Ferocious Flu Fears

Joette Calabrese

Every winter. It’s like clockwork. A new flu is discovered, and the press tries to work us into a fevered pitch with concerns of our vulnerability.

Are we vulnerable?

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Should we be prepared?

Why not? Why wouldn’t we have the homeopathic medicines we could potentially need — on hand — in case a flu virus strikes our family?

In my opinion, however, there’s no current call for ferocious flu fears. I encourage you to keep it all in perspective. Keep lighthearted, yet aware and prepared.

If fear becomes too grand — one becomes anxious and fretful — I have had great success with Ignatia 200C, twice a day until my outlook has returned to sound thinking.

But nothing helps allay fears more than information.

While there is not much definitive information about the virus at this time (because we Western homeopaths have not treated any cases yet), there are some helpful suggestions.

And in my estimation, this one is really no different than any others that homeopaths have treated over the last 250 years.

To that end, I’ve devoted a Facebook Live event to the subject: Flu Remedy.

I also expanded on the conversation in last week’s podcast, Flu Got You, Too? There is a lot of information packed into those audio resources. I urge you to listen, as this blog is only a recap!

So, first things first.

Because we all want to avoid getting sick in the first place, I inevitably receive many questions about using homeopathy as protection against catching cold and flu viruses.

As of this writing (February 2020), the press seems overwrought about this virus.

The Ministry of the Central Council for Homeopathy in India released a statement advising Arsenicum album 30 could be used prophylactically — one dose daily for three days, then repeating the regimen monthly.

In fact, in my recent podcast, I mentioned this same medicine as a prophylactic, albeit with a slightly different frequency.

In my experience, when the flu is imminent, the frequency depends on severity.

Arsenicum album 30C or X may be taken either once a day for a week OR maybe twice a day for a week and then back off and take it only once or twice a week from that time forward.

We must realize these recommendations currently offered for the virus by the Indian Council are somewhat speculative, and not based upon experience with patients.

However, this virus has a long incubation period (10-14 days) and initially presents as a cold.

This slow manifestation does suggest Arsenicum album 30, which is an excellent medicine for extreme colds.

In each epidemic (and there have been plenty of them through the ages), homeopaths around the world try to nail down a “genus epidemicus” — one remedy that works across the global population to address a particular illness.

The predominant medicine currently suggested by some homeopaths for this virus is Gelsemium 30 because of the severe fatigue accompanying this virus.

Again, this is based on theory.

Until we have the opportunity to treat many cases and can observe the efficacy of the medicine time and time again, homeopaths appropriately must make their most educated guesses.

Gelsemium has been the genus epidemicus in other flu epidemics (most famously during the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 where it worked effectively across the globe).

Gelsemium is particularly well-chosen for extreme fatigue, malaise and achy muscles (all of which present in the virus).

So, it’s a seemingly good fit. And it has acted for garden variety flus in my practice so far this year.

Some homeopaths have also suggested it as a prophylactic:

·         One dose of Gelsemium 30 weekly when an outbreak is geographically distant.

·         One dose of Gelsemium 30 daily for seven days if you are close to an outbreak, and then twice a week after that until the threat passes.

Other homeopaths recommend using a nosode (a remedy homeopathically prepared from the virus itself).

However, in my experience, I haven’t found nosodes always work the best.

I prefer to employ the simillimum — such as the various homeopathic medicines I’m discussing here.

I’m not saying they’re wrong! Nosodes are simply no longer my first choice.

I also know many people experience wonderful results safeguarding against the flu using Oscillococcinum prophylactically.

With all that said, I feel the best protection against the flu is safeguarding your overall health with nutritious, sanitary food, clean water, clean hands, and plenty of rest.

We Westerners seem to take the first three for granted and ignore the last one. Humans need rest!

Unfortunately, we’ve become accustomed to burning the candle at both ends and in the middle. Then we wonder why we are susceptible to illness.

