No Flu Here in India, but Boy, It’s Big Back in the U.S.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick shout 'cause I'm being asked what to do for the flu that is plaguing the U.S.

I used to buy Influenzinum in a low potency for each year. Still not a bad idea, but here's what I do now, as well. It's a Banerji Protocol for influenza and has helped my family, students, and clients almost every time.

It is Rhus tox 30 alternating with Bryonia 30 every few hours one or the other.

Remember, the flu is different from a cold and usually assigns the person to bed with awful aches and pains, fever, weakness and other such discomforts.

And sometimes scary events.

But as always, there is more than one way to skin a cat. So remember Oscillococcinum every few hours as well. And if you purchase any of these directly from Boiron you'll get a 20% discount by using the discount code “Joette”.

Not sick? Have these on hand anyway. Remember, your homeopathics will be just as good next year … in fact 40 years from now!

Warmly,

P.S. It's yet another reason for you to own a kit and get your chips up on homeopathy!

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

The Banerji protocol you’ve written about previously for flu is in the combination of Aconitum and Byronia. Just wondering whether this is still a good combination for a flu that comes with a cough and when to consider using Rhus Tox, instead of Aconitum, with Byronia as mentioned here.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Bryonia with Aconitum is great for a cough whether accompanying flu or otherwise, while RT is often better when there are aches and pains. Read your materia medica, get the picture of each medicine in your mind and it will all make perfect sense.

Greetings from Cologne, Germany. For 4Months I have several Cases of Influenza in my Praxis. Aconitum has not helped in any case. Rhus-tox and Bryonia is a good combination ( has helped my father within one day a lot to improve) but I experience that often the C200 is nessecary! Sometimes Causticum or Phosphorus was required. Causticum is caused by that dry cold wind. Good Luck, Dr. Christoph

Yes, I remember that you’ve commented in the past and I always welcome your input. This is how we learn from each other. Stay well in your neck of the woods.

  3. JA says:

I recently bought your book on the flu and you mention the Influenzinum 30C preventative protocol. Do you still recommend that?

  4. kathrynsings says:

I practiced this protocol Rhus Tox 30 and Byronia 30 on my daughter last Thursday and it nipped her flu in the bud (actually she took one dose of Byronia and I let her sleep, determined to administer the next dose if she awoke) . She missed one day of school so I could keep an eye on her only. She was her typical bouncy self by morning.

  5. Karen says:

Thank you Joette! My son has also been hit with the flu bug. I’m curious though about the “Genus Epidemicus” – Is there a website somewhere that lists that each yr. of what remedy is working the best for the general population? I would like to learn more about that…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There would be no way that one would know each year in the future; only in the past. However, read the comment from the doctor who responded to this from Germany who offered his opinion on what has worked in Germany for him.

  6. Theresa says:

Help! Mine turned into a mean sinus infection(the kind where the gums and teeth even hurt) and neither of the protocols in the Banerji book have helped. Any suggestions?

    1. Theresa says:

      I’m trying Spigelia 30 & Belladonna3???

  7. Sara says:

Theresa, have you tried sanguinaria? I had the same thing a few days ago with gum and teeth hurting, I thought first it was a dental pain in the nerves but it began traveling up to the eye as well. Then I realized it was the beginning of a sinus infection. I took one dose of sanguinaria, followed by Aconitum and Byronia, and it was completely gone within a few hours!

    1. Theresa says:

Hi Sarah. Thank you for replying. Here comes a long answer. 🙂 Yes, I did try Sanguinaria 200/Bell 3(1st line in Banerji book)for a few days. They recommend the Bell 3 for acute pain, every 30 min. Next I tried Kali Bi 30 (2nd line in book)and Lycopodium 30 for a few days. Neither put a dent in it. I’ve also been doing saline nasal rinses, natural histamine blockers, high potency garlic…etc. Nothing seemed to alleviate the throbbing pain above the teeth and gumline!! Desperate, I resorted to Mucinex for a day and a half. That lessened the pain above the teeth and gums, but then brought on pain in the upper sinuses on the opposite side of the face, along with headaches and gut wrenching stomach aches! I anticipated mild side effects, but no thank you…I threw it away!!I knew I needed to return to looking for the right homeopathic remedy, so yesterday morning, I bought the Boiron Sinusalia(Bell 3, Sang 3, Spigelia 3). Instructions said to take every 2 hours, but I initially took 3 doses, 15 minutes apart. I noticed some relief but started to feel a fever coming on and then the intense pain returned. I welcome fevers, but I was concerned that the frequent dosing of Bell 3 brought this on. Next, I returned to the Sang 200/Bell 3 every few hours, and no relief. Ok, so then I find myself on the Tylenol website, looking for something to just knock me out for the night. Mind you, I originally came down with this flu 3 weeks ago, and although I got over the aches, head cold and cough, I’ve been dealing with this sinus issue for over a week. Lots of pain and tears. Well, I came to my senses and went to my trusty little ‘Top 100 Remedies Kit” that I bought from Joette years ago. I found Spigelia 30 and tried 3 doses, 15 minutes apart. Within 30 minutes, I was up cleaning my room and bathroom(trust me, it needed it after the past 3 weeks). I was still sore, but the throbbing pain was gone. I was amazed. One of my sons came in and said, “Whoa! You look a lot better!” Before bed, I added the Bell 3 to the Spigelia 30 and after a few hours of mild pain, I slept for 7 hours straight. I awoke a little sore and have had mild throbbing off and on…nothing like before though! I’m wondering if I should discontinue the Bell 3 and just stick with Spig. Or, was the Sang 200 every few hours, followed by Spig 30 the winning combo that worked so well last night. Also, could it be the 3xday sea salt nasal rinses are adding to the soreness? It’s so hard to make decisions when you feel awful. Outside perspective is so valuable. Please let me know if you have any additional insight after reading my sinus novel. Thank you. 🙂

      1. Theresa says:

New morning here. Still very sore and have mild throbbing pain again. 🙁

        1. Sara says:

I hope you are feeling better by now. Sounds like Spigelia 30 did the most for your sinusitis. Perhaps continue with that?

