Mindful Homeopathy
Practical Protocols for Mental and Emotional Conditions

Anxiety…depression…bipolar…OCD…learning disorders…brain fog…PTSD…addictions…dementia…

Homeopathy has a history of uprooting these conditions.

These are my favorites that I guarantee you’ll use.

I created an infographic to give you hope that real, safe, efficacious alternatives to chemical drugs exist. Click here and read more.

This infographic contains some of my favorite remedies that I guarantee you’ll use.

Crayons are on sale for a quarter? Notebooks are only 50 cents? Whether you are ready for summer’s end or not, back to school is right around the corner!

Depending on your child, excited trips to the store are in your future or a sense of dread and panic is about to set in.

Back to school panic attach? Not in your childs health strategy!

Back to school panic attach? Not in your child's health strategy!

Children thrive on routine, and the thoughts of a new school, new teachers or a new schedule can often evoke anxious feelings.

Talking with your child about the upcoming changes ahead of time may be helpful.

Taking a test drive to school, walking through the building to see the new classroom or meeting the teacher before school begins may ease the transition.

However, for some children, this is not enough, and symptoms may show up on a physical as well as emotional level.

My nephew’s panic attack

When my nephew was about to start the first grade at a new school, he began having night terrors.

He would call out in his sleep, dreaming his bedroom was a classroom. He would be up for hours crying and screaming and complaining of pains.

During the day he would be fine and have no emotional or physical issues. By the third night, he was given the remedy Arsenicum Album 30 before bed and didn’t wake up once that night.

He was able to return to school well-rested and free of anxiety for school the next day.

Common remedies for panic

Homeopathic remedies are often chosen specific to the symptoms of the person in need, so while Arsenicum album worked for one child, another may need something different. Here are a few of the more common anxiety remedies:

Gelsemium 30

Gelsemium is indicated when a child becomes cowardly and weak and feels the task at hand is insurmountable. This remedy is popular for people who become paralyzed with fear before giving a talk or taking an exam. They may feel a physical and mental heaviness about them. The child may tremble and stutter, unable to collect his thoughts.

Argentum nitricum 30

Another common remedy for anticipatory fears is Argentum nitricum 30C.
The child may tremble with nervous energy and will likely have diarrhea before the event.

Anxious thoughts torment them, and they are extremely fidgety and may walk around quickly to calm themselves. Time seems to move at a snail’s pace. They hate to be kept waiting and lack confidence in their ability to do well. The child is better with company and hates to be alone.

Aconitum 30

A child needing Aconitum napellus 30C will look anxious, stare with glassy eyes and appear in a state of shock. They will be very distressed and inconsolable. They are restless and cannot sit still. This is a popular remedy for panic attacks when the heart is pounding, the person feels as if not enough air is coming in, and they feel faint.

Lycopodium clavatum 30

This remedy is indicated when the child has a fear of failure or looking foolish. The child dreads public speaking, taking tests or new things in general. This child will over-prepare in nervous anticipation. When the time comes to perform, they do an amazing job, in spite of their anxiety leading up to the event.

Arsenicum album 30C

The child will be pale and anxious, weak and exhausted. They may fear being alone and are more restless and anxious than those needing other remedies. An interesting note about Arsenicum children is that they want to be in a tidy environment and feel better in it.

Calcarea phosphorica 30

This is a common remedy when your child is reluctant to go to school. They may not admit there are problems with school, but they happen to have an ailment that will keep them home such as a stomach ache or headache. They have no “get up and go” and seem lifeless. Sighing a lot when talking and restlessness with complaints and grumbling are often seen with a need for this remedy. Insomnia may accompany this remedy, with difficulty waking in the morning.

My favorite when panic symptoms are intense:
Ignatia 30

Having said all of this, my favorite remedy, should one be in doubt or if the above remedies don’t help, is Ignatia 30. When given 2-3 times per day when the symptoms are intense, then less frequently as the child improves, Ignatia has been one of my best go-to methods for my own family.

Even for the calmest and most outgoing students, returning to school is an adjustment. Have your homeopathy arsenal at arm’s length, determine the remedy, administer and sit back. Then bear in mind, moms can cure their families themselves with safe, efficacious and inexpensive homeopathy.

You’re a homeopathic mom!

We didn't forget you, Teachers; here is some help for you!

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  1. As a homeschool parent, we don’t have much anxiety around back to school, but I love the post on teacher remedies!! 🙂

Anxiety does appear in other areas of life though, so I will be pinning this post for future reference. Thanks!!

  2. Liz says:

Both Arsenicum and Ignatia have been magical for calming anxiety in myself. What a gift to give an anxious child!

