The office phone rang, and my assistant directed me to pick up line 2.
“Hello.”
“He’s gone!” It was a female voice dripping with desperation.
“Who’s gone … and by the way, who’s calling?”
“It’s Sandy, Joette, and my son is GONE!”
My thoughts dashed to automobile accidents, and I braced myself for bad news.
Instead, she sobbed “I just dropped him off at college, and I don’t think I can handle this. I feel hopeless.”
Phew!
This call came about 10 years ago when all my sons were young and contentedly tethered to home.
Now I’m facing the same such feelings as Sandy, while my last baby trots off to his first year of college.
Inside, my heart is crushing.
I felt Sandy’s pain 10 years ago, but today I embody it.
When a crisis of sorrow or melancholy strikes others, it’s straightforward as to the remedy selection. But when it comes your way, it’s easy to mislay footing and forget what to do.
As a gentle reminder, fellow moms, the remedy Ignatia amara is the one to keep on hand.
Ignatia amara is known for its ability to soothe the pain of loss, longsuffering, grief or most any emotional ordeal.
I hail from a large Italian American family and my bottle of Ignatia amara has accompanied me to many wakes and funerals ready for someone who might be suffering needlessly.
Unlike meds of commerce, it doesn’t tamp down emotions so that nothing is felt at all.
Instead, it gently nudges the body’s ability to bring it round to a more rational perspective.
So, it was with these thoughts plaguing me of my son moving out of the house. A few doses of Ignatia amara brought me around to thinking.
“After all, I’ll see him most Sundays!”
When using a remedy such as Ignatia amara it feels so natural that one wonders if it’s the remedy or simply a better perspective.
It’s actually both!
As always, homeopathic remedies are not habit-forming, include no side effects and cost about $15 for a bottle that will last a lifetime.
They can also be purchased in a kit of the most common household remedies for about $2.70!
Lest you find me bawling my eyes out, please give me a knowing glance and pop four pills of Ignatia into my mouth.
Then offer the same to your friends. We mothers need to fluff up our nests and move forward with dignity.
Homeopathy can buttress that.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

My midwife has babies a few years older than mine.
I met her a few months ago, and we talked a minute.
Her oldest headed off for college. She told me she was taking Ignatia Amara– for the aching feeling in the womb.
I’ll try to remember…
For the moment, so thankful for “…young and contentedly tethered to home.”
Oh you don’t know just how much I needed this information today. I dropped my only son off this past Wednesday for school and I have not been the same since.
I’ve been keeping Ignatia Amara on hand since it was introduced to me after the loss of my daughter. It is the Best stuff for any grief related stress situation. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve given or recommended it to over the years. It is one of the remedies that I am Never without. I highly recommend it to anyone that is experiencing any kind of loss or even a disappointment.
Dear Joette – In our world of mass communication, I hope that you will connect a lot on Skype, cellphone and social networks like FaceBook. I will leave you with this quote from Kahlil Gibran, “Let there be spaces in your togetherness. . . ” Even though meant for lovers, it works for parents and children. They appreciate you ever so much when they have to fly out on their own. Perhaps he will call to ask how to make the kombucha or one of your other marvelous recipes; or ask how to help a friend in need with some homeopathic remedies? Love, Debby
This is so needed in today’s world. How many mothers are suffering needlessly, without support networks or homeopathy! I wish them both and I am grateful that when that time comes for me, I will be prepared!
Yes – Ignatia here I come! As a homeschool mom, I am not really ready to let go of that part of our lives. But divorce, being the “last one” and other pressures have her wanting to “try school”. I’m heart broken and tired. So, maybe this will help….
Wonderful to have a ‘go to’ when things get tough. Sure beats pharmaceuticals & their side effects.
The silver lining to seeing our children fly the coop is that they can become the wonderful adults they were meant to be!
Thank you! My youngest began kindergarten last week, and we’re in the process of moving also. This will help with my emotional roller coaster ride!
Sending you a hug Joette! I am already thinking about when my kids leave (one sophmore and one junior) and I am so glad you wrote this post! I think my Ignatia is my most valued remedy. I also think I might need it today as it’s the first day of school here!
I know the feeling, Joette! It was so hard to leave my daughter when she finished Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh after a 18 month study to do her internship at the Weston Hotel on Hilton Head Island, SC. She had just turned 19, 2 months earlier. As I fought back the tears driving away; I knew I would not see her for at least 6 months, but she would do alright and had a good future ahead of her. I didn’t know about Homeopathy then. Now, I am anxiously awaiting word from my “baby” who left yesterday to go to Croatia to meet with a girl friend that she worked with a few years ago. Now I know when I get home what I can pull out of my remedy box to help me thru it!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
What would the proper dosage be for someone dealing with grief and loss, for many years. I have a 17 year old son who has had much pain in his past. I would like to try this.
Thank you for sharing your personal story. Being an involved mom is hard… and wonderful!
Oh, Joette….. I have so been there. With all of my brood, including 2 grandkids and one on the way, all living near Scranton, PA while I am in Milwaukee, and our visits only twice yearly, I experience a continual longing for them like background music. It’s no longer the intense emotions of Ignatia, as it was in the year surrounding the moving out of each child, rather just a feeling that I am missing a part of myself. Indeed, I am! Some parents seem better able to embrace the empty nest, even enjoy it. Don’t think I’ll ever be there.
The words of Gibran resonate for me…..
“Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of life’s longing for itself. They come through you but are from you, and thought they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not their thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies, but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness.”
Take that Ignatia, and breathe…..
So timely!
Thanks for all that you do Joette! How often will Ignatia work for an old grief (worse since…)?
love this stuff i take 1 and wait 15 mins and take another if needed… it always helps…
Which potency?
Ignatia has saved me oh so often. I learned about it from Joette. I’ve shared it with so many. Thank you for being generous with your wisdom. You’ve changed so many lives!
