Measles!

I posted this blog in 2013, after the story broke of a church congregation in Texas that had a high concentration of measles among its unvaccinated members. I have never seen a follow-up. Has anyone?

“A measles outbreak in Ohio has reached 68 cases, giving the state the dubious distinction of having the most cases reported in any state since 1996, health officials say.” USAToday.com, May 13, 2014.

Stories of outbreaks and epidemics always strike fear in the public, and that is when the walls begin to rise between the vaccinated and unvaccinated camps.

Little boy with measles

Yes, there are rare situations in which children die from complications from diseases such as measles, and of course, no one wants to see their children suffer with illness.

But isn’t it possible that we have traded what was once a normal childhood disease for chronic conditions that, until this vaccinated generation, were never seen in children?

You know … illnesses such as cancer, autism, Asperger’s and such.

I had measles. So did all my friends and relatives. We survived. And so did our mothers.

They weren’t scared out of their wits by those who declared it a dangerous disease. Everyone just simply got it and got over it.

Indeed, it seems that measles became a wicked disease once the vaccine became available.

In his book How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor, Dr. Robert Mendelsohn says, “Doctors maintain that the inoculation is necessary to prevent measles encephalitis, which they say occurs about once in 1,000 cases. After decades of experience with measles, I question this statistic and so do many other pediatricians. The incidence of 1/1000 may be accurate for children who live in conditions of poverty and malnutrition, but in middle and upper-middle-income brackets, if one excludes simple sleepiness from the measles itself, the incidence of true encephalitis is probably more like 1/10,000 or 1/100,000.

After frightening you with the unlikely possibility of measles encephalitis, your doctor can rarely be counted on to tell you of the dangers associated with the vaccine he uses to prevent it. The measles vaccine is associated with encephalopathy and with a series of other complications such as SSPE, which causes hardening of the brain and is invariably fatal.”

So, does this mean that we just let our child get measles?

Since conventional medicine has no way of treating the illness, then I guess the choice is to either get the vaccine or just let our kids get sick.

But wait! We have the Banerjis in Calcutta who see more than 1000 cases per day, each doctor personally seeing 100 each day, five days per week. Having observed the Banerjis in their world-famous homeopathy clinic shoulder to shoulder for close to six weeks, I am humbled.

After decades of my own study and experience, I bow to this species of clinical experience.

I have 26 years of education and experience in homeopathy; I possess a large library of materia medicas and repertories.

And with all of this information at my disposal, I keep the Banerjis’ book, The Banerji Protocols, on my desk and refer to it daily. I also have copious notes taken during my time studying with them. I will share with you what they have shared with me.

 The Banerji Protocol for Measles

“Measles and rubella are viral infections and have their own course. Suppressive medicines should not at all [my emphasis] be given, as they cause many complications. The protocols given below are completely safe and reliable.”

First Line of Medicines:

  • Bryonia alba 30C pellets, two doses daily
  • Belladonna 3C in liquid for high temperature, one dose every 30 minutes until the temperature is stable
  • Ipecac 30C, one dose every hour if necessary for accompanying colds and coughs

 Second Line of Medicines:

Isn’t it lovely to learn that for every argument presented by one court, there is a corresponding solution ready in another? Ferreting out the answers is what smart mothering is all about!

P.S. Would you would like to learn more about how to be prepared for epidemics and other crises, as well as all types of first aid situations and sourcing these remedies?  Then you need my course The Survivalist Guide to Homeopathy. Learn more about how homeopathy is THE medicine for when the SHTF. I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

I had measles as a child and survived. Reading Joette’s perspective I now see the debate from another angle. It’s all about educating ourselves to make good decisions.

  2. Spike L. says:

People are too easily manipulated by the fear perpetuated by the greedy pharmaceutical companies. It’s always on us to educate ourselves and to be aware of the constant attempts on the part of the corporations to subject the public to their agendas. We certainly can’t rely on the media to tell the truth.

  3. Pete says:

I grew up in the 1980s and no one ever had the measles. I have had to change my paradigm about these diseases, but it makes sense that they shouldn’t be feared and probably do have health benefits for having them. Thank you for sharing this information.

    1. megan says:

i grew up in 70 and 80 and never heard of it being around but wonder how often it was and nothing was said. or they called it something else to cover up… like polo is called something else here to cover it up.

  4. Courtney says:

Thank you for such a calm approach to the measles hysteria! Thank you also for sharing the Banerji protocol!

  5. Kristen says:

I had measles as a child, too. I remember hearing my mom talking with her friends about getting together all of the neighborhood kids once the first child came down with measles. Then all the kids would be exposed, everybody would get measles and get it over with. We all survived just fine, thank you, and our immune systems were educated quite nicely from the experience.

