I Was an Itchy Little Girl

I was miserable

I was an itchy baby and little girl: Eczema.

I caught every throat, ear and eye infection known to little kids: Strep, otitis media, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis.

I was a sickly teen: Chronic GI pain, gut dysbiosis, antibiotic dependency.

I was a fatigued, breathless young adult: Chronic fatigue, asthma.

My allergies weren't merely an inconvenience like many assume them to be.

No. They were a lifestyle. They disrupted every aspect of my existence.

And they did so for decades.

Last week in this blog, I wrote about how Nux vomica 200 (Apply the discount coupon code “Joette” at check-out for an additional 20% off!helped get me started on the road to recovery from my lifelong allergies, food intolerances and chemical sensitivities. But I want to share more…

When allergies are all-consuming, they are often best met with a homeopathic medicine that represents not just how the outside world has made an impression (too many meds, pesticides, foods, etc.), but also how the organism was made.

In that case, allow me to start at the beginning. I believe that in that (blessed) moment when the sperm meets the egg, the DNA is transferred and made into a human.

Excuse me if that doesn’t suit your thinking, but it is my strongly held opinion as a Catholic and homeopath that at this very moment, everything the mother and the father have to offer creates a whole new life.

Homeopathic literature is replete with the ultimate explanation of how DNA is affected by what each parent brings to the table. It's called the Theory of Miasms and is based on Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s treatise on the subject, The Chronic Diseases, which was published in1828.

The subject of miasms and chronic disease (allergies, for example) is one that could set you studying in fascination for many years.

Here it is in a nutshell:

Dr. Hahnemann found that chronic diseases arise from a deep inner susceptibility that he called miasm and that it was related to specific, often contagious diseases that the parents, grandparents and even further back were exposed to or overtly contracted.

When assessing a case to determine the acute reaction in an effort to choose the proper homeopathic for its presentation (such as Ant crud 6 for eczema), it is as important to truly understand and unearth the essence of the person’s suffering. A classically trained homeopath is compelled to look to the miasm.

The miasm that most closely described me was Tubercular Miasm. The “picture” of this miasm is precisely what I presented from the moment I was born. There are a number of homeopathics that can be used to help uproot this DNA taint, but the one that hit the jackpot for me was a remedy that also happens to bear the name of the miasm itself: Tuberculinum bovinum. It is one of the main medicines in the category called the Tubercular Miasm.

Once I began studying homeopathy in greater depth, it became evident that I must, at some point, take this medicine.

Here’s how I did it:

I took Tuberculinum bovinum 200C one dose, for one day only, every month for several months.

And oh, what a difference it made in me!

Wool and chocolate and wheat and dairy and barometric changes and even some of my chemical sensitivities softened.

That was about 27 years ago, and it changed me from being a “person suffering from a serious health condition” to someone who could live a somewhat normal life.

I no longer have a need for Nux vomica (as discussed in last week’s blog because the bulk of my old allergic state has melted away, but I count on this monumental miasmatic medicine to keep any mild returning evidence of my family miasm at bay.

As such, I generally take Tuberculinum bovinum 200C (one dose only) around my birthday and half birthday every year now and have done so for decades.

Please don’t assume that because you or your loved ones suffer from allergies all you need to take is Tuberculinum to be cured. It’s a bit more involved than that.

In fact, I’m sure my colleagues might criticize me for even thinking that I could teach such a complex subject as this in this forum, but I love bucking the system…even the one I hold so dearly. I want to distill the complex into the simpler, every day, so that families can successfully become enabled themselves.

If this intrigues you (don’t get me started on how much this subject excites me) and allergies are your middle name, you might just be interested in learning how your family miasms have affected your health and what you can do about it.

I will be spending a good amount of time on this subject in my upcoming online course Allergic!?

If this subject doesn’t resonate with you right now, no worries! Don’t go away. I’m concentrating on allergies for a while because I’m spending so much time writing and refining this next course on them. But I promise, I'll get off this topic soon!

Just humor me for now, since this is all I’ve been thinking of lately.
Meanwhile, with fall coming into play and the inevitable acute sufferings of ragweed allergies sure to follow, check out this simple combination remedy by Boiron.

I just remembered I did another video for Boiron specifically titled Allergies and it's here on my YouTube Channel.

I hope it helps you and your family.