So, my advice is to take care of yourself now, and perhaps you’ll avoid the flu later!

But even with the greatest of care, we all get sick from time to time.

I keep a Banerji Protocol in my purse, and I suggest you do as well. It’s essential I keep it on hand — immediately ready — for whenever I feel an onset of weakness or that “I’m coming down with something” feeling.

If I feel something is “off,” I employ Aconitum napellus 200C mixed with Bryonia 30C, twice a day.

If I know I’m getting slammed with a virus, I use it every few hours. (This Banerji Protocol is also helpful for coughs from flu, as I mentioned in my podcast.)

If I were definitively diagnosed with this virus, I might also consider employing the Banerji Protocol for SARS (a generally similarly presenting virus):

·         Lachesis mutus 200C, one dose, every other day (used to combat symptoms in the lungs)

·         Chelidonium majus 6X (best in liquid form) + Hepar sulphuris calcareum 6C, every 2 hours (used to address cough and symptoms in lungs and throat)

·         Kali muriaticum 3X* mixed with Ferrum phosphoricum 3X twice a day (used to address issues in the blood and grand fatigue)

*In the United States, Kali mur and Ferrum phos are easier to find in a 6X potency — an acceptable substitution.

But don’t assume the worst!

Initially, look at your virus as a cold (consider ColdCalm), until you are proven otherwise. Consider your flu as a “regular” flu (perhaps consider Oscillococcinum or Dr. Dale’s ALL FLU, which my sons have successfully employed).

Don’t automatically assume you’ve contracted the virus simply because you’ve heard so much about it in the media!

I provide a free flu chart to help you determine whether you’re dealing with the flu or something else. It also walks you through various choices to consider for use after you determine if you’re battling the flu, colds or allergies.

For the flu, in addition to the Arsenicum album 30 and Gelsemium 30 mentioned above, I might use another Banerji Protocol that I discussed in a recent podcast: Rhus tox 30 mixed with Bryonia 30.

These are generally taken either alternating every 3 hours if initially getting sick OR mixed together in the mouth every 3 hours if symptoms are already established (e.g., achiness, chest heaviness).

I might also add Nux vomica 30 for chills and fever (especially in those who are overworked and achy). Ferrum phos 30 is a well-qualified medicine for low-grade fevers (which uniquely presents with the virus).

Many times, any form of flu presents bone aches. I’m not talking about mild achiness here; I’m talking about the feeling that every bone in your body is breaking — intense pain, especially in the back.

This type of bone pain carries with it a restlessness — a desire to move, but that movement provides no relief.

There is also generally a prominent chilliness and inability to warm up. The pain may also be temporarily ameliorated after vomiting.

When the flu manifests in these symptoms, I have had great success with Eupatorium perfoliatum 200, taken every 3-4 hours depending on the intensity of the pain.

If there are coughs with the flu, you can search my blog for specific medicines matching the various types of coughs.

As you can see, I suggest using each symptom — while it is the predominant complaint — to guide you to the appropriate homeopathic medicine to use.

As each aspect of the condition clears —as the medicines have done their job — discontinue the current remedy’s use and turn your attention to the next primary problem until you are returned to good health.

One last note: Don’t be surprised — or embarrassed — if a bit of depression sets in after you’ve recovered from a virus.

It’s very common, yet we all seem to think post-illness depression is unique to us. I rely on Aurum metallicum 200C, one dose every 2-3 days until I am back to my usual self.

My final point: remember, viruses don’t respond to antibiotics.

All too often, people demand their health care practitioners prescribe an unnecessary antibiotic.

And much more often than they should, practitioners acquiesce.

Antibiotics should only be prescribed for bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, ear infections or sinus infections.

But — and it’s a big BUT — we who employ homeopathy know even then, antibiotics carry their own long-term dangers.

There’s an alternative!

For instance, the Aconite 200/Bryonia 30 Banerji Protocol I mentioned earlier is also an effective protocol for pneumonia.