  3. Beth L. says:

Very good blog & very timely…wrote it down and will keep it handy for future reference. Thank you.

  4. WHAT CAN BE USED FOR FOCUSING IN SCHOOL–MY GRANDSON IS

    1. Excuse my bias, but i believe that school’s expectations for boys is often unreasonable because boys don’t behave like good girls. Having gotten this off my chest, allow me to add that a lack of focus is often related to food intollerances, which can be related to previous or present drug regimens. that’s where i’d begin with this situation.

Having said this, the Banerji Protocol for simple attention issues is Hyos 6.

  6. Karuna says:

How might this apply (for adults or children)to anxiety related to an upcoming trip, and/or panic during turbulence on an airplane flight?

    1. The same applies for adults, animals, newborns, the elderly. How lovely is that?!

  7. Renee Denlinger says:

Your timing for your posts are always perfect!
I tried cell salts (nervous tension combo) yesterday for my son before a big soccer game. He gets so nervous. I told him he has nothing to worry about that he is a fine player. After giving him the remedy, his mental attitude seemed much better, but he didn’t play such a good game (in his eyes).
I always enjoy watching! I wonder if it’s possible that it can calm you down too much before playing in sports?

    1. Remedies are not like drugs, in that they don’t force the issue. instead, they gently stimulate the body’s ability naturally to right itself. So the answer is no, they will not cause drowsiness, etc.

  8. Jan says:

I get jittery and anxious when returning to school, and it is good to know that Homeopathy can relieve “there-is-nothing-I-can-do” feelings.
    Great post!

  9. Laura says:

Thank you, I feel so empowered with this knowledge to help my family!

  10. Kathy says:

I had my own back to school anxiety, as I am homeschooling my first grader for the first time. 3 doses of the Argentum Nitricum have all but taken care of it. When I get the right remedy I just feel an sense of inner peace. Thanks so much! When I “grow up” I want to be more like Joette.

  11. Hannah says:

What a wonderful article. I know at times my children have anxiety about school and complain about going. I am excited to try a couple of these remedies.

I have a 3 year old who wakes up every single night to come into our room. I finally just made a little bed on the floor for him so my husband and I aren’t so disturbed. What would you recommend giving him to help him stay asleep all night?

    🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I believe I have an article on that subject on the blog. Put “insomnia” in the subject bar.

    2. Christy Clark says:

Missing and wanting to sleep in your parents’ bed is normal. You and your husband should allow him to sleep with you guys. That’s all he wants to calm his normally anxious toddler sleeping alone-ness. My 7, 4, and 1 year old all sleep with my husband and I and I know it is the best thing for them to sleep with us as long as they want. You should google,”the benefits of cosleeping.” COSLEEPING ROCKS!

  12. girlygirl says:

if a child has done something wrong at school and fears getting caught or punished and results in nervous trembling diarrhea, anticipation nausea and loss of appetite, and constant anxiety about this not wanting others to find out…which remedies could help this? from the above descriptions I cant really figure it out. Thanks

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Read my blog article titled “A Salute to Ignatia”. You might find that either Ignatia or Gelsemium (in this article) will likely fit the condition.

  13. Angie says:

Thank you very much for this incredible information! My question is on the potency of Ignatia – I believe this is the remedy my daughter needs after reading nearly everything you have posted on the blog about this remedy. She had something happen in school to her last year and has so much anxiety it will happen again, she has not been the same in school or at home because of the anxiety. This post says Ignatia 30 2-3 times a day, but most other of your posts say Ignatia 200 twice a day. I did see your post saying you could start with 30 and then move to 200 if 30 wasn’t working… would that be your current recommendation? I just ask because most everything else says to use the 200 potency.

And please forgive me as I am new to this (I plan on taking either GGBG or getting together a study group so I can learn more!), but do I pick 2-3 times a day when it’s convenient for the remedy, or do I give this when the anxiety strikes?

Thank you so much, I appreciate all you do!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Either potency will likely act if its the right remedy choice. No matter the potency, no more than 3 times in a day and as always, stopped once it fully acts.

      1. avaughters says:

        Perfect, thank you!

  14. Rose Gorton says:

Argentum nitricum 30 works for my son every time he starts licking his lips, but that has now become daily to have to give him arg nit up to 4 times per day. Is there a better way. It works to help slow down the nervous licking. Would Argen nit 200 2D be a better option until we can get this under control and resolve it?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

As long as a homeopathic acts, its best to stay with it. If it stops acting, its time to move to another that may be more appropriate, or a higher potency, less frequently. Generally speaking, I like a 200, twice daily for when a 30 doesn’t complete.