  8. Casey says:

I thought Influenzinum was the exception to the rule about homeopathic remedies lasting forever. Isn’t that why they make it fresh every year?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its not about freshness but about what the assumed Genus Epidemicus is for the year.

  9. Cathy says:

Just found your site for the first time, trying to help a friend with plantar fasciitis and will suggest the Symphytum + Rhus combo. Re: flu, I have a daughter who always needs Bryonia alternating with Gelsemium. It’s very apparent which one when: Gelsemium with chills down the back and “half-mast eyes”; Bryonia with ridiculously dry lips…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Good observational skills Cathy. That’s what homeopathy does…it teaches us to observe our children so that no pediatrician can talk us out of believing what we know to be true.

  10. Mayda says:

    Hello Joette and everyone else,
Thank you very much for this information. Joette, I don’t know where I would get my confidence in myself if I didn’t have you. And, yes, there is nothing better than being able to care for your child knowing you have done the best and picked the best for them.
So, my question is the following. My one daughter has responded very well to this protocol. She’s pretty much done and back to school. With my young son, the symptoms are a little different. He has now a barky cough. His fever broke through yesterday. Seems that the achiness is gone and he’s more energetic. Do I keep with the Rhus Tox/ Bryonia protocol? Or do I switch to a cough protocol? Or add to it?

  11. Cherryl says:

Joette thank you for all this! Flu is also strong here in the Philippines right now. I have wavered, me and my 2 kids have the flu. I gave them Influenzum alternating with Gelsemium for 2 days plus Oscillococcinum then I noticed my Banerji notes today. Switched today to Bryonia 30& Rhus Tox30. Feeling better already after 2 doses. Also sipping Oscillococcinum in water here and there, also put Silver drops in our ears (I read somewhere this helps) and also taking Zinc and Elderberry lozenges and once in a while Lypospheric Vitamin C. Doing everything we can!! Sending the remedies to our parents in the U.S., as well as Oscillo to ward off flu. Homeopathy works!!!!

  12. Dr. Christoph says:

Greetings again from Cologne, Germany. During the last 3 Months I had a lot of Influenza cases in my Praxis. First I thought that Gelsemium C30/200 did the best work, and it helped a lot when it started with Fever, nausea and weakness. But later I found out that Eupatorium C30/200 fits much better. That reminds me to Banerjiprotokoll Eupatorium 30 + Belladonna 30. A special Symptome in this Influenza is Backache between the Spine and the Scapula like a iron clamp/clasp. A good Protection that helps me is Spirulina 4-5 gr each day.

Many thanks for your input. Heads up, everyone…this is where we get out best info…paracitioners with hands-on clinical experience.

    2. Karla says:

Greetings from Texas. It’s my sons (12 yrs) first night of the flu and he is unable to sleep. He has tossed and spoken in his sleep all night. I’m 38 weeks pregnant and trying to get him well without catching it or passing it to my toddler. I’ve been reading all night and now I’m not sure which protocol to use. Any and all advice is helpful. What to take as preventative for momma and toddler?
What to give him to allow him to rest?
      Many, many thanks ina avance!!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m sorry Karla, I don’t take cases or give personal advise on this forum. MAny times reading till you head will explode will leave you feeling like you’ll never it right. But by returning to it all afresh the next day you may find your way more easily. Additionally, sometimes you need to just dive in and try something. That’s how we learn.

  13. Neelkamal says:

    Hello Joette

I have Eupatorium 30 and Belladonna only in 6c. Would it be best to give them both 15 minutes apart and not mixed since according to Dr Christoph the BP is Eupatorium 30 + Belladonna 30? If the potencies aren’t exact then they aren’t a protocol correct ? But am thinking of using them individually 15 Mins apart for my husband’s backache due to the ‘flu. Thanks so much for your input

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

15 minutes apart will likely work well.

  14. Neelkamal says:

    Thank you so much 🙂
I did use it that way and my husband’s backache that rhus tox wasn’t touching vanished. He started 3 days ago with cold, sore throat , sneezing and back ache and body pains ( which surely pointed to flu) and is all better in 2 days.
He couldn’t have been more puzzled 🙂

  15. Amy says:

Isn’t the Influenzinum supposed to help prevent the flu if the right strain is chosen for the year? Why then would I not take it to aid in preventing it as opposed to fighting it off once I get it? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We try to use a prophylactic when the condition is imminent.

  16. Tracy says:

Hi JC! So grateful for your amazing sound advice. Asking for a friend.. can you take oscillococcinum if your pregnant?

    Thanks

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathic remedies may be taken by infants, children, teens, adults, pregnant women, the elderly, dogs, cats, cows, etc.
