It makes me laugh — all the assumptions surrounding this illness or that. I hear them daily from my clients and students and must admit, recognize the ones even I believed in the past.

But I’d love to put an end to these unnecessary beliefs once and for all.

And luckily, homeopathy makes it easy to do just that.

It’s a neurosis: before you know it, you’re buying herbs, essential oils, drugs, and supplements by the bushel.

Stop trying to guess, theorize, and assume! It’s pointless; a fool’s errand. And honestly, when it gets to that point, I often recommend my clients take a good dose of Ignatia: http://joettecalabrese.com/blog/the-chatter-in-my-head/ before they drive themselves crazy!

This is what I hear:

“My skin is cracked and dry. It’s because I don’t drink a full gallon of water daily.”

Or

“My skin is cracked and dry because I’m not eating enough coconut oil.”

Or the most irritating:

“My skin is cracked and dry because my functional doctor told me I can’t methylate my B vitamins.”

STOP!

No more maddening assumptions and theories!

Is your skin dry? Cracking? Worse in the winter?

If so, the answer is simple: homeopathic Petroleum.

When it comes to parched, split skin that is often worse during the winter, reach for Petroleum 200, and use it once every other day until much improved.

There. It really IS that easy!

And lest you confuse homeopathic Petroleum with its gooey, crude, conventional counterpart found in a jar, remember that homeopathy utilizes a special method of dilution and succession that allows substances that would otherwise be toxic to become curative

And on a final note, if you have a history of having used the unsophisticated version of petroleum, this actually increases the likelihood of homeopathic Petroleum being a remedy that will prove useful to you.

I have written about Petroleum before in the past.  Just thought it's appropriate for winter conditions. Check out these two blogs for more information:

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

  1. Stephanie says:

Will petroleum work for dry cracked lips as well?

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

Unless you’re a duck or chicken, the lips are considered skin. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist)

  2. Christine says:

Thanks for assuring us that we don’t have to worry about the underlying cause (such as not methylating). I’ve been amazed at how our body’s symptoms can point us to a remedy that will reboot our software, so to speak, so that cellular function is righted.

  3. Kelley Williams says:

I would so love to hear more about your take on the whole “not methylating Bs” or the MTFHR issue. It’s EVERYWHERE now, and I’ve assumed it’s a non-issue with homeopathy. People are wasting so much time and money on this. 🙁

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

I cover this rather thoroughly in my course, “Allergic” and somewhat in Good GUt Bad Gut. I believe it is usually a waste of time and money because we already know that DNA is an issue. Unless you’d enjoy getting a confirmation of then it tells us nothing in relation to which homeopathics to choose.

      1. Judy says:

Are Mercury amalgams and hair tests for Mercury covered in any of the courses? I’m contemplating having them removed and I saw a blog with some remedies, but how would we know if we are Mercury toxic after taking without a test?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I am a firm believer in diagnostics from dentists and doctors. That’s the starting point.

  4. Rita says:

Used petrolatum and ditched petroleum and mineral oil products, but my cracked skin got worse. Any ideas of where to go next?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t think you understand that Petroleum 200c is not the same as using petroleum products. That’s the entire difference between homeopathy and using something in the gross form.

No surprise that your skin got worse. That’s why when Petroleum is diluted and succussed 200 times to the hundredth power that it corrects such.

  5. Rita says:

Make that Petroleum 200, not petrolatum.

  6. Anita says:

The link to Petroleum 200 – not available. I couldn’t seem to find it in general on Amazon. Only 30c, 6c by Boiron … would those work? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

See my responses to others with the same question.

  7. Ann says:

I am currently taking Ledum palustre 200c for a recent tick bite per the instructions in your post on Lyme. Can I take the Petroleum 200 at the same time for my horribly dry and cracking feet in this winter weather or will they interfere with each other?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In my courses I actually encourage folks to let loose and use more than one homeopathic at a time.

  8. Cindy says:

In the GGBG course, I believe the slide for dry cracked skin says to use Petroleum 200 2D, rather than eod. Would you use it more frequently if more severe or why the different frequencies? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are many ways to skin a cat. Additionally, when I have an entire course to explain how and when to use these medicines, we can be a bit more aggressive. In this setting I don’t have that luxury.