If you have allergies, remember that modern medicine has written you off. The CDC itself will tell you: “There is no cure for allergies. Strict avoidance of the allergen is the only way to prevent a reaction.” I lived decades living in a bubble, dealing with my allergies. Things improved when I stopped taking prescription drugs and changed my diet, but I was not cured. So I kept searching until I found the thing that changed my life forever: homeopathy. Want to learn the same homeopathic steps I took to clear myself of allergies? Learn them today with my newest course: Allergic: http://allergies.joettecalabrese.com/allergic/ and download a free infographic, and start learning what remedies could help uproot your allergies.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Such a great blog article! And so timely – – just a couple of days ago, another mom told me that her daughter is taking the remedy Psorinum for her “constitutional” (as you described above). The mom just learned that Psorinum is prepared from the blisters of scabies infected skin. She was stunned because she had not remembered to tell their homeopath that she (the mother) had had scabies as an older teenager, and here her daughter has been benefitting from this particular remedy for a year now. Homeopathy is amazing!

  2. Kim says:

Thanks for this article! I love that you are teaching about miasms. I find it fascinating. I think everyone interested in homeopathy should read rajan sankarans books. My homeopath in Washington sent me home with his books. I learned a lot. Miasms are difficult to learn but truly helpful!

  3. Martha says:

I LOVE this article! With winter approaching within a few months, would it be wise for those who have “inherited” chronic respiratory ailments such as bronchitis, croup, pneumonia, etc. to take a dose of Tuberculinum once a month during the winter to strengthen the person’s vital force? Is there a difference between Tuberculinum Bovine and Tuberculinum Koch since Helios in London carries both of these nosodes.

  4. Elaine, Mountain View says:

Would love to learn more about miasms! Thank you, Joette, for today’s article. Would you consider teaching a course on miasms?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Thanks for the suggestion. Generally, I like to teach to a specific condition or set of ailments because that’s what most families are seeking. But I’ll consider it.

      1. Staci says:

I would love to take a course on Miasms with your specific approach to homeopathy, as intriguing as it is, it seems a bit difficult to apply as a mom to the chronic conditions I need to take on for my family.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t teach courses on miasms because its a colossal waste of a mother’s time. Instead, the miasms are automatically represented in the protocols that I teach. And should you not know this, I specifically teach mothers and grandmothers how to treat chronic conditions in my courses. THat’s my specialty.

  5. Cathy says:

Fascinating subject..I would love to learn more.

  6. Suzie says:

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Just wanted to let you know that the “check out this simple combination remedy by Boiron. ” link does not work.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Thanks for the heads-up. Checking into it now.

  7. sharon says:

I’m curious if you explored whether you had the Psora Miasm as it’s one of the “base” miasms and has itching is it’s primary symptoms. Do you have any advise for those of us with the psora miasm?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, Psora fits on many levels, but Tubercular is more fined tuned for those with respiratory and ear infections. Also, I didn’t go into the psychology (mentals)of Tuberculinum, but my personal picture from a classical standpoint fits Tuberculinum more closely. As always, its an interesting differentiation.

  8. Kimberley Colangelo says:

Thank you for another wonderful and informative article Joette! In reference to the discussion on Miasm, I to would be interested in learning further about this fascinating area of Homeopathy, should you decide to offer a course.

  9. Stephanie Vargo says:

I have listened to the Q&A webinar for the Allergic Course. I know that many of the allergy symptoms discussed can also relate to animals so this information will be useful for our pets. Will you be covering any Miasms that are specific to pets? In particular, the Rabies Miasm is one of the worst to deal with. It would be extremely helpful if this is included. My pet has very bizarre allergies which we have been struggling with since the Rabies vaccine including allergies to extreme heat and changes in the weather (ex: summer to fall) that manifest as ear infections and skin infections. (I have signed up for the course).

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Ill not be covering the rabies miasm in “Allergic?!” course.

      Pls read http://joettecalabrese.com/busters-blog/buster-the-bad-office-dog-whats-in-a-name/.

      It may answer your question.

  10. Gaylene says:

so if someone fits the tuberculinum as far as the materia medica where nothing seems to work, even homeopathically, would it be a good idea to try tuberculinum 200c? I think it sounds a little intimidating because of the name. Do you have to worry about possible problems from the tuberculinum 200c? Maybe a better way to say it is, if you fit some of the descriptors can it hurt you to try taking it once a month to see if things start to improve so other remedies can begin working?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Your question is a good one, but too involved to answer in this setting. I will be covering this in my upcoming course “Allergic!”, should you be interested.

  11. Emily Hobbs says:

Is there an order of operations for what symptoms to tackle first? Would you go looking for your miasm at the start of your healing journey if you could do it over again? Or do you think it is better to start clearing your acute symptoms, such as dairy intolerance first? I’m thinking that miasm goes well beyond Homeopathy 101, but it is super intriguing and sounds like we won’t be our best selves carting around our ancestral baggage. Thanks so much! Learning a lot!

