Saving the Menopausal Woman with Homeopathy

 Isobel and menopause

“I love color,” Isobel said. “As a child I adored pink, yet as I’ve aged, red has enchanted me.

It’s the color of blood, especially in the sense of the healthy blush of vitality. Yet it also expresses the splendor of Christmas and even the racy color of sports cars.”

Isobel was 60, had raised a brood of five well-adjusted kids and was married to the same man for more than 35 years. (“He’s one happy guy,” she says, but she discreetly does not go into the details about that part.)

Isobel’s verve was expressed in her language, her dress, her home and her relationships. Nothing about this post-menopausal woman was boring. She had a firm hand on the tiller of her life.

She wasn’t always like that, however.

She related a time, about 15 years previous, when she felt that a storm had rocked her foundation. Isobel was not herself. Her skin showed signs of age, she needed support for a sagging figure, and her behavior was more than eccentric.

Her husband gingerly tip-toed around his tempestuous wife. Even their feisty little terrier cowered when she entered the room.

“I was a shrew and needed to be tamed, but the doctor I visited took that to mean I needed to be medicated,” Isobel says. “Truth be told, she was a drug pusher: hormones, patches, sleeping meds, anti-depressants.

Foolishly, I took the stuff because I thought I had no choice. I recall the doctor assuring me the drugs would correct a chemical imbalance and that there was no other way.”

After months of the prescribed “drug therapy,” a term Isobel now calls an oxymoron, she sunk into a state of emotional numbness that prevented her from experiencing life.

The doctor told her that the antidepressant would eliminate anger and depression.

But it was only a half-truth.

Like making a pact with the devil, Isobel had gotten tripped up on the jargon.

The doctor didn’t warn her it would cause a personality lobotomy. Instead of feeling hysterical, Isobel became pathetic and insipid. Instead of feeling depressed, she was emotionless.

When her daughter-in-law announced that she was pregnant with their first child, Isobel responded with a neutral “That’s nice.” Need I tell you that her family was concerned? Oddly enough, however, no one recognized that it was the drugs that had altered her personality since they all trusted the doctor’s advice.

Surely she would not have prescribed anything that would harm Isobel.

That trust was shattered, however, when the family went to the shore for a two-week vacation. Isobel left her meds behind, whether inadvertently or intentionally, it’s not clear, but it was all that was needed to redirect her course.

It wasn’t easy.

She went through withdrawal.

She succumbed to tantrums, couldn’t sleep and vomited, but even that was worth suffering through because, within a few days of abstinence, the family began to see glimpses of her old persona.

Unfortunately, Isobel’s anger and depression returned in a worsened state, and she knew she had to find another solution fast.

At last, her neighbor Sarah told her about a homeopathic remedy that had helped her through her menopause passage.

The neighbor said that she would not have been willing to part with the bottle had it been ten years earlier, but as she had completed menopause years ago, she gave Isobel what was left of the little pills.

“My homeopath told me to take this once daily for about thirteen weeks, and I noticed a shift after the first two weeks,” Sarah said. “It was just me minus the ugliness, not me in an altered state.”

Isobel wasted no time in taking the remedy.

She had been accustomed to using homeopathy to treat her children’s strep throats and ear infections when they were little, but she didn’t realize that homeopathy could help with something as formidable as menopause, depression and anger.

Yet, within a few weeks, her husband noticed that Isobel had begun to soften again.

She smiled at his teasing. She showed interest in life again, and her energy improved as her sleep was repaired.

She was Isobel again.

This marvelous little remedy was Ammonium carbonicum 200.

And it is specific to the passage into, through and out of menopause.

Originally derived from sesqui-carbonate of ammonium, commonly known as smelling salts.

When made homeopathically, it is especially powerful for menopausal women and has helped tens of thousands at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation. Since working there, I have seen firsthand its efficacy in helping women through menopause.

Ammonium carbonicum is also a remedy for chronic fatigue, mental sluggishness and feeling worse around and after menses. Dr. Margaret Tyler in Homeopathic Drug Pictures offers other uses. “There is relief from faintings and other neurological or cardiac symptoms, including heart palpitations that arise during the time of menopause.”