Kali carb 200 is also extremely useful in pneumonia cases.

But proper utilization of these medicines requires more education than I can give in these short, free formats.

Because of the timeliness of this topic, I am relaunching my course, “The Antibiotic Alternative: Balance Your Bugs Without the Drugs.”

Click here to download a free infographic and learn more about this valuable course.

I urge you to stop relying on allopathic drugs that carry myriad side-effects and trigger additional health concerns.

Homeopathy is relatively safe, gentle, polite and efficacious — when you are well-trained in its use.

There is no better time than now for you to learn the antibiotic alternatives homeopathy has to offer.

I hope you’ll share this post, my podcasts and my Facebook Live events with your friends and loved ones who may also be concerned about the flu. Pass on the good news of homeopathy!

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Thanks for the information Joette. With this in mind what do you suggest before taking a long flight. I’m thinking Arsenicum el3 days before. Pat

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I travel and don’t take anything but should one be concerned, Arsenicum is a good choice.

  6. Mary Kate Pendergast says:

Thank you, Joette! I’m sharing this!

  7. Basma says:

I flew in a plane with my two year old three days ago and he started a fever of 39 last night with no other symptoms. Should I start with Aconitum/bryonia? Or do you suggest a different remedy?
We did the arsenicum album 30 for three days before traveling.

I don’t offer personal advice here. Instead, I offer education here on the blog, in study groups, etc. If you read this blog carefully and navigate a bit, you’ll find your answers.

  8. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Thank you for another helpful article!

As I understand, Aconite + Bryonia is for that first “uh-oh” feeling and continued throughout the cough & chest cold type illnesses but if it began to look more flu-like with body aches, etc., you would switch over to the Rhus tox + Bryonia… is that right?

    Thank you very much.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      pretty much

  9. Rachel says:

Thank you 🙂 Enjoyed your facebook live tonight!

May I ask, do the Banerji’s routinely give Kali mur + Ferr phos 2xD after childbirth or only if there was an unusual amount of bloodloss or fatigue?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I/they use it when there is pathology.

  10. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

That’s correct. If I called it influenza I misstated.

  11. Kathleen says:

    Thank you!!! You’re the best!

  12. Kathleen says:

Oh I was going to say, my daughter went to a health food store here in Baxter, MN looking for some Gelsenium, the store person told her the FDA won’t allow them to sell 30C remedies any longer. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this? We do work with a local Homeopath and we can get what we need through her. We are letting our voice be heard in our state in support of homeopathics. Thanks for any comments.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Your local store is misinformed.

  13. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Thank you for patiently & graciously answering people’s questions here.

If I may ask a further question, you said that the Rhus tox + Bryonia is for “initially getting sick” but also the Aconite + Bryonia is for that “I’m coming down with something” feeling. I am struggling a bit to understand which to use in the very beginning, before specific symptoms arise.

I’m assuming you might decide to go the cold vs. flu direction based on what is in your house or community, is that correct? And besides that, is there ever a time that you would start with the Rhus tox + Bryonia?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When you read your materia medica on each of these medicines, it will help you understand when and how to use them. Without spending too much time here on the differentials the key is in the kinds of pains found in the Rhus tox picture.

      1. Rachel says:

Thank you very much Mrs. Calabrese. That perfectly answers this question and also a larger one that’s been bouncing around my mind for some time.

I was unclear until now if we could use the Materia Medica for combinations. I know they become their own unique medicine and I wasn’t sure if the individual parts were still represented. This answer is a big help in my understanding overall, thank you!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          You’re welcome.

  14. tracey says:

Thank you so much for assisting us to empower ourselves! Your blog is a great resource for the community! I have shared it with many people. My question is…do you need to leave some kind of time gap between switching from one remedy/protocol to the next? eg…you feel like you are coming down with something but within a day your symptoms have not improved…do you wait or can you switch protocols at any point? Thanks

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      At any point.
‘Happy to hear that you’re sharing.

