The Premier Remedy for Childbirth and a Few More

If only I had known about this one during my first birth years ago. It likely would have been a game-changer.

If I had known about this remedy back then, before I was a seasoned homeopath, I would have had regular productive contractions that did their job of birthing my son expediently. But no.

I labored for 39 hours.

Slow labor is common for first-time mothers. Stalls and reluctant-to-start labors can also be patterns that continue through all births for some women. But all this need not be.

Granted, we don’t usually know what we’re in for with each birth, so that makes it even more important to have this essential protocol on hand:

Caulophyllum 30 or 200 taken every few hours when labor presents with weak, erratic, and irregular contractions.

Being older — 40 to be exact — and wiser for my next pregnancy, I took Caulophyllum 6 once a day, every day, for three weeks before my expected due date. That labor lasted only 4 hours and I did it at home where I wanted to be.

Much better, right?

Homeopathy is the only medicine that can bring conditions to a whisper instead of a screech. It is also the only medicine that can change your body for the future, as though you’re starting from a whole new level because the remedy uprooted the prior condition.

As proof of that concept, my last pregnancy (at 43) was one for the record books — at least for my record book!

My labor only lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes. I gave birth standing up…and at home again. (You may insert your applause here.)

Long labor is not the only vexing issue during pregnancy. So, while I consider Caulophyllum the premier medicine, it is certainly not the only one that you may want to have on hand during delivery.

Many expectant moms and midwives have found the protocols for pregnancy and labor that I offer in my course, Feminopathy, to be especially helpful. Click here to learn more.

My Survivalist Guide to Homeopathy also features essential remedies for emergencies that present during pregnancy and postpartum.

Here are just a few:

Chamomilla: for painful contractions when the woman is also irritable; even abusive.
Belladonna: for severe, hot, throbbing pains and the need to bear down even before it’s time.

Arnica: for pain, contractions, after birth, bleeding, and that overall feeling of being “beat up.” I use this in 200 routinely during and after labor, regardless of symptoms.

I’ve also devoted a couple of other blogs to pregnancy issues in the past. I realize that when you’re an expectant mother, you probably may already feel overwhelmed, so let me help make it easier with some clickable links:

Looking for help with nausea? This blog speaks to nausea in general, but specifically to Tabacum 200, once daily, for nausea during pregnancy. There’s also Ipecac 30 for morning sickness. A couple of times daily until much improved is usually the best way to take it.

And don’t overlook my pregnancy cell salt regimen to nourish mama and baby during pregnancy. I highly recommend your taking a moment to read through and follow it.

Genuine, non-medicated health is the best gift you can give to your newborn baby.

My mission is for you to benefit from all I have learned from my years of studies, my practice, my ongoing fellowship in Kolkata, India, as well as from my personal experience as a mother who counted exclusively on homeopathy.

What I ask of you in return is to share this information via word of mouth, sending folks to this blog, and your own testimonies of homeopathy’s efficacy.

Warmly,

I am a homeopath with a world wide practice working with families and individuals via Skype. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety s and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Cimicifuga 200 did the trick for me for my 2nd birth (5 hrs at home). First was 36+ at hospital. If we have a third I will give Caullophyllum a try! Thanks for sharing!

  2. wsensing says:

    Bless you for providing this!!

Joette, Thank you for giving out this information. As I had told you previously, your remedies got her labor moving! I appreciate you sharing these valuable tips.

Hi Margaret! It’s a beautiful thing.

  4. Melissa Williams says:

I’m just 7 weeks postpartum with my 4th child and did the whole cell salt routine with this pregnancy as well as my previous one 4 years ago. At my midwife’s recommendation, I also used Cimicifuga and Caulophyllum together in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. I can personally attest to their effectiveness–I labored lightly throughout the day and gave birth easily with only 1 1/2 hours of true labor on “birth day” in water at home. Wow! My first baby was 26 hours of labor, in the hospital. ;-( I love homeopathy!!! Thanks, Joette!

Didn’t you write a blog post once about stopping profuse bleeding? I was thinking it was in relation to pregnancy but could be used in general. (I typed bleeding in the search box but couldn’t find it.) Can you point me in the right direction if I’m thinking correctly? I want to share your info and first aid chart with an instagrammer who’s big on first aid, particularly tourniquets, and I figured that post would pique his interest. Thank you!!

I think that’s it, thank you!!