This is particularly interesting in that Ammonium carbonica 200 is derived from smelling salts.

Dr. James Kent, who wrote Lectures on Homeopathic Materia Medica reports, “The menstrual blood is blackish, often in clots, leucorrhea is acrid, and there is violent tearing in abdomen and vagina. There is a sensation of deep-seated soreness in the whole pelvic viscera; at times it seems as if all her inner parts were raw.”

I have also seen it restore marriages that seem irreparably damaged by the woman’s menopausal insistence that she no longer is attracted to her husband and wants to leave to “find herself”.

What I’ve noted time and again is that during this phase of a woman’s hormonal shifts, she can’t be convinced that she’s acting irresponsibly or thinking with her uterus, but that is often what is occurring.

A few rounds (say 13 weeks or so) and I’ve witnessed a change of heart towards the husband. Soon, the desire to own a life that is devoid of this particular man and his perceived drawbacks reverts to acceptance of a marriage worth saving.

In Isobel’s case, her passionate nature was forced into apathy by the anti-depressant drug.

It threatened to destroy her personality; in fact, to obliterate the very essence of who she was.

Indeed, if homeopathy were not available to right the wrongs, it would likely have been better to have simply put up with her outbursts for months, if not years, in an effort to save her from the scourges of chemical treatment.

For someone else who might not be subject to such intense emotions, the use of the same drug may have brought relief from anger only to cause depression to set in.

Do we really want to chemically tamper with human dials? I think not.

Like august and dignified architecture, our maturing bodies and minds hold treasured secrets.

We can take on the responsibility of being the master of these mysteries, or we can acquiesce to a patented, synthetic counterfeit inflicted upon us by an industry gone haywire.

Flying buttresses provided by the likes of spandex and underwire bras are at least a harmless way to bolster old age.

But chemical drugs are far more sinister than oversized falsies.

They eventually reveal themselves to be dangerous counterfeits. By the time we reach this age, authenticity is what we most crave. No one minds a telling patina as long as the soul behind it is intact.

Diana Vreeland, who became editor of Harper’s Bazaar at the age of sixty once said, “There’s only one very good life and that’s the one you know you want, and you make it yourself.”

Nature did not intend this transformational time to be a battleground.

Homeopathy helps the body navigate through the changing hormones without running aground. It offers a woman self-empowerment to put our hormonal house in order.

This morning, Isobel painted her toenails red. “I like to look down at them peeking through my shoes,” she said. “It reminds me of how vibrant life can be.”

I have been where you are now. I’ve dieted, taken supplements, bioidentical hormones, essential oils, and herbs – but nothing, nothing has ever come close to the reproducible, safe, and effective results I and my clients have achieved with homeopathy.

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I have an ever growing homeopathic kit and a trusty book that I use regularly but I have never been able to nail a remedy for these symptoms.

I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 34 due to a tumor on one of my ovaries and was immedidately thrown in to menopause. I have really struggled with HRT and have been on again, off again over the last six years, now on because my surgeon used the “at 60 your skin will look 80” card on me.

I’m going out to get some of this immediately and I look forward to seeing if I too enjoy some of the same benefits. Fingers crossed!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The reason you’ve probably not been able to find the remedy you need is because it is near to impossible to find information in books or on line that offer pathology specific information for chronic conditions. The Banerji Protocol that I use, teach and disseminate, however offers specifics for chronics and I love to give it away on this blog.

      1. Carmen says:

I hope Ella comes back and provide her experience with the remedy. To me the reason for the lack of information for symptoms post-hysterectomy would be due to the multiple levels of damage – be it structural (removal/alteration of pelvic organs, tissue, supports, etc.); biochemical (hormonal/endocrine) or neuro/circulatory (nerve and blood supply severing). This is so well beyond the natural phase and symptomology of menopause.

  2. Diane says:

    Wonderful!

