeopathic information.
Several years ago we discovered a young bird caught in fishing line. It wasn’t moving one of its legs well.
We disentangled the line best we could and freed the bird. It couldn’t fly or move and was in a vulnerable location on the ground. I believe we dropped Bryonia in water on it; perhaps Aconite or Arnica as well – I don’t recall.
In the morning, the bird was gone. And no feathers around to suggest it had been another animal’s dinner.
Wonderful story and quick thinking. Would symphytum have been appropriate for mending of the shell after the aconite and hypericum?
