It’s Halloween! Let’s Talk About Bones

Every aspiring homeopath (caring mom) must learn how to recognize each remedy's uses and characteristics, and how to differentiate between remedies.

materia medica (Latin for “materials of medicine”) is the tool that helps one do this, and is, therefore, the most necessary book in your homeopathic library.

This is my materia medica.

Bone Density

The decorative skeletons I’ve been seeing everywhere got me thinking … what better time than now to talk about our bones?

Wouldn’t it be great if, like those Halloween decorations, we could actually see our skeletons to determine our bone health?

We can’t exactly squeeze our arms and feel brittle bones, right? And waiting around to see if a bone breaks doesn’t sound very effective.

Yes, yes. I know we can see our bones through x-rays, and we can certainly undergo bone density tests.

But do those tests really show us the entire picture? I’ve long wondered about the accuracy of bone density scans and recently ran across some research in support of this skepticism.

That research, through two studies, determined that body size — meaning your height and weight — can skew the results of bone density tests.

Put more simply, the bone density tests of petite women may show they have lower bone density than they actually do!

 These are theories.

And you know how it is with theories: There are those that indicate inaccuracy in bone density testing and still others that contradict them.

But, in light of these conflicting theories, I propose that we need to err on the side of caution — take a second (or third) look at the tests themselves and the accuracy of the conclusions drawn from them.

The rationale behind a bone density scan is that one can observe how thick the inner workings of the bone is.

But, I wonder if there is more to it? The human body is infinitely more complex and sophisticated than what is sometimes assumed.

I like to compare the perceived accuracy of bone density scans to the outward appearance of different styles of bridges. Just because a bridge may not appear to be strong, does not necessarily mean that it’s weak.

Bone Density

Think about stone bridges that were built before the turn of the last century and the modern, more spindle-like ones that we build today.

The thin, sinuous ones are just as safe and sturdy as the bulky, thick ones. The components of the bridge may look different, but the effective functionality is still there — a safe and supportive structure.

And so it may be with our bones.

I’m not saying that bone density tests are of no value. But, in light of studies that now imply inaccuracy, particularly depending on body type, I’d like to keep an open mind.

If we can’t be 100% positive about the accuracy of bone density testing, then what should we do?

Super simple. Nutrient dense meals. I’ve shared the recipe for my No-Nonsense Bone Broth in a previous blog. If you missed it before, click here.

In addition to nutrition, we can also take care of our bones with homeopathy — of course!

It bears repeating that Calc phos 6 (Calcarea phosphorica) is the premier remedy for improving bone density. While homeopathic remedies are not supplements, Calc phos 6 can be taken  to increase the strength of bones when they’re weak.

If there is truly a pathology — say, breaking bones too frequently or easily — Symphytum 200 may also be added to the schedule.

But again, Symphytum 200 is used only if there is a true pathology.

We ALL need to take care of our bones every day … That way, we won’t need to depend on the accuracy of assessment tools or bone density tests. We’ll already be one step ahead!

If you would like to learn more about bone density, osteoporosis, and other issues that affect women, I invite you to consider my course, Feminopathy.

Meanwhile, get cooking,  keep your pot full of bones, and smile at the seasonal skeletons — knowing you’ve been taking care of your bones all year!

I am a homeopath with a world wide practice working with families and individuals via Skype. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety s and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  1. Jayell says:

This sounds like a good way to improve the quality of forming teeth in children/teens as well. Or would there be a more specific remedy for teeth?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Yes it is.

  2. Sabine says:

Thanks for a good article, Joette 🙂
Would Calc phos 6 be the best choice for remineralizing teeth as well? (in regards to healing cavities and just making teeth healthier and stronger in general)
    Thank you!
    Kind regards
    Sabine

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      yes.

  3. Sandy says:

Well, if we don’t know that they are weak, can we just take the calc phos 6 anyway? Or should we see some sign such as in the tooth enamel not lookin so good? Or when ladies get that hump on the neck?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It best to use homeopathy when there is a pathology already presenting.

  4. Ann says:

My interest in the Banerji Protocols has led me to your site. And although my family has used homeopathy for years, finding this website had been a godsend in providing greater clarity for successfully using the remedies. Most recently for a throat infection.

A question. I was planning on using Symphytum 200c after dental implant surgery. However, after reading this article, I am now uncertain this choice will be helpful. Should I search for a different option?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Any time there’s injury to the bone, Symphytum 200 is my 1st thought. An implant is an injury.

  5. Greg Knell says:

The hyperlink for Calc Phos 6 errorenously goes to Calc Phos 30c. So, the question remains: is the potency for bone density 6x or 6c?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

6x is my 1st choice but in many parts of the world it cannot be found, which is why I usually don’t include that information here.

  6. Sharon Behn says:

How often to take calc Phos 6? 3x a day?also with symphytum 200 would lots of cavities present as part of the pathology?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Cavities could certainly be a part of the pathology as an indicator.

  7. Christina V. says:

What about an area of the mouth which has receding gums to the point of an exposed root of a tooth? Would Symphytum be indicated for that as well as the Calc Phos 6?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When you’re looking for a protocol for a condition, google my name and the name of the condition. Start here https://joettecalabrese.com/blog/whats-a-gingiva-and-how-does-it-get-itis/

  8. Natalie says:

How much and for how long would you take calc phos

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Until very much better. So if there are symptoms, until they resolve.

  9. Judy L says:

I had been taking Symphytum 200 with Cal Ph 6x (cell salt) for osteoporosis. After I fractured a toe, I saw the Banerji book recommends Cal ph 3x, which I ordered and have been taking . But because if the fracture being slow to heal, I am also taking cal phos 6x and cal Fluor 6x. Should I be taking the 3x, the 5x in the cell salt, or both st separate times?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t use the same medicine in different potencies in hopes of covering our bases. Choose the potency and stay with that alone.

I usually refer to 6x on my blog becuase 3x is not readily available in most of the U.S. and other areas of the world. If 3x is available, I use that instead. For my students and clients who may avail OHM Pharmacy, it works out well. For those who don’t have access, 6x is readily found.

  10. Rachael says:

I am so happy I came across this article! Thank you! Do you follow the instructions on the bottle for how many times a day you take it or is there another suggestion to follow for frequency?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When it comes to these particular medicines, the directions on the bottle are a good place to start.

  11. Meena says:

I’m interested in using many of your protocols and remedies, however, I was told by someone that their homeopath told them that homeopathy and acupuncture must not be used together, as they would cancel each other out, or lessen each other’s effect. What is your opinion?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

That is not my experience. Having said this, the problem with using 2 paradigms simultaneously is that it makes it unclear which one is acting and this needs to be known.