  3. Hi Joette,

I have issues related to peri menopause including hot flashes, I’ll get some of the Ammonium Carbonicum but how much do I take and should I take it indefinitely? Would it interact with any other supplements I’m taking, such as evening primrose oil? Could it also help our daughter’s menstrual cramps?

    Thank you!
    Kelly

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The remedy discussed will not likely help with menstrual cramps as it is for menopausal conditions. As always, when it comes to homeopathic remedies, the number of pills is indicated on the side of the bottle. Usually between 3-6 pills is a dose and one dose daily is the method.
Homeopathy doesn’t interfere with supplements, vitamins or even drugs, however, you might find that they will become superfluous.

  4. Elizabeth says:

The article on the Ammon carb states a few weeks but doesn’t mention how many to take daily

wondering how many pellets you take for those 13 weeks? thanks!

*meant to say “how many pellets a day” for those 13 weeks.

  7. Joanne says:

    Hi Joette,
Thank you so much for this post and sharing all of you knowledge regarding the Banjeri Protocol. Along the same lines, I suffer from debilitating PMS, for 2 weeks out of every month. They have labeled it all different types of things, hormone imbalance, Ph.D, and recommend only drugs that ultimately turn me into a zombie. Similar to your friend Isobel. My main emotions are extreme rage and sadness. Is there anything in the Banjeri Protocol that can help me and my family live a normal life?
Thanks again for all you do to spread the word of homeopathy.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

PMS is the subject of another blog that I’m planning in the future. And yes, I’ll be including the remedies for what you describe.

  8. Cheli says:

Insane rages? Mood swings? ME??? No, I just bottle it all up and walk around miserable.
Yes, Joette, I think it is time for me to consider this remedy. Very timely posting. Thanks.
    Chel

    1. Martha says:

Hi Joette, Thank you for sharing this amazing case. I have been “studying” homeopathy by reading various books as well as healing my son and daughter’s acutes. I have a follow-up question regarding the menopausal woman case. If a person takes a remedy in a 200C potency daily for 13 weeks, isn’t there a chance they will start proving the remedy and possibly develop accessory symptoms from the remedy? Hope this makes sense. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Martha

  9. Melissa says:

Hi Joette, I am in peri-menopause and am still hopeful for another child. Would there be any problem in taking this if you are still open to God giving you another child? Thanks!

  10. Lucy says:

Thank you, thank you for writing this! Goodness knows, I so could have used this article five years ago instead of the various meds my doctors had me on. Can the Amm carb be of continued benefit at the post menopausal stage, esp. with the dry skin, etc.?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It really needs to be used during the passage through menopause with the accompanying symptoms.

      1. Shelley says:

Joette, can this remedy help with the muscle and joint pain that comes with peri menopause? If not, what can I add to the remedy for the muscle pain.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

We use medicines specific for the condition not the time of life.
Look for muscle and or joint pain on this blog.

  11. Katherine says:

I could have used this too. I’m also post menopausal. Would this work for me? I still have some symptoms, hot flashes and mood swings, though they aren’t as acute.
    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t say it whether it would be right for you, but when these are the main symptoms that a woman is experiencing then it could be a match.

      1. D. Smith says:

Well then, do you already have an article written to help us post-menopausal women, or will you be writing one soon or what? Many of us are post-menopausal and still have the same issues as the younger gals. If this remedy is of no help to us, why not mention something for ALL stages of menopause? I was disappointed there wasn’t some mention of that in this particular article because according to the title this isn’t about pre-menopause.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The medicine I discuss is useful for women who are experiencing menopausal issues that begin before the change, during the change as well as after. Although it will not cover all pre, during and post -menopausal conditions, it will help those conditions that Isobel suffered, regardless of what side of menopause you’re on.

As always, homeopathy deals with pretty specific conditions, so if there is dryness or if there’s a low thyroid, these conditions would also need to be addressed.

Presently I’m working on a new course that we hope to present some time later this year that will cover all female issues from childhood to old age.