  15. Angie says:

Thank you for your very valuable input Joette! 🙂

I would like to ask you. I am at the Boiron’s website. They don’t carry Chelidonium majus in 6x- Only on 6c. The same issue with Hepar sulphuris calcareum.
Also Kali Muriaticum and Ferrum Phosphoricum ONLY carry it on 6c. They don’t have any of these remedies in X potency.

This is what I would like to ask you. Do you suggest it’s a good option still to get these remedies in the 6c potency?

    Thank yo so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      yes.

      1. Angie says:

Thank you Joettte!..For everything you do for us unconditionally. 🙂

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s my pleasure, Angie. All I ask is that you turn others on to this information so that we can catapult this movement.

  16. Mick says:

Joette, thank you for this excellent article; I am sharing it with several of my friends.

So, just to clarify: Regarding prophylactic use of Arsenicum 30, is the protocol once or twice per day for one week, followed by once or twice per week thereafter?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Once daily in the 1st week.

      1. Mick says:

Thank you for the clarification; apparently I misunderstood the protocol.

Also, I just recently learned of your mother’s passing. My condolences, and I will pray for the repose of her soul.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Such thoughtful words. THank you Mick.

  17. Jake Duncan says:

You rock Joette! I learn so much from you and many of my patients have benefitted from your knowledge, wisdom and experience.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Thanks Jake!

  18. Petra says:

I was trying to get the 200C potency but they only had it in 200ck. Ist that also ok to use?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      They are virtually the same.

  19. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, I just discussed using Thuja 30 on FB live last night. You may find it there or on youtube.

  20. Dave says:

Information from Italy seems to indicate that the problem (if it becomes severe) presents as interstitial bilateral pneumonia. So would that suggest Kali Carb or Ant Tart?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have a blog covering pneumonia. If you search for it, it will give you what you’re looking for.

  21. Shikha says:

In a healthy person, would prophylactic/ preventive medicines cause a proving? What are your views

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If used incorrectly it’s most certainly possible. Having said this, by definition, a prophylactic is used on someone who is not afflicted.

      1. Shiksha says:

Thank you for your quick response. Could you kindly clarify what an improper or incorrect usage would mean? Would it mean the dosing directions are not followed or would it mean that it was used where not required (I.e. prophylacticly?)

Given the fact that Materia medica’s describe Thuja as a deep acting miasmatic remedy, it would be helpful if incorrect usage is clarified

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          yes and yes.

          1. Shikha says:

Sorry! I did not understand your response. Could you kindly clarify what would be incorrect usage

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Too frequently, for too long, the wrong potency, used when not needed, assumed diagnosis, etc.

  22. Paul Jalsevac says:

Could someone do both the arsenicum 30 and the gelsemium 30 as prophylactics at the same time to keep my bases covered? Also, if one is taking Arsenicum 3C for stomach issues already is that strong enough to be a prophylactic? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would not take too many medicines simultaneously without having a good deal of experience.
Arsenicum 3 covers this quite well.

  23. Kim says:

I am curious about this, too! And I can only find Kali Carb in 30, too…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Boiron sells it on Amazon.

  24. helen mcdonald says:

    Joette thankyou so very much
Have India managed this outbreak I wonder
See how quickly media poopood their advice and shut it down? Anyone wd think there was a profit to make out of this horror….
My son has sp. needs which make him highly sensitive and empathetic
He Is so anxious about the virus
I shall give him ignatia, thankyou, any other ideas or suggestions
Ps my condolences re your mam, such a loss, sending love and strength xxxx

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      1. Helen mcdonald says:

        Just seen this
        Thanku you’re a star x

  25. Lucy Newhouse says:

Joette, We started on Sunday taking Arsenicum prophetically (one a day) and my 8 year old appears to now have the stomach bug. I searched your site for remedies for stomach aliments and found Arsenicum is the #1 remedy. Could it be that it’s presenting itself and we should stop taking it? we think he was exposed to the stomach bug by my father in law, he didn’t have it but grandma did. They saw each other for 10 mins. Hard to say.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re right. It’s hard to say until more time passes.

