When you open most homeopathic remedy kits, the very first remedy in the box is usually Aconitum Napellus 200C, or Aconite for short.
It is such an easy remedy to learn that those who know very little about homeopathic remedies will at least know their Aconite.
I wasn't surprised when a student told me about how her husband — who devotes little to no time to learning remedies — knows how and when to use Aconite.
“I think I'm coming down with something,” he suddenly announced after feeling great during an otherwise uneventful day,
Yes, he's probably right. The remedy probably is Aconite.
Let me tell you why …
Two years ago, I found myself sitting in the Calcutta airport waiting for a flight when I had the pleasure of meeting a nun from Mother Teresa's order, The Sisters of Charity. I will refer to her as Sister Bernadette throughout this post for the sake of her privacy, though I simply felt the need to share this information with all of you.
We exchanged pleasantries and during our conversation, I shared that I am a practitioner and educator of homeopathy. Happily, since our chance meeting, Sister Bernadette and I have remained in contact via snail mail, as she has continued to seek my help for her and some of her fellow sisters' ailments through the use of homeopathic remedies.
As a special treat to all of you, I am sharing our last exchange containing the list of conditions she has sought my help for, followed by my responses, in the hopes that others may benefit in the same way The Sisters of Charity have. (more…)
I was a presenter at the Weston Price Foundation Conference a few years ago, and as such, I was given a booth from which to sign my books and meet attendees. The table was loaded with my CDs, homeopathy kits and sample remedies. It’s not uncommon to have attendees hanging around my table two and three people deep.
It’s a blast! I meet folks with whom I’ve worked on Skype over the years, and I get to encounter the most interesting sorts from around the globe.
On Monday night, after three days of this, my husband, sons and I packed everything up to head home. That’s when I noticed that my Hyland’s Homeopathy Kit, which carries 29 remedies, had one remedy missing.

2:32 Medicines: The worst kind of pollution
7:52 Don’t rely on your doctors to tell you the harmful effects of medicines
11:05 Transitioning from conventional medicines to homeopathy
Today's podcast is about pollution, but not the first kind that comes to mind. Years ago, I was an anti-pesticide activist. I met with local hospitals and school boards in my community and got them to stop spraying dangerous pesticides on their lawns and school grounds. We are all too familiar with that kind of pollution, and the ability of grass roots activism to create positive change.
This podcast, I want to talk about one that may be much more important than the sprayed kind.
It actually might be the most vicious, as its overuse has become the number one killer in the U.S. today. Remarkably, we not only willingly accept this kind of pollution, we agree to it, so it’s not enforced like taxes. Instead, the public is convinced to respect it enough to pay for it! It’s even bold-facedly standing in your medicine cabinet every morning. (more…)
According to the American Diabetes Association, 13 million men in the United States have low testosterone levels, and among those men, 70 percent report experiencing erectile dysfunction, and 63 percent experience low sex drive. That’s a lot of unhappy men!
Such a delicate subject requires fine medicine. And as always, instead of merely treating the symptoms, homeopathy gets to the root of the problem.
My father calls the locale of these problems “ground zero.” Modern medicine discusses male health in terms of prostate hormone numbers and libido. Homeopathy likes to get a little more personal. (more…)
Vaginal yeast infection, also called candidiasis, is a common problem of women caused by the overgrowth of the fungus candida albicans. This fungus normally resides in the body but is kept under control by lactobacillus bacteria.
A healthy immune system will maintain a correct balance between the yeast and the bacteria, but if this balance is upset, the fungus can get out of hand. Some things suspected to contribute to the overgrowth of candida include the use of antibiotics, birth control pills and immune-suppressing drugs such as steroids; eating refined sugar and processed foods; or ingesting certain trigger foods, such as bread and baked goods, even honey and too much fruit. Ebola hemorrhagic fever is much in the news these days with reports of its spread in Africa and a scare that the virus may have traveled to Canada (fortunately the tests came out negative). While this type of disease may seem far away from us now, bioterrorism is always a threat in today’s world, and with the ease of travel, it would not be difficult for a disease like Ebola to spread.
Knowledge of how to handle these types of more exotic illnesses is always worth learning.
In the case of Ebola, no conventional treatment or vaccine is available. Fortunately for us, homeopathy has great renowned for its healing ability in epidemics. (more…)