  12. Tammy R. says:

Oh thank you, Joette!! Best Christmas present I could have got this year! 🙂 I ordered some already…. just waiting by the mailbox for them to come now.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  13. Jennifer says:

This is my story!! All you would have to do is change the names!! Where would I find Amonium Carbonica 200?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Just click on the the remedy and it will take you to Amazon where you can purchase it. Watch for this in all of my blogs from the last 2 years.

      1. martha says:

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It will only cause a proving if the remedy isn’t needed. That is, if it was not correctly chosen or if it is taken beyond the need. That’s why I always suggest that the case be reviewed after 6-13 weeks. If at anytime wellness is fully established before that time, its best to stop then.

  14. Melissa Fawley says:

Hi Joette! Thanks so much for all of the wonderful info you share with us. I am in perimenopause and am still within childbearing age. I was wondering if this would cause any complications with conceiving if God would bless us with another child. Thanks so much! I so relate to the part of the severe mood swings but the aching described by the doctor as well.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

This is only useful for a woman who is suffering from menopausal symptoms in the throws of it. If the symptoms are similar, but don’t present during actual menopause, then it is probably not the correct remedy choice. other remedies would be more suitable.

  15. Judy says:

Do you cover any of the Banjeri protocols in your e book, Cure Yourself and Your Family?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Not yet, but we’re working on a 2nd edition that will.

  16. Gay says:

    Hi Joette!

Will this remedy help prevent bone density loss that often happens after menopause?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m not aware of bone density protection from it, however I do love the idea of eating bone stocks daily.

  17. Kathy says:

    Joette,

I always love reading your blogs for their information, but this particular blog post is SO well written. I loved your play on words. I will file this info for later. I am 43 and b/c I foolishly took birth control pills in my 20’s I feel that my acceleration into menopause has hastened.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Thanks Kathy for your kind words. How foolish we ALL were. The synthetic birth control folly is something I feel strongly about and hope to write about soon.

  18. Debbie says:

    Hi Joette,

I have a question on dosing. You recommend usually using one dose, once a day for as long as necessary. However, the tubes of Boiron pellets usually call for 5 pellets 3x day. I have also gotten some remedies from Hyland that call for fewer pellets 4x day. What would you recommend?
And by the way, Merry Christmas and thank you for all your work. It is much appreciated!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Each remedy has multiple uses and the manufacturing pharmacy doesn’t know what you’ll be using it for. Knowing what the remedy will be used for gives us he opportunity to fine tune the directions.

  19. Diana says:

    Hi Joette,
I am having hot flashes and a irregular heartbeat seems to go with it. Will this help with the heartbeat?
Thank you so much for all your help!
    Diana

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are other measures to deal with the irregular heart and flashes. Should you be interested, you may call my office and set a time for us to speak without a fee. Then you can decide whether you’d like to work with homeopathy.

  20. That is such a lovely story and so true about the anti-depressants, which are highly addictive and only put a lid on the anger and depression, which doesn’t help one bit. Homeopathy always tries to bring symptoms out, NOT suppress them, so there can be resolution and cure.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Amen

  21. Geunita Ringold says:

Can Ammonium Carbonicum 200 be used along with antidepressants until such time as a person can ween themselves off the meds. I have taken meds for anxiety and irritability for years and got off them this summer when I was out of school (teacher) with relative ease, but I could feel my temper and impatience coming back and I have a particularly challenging group of students this year so I am back on them again. I am 55 and had my final period (I hope in August. It keeps coming back). I don’t have severe menopausal symptoms and the ones I had seem to be getting less. I would love to not take the meds, but I don’t like how mean I am without them.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, it can be taken along with medications, but its not likely the prudent remedy choice given the circumstances you describe. Amonium carb is not used unless the circumstances are specifically as result of menopausal conditions. Should you be interested in speaking to me to see if you’d like to pursue homeopathy, feel free to contact my office.