  6. Bethany says:

When I first heard about this in the news, I knew you would have an answer! I wish I had a large desktop book written by you Joette!

  7. DebbyBruck says:

Dear Joette – Thanks for bringing in your experience working with Dr Banerji in India. We come from a previous generation when certain childhood diseases were part of growth and development. Over time, fear of all disease damaged our understanding of beneficial aspects of illness and living in harmony with nature. Many people, researchers and physicians now realize how our immune systems develop when gently challenged by contagious disease. Blessings, Debby

  8. Jill C says:

Is the child pictured on the healthy side, or does measles cause some edema?

  9. suzy0005 says:

Homeoprophylaxis (homeopathic immunization) is also an option. Cilla Whatcott and Kate Birch are now utilizing this approach in their Minnesota clinic following the lead of Dr. Isaac Golden who studied and used homeoprophylaxis for 15 years in Australia. He was also helpful in the Cuban homeoprophylaxis program that’s data speaks for itself with regard to Leptospirosis.

We no longer have to live in fear of the vaccines, nor the diseases they inoculate against.

    1. fear is the motivating factor that stimulates poor decisions in parenting.

i have reviewed Cilla and Kate’s book in a few venues such as Amazon Books. it is an important book that belongs on the shelf of every household library.

thank you for adding this info. pls read my previous blog on this book.

  10. LuAnn says:

Question, please. I recall learning years ago that aconite is almost a specific for the treatment of measles. Do you still recommend that or is this protocol preferable? Thank you!

    1. i don’t have personal experience with measles, so i can’t say that one method or remedy is more valuable than an other in my own experience. at the onset of any infectious disease, even before we identify what it is, particularly when it’s ushered in with gusto, i’d always consider Aconitum first. If nothing else, its a sturdy place to start. however, i must bow to the clinical experience of the Banerjis. no one in the West has had this kind of experience.

  11. Laurie says:

I had German measles and red measles and many other sicknesses. I also grew up with a single mother basically on welfare with a number of siblings. I was always sickly but I survived. I am now in my 50’s and working with an experienced homeopath and trying to educate myself on how to help my children and unvacinated grandchildren.

Thanks to people like Joette for encouraging us!

  12. Donika says:

I was immunized for measles and then caught the disease from the vaccine. I was fortunate; my youngest child was vaccinated and became autistic within 2 weeks of the immunization.

  13. Liz says:

Thanks for posting this. It’s crazy that there aren’t more voices out there singing a similar song. This speaks to how strong the propaganda has been by the very powerful medical establishment. Thanks for raising your voice!

  14. Katy McLaughlin says:

    Dear Joette

Can immunity to measels be obtained through homeopathy? I am an RN who is non immune to measels. My employer wants me to take the immunization and I keep refusing. Is there a proven homeopathic that when taken would stimulate my antibodies so that on a blood serum test I become “immune” to measels?

    1. joette says:

if you’re asking if it will heighten your titers, i have no experience with this. however, i’m certain you’d be interested in my blog https://joettecalabrese.com/blog/book-review-of-the-solution-homeoprophylaxis-the-vaccine-solution/

  15. Marilyn says:

My sister and I both had German measles and lost hearing from it. Can I unravel this?

    1. joette says:

homeopathy has been shown to uproot hearing loss from a myriad of causes including infectious diseases. feel free to call my office, if you’d like to schedule a time to speak to me on this subject.

      1. megan says:

WOW i was impressed before with homeopathy. for it to fix some hearing problems, WOW

  16. Erica says:

I developed the measles and the mumps after an MMR revax in college. I was so sick. My immune system was destroyed and I began a lifelong struggle with chronic fatigue, exercise induced anaphylaxis, allergies to all foods, nuts, seeds, trees, and grass, IBS, and a host of other problems. My daughter also developed the measles after her MMR vaccine at 18 months old. She then began hitting herself in the face and developed sensory integration disorder and ADD. Given the chance to do it over again, I would take the opportunity for wild measles! Thankfully, homeopathy has gone a long way in restoring both of our health.

  17. Deborah says:

Thanks for another great post, Joette. I admire your courage to speak up about this topic!

  18. watchmom3 says:

Thank you for this. I read that article about the church and who was said to be affected, and I could not believe that horrible, rude and bigoted remarks against homeschoolers like myself and against those who do not wish to toxinate/vaccinate. Thank you for bringing clear thinking to this subject. God bless.

  19. Brooke says:

This is great info, but where do you get these weird medicines? The only one I’ve heard of is Ipecac and I thought that was to induce vomiting when you ate something you shouldn’t. I definitely want this book, but won’t do much good if the meds it recommends are not available. Just curious about where to get them.

