“Toughen up! You’re too thin-skinned!”
Have you ever heard that before? Well, maybe we can try to thicken our “psychological” skin with a bit of introspection. But what do we do when our physical skin has become too thin?
As adults age, the skin thickness and elasticity diminish as the body loses hyaluronic acid and collagen. This leaves the largest organ — skin — susceptible to tears, ecchymosis, pressure ulcers, deep dissecting hematomas, and slow-healing wounds. In short, our skin loses its ability to fend off mechanical injury.
The medical community only recently established a name for this natural occurrence — dermatoporosis. (I’d say that’s more than a 25-cent word! Adjusted for inflation, it seems like it’s worth at least 50 cents!)
What does it mean? Well, they borrowed from the term “osteoporosis,” which we all know means a weakness in bones, to imply a similar weakness in skin: dermato (skin) joined with porosis (porous).
Until 2007, when the term was created, this type of skin degeneration was often overlooked as merely a cosmetic issue. But now, it’s generally accepted that weakened skin can eventually lead to problems requiring treatment.
And while conventional medical practitioners readily admit that corticosteroid overuse can hasten the onset of dermatoporosis, they are ready and eager with yet more synthetic treatments! But who knows what eventual conditions those new medications may cause!
(Here’s an interesting PubMed article on the topic, Chronic Skin Fragility of Aging, that explains more.)
But, WE have homeopathy!
If pathology arises from the natural process of aging skin, the Practical Homeopath may turn to the cell salt Silicea 3 or 6, twice a day. Why? Silicea is specific to the skin — or skin that is too thin, breaks easily or doesn’t heal fast enough.
As stated in “The Biochemical Handbook: How to Get Well and Keep Fit With Biochemic Tissue Salts” by J. B. Chapman and Edward L. Perry, Silicea “restores the activity of the skin … it can often initiate the healing process.”
That sounds like just what's needed when aging skin becomes too fragile. But aging skin isn’t yearning for the treatments the PubMed article highlighted: synthetic topical creams (such as Tretinoin or AHAs) or estrogen hormone replacement therapy.
Eee-you.
Instead, we look for treatments that are natural and polite. Luckily, the article did mention the therapeutic benefit of an improved diet containing ample animal proteins. (Score yet another point for Weston A. Price!)
Had the researchers consulted a homeopathic repertory for this condition. They would have found a demonstrable improvement in thinning, fragile skin by following the simple regimen of Silicea 3 or 6, twice daily over a period of time.
Now, some people are still concerned about using Silicea because of its ability to press out sharp foreign objects from the skin.
That should not be of significant concern, but I will go into this concept more with my Mighty Members later in the week. So, if you want to learn more, please join us!
Until next time, pass on the good news of homeopathy!
Warmly,
P.S. It’s not only additional articles (such as the one I mentioned in the article above) that my Mighty Members receive. They also have access to exclusive videos I create just for them and a discussion group safely removed from the censoring eyes of Facebook.
Speaking of which, my Mighty Members have their own private portal to watch my Facebook Live presentations every Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern — without having a Facebook account! Now, that’s a significant benefit, wouldn’t you say?
And annual subscribers will receive my Remedy Reference Guides — a downloadable 3-volume collection of all my blog posts from 2013 through 2021!

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Kill two birds with one stone… Silica binds with aluminum…great applications in Alzheimer’s! (DR. Bill McGraw’s work)
Would calc fluor 12x help too? And can it be taken together with the silica?
Timely article, Joette, Thank you! Been very curious about this condition with many people while not finding common sense answers. Silicea 3X or 6x. Found Silicea 3x at Bee Healthy homeopathic products (Virginia). btw, they also carry gunpowder 3x and other cell salts in low potencies. cell salts come in tituration tablets of 900 tablets (90gm) and products like gunpowder and other combos come in 25gm bottles (about 100 tablets as they are larger).
Trituration not Tituration
Silica is a great remedy, but the problem is that I can’t give it to my mom who had two hip surgeries with implants. I am worried it would expel the implants.
I have a hip replacement and 2 teeth implants- Hopefully, it won’t kick them out. So far so good, but it’s only been a week.
I’d love to know the source of such information.
Who is telling the world that Silica pushes our implants and other such appliances?
I had 2 crowns come off after taking Silica 30c. One the glue was still on the crown not the tooth. The dentist said he had never seen anything like it.
Will this help ‘creepy’ skin issues under the arms?? Thanks
Will the Silica also address brown spots perhaps?
When you say “taken for a period of time”, how long should someone expect to take Silicea 3 or 6 to see a difference in skin quality?
For some, there’s a change in weeks. In others months.
Perfect timing and LOVE LOVE the comments !! A friend just asked last week what to do for her dad who was put on blood thinners and now looking very bruised. She thought arnica creme as long as skin not broken. Great to know about Bee Healthy L.L. as I tried to get gunpowder in 3x via Helios and they don’t have it. I am also wondering about crepey skin however I believe that has to do with elasticity.
Is It ok to take with breast implants such a mistake can not afford to remove thankyou
DEAR JOETTE. IS IT OK TO TAKE SIL 6 OR3 IF U HV TEETH FILLINGS AND LENS AFTER CATARACT DURGERY.
I have no experience with such problems while using Silica. However, a few people have mentioned problems that they attribute to Silica in regards to fillings released from teeth. This gives me pause to consider the possibility of such an event.
Understanding the action of Silica counteracts such yet, it’s probably prudent to consider.
Hi Joette, my Mum had a stent in her leg last year, so far I have avoided Silica like the plague incase I dislodge the stent. Is it possible that Silica could move the stent, it will be well and trully fixed in place now surely its not going to have the ability to move a stent. pps thanks Joette you have helped Mum and I a lot recently.
I am going to try this for my husband. He is 77 years old and in excellent health, but his skin is thin and he is slow healing from scratches, etc. He still jogs every day and takes no meds! Hope this helps and I am going to try it for my thinning skin as well. Any advice is welcomed!
I would love to try Silica as suggested above, but I have a metal plate from breaking my leg and I am afraid.
Is it any evidence that Silica doesn’t remove deep-seated metals from the body?
Even heart stunts may get affected with silicea
Pls share where you’ve found this data.
I’m genuinely interested.
Homeopathic Doctor M. Imran relates that 99% of patients in his practice have a problem with taking silicea if they have had cataract lens replacement. The lens is disturbed. One of his friends had cataract surgery and took 2-3 doses of silicea 6x and called him in the middle of the night saying he couldn’t see. Dr Imran told him to go to the ER ASAP. He told this story during a Zoom lecture on 9-10-2023. Also he further stated to avoid taking during pregnancy and to avoid after any surgery: eye surgery, rod placement in body, deep stitching inside body. In a different lecture on 9-17-23 on Vitiligo, he suggested using Bella, Hepar Sulph, or Echinacea instead of Silicea. He cautioned again to avoid Silicea if patient has had lens replacement surgery.
Indeed, the wrong remedy and frequency can cause disturbances.
