That’s Not Placebo!

How often have you heard that homeopathy is, at best, a placebo?

If I had a nickel for every time I had to counter that argument, I’d … well, I’d have an impressive stack of nickels (with which to buy more homeopathy, of course)!

So, as an early Christmas gift to you, I’d like to share an excellent retort to that baseless argument.

When I lived in Canada, we had a gorgeous old maple tree on our property. I estimate that it was at least 60 feet tall and would take maybe three people’s outstretched arms to encircle the trunk. Its large canopy stretched for metres! (Since it’s a Canadian tree, I suppose it might think of itself in the metric system.)

This was an ancient tree. Neighbors whose parents and grandparents had lived in the neighborhood estimated the tree to be about 200 years old from the stories they’d been told.

Think about that. That means this maple tree was a mere samara (the fruit/seed pod of the maple family) while homeopathy was a kernel in Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s mind! As this tree grew in Canada, homeopathy grew across the world!

Our tree had lived a healthy and gorgeous life — until our neighbors decided to put in a pool.

Now, even though the tree was on our property, as I mentioned, its canopy stretched way past our property lines. Generally, tree roots spread underground to an equivalent distance as the branches above. But to make matters worse, maples are known for aggressive root networks extending beyond the pruned and carefully tended canopy.

Take a moment, close your eyes and imagine a tree’s root system. What can you compare it to in the human body?

Yes! You got it! A tree’s roots compare to our vascular system. Both systems carry life-giving nutrients through a complex network.

When the digging occurred (to accommodate the neighbor’s pool), our tree’s root system was severely injured, and that whole side of the maple began to suffer immensely.

So, what could I do homeopathically to help my tree?

I’ve often given cell salts to my trees and plants as support for their health. That might have been a place to start.

Once, when a massive windstorm blew through, big branches broke off of the maple. I gave it Arnica 30 at that time. So, perhaps, Arnica alone would have sufficed quite well.

But this was a severe injury to the plant's “vascular system” — a level of damage that could have killed this ancient, majestic tree!

This situation called for more. So, using the same method with which I’ve addressed injuries to the human vascular system, I chose to give my maple Hamamelis 200 mixed with Arnica 3.

It’s easy to do. One can simply dissolve the medicines in a watering can and apply liberally around the root line.

Lo and behold, the maple began to recover; the stressed foliage began to revive.

But how could that be? According to the detractors, homeopathy is mere placebo! Did my conversation with Buster as I watered somehow convince the tree that homeopathy would help? Yep. That’s it! The tree heard me talking!

Obviously not. Plants have no mechanism to be persuaded that a medicine will help. Okay, okay, corn stalks do have ears, but I don’t think they listen very well.

Folks, if this doesn’t prove the validity of homeopathy, I don’t know what does!

Want something even more technical? I’ve mentioned the video of this particular study before, but I think it bears repeating. Watch this two-minute video illustrating a study in which duckweed was used to investigate the effectiveness of homeopathy.

That’s not a placebo!

Pass on the good news of homeopathy!

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

P.S. Remember what a great gift homeopathy can make for the holidays! You may choose to give the remedies themselves (read Give the Gift of Homeopathy for some tips).

And for that very special person, I’m introducing new gift cards available through The Learning Center! Just pick out the dollar amount and personalize your gift card. Then, we will send an email containing the card to your recipient on your chosen date. No reindeer required! They’ll receive all the necessary information to finalize their course choice, pay with the gift card and register themselves as a student!

What could be merrier than that?

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Just to play devil’s advocate here for a minute…. maybe the tree was going to recover anyway? Also, regarding the video, they said that the duckweed treated with arsenicum recovered faster than the duckweed not treated. But how much faster? Was it statistically significant? I think if people want to be really convincing about homeopathy, and I wish they would, then these sort of details need to be provided. Thanks

The real proof is in using it and finding out.

  2. Pamela says:

This is a great story. I’ve often wondered how to treat plants with homeopathy. It makes sense that the roots correlate to our vascular system, but how would you treat the branches and leaves that have never been the same since an unseasonable shocking freeze? And when this occurs during the winter, a water dose would likely cause more harm. Would love your advice or more articles about treating plants and trees in the future, Joette!