  22. Shelley says:

I turned 50 this year, am still menstruating, and have been having heart palpitations for over 5 years, on and off. Recently it’s been worse, almost every day. I was tested and have no physical problems, but was sent home without any answers to my problem. Somewhere I read it could be related to menopause. I was overjoyed to read in this article that Ammonium carbonicum 200 can help for this too!Thank you so much, Joette, for all the wonderful information you give. My family and I have been helped so many times since I started using homeopathy.

  23. Michaela Cielo says:

No I am a little bit confused after I read all the letters.
I already ordered the Ammonium Carb 200 but now I’m not sure if I should take it?
I had my last (hopefully!) period in February but the hot flashes for much longer than that. I’m also extremely impatient (which is really bad), sleeping problems – although not every night – and been depressed but I think it’s rather mildly.
It say’s on The bottle: Use for symptoms listed below. But the list is not on there?
So what now, shall I take the pills and how many or did I waste my money, I ordered 2 bottles.
I really would like the hot flashes go away. That is really annoying, especially in the summer when it’s hot.

    Thanks for an answer!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m afraid I’m not able to take your case on this forum and that is the only way to know whether this remedy is well chosen for you.
Additionally, since I don’t sell the remedies; I simply direct you to a source that will sell whatever companies are available at the time, I don’t know what company manufactured the bottles that you have. This precludes me from being able to comment on what is written on the bottle.

The number of pills that will constitute a dose is listed on the side of the bottle.

  24. Sheila says:

Thank you, very much, for YOU. It is so thrilling to be able to learn these things. How absolutely wonderful to have this blog as a resource. Thank you. Again. 🙂
    God Bless, Sheila

What a lovely thing to say! This is exactly what keeps me going…knowing that this helps families and people like you!

  25. Salvador says:

Anything about fibroids natural treatments? Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Fibroids and thickening wall of the uterus will be covered in forthcoming blogs and I’ll be teaching it specifically in my upcoming on line course, “Feminopathy: How YOU Can Correct Female Ailments Using Safe, Inexpensive and Effective Homeopathy”.

  26. Linda says:

I highly respect Homeopathy. I’ve always used a Classical Homeopathic Physician as our family doctor.
But in all sincerity homeopathic remedies…are not a one size fits all….especially the shotgun types for colds etc., that have several different homeopathic remedies in the vials….kinda a hit and miss mentality.
It can take, weeks, months and sometimes years to peel away all of the emotional, spiritual, physical layers of “illness”, and find the correct remedy that helps your body heal itself. I wish you all health and happiness….I’ve passed through menopause, tried bioidentical hormones, I have had Adrenal gland exhaustion, low thyroid, low iron…did the vitamins, Armour Thyroid, Cortisol for my Adrenals….spent years…beginning at age 15 with hypoglycemia & adrenal exhaustion….I’m now 57, with 3 grown kids…im not overweight…my menopause was over in 2008. I feel for each and everyone of you. Its so so difficult and trying to find an educated doctor is beyond hard. It is true that cholesterol is at the top of all your cascading hormones. Low fat diets are so unhealthy, especially for children. Peace be with you all….and good luck….this too shall pass.
    Linda

  27. Arunima says:

I stay in India, Kolkata and I was prescribed with the same medicine for cyst and occasional spotting . But my dose is different. I was said to be taken 2 drops at an interval of 10 days. And I too took the medicine fron P Banerjee’s clinic.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

P Banerji is not Prasanta Banerji. Different doctor, different method.

      1. Arunima Chatterjee says:

I have PCOS and my cysts are around 0.4 to 0.6 mm in diameter. last 2 months I am noticing spotting in between periods. Do Ammonium Carb 200 help in spotting??

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t know of using AC for PCOS. However, should you be interested, I teach specific protocols and methods for this condition in my course “Feminopathy: How You Can Correct Female Ailments Using Safe, Inexpensive and Effective Homeopathy”

  28. Rita says:

After all, is Ammonium Carbonicum even for menopausal hot flushes?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are better-chosen homeopathics specific to hot flashes. AC is a generalized choice.

