Confession time.

I used to smoke cigarettes … for years, even. The first time I tried, I felt nauseous.

Well, to be honest, it was more like the first few months that I forced myself to withstand that dreadful feeling.

Such is the power of peer pressure and the silliness of those teenage years. Indeed, peer pressure is what I caution families (and my own kids) against on a regular basis.

It’s what pediatricians and other doctors use, of sorts when they pressure mothers to give their kids antibiotics, steroids and other such medicaments.

So, it's pretty clear that risky behavior goes hand in hand with peer pressure and social compliance. I so wanted to look and act like an adult that I forced myself to accept the side effects I experienced that were brought about by smoking.

But I digress. I really wanted to talk about nausea today.

Perhaps you recall the uncomfortable nausea you experienced if you were a smoker in your youth, too. If you've never smoked, just imagine what it would be like to feel nauseated every time you lit up, because that is what tobacco does.

Hence, tobacco when diluted homeopathically to 30C or 200C will eliminate nausea.

Remember folks, we’re talking about the intelligence of homeopathy. Like cures like.

Therefore, if pregnancy causes nausea, Tabacum 200, once daily is the medicine.

If traveling in a moving vehicle causes nausea, like seasickness, Tabacum 30 every 1-3 hours has you covered.

Even if nausea is present for no apparent reason, it's still a good idea to consider Tabacum in homeopathic formula.

Is it the only medicine we have to treat nausea?

Certainly not.

We also have Arsenicum album 3, 30 or 200. But that’s more for vomiting and a burning stomach, which sometimes can emanate from eating bad food.

There’s also Veratrum album 30 or 200 but that’s a better choice for retching and relentless nausea with severe weakness.

Then there’s Ipecac 30 for morning sickness as well. I wish I had known about it for my first pregnancy three decades ago. I would have taken it a couple of times daily until it was much improved. It would have taken care of it in short order.

But when it comes to the average garden variety nausea, my first go-to is Tabacum 30 or 200.

It will not cure every single case of nausea but if it cures yours, it’s the perfect medicine.

Particularly since it breaks rules instead of complying with them. (A behavior I relish.)

So don't give in to peer pressure when the doctor prescribes Compazine.

Say no to Dramamine and Emetrol.

Instead, educate yourself about the aptitude of homeopathy, purchase your own supply of Tabacum 30 or 200 (and the others above) and keep this information tucked away in a safe place.

Tuck it perhaps in your purse where you once stored those naughty cigarettes.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette, perfect timing! I was looking at the list of nausea remedies yesterday, and nothing fit. But oh do I remember that first cigarette nausea! You hit the nail on the head!! Thanks!

Thanks for your candor, Joette. There is so much to learn from you! I recently got to see first hand the healing powers of Ipecac when my 8 year old daughter got bronchitis. We started with hepar sulph but the cough became dry and gagging and she would gasp for breaths in between the cough. One dose of Ipecac 200C every 3-4 hours resolved the cough and allowed her and the rest of us to sleep through the night. My mom came for a visit and mentioned she got poison ivy on her arms from gardening. She has tried homeopathy in the past for other ailments. Two doses of Rhus Tox 30C and the itching stopped and swelling went away. She has also used Nat Mur cell salt for the occasional headache that she gets. Calc Carb has done an amazing job at stopping the humming/buzzing in her ears. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks for the info Joette. I use homeopathics extensively for my family and have found my daughter one of those really tricky people to treat with homeopathics. Remedies that work for others, most often will not necessarily work for her. She suffers from car sickness but not with every trip. I have used Tabacum 30c and found it next to useless but found that Tabacum 200c works so long as it is taken 30 mins to 1 hour before the trip. If we forget and take it as we leave it will still have some effect but no where near as successfully and she will have to redoes frequently. I did have an interesting experience with her motion sickness two years ago (before I knew about Tabacum). We had a two hour trip and about 3/4 hour into the trip she developed motion sickness. I tried first one remedy then another. By this point she was lying curled in a foetal type position on the reclined front seat. I suddenly thought “this came on suddenly”, stopped and administered Aconite. The result was dramatic and amazing, within 5 minutes she was sitting up and joking with her brother. Interestingly that is the one and only time that Aconite helped for this.

Thanks for sharing your story. Homeopathy forces us to observe and access..something only the watchful eye of a mother does best.

  5. vicardwm says:

Are there any homeopathic remedies to actually help one stop smoking?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Some say that Arnica montana 30, once daily reduces interest in smoking. It would probably need to be taken for many months.

  6. Interesting about the various remedy – but what if I have a child who (seemingly at random) will eat and shortly afterwards throw up, although never nauseous, and once he has the food out of his stomach he is fine again…seems to happen more often with meats, but not necessarily only with that, also with other foods.
I took the GGBG class, and still can’t decide which remedy should work for this.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You need to look at the protocols specific for vomiting, even though there’s no nausea and also the protocol for food intol. THat will give you 2.

    Nausea for cancer treatments?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Some have found it helpful.

  8. Aly says:

What about for a 10 month old baby who recently the last couple weeks started gagging & vomiting usually two to three times daily while nursing & vomiting right after drinking water quickly? And mostly green variety of stools for the last five months & a lot of crying/screaming. Would chamomilla 200 be a good choice?

  9. Suzanne says:

Severe all day/ night pregnancy sickness. I took two doses of Ipecac 200 and felt worse immediately after but now about 2 hours after I am finding some relief. Would this be the case? Or should I try Ipecac 30?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When we see improvement, we deduce that the medicine choice was correct.

  10. Gina says:

Would the same Tobacum 30 help if a child is experiencing nausea after waking up early in the morning? She is used to waking up at 8:30 am and if she needs to wake up at 6:30 am to go to school she feels nausea with weakness and even sometimes has diarrhea. I used to suffer like that when I was her age (13) but nobody knew about homeopathy then. I guess I don’t want her to go through what I had to go through and just wait for a decade to “grow out” of it.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Without fully taking the case, I can’t comment on it, but it may indeed be helpful.

  11. Debbie says:

How do you dose calc carb for humming/ buzzing in ears/head? What potency?

    1. Kassandra says:

I’m hoping you can clarify a point for me. Sometimes you will say we need a diagnosis before treating with homeopathy and sometimes you say we base it in the symptoms. If some have persistent nausea with vomiting and loss of appetite with accompanying headaches. Do we go get a diagnosis or do we treat the symptoms? I know sometimes Doctors can’t diagnose because they don’t know what’s going on even with years of testing. I know I would love for my son to have an evaluation by you if the doctors couldn’t figure it out but would you be able to help without a diagnosis? Hoping my question makes sense! Thank you for all your help!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

In this case, I’d use the symptoms. That is, unless you know what could be ailing him. For example, is it something he’s eating, taking, ingesting? I don’t advocate for extensive testing. They can often cause new conditions.