  9. Laura says:

Can Petroleum 30C or 6C be used? The 200 is not available on Amazon and I couldn’t find it anywhere else.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I use specific potencies because I know they work. Anything else you use may not yield the results I’m accustomed to witnessing. See my response to Rachel McE

  10. Rachel McE says:

All of the Petroleum 200c sold through Amazon.com are “currently unavailable.” In this situation, is there a protocol using a different potency of Petroleum? Or is there another place where I could find the 200c? Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’d not use anything but 200. Try Washington Homeopathics or Hahnemann Pharmacy.

      1. Cindy says:

I got Petroleum 200 from Washington Homeopathic Products. They’ve never failed me – they have everything I’ve ever wanted to order.

      2. Rachel McE says:

        Thank you!!

  11. Judy says:

Can petroleum work for dryness of the eyes and mucus membranes?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      For skin only.

  12. Krista Burke says:

Thank you for this article! I ordered the Petroleum 200CK through the link provided. It says to take every day, three times/day, but in the articles you have you talk about every other day. Should I take according to package directions?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you hope to experience the kind of results I’ve become accustomed to, you may use my information.

      1. Krista Burke says:

I am sorry, I am not clear what information you are referring to. I inquired because I am not clear how to dose it other than what the label says. Am I missing something? Every other day is vague. Does that mean one dose every other day? Or three doses in one day and then every other day. I would greatly appreciate your clarity. Thank you! I am so sorry if I am missing something in your articles.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When I say every other day, I mean one dose is given every other day.

  13. Mayda says:

I had the local store order petroleum. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize until I got home that it was 30 and not 200. Would you still recommend the 30 for treating dry skin? And what dose would you recommend? Ideally I’d get the 200 but with tight budget I’m… Oh I’m bummed.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve never used it in 30th potency. One way to know is to try it.

  14. Mary says:

My skin is dry because of hypothyroidism would petroleum 200 be helpful?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Although uprooting hypothyroidism is certainly worthy, it may not be the cause of dry skin. In any case, if the dry skin presents as I wrote in the article, it is certainly one of the methods that may help.

  15. Elisa says:

Would this be useful even for children? This winter for the first time, the skin on the back of my 9yo daughter’s hands turned to sandpaper, are a little puffy and easily irritated. Thank you!

  16. Patricia says:

Joette, I often like to print your blogs and I know there’s an option for a pdf version. However, the pdf version includes the photo (like the woman looking at her skin through magnifying glass) and printing the photo/graphic uses unnecessary ink. It would be extremely helpful if you could make it so that the pdf version is words only with no pictures or graphics. Ink cartridges are so expensive. Thank you.

  17. Jayne Jordan says:

Would Petroleum work for a dry scalp that also gets worse in the winter? I only have 3 or 4 spots on the back of my head that itch but even with turning down the water temperature in the shower, those spots drive me crazy in the winter.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Petroleum is often useful for dry scalp as well as overall skin.

  18. Angie says:

Hi I get flare-ups from bathing and in the winter is petroleum 200C good for that and how long should I take it thank you any advice is appreciated thanks again.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t’ offer personal advice but if you read the article again, it’s likely you’ll get your answer.

  19. Ani says:

Doctor, can the dosing frequency of Petroleum 200 be increased to daily or twice daily if there is severe dryness of lips

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You may use any homeopathic as frequently as you like but if you hope to observe the kind of results I have come to expect, its best to stay with the protocol.

  20. Christine says:

What if you have oily skin on the face but the most burdensome problem for dryness is the hands? And what about petroleum 30c? I currently don’t have 200c

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t consider conditions that are not pathological; only those areas that are problematic.
You may use whatever potency you like but if you hope to experience the kind of success that I’m accustomed to witnessing, it would behoove you to use the correct potency.

  21. Andy says:

Would petroleum 200c, as stated in the article, be useful for a sudden case of dry lips that is NOT present in the winter? Does it HAVE to be just winter season? Mine are dry but it’s spring. Another question is what if eczema is present or has been in the pass? Whether a flare or not a flare. Would that change the choice in protocol? Thanks, Joette!

  22. Tonya says:

Will this work for summer cracked dry heals! I go barefoot a lot on our concrete and the yard my heals are cracked and dry

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Pls. read the article carefully. I’m pretty clear on how I present these medicines.