  15. Shakhnoz says:

What would be the best choice for a 6year old girl, who experiences anxiety as soon as mum is out of sight(could be even in the bathroom)? She will cry and impossible to console if mum needs to be out of sight. During pregnancy after falling, mum thought baby died and was anxious abt it (did child absorb this feeling)?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Interesting association but unnecessary for choosing a homeopathic. What you’re describing sounds like panic, so carefully read each of the medicines that I discuss and it will become clear to you.

  16. Mary Herman says:

Do you have an article for adults facing anxiety and panic? My husband let his drivers license expire and now has to take the written and driving test. He is so anxious that he hid the fact from me that his license had expired. He is a good driver but this fear is immobilizing him. Help! Please…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Mary, I’m delighted that you use the blog, but I think its time that you start or join a study group so that your fundamental questions will be answered more fully. Consider going to the front page of this site, click on Quick Start Guide and follow through to the study group, “Gateway to Homeopathy”. Its in these inexpensive classes that you’ll learn basics such as, there is no difference between a child and an adult when it comes to remedy selection. I think you’ll find the method of having a book and others to learn with, quite satisfying.

      1. Joette, your response filled me with anxiety and fear. I don’t get out of the house and I don’t interact with people unless I have too. I haven’t joined a class or even set up a consultation with you because of fear. Fear and anxiety rule my life and keep me isolated.

From reading your blogs I know it is the same potency whatever the age. I know that acute or chronic can determine the potency and length of time to take chosen protocol. I know I can learn so much much from you, I already do from your blogs. My repertoire by boricke looks like a well used Bible, with highlights and hand written notes in the margin, I’ve had it since 1985. I own several homeopathic books. But Banerji protocol is a new way of thinking…undoing much of what I already know.

My protocols for hypothyroidism and bad gut both have Lycopodium 200, I see from this article that my fear and anxiety is also Lycopodium. I am hoping that this longstanding problem will be uprooted, I am tired of isolating myself. While the Lycopodium is doing its thing I’ll just hang around your blogs awhile longer if you don’t mind. By the way my husband read your blog and said he is Gels. Thanks, Mary

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Mary, I’m so sorry you suffer anxiety. I wish you God-speed in finding your answer.

I don’t mind in the least that you hang around but you might find a great deal more information specific to how I teach via my courses, which, by the way, don’t require anyone to leave their home nor actually meet with others. Instead, they’re online and no one needs to even see or hear students.
You also might want to purchase The Banerji Protocol book and be sure to study the 1st 28 pages.

          1. Mary Herman says:

Thank you Joette, I will consider all these things, and I wiil keep hanging around. Love what you do. Will also watch for any books you write!

  17. Smbtv says:

One of the remedies in the BP protocol for manic depression is hyoscyamus 6 for the manic phase. I’m wondering if when the symptoms of this mania are intense, if it can be used more frequently because it’s in the acute phase? Sort of how taking hepar Sulph 200c twice daily for chronic strep is used every three hours when the symptoms come on with gusto. Lachesis also fits very well, and we are using that every 3 days as well to uproot the condition. hoping you can clarify. Aconite is acting wonderfully for the iambic attacks that are also occurring. Thanks!!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you’re asking whether Hyos 6 may be used twice daily during an acute state, I have used it often in this manner and have seen success.

      1. Smbtv says:

We’ve been using it twice daily for about a week now, but symptoms are still pretty intense and wondered if it should be used more than twice per day during the acute?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve not used Hyos 6 more than twice daily.

  18. Pat says:

Joette, I’m quite nervous about having my first tooth extracted tomorrow with only local anesthetic and having a hole in my mouth. I have on hand Ignatia 200 which I take for depression and anxiety but don’t have Ignatia 30 so how do I use the 30 instead for this fear of my appointment? Thanks, Pat

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I actually prefer Ignatia 200 to 30 for anxiety.

  19. Amy says:

I have an 8 year old with PTSD about school. He had a traumatic kindergarten experience and we homeschooled him for 1 1/2 years. He starts a new school tomorrow and his anxiety is so high – he is agitated and aggressive and doesn’t want to talk about it, saying “I am not going to school and you can’t make me.” He was diagnosed with PANS – and we stopped all drug and a supplement protocol and am starting down the road of homeopathy and body coding for his healing. I am thinking that Ignatia would be the best place to start…thoughts?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Ignatia is certainly a good possibility, but PANDAS requires more study of homeopathy. I covered it in my course, Mindful Homeopathy. The live course was presented a few months ago and the recorded version will be available, should you be interested within a month or so. Feel free to stay in touch with my office to learn more.