  26. Seeme says:

    Hi Joette,
Personally the only way out that I see is to get the virus and develop immunity so, with that in mind, would I still take Ars Alb 30c or Thuja 30c prophylactically? Or could I take either one of the remedies to mitigate severe symptoms? If so, I would. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from your fan in Blighty.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Watch my FBL tomorrow night, 3/16/20 at 8PM EST. I’ll be covering this topic with updates. If you miss it, you may watch it anytime or on youtube within 48 hours. I suggest that you subscribe to my channel to be notified.

      1. Helen mcdonald says:

I’m at work can I watch it later on? Thanku for your devotion x

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          yes

  27. charisully says:

Are Aconite 200 (Mixed with Bryonia 30) or Lachesis 200 for the SAARS ok for pregnancy, if the symptoms are presenting? Or should those be avoided when pregnant?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There’s no one answer for all but I don’t have experience with any of those medicines causing trouble during pregnancy. Having said this, it’s prudent to be extra cautious during pregnancy and use them only as needed and with forethought.

  28. Leah says:

I would like to get all these remedies but am having trouble piecing them all together. Would I be better off to purchase a kit from you – even that means everything is the same potency? If so, which kit would you think would do the best?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its always better to have a kit but unfortunately, we have a waiting list for kits because of the situation.

  29. Casey says:

Where is a reliable source I can purchase the book THE BANERJI PROTOCOLS-A New Method of Treatment with Homeopathic Medicines’? I looked at their site but I couldn’t find how to purchase.

    1. Casey says:

I apologize, I found it. Thank you for all you do to help us moms learn how to care for our family.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      amazon

  30. Sherri Williger says:

liquid chelidonium majis 6x from Ohm directs 10 drops as dosage,2D in 1 0z. water.Protocol mentioned taking it every 2 hrs. How many drops do we take and in how much water? Also directions stated to shake the bottle 10x before using it.Does that mean shake it the first time only (10x} or each time we use the drops?Thank you very much, Joette. Stay well.

  31. Deb says:

Hi I wanted to say I have been very sick for the past 5 days and have used a lot of these remedies. The one from which I noticed the most dramatic difference was when I took Lachesis 200 every two days. I am curious to know about the reason for the two days and could it be taken more frequently. To note: on Sunday I was achey, feverish and wheezing and coughing, today I am up and about. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When used for breathing conditions Lachesis is usually used e.o.d. But you might want to check out my Monday night Facebook Live on Facebook or Youtube since I’ve updated my info.

  32. SP Jena says:

Hi Joette – Since this primarily targets the lungs, what do you think about Tuberculinum and Kali Sulph to halt it ? Or maybe even be taken as prophylaxis ?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t think Tuberculinum is a good choice. You might want to watch my Facebook Live presentation from 2 weeks ago and last week as well as tomorrow night. They may also be watched on Youtube.

      1. SP Jena says:

        thx will do.

      2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I don’t believe that Facebook has removed any of my postings.
I’ve used both 30 and 200 for colds and flus but the more commonly used protocol is using 30c.

  33. Mick says:

Joette, my family has started taking the Arsenicum protocol because there are several confirmed cases in our county. I’d also like to use an essential oil blend that is homeopathy-friendly. Would thyme and oregano qualify, or not? I guess I’m confused about “how aromatic is too aromatic” (because some highly aromatic oils like cinnamon, cloves, and frankincense are supposedly OK to use when also using homeopathic remedies). Thanks for all you do. 🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It depends on how concentrated the oil is, how much is used and how susceptible you are. There are no hard and fast rules that I’m aware of.
Having said this, Camphor and mints are the most notorious for antidoting.

      1. Mick says:

Thanks, Joette. For clarification, by “mints” I assume that you mean peppermint and spearmint (as opposed to mint-family herbs like basil, lemon balm, etc.). Is that a correct assumption?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          You’ve got it.

