Cell Salts - Joette Calabrese

“But, Joette! There are over 6,000 homeopathic remedies! I can’t remember all of them!”

Well, of course.

You most likely have a busy life.

But, I bet you can handle twelve things, can’t you? And that’s exactly how many cell salts there are. I mean, if you can conquer a dozen eggs or a dozen doughnuts, you can certainly conquer a dozen cell salts.

I call the Cell Salts “The Easy Homeopathy™” for just this reason. They are not only an excellent gateway for newcomers getting started in homeopathy, but they also remain an ever-effective homeopathic medicine no matter how educated you become.

I’ve noticed that cell salts seem to be a popular discussion on Facebook, so I decided to do an ongoing blog series on each of them one-by-one. (You may recall from a couple of months ago my post Cell Salts: The Basic Building Blocks, in which I discussed Calc phos.)

Today, let’s talk about Ferrum Phos.

All you have to do is remember the sound of an F — as in Ferrum Fos. (Okay, okay, I cheated on the spelling of the “ph” sound there, but I’m making a point.)

This is exactly the method I used to teach my sons about Ferrum Phos when they were growing up and learning to read. In fact, I used it as a phonics lesson to show that F and Ph made the same sound. (I spoke about this during a Facebook Live titled Convalescing with Cell Salts.)

It was PHun!

Hyland’s bottle of Ferrum Phos even has a big, red number Four on the outside! (It’s as though they’re playing along.)

So, let’s get down to business. When should you think of Ferrum Phos?

  • As a First aid remedy
  • When addressing inFlammation
  • If Ferritin is low (iron deficiency)
  • prophylactically after exposure during Flu season
  • During convalescence from the Flu
  • Fever, Fever, Fever

For an acute problem with a presenting fever, Ferrum phos 6x is generally taken every 3-6 hours until temperature has returned to normal.

For a chronic issue (for instance, chronic inflammation), Ferrum phos 6x is most often used twice daily until very much better.

What could be easier than this?

There is an effective medication in that little bottle of Ferrum phos — all you have to do is remember the F.

Warmly,

P.S. If you want more information, I have produced a CD/digital download titled, Cell Salts; The Easy Homeopathy™ that will help you get a firm grasp on all twelve of the cell salt remedies.

Plus, I utilize the same system to teach you that I used myself when memorizing over 300 remedies for my certification exams. It works!

If you’re interested in continuing your homeopathy education, I suggest you employ Gateway to Homeopathy I, my guided study group curriculum. You can assemble your own study group with friends and family. Or, if you don’t have a group of your own, we can help you find a study group through our dedicated Facebook page.

Plus, we have launched our Gateway to Homeopathy II — an exclusive offering for those who have completed the prerequisite Gateway I.  The Gateway II curriculum covers cell salts in much more detail.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Rly wish the course transcript was available without buying the cd 1st. I am not an auditory learner so I feel penalized as I have to pay for the course twice to get the information ?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’ve been told you must pay twice?

      1. Hélène says:

Ive been told I must buy the CDs or digital download before I can buy the transcript, yes.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, they’re correct. In order to purchase the transcript, the download or CD must be purchased.

          1. Sandy says:

I thought the transcript was part of the entiee package.

  2. Katie says:

Love it! Cell salts series is a wonderful idea. I look forward to more! Thanks!

  3. Jameela Ahmed says:

Hi! Does “addressing inflammation” refer to chronic inflammation or acute such as that caused by injury? Would this be useful for inflammation in the lungs from asthma?

  4. Eileen says:

Could you use ferrum phos for inflammation of joints or injuries?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It best used for injuries, not necessarily for chronic joint inflammation.

  5. Kathy says:

So can you talk to me about the difference b/t the 6x vs 30x potency? Personally, I have had good results w/the 30x at the beginning stages of a sore throat. Generally, 2 doses for me spaced about 90 minutes apart will nip any sore throat cause in the bud.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When we see improvement after using a homeopathic, we don’t question it.

  6. Debbie says:

Thank you for teaching us in a PHun way!! ? Looking forward to the series!

