In answer to your questions, I recently began discussing fungal conditions. (If you missed the first installment, please click through to my blog article, The Feet of Athletes.)

But for now, let’s keep the conversation going, shall we?

Have you ever observed someone with skin discoloration, as pictured in this blog’s main illustration above?

It’s fairly common here in Florida. But don’t jump to the conclusion that its prevalence here is simply because the residents display their skin to a greater degree than those in my native Western New York.

No. This condition, called tinea versicolor, tends to occur more frequently in warm, humid climates.

During my time in India, as I studied beside Drs. Prasanta and Pratip Banerji at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation, I saw this condition a lot. If I’m being honest, it’s hard to find a warmer, more humid clime than India, so it’s no surprise that this condition would bloom there.

This disorder is caused by an overgrowth of a naturally occurring organism that exists on our skin — a species of yeast that is part of our normal flora.

So, why do some folks become afflicted while others don’t? In general, the cause of this fungal overgrowth often has to do with the climate. But the good news is the cause matters not to our homeopathic medicines.

The  Drs. Banerji often recommended their protocol of Mercurius solubilis 200 (Merc sol), twice daily until very much better.

And as always when treating a chronic condition such as these mentioned here, if new symptoms arise or if there's no improvement the remedy should be halted.

If the condition presented with extreme itching (sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t), they would add Antimonium crudum 6 mixed with Arsenicum album 200, twice daily until the itching diminished.

Ringworm is handled in much the same manner.

You see, ringworm is not caused by a “worm” at all — just as a fungus is not necessarily “fun.” (Seriously. Who names these things, anyway?)

Ringworm (tinea corporis) can be caused by over 40 different fungi. However, while it is more common in warmer climates, ringworm is most often transmitted by direct contact.

Merc sol 200, twice daily until very much better, or the Banerji Protocol of Graphites 200, one dose every third day until the condition resolves is another way to approach this as per the Drs. Banerji.

To the untrained eye, skin conditions* can appear similar, so it’s always good to have a conventional diagnosis. But be discriminating when it comes to that antifungal prescription the conventional doctor will insist upon.

They mean well. But they’ve never been to India to observe these conditions being resolved with homeopathy. No side effects, no adverse reactions, and no kicking the can down the road, resulting in future maladies. Homeopathy simply provides polite, reproducible, and efficacious action.

Common conditions such as these would make such an excellent opportunity to pass on the good news of homeopathy, wouldn’t they? So, you be the hero, and I’ll be your guide — as we follow in the Banerji footsteps of homeopathic healing. Own these medicines so that you’re ready for anything!

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette, thank you for posting about fungi. Many years ago, a family member and her step-sister had ringworm. I gave them each one dose of Tuberculinum 200c because homeopaths say you can’t get ringworm unless you have the underlying Tuberculosis Miasm. The ringworm disappeared and, as far as I know, has never returned. And as for Graphites: being post-menopausal, I once took one dose (one pellet) of Graphites 30c. It caused a horrible, itchy eczema on my right elbow that lasted 3 months. So I hope your readers will be very, very careful with Graphites.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

It’s not that Graphites is the problem; it’s that it was not the correct medicine.
And yes, Tuberculinum is a v. good choice as well.

      1. Rosanne Fischer says:

I am currently dealing with an intense skin reaction to – not exactly the wrong medicine but a remedy used incorrectly. In my impatience to start the “Joepathy” protocol, while waiting for the 30x tincture, I dropped a 200 pellet in half the amount of water described. After 2-3 days I broke out in hives all over. Thought it was a reaction to contact with something in environment. After eliminating those, thought it might have been an intense “Law of Cure” response to the Arnica, as I have been exposed to multiples of conventional medicine in last year and a half due to Covid hospitalization & lung surgery (clot removed via femoral artery).
So I thought I’d ride it out as toxins exited via skin.
Got curious about aggravations and after googling them did an antidote attempt or two, both of which worked immediately – hives disappeared from skin.
But they came back. Worked through Apis, Urtica, Rhus Tox, etc. Hives came back after a day or so after each remedy. Then did the Banerji protocol mentioned on here and now have it managed. Still flickers under skin a bit, but I soothe it with lavender oil and am now taking remedy once every other day or so as I’m of the old school opinion that the crap that’s been put in me needs to come out and I let it surface. Am still curious about the “Why” but content to deal with the “What”and treat it. Am signed up for Gateway and plan to take the Skin Ugly Truth course, also.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

          nice job, Roseanne.
The “why” of what occurs after using the wrong medicine or wrong potency or wrong frequency is as simple as “it was the wrong choice”.

          1. Jenn says:

Is there a different protocol for scalp ringworm?

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

There are others from which to choose but we often start with those that are located generally on the skin.

Thank you and Merry Christmas! Is Sepia also a treatment option?

  2. Rand Cooper says:

What about more invasive fungal species such as San Joaquin valley fever or cryptococcus. Symptoms could be fatigue night sweats general malaise coughing lung symptoms and more

  3. Melinda says:

Thank you for addressing tinea versicolor. I’ve had it since my early 20s (I’m now 58) when I first went to SUNY Brockport, now I’m sure the upstate humidity was the cause, but back then I chalked it up to my newly discovered love of beer!! 🤣 I’m looking forward to trying these remedies.

  4. Melissa says:

I wonder which remedy would be appropriate for a fungal rash under the abdomen or the breasts? Would it be the same as for Athlete’s Foot rash?