          1. Mick says:

Thanks, Joette! May your family’s passage through this year’s Lenten desert be particularly blessed and fruitful.

  34. Sherri Williger says:

Hi Joette, the Banerji update, above, mentions the protocol as thuja30 once a day for 7 days and then 1 dose a week for 3 weeks.Their full comment was updated on 3/27/20 and the doses were changed to thuja30 twice daily for 7 days, twice a week for 3 weeks.Does that mean thuja once a day or twice a day during those weeks?Take 3 weeks or till threat has passed? Please clarify. On students of Joette Calabrese facebook it was said that you had mentioned to take the BP until the threat has passed.Thank you and stay well.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have said to use it until the threat has passed but now I wonder how long people will believe the threat remains. Indeed some might think it could go on for half a year or more so that’s not a good plan. I like the way they stated, better.

  35. Meraf says:

    Joette,

Thank you so much for this information and just the daily emails you have been sending. It gives a lot of people hope.

I see you responded to an above question about concerns with provings when using Thuja as a prophylactic. I have the same concern. So it is safe to take the Thuja without proving the remedy as long as we stick to the Banerji protocol and not use it to often or for longer than the suggested 4 weeks? I am planning on giving it to my parents who are older so just want to err on the side of caution.

    Thanks again and God bless!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We can’t be 100% certain that by using a medicine that there will not be a proving, but by using it in the Banerji fashion the chances are potentially minimized.

  36. Kristal says:

We are dealing with the diarrhea, headach and fever form of the virus. I’m having trouble getting the diarrhea to clear after 9 days of rememdies.

  38. Sarah says:

    Joette,
While a great deal still remains to be seen, I wonder if your thoughts thus far are still in line with your thinking from earlier this month when you said, that perhaps you would eat your words but you’re feeling was that it’s always a new flu, or virus or something.
I tend to completely agree with your line of thinking, even now as this situation is unfolding. However, all of the social distancing and shut downs are not the norm in our society and yet, here we are. I’m not overly concerned just perplexed that all of this has transpired the way it has.

  39. Heather says:

Thank you a thousand times over for all of the work you do educating us on how to care for ourselves, family, and friends.

A dear elderly friend of mine just died from the virus and complications from pneumonia. Unfortunately, his wife didn’t let me know he was even sick until he was isolated in the ICU with pneumonia. The doctors wouldn’t let her see him until he was passing away, and wouldn’t consider homeopathy.

She said that the pneumonia was not typical, that the cells actually started pushing water out. With the remedies suggested in your pneumonia blog, does this matter, or will the remedies work regardless of the type of pneumonia? She wants to be prepared with the remedies in case she starts developing symptoms while quarantined.

    1. Vee says:

Sorry to hear about this, What do you mean when you say the cells started pushing water out? Do you mean the lungs were filled with water?

  40. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Regarding how long to take the prophylactic Thuja 30… what if there was a considerable threat lasting longer than the Banerji recommended schedule of 4 weeks? For instance, someone in the vulnerable category living with sick family members or a nurse treating sick patients.

If they wished to continue taking it longer than 4 weeks, would it be considered something of a break for the body to stop taking Thuja for one week and then resume at twice a week for another 4 week cycle?

Thank you very much for helping me understand how to properly respect these beautiful medicines.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s difficult to know for certain but I generally error on the side of the Banerji Clinic’s recommendation and use it only for as long as directed.

      1. Rachel says:

Thank you Mrs. Calabrese! I will pass the word along. 🙂

  41. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

I will err on the side with you and the Banerji’s, that is plenty good enough for me!

If one felt they were still needing a prophylactic after the 4 weeks of Thuja, is there any reason against then switching to Arsenicum prophylactically?

    Thank you again ~ Rachel

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Do you consider yourself to be at high risk?