  12. kim says:

i have scratched ever since i was a little girl, my mom used to make me wear socks on my hands to bed. I just feel itchy all the time.. My mom said I had chicken pox three times and I was highly suseptable to getting poison ivy every year. I just cant leave a mark alone. I seem to want to itch the mark off and make it smooth.. my one daughter developed this same problem as an older teenager.. she and I have the scars now. I seem to have problems after eating wheat and dairy, cannot wear wool, sensitive to certain strong smells like strong perfume. would tuberculinum 200c be a good remedy to try for this?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

What you’ve written here is some of your history. Unless there is a condition presenting at present, we don’t like to use only health history to determine the medicine.

      1. kim says:

the conditions that have been present as long as the itching has been grinding knees, like they sound crackly when they bend, some of my kids have inherited this too, I now have (at 52) severe arthrits in different parts of my body and bone spurs in my neck, I am into week one of banjeris method with the symphtum and rhus tox for the arthritis, i have other symptoms but didnt know if these conditions would be linked to an itching problem for a protocol.

  13. Hira Ammar says:

Do you treat children too? My 2.5 year old has every food allergy, over 30 foods and environmental on top of that. He was on Zyrtec for a year because of eczema and itching. Started going to a homeopath in U.S and he prescribed constitution remedy calc carb 30c, it worked great in the beginning but seems to be taken more often now. My son started talking after we started him on calc carb and took him off Zyrtec, he also has density issues with cleanliness and feeding is very hard. He already has few 9400109699937166223660 foods and ok top of that very difficult to feed refused everything and never tries new things. Thanks

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

A significant number of my cases are of children with precisely the condition you describe.

      1. Hira Ammar says:

What is the way to set up an appointment and what are the charges? Thanks

  14. Matt says:

Have you had any success using nat phos 6x for allergies/sensitivities & eczema? From my research, it seems to be indicated for both, especially itchy eczema primarily on the ankles & feet. Also, it seems easier to administer doses to children/infants in liquid form. Is it okay to mix 1-2 pellets of a remedy or a couple remedies in say, 4 oz water & give 1 tsp as a dose each time? How long does this preparation last before needing to make a fresh batch, 48 hours? Does it need to be refrigerated or just leave at room temperature? And why does it seem (from my reading) that the syringe or dropper cannot just be washed but to be reused requires sterilization after each remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Matt, I think you need to take a course to help flesh out your questions more fully.

  15. Tasha says:

Can tuberculinum uproot seasonal pollen allergies too? In your above article, tuberculinum helped with your reactions to wool, food, barometric changes & chemicals, but there is no mention if it can act on pollen allergies/hay fever too. I know you’ve written about calc carb on other posts for hay fever, but if a person clearly fits the tubercular description much better, should that person use tuberculinum to uproot the seasonal allergies, or would that person still need calc carb? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you hope to get the entire allergic protocol clear I urge you to consider taking my course “Allergic!”. One medicine is not likely to complete the work I take students step by step on how to uproot such conditions by using not only what is causing the allergy but how it presents in seemingly unrelated ways.

  16. Mary says:

I read a book on miasms in the 1980’s , I wondered at the time about my grandmother, a nurse, who died of TB. Also my mother, who also had TB as a child. Wondering if this miasms was the reason for my constant ear infections as a child. I was able to purchase Tuberculinum but not knowing much about homeopathy I ordered a deep acting one. As a matter of fact I still have it! I know I used it some, but don’t remember the results. I don’t know why I went through a Deep Acting phase…in a learning phase I guess. I’m 74 and still learning, thank you Joette!

  17. Petra says:

After listening to your Monday class about Tuberculinum I think I need to try that medicine. It fits so many of my symptoms.
I was vaccinated as a baby for Tuberculosis. Is that something to worry about?
Thank you for all the great info you give so freely.

  18. Mary says:

This is a great article, thank you. But why use Tuberculinum Bovista remedy instead of Tuberculinum remedy? Boiron told me Tuberculinum is made from tuberculosis bacteria that affects humans whereas Tuberculinum Bovista is made from bacteria that affects bovines.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

There are dozens of medicines that can be considered. This is one option.

  19. Mary says:

I recently stopped using topical steroids for my psoriasis/dermatitis and started the banerji protocol of Hepar Sulph 200, Arsenicum Album 200 for treatment. However I just read in a new banerji book I purchased, that Tub. 200 liquid form once a week is also included in the first line protocol for the issue i am treating. Once a week seems like so much for such an in-depth remedy as Tub. What are your thoughts?