  20. Cristina says:

My 9-year old son deals with anxiety and fear, not paralyzing but still very present in his life. He occasionally develops tics like clearing his throat constantly or shrugging his shoulders. Would argentum nitricum 30 be a good fit? Thank you for all the information you put out in your blogs. Looking forward to the Mindful Homeopathy recorded course!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t give personal advice on this forum but I’ll tell you how to go about choosing. Read each of the choices I list. With the few that seem to fit most closely (and there should be more than 2 or 3) go to your materia medica and read more fully on each one. This is how a homeopath works. She knows her medicines and their action but if she doesn’t, she reads up on them for clarity and learns to differentiate.

      Good luck.

  21. B.Murr says:

    Joette~

This is my first time commenting. I have been using homeopathy for about a year and a half and I have been reading your blog voraciously for several months now. I am a Mom to 6 children (we homeschool) and a blessed wife. My husband has struggled with major anxiety for several years. It has often been majorly debilitating. Today I read this post and I was pretty sure which remedy my husband needed but I had him read it just so I could verify. I was correct. He needed Gelsemium (he was presenting with symptoms). I left the room after I gave it to him but returned in a few minutes. I could clearly see a distinct difference in his facial expression. It had eased considerably. He continued to improve as time went on. Two hours after giving that dose of gelsemium he reports to me “I feel about the best I have ever felt.” That is an amazing statement, almost unbelievable. I just thank God for this little remedy (what a gift!!!) and for homeopathy that has been so helpful to us in many other ways as well and for leading me to read your website. I pretty much devour everything you write. Many thanks for making this available to us. I am so grateful. I hope to take a course someday.

  22. Stephannie says:

I suffer from anxiety all the time as a single mom of 3 young boys. I thought it was normal up until i had an episode of severe stage fright during a presentation in class. I always get nervous before speaking in front of people. This time was worse. My heart raced and pounded, I turned red, I couldn’t read my flash cards and I wanted to hide. I even had a headache afterwards.
I have another big test comming up. What do you reccomend

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m sorry, but I don’t make personal recommendations on this forum. I offer information for you to make your decision. Look for the remedy that includes anticipatory anxiety or panic.

  23. My daughter is 11 years old and her anxiety started in 4th grade. She can have insomnia sometimes. She gets anxious sometimes chest pain is accompined with this. She will have panic attacks.I know some of it has to be hormonal but what is a combo I can give her to help all those things. She really doesn’t want medication and neither do I. Hoping to handle this naturally

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Should you be interested, I cover this in great detail in my online course titled Mindful Homeopathy. However, you can learn plenty simply by reading my blogs using the key conditions that are most apparent.

  24. Lorna says:

Hi Joette, My daughter who is 4 years old started to stammer/stutter at age of 2.5 yrs and I haven’t seen it getting any better till date. I haven’t come across any remedies in your blog for this condition. Are there medicines in homeopathy that can help her? Thanks a lot.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

You might want to consider my online course titled Mindful Homeopathy. I fully cover such conditions. Having said that look at what preceded the condition such as a frightful event, antibiotics, etc.

      1. Lorna says:

        Thanks for your reply Joette.
My daughter’s front teeth started decaying by the time she was 1 yr old. She went through few hour long sessions (at 2 yrs of age) of dental treatment without sedation, that she dreaded and cried and rebelled throughout…although the dentist assured us she is not in pain. We decided to stop as we learnt that the new teeth will come out well at age 7 anyway. We regret taking her and putting her through it all.
She also had a round of antibiotics at 4 months.Yikes,I know now!
I notice she has mild allergies to certain foods, is gassy and is a fussy eater.
How can I help her…is it her gut that needs care first and will that take care of all other aspects ?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

We approach the areas that are in the most need 1st. Given that there’s a GI problem, it’s prudent to take care of that since the gut is often the seat of many conditions.
Should you be interested, my online course, titled Good Gut Bad GUt covers all of these GI concerns.
Also, listen to my podcast #114 about the mother who used my courses to treat her large family.

  25. Lorna says:

Thanks for your advise Joette.I love reading your blogs and watching FB live, they are loaded with great information for me to start learning Homeopathy. Will consider the courses.

  26. G says:

I struggle with anxiety and have had a hard time figuring out the best remedy. Im already on a weekly dose of ignatia 1M, aconite 1M, ars album. For instant anxiety prior to any medical testing or waking up by my heart racing it’s been difficult to find the right remedy. How many times should you try the remedies to decide if the are not working.