      1. Vee says:

If I’m near a barbecue grill with smoke coming out, or in the kitchen when did is being fried and there is a small amount of smoke I get an asthma attack within minutes, I usually pass out and need to sleep immediately , don’t know why? I’m thinking of using thuja 30c as a prophylactic. Is this OK? UK numbers are going up in my age range 30s

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

The information I offer here is for educational purposes. I can’t offer you specific medical advice.
Having said this, numbers will always be going up because they’re testing more people and the PCR tests can manipulate results to frighten the population. It’s a most inaccurate method of testing. Be wary of media and how they present this.
Instead, look to independent journalists on alternative sites.

  42. Rachel says:

No Ma’am, I personally do not believe myself at high risk. I am asking so that I may help a friend who works in the E.R. and for an elderly relative of mine. Thank you Mrs. Calabrese.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The best way to know if someone is ok to take a prophylactic over a period of time is to use it until there are problems from doing so. In a way it’s like taking Vit C to bowel intolerance.

  43. Sarah W says:

I am following Dr. Pitcairn and Dr. Falconers recommendation of taking Nux Vomica 30 as a prophylactic for the flu. My son had all the symptoms last month (but we never tested him) and Nux Vomica worked better than anything else I tried. I am giving a 30c potency one weekly to my elderly parents. My father has multiple health/breathing problems so I am trying to do the right thing and give him a fighting chance with homeopathy!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

‘Happy to hear. Pls watch my Facebook Live presentation Monday 8PM EST. I will be giving an update with new information that may help you. You may watch it at a later date anytime and Youtube will also carry it after a day or so.

      1. Sarah W says:

Thank you, Mrs. Calabrese! I will be sure to watch!!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Please alert others. We need to get this out there.

  44. Judy says:

    Joette,
You write about Kali muriaticum 3X mixed with Ferrum phosphoricum 3X twice a day for issues in the blood and grand fatigue. Can you please explain a little further, or perhaps give an example? Thank you for all that you do.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The most common example is anemia.

  45. Sarah W says:

I watched your video update this morning, thank you for all the good info! You very briefly mentioned Stannum Metallicum as a possibility; what would be the preferred potency for that one? I think I have this in a 200c.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve personally used Stannum 200 with good results.

  46. Liz says:

I am hearing reports of people developing diarrhea toward the end of their virus. Should one have arsenicum album 30 on hand in such a case?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Arsenicum is a v. good medicine for diarrhea. Watch me on FB live this Monday night and I’ll be covering the subject fully.

  47. Elisa says:

    Hi Joette!

I was on the Banerji site today to look at their protocols. I am a big believer in herd/natural immunity, but Dr. Pratip writes that he believes that a total lockdown in high risk areas is a good government response – and that the consequences of society’s trying to develop herd immunity could be “disastrous.” India seems to have so many more diseases much deadlier than this one; can you imagine why his response follows the mainstream narrative? Thanks so much for everything!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t speak for Dr. Pratip’s thinking. Anything I would say here would be at best speculative.

  48. Dr kader says:

    what are these recommendation?.
how it is related to homeopathy?.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The medicines I discuss are all homeopathic.

  49. Trina Johnstone says:

Would you recommend any of these remedies for recurring fever episodes in a 6 year old? She has been getting fever and achy flu symptoms every few weeks for over a year which none of the rest of the family gets. She often gets stomach pains with it and I’ve quite a few Indigo scans and treatment sessions for her and they always reveal as viral. So I’m wondering if I can use homeopathy to root out what is going on. I’d be so appreciative of your thoughts about it but I realize you don’t take cases this way! Just be glad of a steer!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I cover this concern fully in my course titled “Antibiotic Alternative”.
I urge you strongly to consider it.
Additionally, should you be interested, if you join Joette’s Mighty Members, where you get more of my methods on how to raise your family without drugs, etc., the course is discounted.
      I hope this helps.