  7. April says:

Ferrum Phos is one of the salts in the BioPlasma I purchased on Amazon. I’ve been contemplating giving my children a dose of the BioPlasma daily, (reading the Amazon reviews, lots of people take this daily), can it be used like this daily?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Many homeopathic medicines when correctly chosen may be taken daily. It’s always better, however, to find what is specifically needed and choosing in a more targeted way.

    2. Irma says:

I agree with Joette that it’s better to target what is needed. Another issue with bio plasma, particularly with it being taken daily, is that the kidneys need to process out all those minerals and it can be hard on them. I heard this in a webinar by one of Joette’s colleagues, Tanya Renner, who does a lot of work with cell salts.

  8. Karen Eastin Heap says:

Do you think it will be an option in the future to only purchase the transcript without the digital download? I truly enjoy the convenience of having a hard copy to thumb through when I need it quickly and am not an auditory learner.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s not in the plan as of now. I hope you’ll find the CD useful at some point.

  9. Kristi says:

Love it Joette! I know Ferrum phos has been good for me. Is it strictly for inflammation associated with injury, or could it be used in an instance where there is chronic gut inflammation? As always, thanks for helping us learn in such an easy manner.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When it comes to gut issues it can be helpful with diarrhea. But in general, I’ve not seen it be useful for chronic GI conditions.

  10. tuneer says:

does ferrom phos 6X gives insomnia when taken in a regular basis?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Any homeopathic can cause symptoms when used without proper rationale.

  11. Andrea says:

So do the First aid and onFlammation go together then? I’m assuming yes since nit used in chronic inflammation. Would there be another first aid use? You are SUCH a great teacher.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      I don’t understand your question.

  12. Patricia says:

Can a cell salt be taken at the same time as another remedy one might be taken or is it a better idea to take separately?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you mean taken at the same moment, then its better to separate them by several minutes or until the palate is clean.

  13. Lisa says:

I recently purchased your CDs on Cell Salts and really really really am enjoying them! It’s worth every cent. Thank you for putting this together. For those who are not naturally prone to learning by auditory, perhaps they could still get both the CD and transcript, and then gather together friends to share in listening. I am eager to implement these tips and tools into our family. I do have a question to ask here: we take vitamins but I’d be interested in getting to a bare minimum – weeding out those not needed. Can Cell Salts help our family do this? What book resources would you recommend reading in learning how to use cell salts instead of vitamins… even if just on an “as needed basis” ?

  14. Tanya says:

What is the recommended potency and dosing for correcting chronic anemia? Thank you for your time!

  15. Tanya says:

If the symptoms of diagnosed anemia much more closely matches those of Ferrum metallicum, would that make it preferable over Fer phos? Would the dosing of 6x twice daily still be the recommended protocol? Is an additional supplement, such as desiccated liver, still needed to raise iron levels? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are many ways to skin a cat. Potentially either one, as well as others, could easily be indicated. Without taking your case, it would be difficult to comment on which one, what potency, what frequency, etc.

  16. Danielle says:

I know there is a BP for anemia. But if one has low iron and low ferritin, but is not anemic, would Ferrum Met be more appropriate, especially if the symptoms match more closely? Or is the BP for any kinds of low iron issues regardless of anemic?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are many ways to skin a cat.
If one medicine is a closer fit, then we commence with that one and keep the other one in the wings should your 1st thought fail.

  17. Teresa says:

I originally purchased just the CDs in the cell salt series. I’d like to purchase the transcripts now, if possible. Do I have to buy the whole package with the CD download?

  18. Heather says:

What might you take if your iron levels are unusually high but but d is low?

    1. Paula Gorgas says:

Excellent advice, Joette. Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

  19. Chari says:

Should Ferrum Phos be taken away from calcium supplements or foods that are high in calcium? Typically with supplements, it is recommended that calcium and iron be taken at different times because absorption could be affected. I know that, if taking homeopathic remedies after a meal, one should wait 15 to 30 mins after the meal.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

1st let me say that I’m not a fan of calcium supplements.
And there’s no reason to dance around iron, calcium, etc. with homeopathy.
And homeopathics are best taken into a clean mouth regardless of how long ago a meal has been eaten.