My first reply to placebo is this…I don’t care! If I can get 80% success rate healing my children from from broken bones, falls, head injuries, and the flu, then I’ll take it.

But homeopathy has not only help heal my children it also helped heal my two peach trees. These peach trees struggled with leaf curl for at least 10 years. Then one year I knew it was going to be their last. They looked like death. I decided to give them thuja and carbo veg. Within a week I saw new growth. New clumps of leaves were coming out in several places. I checked back on a specific group of leaves, (it was my test area). When I checked I didn’t know where that group of leaves went to, but then realized it was now a young branch about two feet long.

People can call it whatever, but I will call it success!!!

    1. Monika says:

Absolutely! I have seen enough evidence on myself, those a round me I have treated and my dogs to know its definitely not placebo!!

Any ideas for cedar rust on apple trees?

    1. DaveS says:

Hello! When dealing with cedar apple rust, it is very important to remove dead leaves on your orchard floor surrounding the apple trees. This helps interrupt the cycle of life for the spores you’re fighting against.

Some online sellers of trees, like Starkbros, claim to have apple tree varieties resistant to the spores.

Know that if your orchard is within 2 miles of cedar, your apple trees will come under attack.

I’ve treated my growing family with homeopathy successfully for a number of years now, many times with remarkable results. After reading a book on homeopathy for plants a couple years ago, I decided to try out a couple things on garden plants. Usually our lettuce is pretty buggy, and the little green caterpillers especially love it- I feel like it’s at best a fifty-fifty split with what lettuce the bugs get and what my family ends up with. Two springs ago I tried Sulpher 30 mixed in a watering can which I sprinkled on the lettuce maybe once a week, a couple times. That year’s resulting lettuce was 95% worm-free. Coincidence? Possibly. But I repeated the following year with almost as good of results. Also, our green peppers were getting some yellow fungus/wilt problem which was getting worse each year. Most of the leaves would drop eventually drop off the plant, and they were overall unhealthy. Peppers weren’t anything special either. Two springs ago, as the same problem was getting underway again, I treated with homeopathy, thuja and another remedy which escapes me right now- possibly carbo veg. Not only did it halt the problem, but those plants produced the more amazing, gigantic and bug-free peppers we’d ever grown. Also repeated the second year with similar results.
I would also say nope to the placebo arguments. Also, having used it with wonderful results on all my babies, same.

Thank you Joette for all your work getting this information out to the world. I have learned so much from you in the last couple years and have treated, with great results, my young family of eight children.

  6. Dolly says:

I’ve successfully treated plants a number of times. I often give Arnica after I prune my trees and berries. I’ve treated strawberries for blight with Arsenicum and Thuja and fended off fruit blight with the same on my peaches. Carbo veg has turned sickly watermelon plants into bountiful producers two years in a row for me! It seems to help the plant uptake water more effectively. Thanks Joette for sharing your knowledge!

  7. Betsy in MN says:

I love Homeopathy for plants. We had a plant at work that a coworker was going to throw away because it looked dead. I took it and trimmed all the leaves off and started watering it with Bioplasma, because I had the bottle in my desk drawer. Lo and behold, the plant started sending out new, beautifully shiny leaves. Homeopathy is wonderful!

  8. Mary D says:

Perfect timing! I was just recently wondering about homeopathy for plants.

  9. Jan says:

SO so thrilled to learn of this!! And please pretty please – because there’s two trees here that are needing help – how do you arrive at the best dosage of these things for them??? Trees vs plants?? Please please share a bit on that (do I use the whole bottle of Arnica for a tree and half for a plant? – etc??) Thanks so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Use the number of pills that comprise a dose according to the print on the bottle no matter the size of the plant, the human, the cow, the bird.

  10. Nick says:

    Hey Joette,

With the Boiron tubes of pellets, is taking one pellet the same as taking five in terms of a dose?

I read somewhere that it doesnt matter if you take one or five in a dose. So essentially a tube will last a long time if taking one pellet twice a day versus taking five twice a day.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I used to believe that but over the years I’ve found that the number of pills really matters.
So I follow the directions printed on the side of the bottle.