  50. Jennifer Bryson says:

Hi! In my email, it stated there are nine remedy cards associated with this article. I was hoping to print those, but I do not see a link to sign up for their download. Can you point me in the direction for the download of these nine mentioned cards? Thank you!

  51. Rebecca Francis says:

Good afternoon, I’m a single Mother of nine children who all still live at home. After suffering with the virus like symptoms for approximately 2 weeks, my son tested positive (the test was required by his employer). Two of my children were or are sick. If you had to choose, which remedies would be your absolute “must haves”? Sore throats, extreme fatigue, headaches, & muscle aches are the common & worse symptoms. Thanks in advance to anyone who wishes to respond!

  52. Jan says:

    Hi Rebecca!
Boiron Oscillococcinum has served me well this past year. Every time I started feeling like I was getting sick I would start taking it. Never got sick.
It did seem tho that if I stopped taking it too soon I would start feeling like I was getting sick again and have to start taking it again 🙁 Eventually I realised I just needed to take it for another day or two past when I thought I was feeling better (feeling “better” bc one doesn’t feel as sick as before is different than, as Joette says – feeling “very much better”).
Amazon has the best deal going now – whatever your needs, there’s a package with that many doses in it. So if you choose to go this route, look at all of them before purchasing so you get the best deal.
Just now I noticed that the descriptions say tablets, but they’re not – they’re the quick-dissolve poppyseed pellets as usual.
I also have added Thuja 30c to the mix (per Dr. Pratip Banerji protocol). Boiron has a pack of 3 tubes for $10.99. Urenus also has their Thuja 30c for $11.99 on Amazon (50-66 total doses vs Boiron’s 48 total doses in a 3 pack). It’s a UK company, but if you have Amazon Prime and need remedies quicker it’s an option, tho Amazon shipping hasn’t been as quick recently. Pureformulas.com however still has very fast shipping, but their 3 pack of Boiron is $12.71 – but it ships for free, no minimum. (They’re also having a BOGO free sale on Boiron single remedies all this month, but this moment are out of Thuja 30c).
    I hope this helps!
    Good luck to you all!

    1. Rebecca says:

Bless you Jan! Well, guess who lost her sense of smell this morning? Me. I’ll admit, it was extremely traumatizing for a few moments. I’ve since gathered my senses? LOL Complete loss of smell. My worst symptoms are the muscle aches and pains, reminds me of when I had Lyme disease. Absolutely horrible. I’ve actually been taking Oscillococcinum. I purchased several boxes when the pandemic first started. I will continue to take it and purchase the Thuja. Some of the other remedies Joette recommended arrived this afternoon, thankfully. Again, I really appreciate your response. This has really thrown me for a loop, my children are generally very healthy and it was very upsetting to see my sons suffering so much. I also have one who’s asthmatic. Aspiring to keep my fears in check. So far, he’s still feeling well. Bless you for your help!

  53. Andrea says:

Would the prophylactic options work for preventing issues from the jab shedding spike proteins?

  54. Tammy says:

Are the protocols listed here safe to use in pregnancy, specifically, the 3rd trimester of pregnancy?

  55. Kristin Sgro says:

Hello! I have 2 questions….When you mix two different remedies together and take at same time….like Aconitum 30 and bryonia 30 ….how many times can you take this thru out the day? I have been giving 3x’s per day for my son and I have seen it help him but then eventually his fever returns along w his other symptoms. Is it okay to take more than 3x’s?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      All in the article.

  56. Kristin Sgro says:

My 2nd question….if someone is using the Aconitum 30 plus Bryonia 30 combo 3x/day (see above question I posted) can they also give a single remedy in between ?

  57. Kristin Sgro says:

Thank you ! I found it!

  58. Roberta Wearmouth says:

Great info; thanks so much! Have there been any studies on which remedies have worked prophylactically since this article was from the beginning of the “flu”? I didn’t have success from the nosodes.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

I urge anyone interested in navigating homeopathy to own a repertory and materia medica. They represent over 200 years of clinical evidence and studies called provings.