      1. LAURA MCCOY says:

can you give some examples of better homeopathics specific to hot flashes please?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It would behoove you to consider taking my online course titled “Feminopathy” where I offer not only the top most efficacious medicines but their potencies, frequency of use and how to stack them with remedies in a schedule with concomitant problems.
Having said this, here are my fav’s: Sepia, Gloinnum, Sulphur, Lachesis, Pulsatilla.

  29. Mick says:

Joette, I was going through my GGBG notes and noticed that the menopause protocol there says to take Ammonium carb 2D. In the above article, the protocol is 1D. Is one better than the other, or is it a play-it-by-ear thing? Thanks for all you do!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve used it both ways but when I offer information to the general public without the benefit of a full course, I often error on the side of being conservative.

  30. My name is Gina, I’m 60 and I need help to get off HRT and would like to use Homeopathy to do so.
How can I call fir an appointment, I don’t seem to see a number.
    Thank you

          Go to Course.JoetteCalabrese.com

  31. Tammy says:

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy in 2005 due to a very enlarged uterus and terrible fibroids. They left my ovaries and cervix. I have been taking bio identical hormones for most of the time since. I am 55 now and still get hot flashes both day and night. Would this work for this situation or what would you recommend?

Hi Joette, I’m curious the dosage in this remedy if I were to use it for fainting spells. Coincidentally, I am in the throws of menopause at only age 42 (I started symptoms at 38) and I also suffer from fainting spells whenever I see blood or somebody really injured. While I don’t present the exact symptoms of Isobel, I am experiencing being emotionless, mental sluggishness and or brain fog, not being able to focus on someone talking to me without my “to-do” list running in the head and knowing the word I want to say but I just can’t recall it in the moment of conversation. If I took this remedy for my menopausal symptoms at one dose a day for 13 weeks, would it also cure my fainting spells? Or do you take them when a fainting spell is coming on? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It would take a bit more than one medicine to cover the list of conditions you describe.

  33. Kate says:

    Joette!
Thank you so much for your generous sharing of greater well being !! Much love and deep appreciation ,
    Kate

  34. Kate says:

Joette, thank you so much for this !
I’m currently taking Caulophyllum 2x day and every 3 hours for Menorrhagia as well as sepia 200 every alternate day for menopausal symptoms and arnica 3c for flooding. All according to your suggestions and the Banerji protocol. Is it okay to add ammonium in the mix? Thank you for all you share. You are a gift!
Blessings to you and your family,
    Kate

  35. Manisha Kanojia says:

Will Ammonium carbonicum Protocol help Perimenopause Hormonal Sleep distress too?and Restore Regular Sleep even though Perimenopause periods are On Going every month?

  36. Donna Hughes says:

Is there a protocol for PCOS for young women who haven’t had any children? (She is 37, newly married and has had one miscarriage. She wants to have children. She was on the PCOS protocol after her miscarriage for one month, but proved Sepia (headaches) so I had her stop the protocol. There is no 2nd line protocol in the Feminopathy course, and even the ovarian cyst protocol uses Sepia. She doesn’t always ovulate, has fatigue, acne and low libido. Can Conium 3 or Thuja 30 be used without Sepia in a case like this?

    1. Donna Hughes says:

I should have added that she has cramping and cysts on her right ovary.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When two medicines are mixed, they make a new one.

  37. LAURA MCCOY says:

can you give some examples of better homeopathics specific to hot flashes please?

  38. Karen says:

Hi Joette, since this medicine is not in your Materia medica, I am looking up the differences between Ammonium Carb and Sepia. Ammonium carb says it is good for entering perimenopause and all the way through the end of menopause. Thus, would Ammonium Carb be a good “base” 1D if one has already started missing periods? Lachesis as needed for hot flashes and perhaps Sepia once a week, as talked about on other blogs could be useful to reinstate your cycle? Late 40s, already had children, no birth control, just changes with hormones and excessive weight gain.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’ve made good selections and your rationale is sound but if you want to learn how to tease apart the differentials more thoroughly, consider my online course “Feminopathy”.

  39. Karen says:

Thank you, Joette. Yes that is my next course to study and maybe a consult too. I appreciate your response.