  5. Monique Cormier says:

Hi Ringworm is not caused by a worm ringworm is the layterm
For times corporis. Fungus in the body
Tines pedis is fungus of the foot

The picture above in my opinion is vitiligo just like Michel
    Jackson
    Fungus does not
    Change the color
    Of the skin.
    Not to offend
You but I have been a New Brunswick Canada Podiatrist
For 30 years. Have a great day 💁‍♀️

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I agree; ringworm is not caused by a worm.
Interesting that you find that fungus doesn’t change the color of the skin as what I saw in India was categorized as fungus and looked just like this.
      Thanks for your input.

  6. Nalomeli says:

In Hawaii we call it ‘haole rot.’ Everyone knows it’s a fungus. You never said why some people get it and others do not. Did you know there is even ‘sand fungus’? You get it from most, humid, warm (infected) sand. It really makes the skin look weird.

  7. Jessy says:

Thanks so much for this. I’ve been suffering from TV ever since I was nursing my firstborn 8 years ago. I have an appointment for the Derm office nearby to get the anti fungal because I had tried so many things…and just found this. Thank God. Quick question about doing all 3 (for the itchiness), I simply take all 3 together twice a day? So 15 remedy pellets in the am and 15 in the pm? Sorry if that’s a silly question. I’m still sort of a newbie with homeopathy. I’ve learned so much from you, so grateful for all the content you put out there for free.

The label on the outside of the bottle indicates the number of pills that comprise a dose.
The rest of the directions are in this article.
I hope this does good work for you.

  8. Abby says:

What might one use to treat a tree fungus that’s much too large to spray all of the leaves? Our crabapple has apple rust and the two cedar trees next to it are covered in the same thing. How can I treat these trees? I’d hate to cut them all down!

  9. Janet says:

What about toenail fungus where the toenail is getting thick and yellow?

  10. Anno says:

I’m curious about toenail fungus as well.

  11. Deanne Ruppel says:

I’m wondering if this could be used for cats with ringworm?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

There are homeopathics specific for ringworm. This is not one of them.

  12. Aja says:

Hi Joette. I’m very new to homeopathy. One of my friend gave me your link so that I can read up on homeopathy and to search for remedies will help me eradicate the issue that I’m having. So I’ve been having these itchy bumps that first started on my arm (near inner elbow)then it spread to the upper arm and then the forearm. Then it spread to the whole left arm, then the right knee then down the shin, then the left shin, then the thighs, the calves, then the buttocks, then the lower back and the lower abdomen region sound my navel. At first, I thought they were bug bites from bedbugs but I didn’t find anything pointing to bedbugs. No one else had this intense itching and bumps except me so I ruled out the bedbugs. I noticed breaking in sweats and itching and scratching at night. It’s been about two months; I have tried all kinds of creams and nothing’s helped. I’ve tried putting coconut oil with sone peppermint, and it seemed to help a tiny bit but everything was still the same. I also noticed that after I consume beer or wine, I would itch and scratch profusely that I break off my skin—I do itch intensely at night too and end up scratching off skin. So I’ve been researching on the internet and thinking that this may be a fungal infection. Oh another thing, I noticed that I relocated to a hotter, warmer region and this got worse—and to top it off, I can’t sit or lie on my back for too long because then I start feeling sweat and the itch in my buttock or back and the legs. At first, I thought it was allergic reaction to detergent so I switched to sensitive skin one-that didn’t change anything. However, I had recurring episodes of yeast infection and UTI about 3-4 months ago and was prescribed antibiotics which I took. So the UTI went away. But I did start feeling like a UTI was coming on in early September, but I drank a lot of water and it went away. But the intense itching still continues and still have these itchy painful sores on my skin and scars from old ones. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE, and now my whole body is marked with these embarrassing sores and scars. What remedies would work for the symptoms I’m having, Joette? Please help! I’m in desperate need of a cure for this annoying condition that affected my ADL including sleep. Thank you very much!!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I don’t offer medical advice here. Instead, I teach how to take this on by encouraging folks to take my online courses. I urge you to look at the course, “Skin”. This is where I teach students to step by step, protocol by protocol on how to deal with many skin conditions including unknown origin type conditions and utilizing only symptoms that present to determine the remedy.
Go to my courses page and scroll down through the courses until you find the course on Skin.

I’m going through the same exact thing. It has been months. I’ll pray for us both, it is AWFUL.

  13. Fran says:

Okay, so I wanted to reply here just in case anyone could help me.

My husband has suffered from athletes his entire life. In the last couple of years he developed toe fungus, which is common when you suffer from athletes foot.
M we just finished Graphites for almost three months. I didn’t want to give up on week 8. We did not have results. After two weeks it looked a little bit better (I took photos), but now at the end of month three, it is back to being scaly and yellow and dry. Si we have stopped the Graphites Banerji protocol.

I think there is something underlying to begin with. I’m thinking of starting him on Merc sol to see what this does. I do believe it is a gut problem however I have not taken the gut course.

    Any thoughts?

  14. Sherry Beckman says:

My daughter gets cracks under her creases under her toes. It gets itchy and big blisters that eventually burst and it’s painful and itchy for her. Dr says it’s eczema? I really don’t know what to do! My poor girl. Could it be from swimming in chlorine? She also has clammy feet!

  15. CMTC says:

Is Merc Sol 200c safe pregnancy safe?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

I urge you to learn as much as you can about any homeopathic medicine you plan to use.
Read up in your Materia medica.