  8. KT says:

Maybe you have plans already…but will you address the use of homeopathy with post partum baby blues…and more. After my 4th child I had a panic attack on day 10 post partum…never had that happen before in my life ever! I also did not know about homeopathy at the time. After child number 5 I alternated b/t anxiety and depression for the first 8 weeks post partum, until consulted with a naturopath who also specialized in homeopathy. She was able to find my the correct remedy that within 2 days took away appx. 80% of my symptoms. This started me on my journey of homeopathy, and I haven’t looked back since. BTW, of my 5 deliveries the longest I ever had was 9 hours and that was my first who happened to be a Frank Breech that I delivered naturally. My third was born in the mini van we never made it to the hospital…..and that’s what I love about homeopathy…we are all different, so shouldn’t our remedies be customized for us?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Customizing remedies based on personality is the method used in classical homeopathy and there certainly are times when this would be useful. But I teach practical homeopathy which means we use condition specific medicines. It makes the remedy choice easier.

It’s usually Sepia, Ignatia or if life threatening, Aurum.

  9. Leah says:

I am 38 weeks pregnant and just bought Arnica, Caullophyllum, and Chamomilla. I have been reading conflicting things about the dosage to take and when to take. I read not to take Caullophyllum unless your uterus is weak, though it sounds like you took it regardless? I, of course, don’t know how long I’m going to be in labor so I’m wondering if it’s ok to take it right away, and then switch to Chamomilla when the contractions get more intense and alternate between that and Arnica? I know Arnica is also good afterwards. Any advice is appreciated!

If you choose to follow the info from this article, it will be only one of the many ways to skin the cat. What you’re asking me will take longer than what I can answer in this forum. Consider my CD Baby Grande or my course, Feminopathy.

  10. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In that case, I warn you to not read too much of my work. You’re likely to find a lot of what I write will “disturb” you.

  11. Lisa says:

For the Caullophyllum 6 did you take the dosage recommended on the bottle once a day? I have purchased the product you recommended but want to make sure I take the correct dosage. Thank you! L

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Pls re-read the article. Its all there.

  12. Danita says:

Would this still be recommended for someone attempting a VBAC with 15 months between babies?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you’re asking me if homeopathic medicines would be appropriate for someone with a history of VBAC, my answer is that unless there is a specific reason not to, I can’t think of why they wouldn’t be.

  13. Melissa says:

I’ve had relatively short labors — 9 hours for my longest, 5 for my shortest. Would this contraindicate the use of this remedy for my up coming birth?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

My 2nd and 3rd labors were 3 hours followed by 1 hour and 50 minutes respectively, perhaps because I used these methods.

  14. Melissa says:

Thank you for getting back to me! I understood that you second and third labors were shorter, but I wasn’t sure if the remedy worked because your first labor was much longer. I’ll start on this tonight!

Can I ask one more question? This is my fourth baby, and she is hanging our breech — I’m 35 weeks. I was recommended to try pulsatilla. I only have access to it in 30c, so I tried that for 5 days, and she remains breech. I ordered it in 200, but I read on another page that one shouldn’t take it for more than a week, and definitely not more than one dose at 200. You say that a woman can take it at 200 every other day to see results?

    1. Kathleen says:

Melissa, I know this is a homeopathy blog, but I have some personal experience with breech babies. Is your amniotic fluid level normal? If so, in addition to the homeopathic remedies, I would recommend you crawl around on your hands and knees for 30 min each day. You could break it down into (3) 10 minute increments spread evenly throughout the day. I did this with my 3rd child and she flipped. Best of Luck. FYI my first child was a Frank Breech and I delivered her naturally with no complications.

      1. Melissa says:

Hi Kathleen! I have been crawling, and just about every other thing under the sun that you can think of to move a breech other than a version. Thank you for the advice, though!

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

My 1st labor (before I knew about homeopathy) was 47 hours long. I promised myself that I’d not do that again and searched till I found botanical, nutritional and esp. homeopathic methods. Hence the outcome I sought!

If folks hope to see the results that I have come to expect, I urge them to use the potency I discuss. It’s available on the blog by clicking on it.

  15. Melissa says:

Thank you! The 200 potency I ordered will be here tomorrow. I’ll start that as soon as I get it! Thanks again!

  16. Rachel says:

Thanks so much for the info- greatly appreciate all your blog posts about pregnancy and labor! I tend to have the OPPOSITE problem– too many Braxton-Hicks contractions too soon in my pregnancy (I guess I inherited the “irritable uterus” gene and have dealt with it during all my pregnancies). I have been searching for homeopathic remedies that would help calm things down until I’m in the “home stretch”, but have not come up with anything yet. Are you familiar with anything that could help? Thanks so much!!
