Sunburn

We love the warmth and sun of summer. But too much sun and heat can cause problems. Before you set out for a sunny excursion, be sure your remedy kit is stocked and ready!

One of the most common problems of overexposure to the sun, sunburn can be helped with one of the following remedies. Administer one dose every three hours until improvement is seen or less frequently depending on the severity of the burn.

Cantharis 30C – The premiere burn remedy, Cantharis 30 is used for a burning sensation that is relieved by cold applications. This is generally the first remedy to think of for just about any kind of burn. The more severe the affliction, the more frequently the remedy should be administered. A 200 potency is often highly recommended for more extreme burns and the frequency should be matched with the pain, swelling and other symptoms.

Urtica urens 30C – For burns with a stinging or prickly feeling.

Belladonna 30C – For red hot sunburn, perhaps with a pulsing sensation in the skin. This is for the sunburn that is REALLY red and hot.

The cell salts Ferrum phos 6X, Kali mur 6X and Kali sulphuricum 6X can be given in addition to the selected remedy. Administer one dose of each 3 to 4 times daily or less frequently, depending on the severity of the burn, for up to three days.

To soothe the skin topically, include aloe vera gel (directly from the leaf of the plant if possible), a vinegar bath consisting of one cup of raw vinegar in a bathtub of tepid water, coconut oil or unsalted butter.

My family’s favorite is coconut oil.

Meanwhile, dehydration can also occur around the time of too much sun. The best treatment is rehydration with water and electrolytes. The following concoction is my favorite for rehydrating or avoiding dehydration altogether. It is purer than sports drinks or Gatorade, and it’s tasty, too!

16 pills of Bioplasma

1/4 cup acidophilus bifidus yogurt or kefir

1/4 to 1/2 cup fresh lemon or lime juice

Maple syrup or raw honey to taste

1 teaspoon Celtic salt

1/2 cup coconut milk (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a gallon container and fill to the top with ice water. Shake well. This tasty beverage is mildly sour with a hint of sweetness. Always shake well before each drink.

If dehydration becomes extreme, try one of these remedies. Administer every 15 minutes until the symptoms diminish in intensity, then every 1-4 hours until significant improvement is seen.

Cinchona officinalis 30C (China) – For exhaustion and debility from loss of fluids. Indicators include digestive bloating, headache, sensitive scalp, flushed face, sensation of sand or pressure in the eyes and buzzing in the ears.

Phosphoricum acidum 30C – For mental and physical exhaustion, apathy, listlessness, pale face and sunken eyes, stumbling and milky urine.

Be prepared! Homeopathy helps keep you and your family on track for a safe and fun summer!

07/5/2014 Sunburn and Dehydration? Homeopathy Offers the Cure

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

This is a VERY helpful article for me here in Florida, especially with regard to dehydration. A side note about burns: we ate some seriously hot jalapenos the other day and I even got some of the oil on my face. It was miserable. Causticum 30 really helped.

  2. Danny Quaranto says:

Are you suggesting to dose at 1 pellet every 3 hours, or to dose with 1 pellet dissolved in some water and dosing with a portion of the liquid dilution every 3 hours? Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m saying that one dose is taken every 3 hours. a dose can be 1 pellet, 4 pellets, 6 pellets. whatever the bottle reads is one dose is good. Having said this, you can get any regular dose (any number of pellets) and dissolve them in about an ounce or so of water. from that, a teaspoon can be taken and that too, can be your dose.

    Hi,
A few years ago I read an article about healing burns with heat – like cures like – so this is something I’ve been experimenting with. It’s true, it works. For a bad kitchen burn I held my hand in the hottest water I could stand (it actually hurts less than cold after the initial impact) for about an hour, and the next day had the merest pink spot – no pain, no blistering. And my niece (a Dutch blond) says she always takes a very hot bath or shower for a bad sunburn and never peels. It’s amazing, and it’s not something I’ve ever heard of outside that article.

marg. interesting. will give a try sometime.

    2. Sherri says:

We also learned about this technique and have found it does work! Actually takes away the pain much quicker than cold water does. Of course, we also use Cantharis while we’re running the water. I have found to match the pain to the heat of the water. We only have to run the water just a few minutes and we’re done!

  4. Liz says:

Tis the season for this great information!

  6. Donna says:

Thanks for the great information. Being a light skinned blonde, (Italian!!)
I have suffered many a sunburn! A combo of homeopathy and Noni Oil is invaluable!

  7. Tanya says:

Love this information !! It is nice to know there are better options out there for me and my family.

  8. Erika says:

Does this help for dehydration from stomach virus?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would use it for any dehydration.

  9. Kimberly says:

Hi joette, for really bad sunburn how often can we give the belladonna 30c?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I guess you’ve not been under the winter sky!

I’ve used Belladonna 30 or 200 for a family member as often as every 2-3 hours until the pain got under control.

      1. Kimberly says:

Thanks Joette! We needed a little laugh 🙂

  10. Kate says:

What would you recommend for a brown spot the size of about 2 quarters from possible sun poisoning? It fades in the winter and seems to get a little darker in the summer even when covered most of the time.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t make recommendations on this forum. Should you be interested, I take personal cases via Zoom or you may take my course, Skin, the Ugly Truth.

  11. Barb says:

Joette my husband works out side now which he hasn’t in 30 yrs he drinks a lot of water but can’t get enough I want to try this but the yogurt is this homemade or can I get this in store he won’t use kefir he hates that thank u!!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homemade is great but there are a lot of great yogurts on the market today.

      1. Barb says:

        Ok great thank you!

  12. Kara says:

Can the 3 cell salts be taken at the same time? Or would you need to space them out?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I often mix 2-3 cell salts and take them simultaneously.

  13. Nelle says:

I’m so curious about hells itch- a sunburn reaction that I lives up to it’s name. At the time we moved from the north to Florida and hubby suffered the unbelievable torment of hell’s itch. I hadn’t learned homeopathy then and I used Benadryl and rags soaked in vinegar. That helped but now if I encounter it Id love to know what to add to cantharis if anything.