      1. Chari says:

Thank you for your response – very helpful!

  20. Rob Simpson says:

Dear Joette, I am very interested in asking your advice please. I’ve been advised to take cell salts particularly #4 Ferrum phos 6X to normalize and remove excess iron from my Liver as I have been diagnosed with Hemochomatosis. Do you believe that this will help to remove the excess iron please? Thank you. Kind regards. Rob.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I can’t tell you whether FP will act for you specifically but it has a history of making corrections to iron imbalances.

  21. Melissa says:

How quickly should one expect low iron/ferritin levels to increase when taking Ferrum Phos 6x twice daily?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I’ve seen it take a couple of months to many months.

  22. monica says:

    Hi Joette
I was wondering if you need to take the cell salts twice a day to work, or they will work even if you take them once a day? I never remember to take it twice a day! and to address the iron imbalance it’s enough to take bioplasma every day that has Ferrum Phos 3X instead of ferrum phos 6x? or should I Take it separately too?
I take bioplasma because I address other problem too other than iron, like gum sensitivity, balance water etc..

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

It sounds like you’re getting it twice daily given that you’re taking Bioplasma.

  23. Monica Flaherty says:

    Thank you so much Joette!
if you take only bioplasma should you take it twice a day to work??
And instead, if I take bioplasma with Ferrum Phos can I take it at the same time as bioplasma or should I separate them?
    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Most often cell salts are taken twice daily depending on the condition.
Having said this, Ferrum phos is one of the components of Bioplasma so you’re already getting it.

  24. Monica Flaherty says:

    Hi Joette
will the ferrum phos 3x that is in the bioplasma address the low iron? because I noticed that you recommend the cell salts 6X.
    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      Both potencies address low iron.

  25. monica says:

    Hi Joette
will ferrum phos 6X address high ferritin too or it’s good only for low ferritin?

  26. Mary Claire Hayes says:

I have the hylands Ferrum phos 6x. The bottle says take 1 tablet 3x day. Does this mean 1 dose is 1 tablet or 3 tablets?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

I”ve not seen that written as such on a Hyland’s bottle.

      1. Mary Claire Hayes says:

Yes ma’am, it says “dissolve one tablet under the tongue 3 times per day.” It says Hylands cell salt #4 Ferrum phos 6x on front. I know you usually say to follow dosage from the bottle. So that’s why I asked, bc I’d like to start taking this for my iron deficiency anemia

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

These are the directions I found online.
          https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/fda/fdaDrugXsl.cfm?setid=c114cbad-11ed-4b1c-8ee0-33327c0e1718&type=displ

If your bottle reads “one pill,” I’d question whether it’s counterfeit.
4 pills are the dose for an adult.

          1. Mary Claire Hsyes says:

Interesting! I went to Sprouts today to see if I could buy another bottle it was not available. The other Hylands cell salts still available were being discontinued.

      2. Mary Claire Hayes says:

Yes ma’am. That is what the Hylands bottle says. It also says the same on the Kali mur bottle. I would like to use the protocol for my iron deficiency anemia, but am unsure of how many pills is one dose.

  27. Bethany says:

As far as high ferritin goes, would this be effective in regulating iron levels, as to reduce them? I was reading that ferr phos could be a treatment for hemachromatosis. I would like be more confident that this would not always cause an increase in iron. Is there any chance it could be helpful to do the opposite? Thank y

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

We use Ferr phos for conditions that are related to iron irregularities whether wanting of it or too much found in the blood labs. It’s known to balance ferritin, not manipulate it.

  28. Jackie says:

I have Ferrum Phos in a 30C. Can I use this for low iron instead of the Cell Salts? If so, do I take once a day or once a week, etc? Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

The potency I discuss is 6, not 30 and potency matters.

  29. Manal Najibi says:

Hi Joette, I have low iron and low ferritin.. I started taking Ferrum Phos 6x and noticed every time I took it I got nosebleed with in an hour. Is it ok to continue or should I stop it? Thanks