  40. radha says:

Thank you for the info. One question regarding this remedy. it says that ammonium carbonicum is until the end of menopause. I am 62 and still suffer from menopause symptoms when I try to get off the HRT pills which I have been taking since 8 years for anxiety, gut problems, hot flashes ect. My question, would this still work, even at my age? I want to get off HRT but cannot due to the severe flareups of menopause symptoms

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t tell you if a medicine will act for you. But when someone is taking drugs for a specific condition, more is involved. I urge you to learn how to approach female conditions particularly when there’s more than a simple case by taking my online course Feminopathy.

  41. suzanne says:

I tried sepia for hot flashes alternating with feeling chilly. but got a bad reaction, and needed to antidote with camphor. would ammonium carb help with hot flashes/fatigue/muscle aches, due to messed up hormones from HRT? I understand you have a feminoapthy course, but I already bought the GGBG course and now have no money to take another one, especially since job loss has been bad during these “difficult” Cov-times.

    1. Tonya says:

      What reaction did you have

  42. Annie says:

Thank you for your time and info Joette, I’m wondering if this remedy will work for me, I am 61 and postmenopausal since age 56 with few menopause symptoms but recently suffering from hot night flushes/sweats, incredible weight gain (no change in diet) I exercise and eat a healthy well balanced diet, no sugar or dairy but most distressing of all I suffer from chronic facial acne vulgaris, the breakouts are so bad I feel I can’t show my face in public and rapid aging, full body skin sagging, hoping this remedy might help with weight and acne??

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

What you describe is more involved than one simple remedy but if you read up on it in your materia medica you might find that it may suit you in some ways.

  43. loraine says:

I’ve been on hrt for 9 years and seriously need to come off of it but oh boy… tried before and the hot flushes, night sweats and insomnia almost made me insane. Joette could you please give a protocol on how to stop hrt and the supporting remedies PLEASE

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I strongly urge you to consider my online course Feminopathy where I lay out precisely how this is done.
      You’ll find it here:

  44. Maureen says:

Joette Calabrese This was very helpful. Several years ago I was diagnosed with lichen sclerosis, my Dr believing it was brought on eith the onset of menopause along with alopecia. The alopecia reversed itself after 2 years however LS did not. I have been told although rhe medical field does not understand this condition fully they currently consider it to be an autoimmune condition. They have no “cure” only a lifetime of high potency steroid treatment to keep it under control. I am wondering if the feminopathy course would be helpful or if there is another one I might find better matched?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I cover L.S. in my course titled “Skin, the Ugly Truth”.

      1. Maureen says:

        Thank you!

  45. Sharman Bateman says:

Thank you for all you do to encourage us to heal ourselves and our families with homeopathy! It has been a blessing in mine and my family’s lives. As I read through this article and the comments, I am very appreciative of your advice. I’m wondering if you would consider addressing a blogpost on post menopausal women and the physical struggles they face. Your knowledge and wisdom in this matter would be so very appreciated.

  46. Amy Runkle says:

I’m curious if after you take 13 weeks of the remedy and saw improvement if you can repeat doses as needed if symptoms come back even though not as intense. I reread the blog post and it stated it helps while going in and through menopause. I’m 51 and after my 13 week doses, I feel slight symptoms creeping back in at times. I was thinking when that happens I could take a dose as needed?

  47. Kimberley Ladd says:

Hello Joette!! I miss leading the Gateway Groups! If one is already on Sepia (late 40’s), should this remedy be stopped and Ammonium Carbonicum replace Sepia if symptoms you discuss match. MUCH THANKS for all you do and I hope your knee is much improved!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

THe important factor is whether the medicine is acting or not. If its not then it’s useful to consider moving on.
I hope you’re studying from my online course “Feminopathy” by going to JoettesLearningCenter. It will give you a much clearer picture of how to deal with case management.

  48. Mechtild says:

Can perimenopause cause neurological symptoms? Can homeopathy treat any neurological symptom?

      yes