    1. joette says:

In the US, homeopathic remedies can be purchased at Walmart, Walgreens, Whole Foods, most health food stores from certain pharmacies and we sell kits in our office that include the top most used remedies in a household. In Europe, South America and India, homeopathic remedies are ubiquitous.

      1. Hayley says:

Homeopathic remedies can also be purchased on Amazon, as well as The Vitamin Shoppe… just to add to Joette’s list above.

  20. Beth L. says:

There have been more and more advertisements and news stories about vaccinations lately, including measles and shingles. As much as I don’t want to think about it, it’s right in our faces and we need to educate ourselves.

  21. Karen says:

I feel the same way about Chicken Pox. I got it, and got it bad. But I lived, so did all my friends, cousins, siblings, etc. But now someone makes parents think (scares parents into believing) that our kids will die from the Chicken Pox.

  22. laura says:

Can you also share the protocol for chicken pox?

  23. Midwife Diane says:

When it says “Belladonna 3c in liquid” does that mean the pillule form should be dissolved in liquid, or does it mean a homeopathic 3c tincture?

Heard from a doctor today stating that this year Texas is on track to have the highest rate of whooping cough in 50 years. There’s another protocol I’d like to see… Can’t wait for that book!

  24. Katie says:

In the measles protocol listed above, what do you mean by doses? Do I just follow the directions on the bottle? Are those doses? Also, can you explain First Line of Medicine and Second Line of Medicine? I’m new to all this. Have purchased the book on Homeoprophylaxis.

  25. a dose is what is written on the outside of the bottle. some manufacturers consider a dose to be 4 pellets while others who make smaller pills, consider a dose to be 6-8. first line means that is it the place to start and if there’s no improvement after days, it is time to consider going to the next level or 2nd line.

  26. Pete says:

How would you handle non vaccinated children being around pregnant women, as rubella is dangerous to the fetus?

  27. first i believe it is the responsibility of the pregnant mother to learn if she’s immune or not to Rubella. most OBGYN’s used to test for this.

the mother is also able to get the vaccine before she gets pregnant if she plans ahead and finds out she hasn’t an immunity.

    http://www.childrenshospital.org/health-topics/conditions/congenital-rubella

according to the above report, only 30-60 cases of rubella are reported per year (in the U.S.) with less than 5 cases of congenital rubella .

Having said this however, in the obvious interest to the unborn baby, if a child who is sick with rubella, is going to be spending time with a pregnant woman who who sees a sloppy obgyn, who is in her 1st trimester of her pregnancy, the responsible thing to do would be to make the pregnant mother aware of the fact that your child is not vaccinated against rubella and is presently ill so that the child and pregnant woman can be duly segregated.

also, the child could be tested for titers indicating whether he has developed immunity to the disease. then there’s little to no chance of him giving the disease to the pregnant mother.

It goes without saying who is ultimately responsible for the unborn baby, but in our society today, that has become blurred.

  28. Rachel Humphrey says:

I have a tend to believe we are teaching our bodies to rely on Vac. to protect it’s self. We are not REALLY exposed to anything there for with bigger things come around our bodies don’t know how to protect it’s self. measles and mumps and chicken pox use to all be normal growing up things. The flu with I was little wasn’t something you protected against. You got the flu each year normally and got over it and didn’t normally get it again that year.

  29. Kathy Jackson says:

What does first line mean vs second line of medicines. Does this mean if the first doesn’t work use the second or does it mean something else?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In a nutshell, that’s what it means. However, having some understanding of homeopath, overall laws of health and of what you’re treating will help keep you more on track. i find that most folks expect homeopathy to work quickly for chronic illness. that generally isn’t the case. it will act swiftly in acutes, such as ear infections, sore throats, etc., but if the goal is to uproot a chronic condition it could take months; sometimes many months, so don’t assume that because complete wellness isn’t restored that you’ve chosen incorrectly. instead, watch for little signs of improvement. look around the edges and uncover every stone. this requires detailed note taking so that you have a reference point from which to compare.

  30. Laurie says:

What do you think about the mandatory TDAP vaccination of all sixth graders? Is it wise to skip this one? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m not comfortable recommending such. I urge you to contact National Vaccine Information Center at http://www.nvic.org/. Also, order DVD’s frm Dr. Sherry Tenpenny’s site on the subject of vaccines. After doing some homework, I’m sure the answer will be clear to you.

  31. Carrie says:

I would love your suggestions in light of whooping cough, since that has been shown to be re-emerging, even among the vaccinated and we just came through what seemed to be our own round of it…
    Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ll write about it soon. Thanks for the remainder.

  32. Liz says:

Great information. It’s too bad there is such fear factor around children getting measles. When will the fear factor about children getting autism or being chronically ill by their teens set in?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re right. This is one of my bones of contention. Pediatricians are quick to frighten parents about the dangers of illnesses, but not their vaccines or treatments. Its unscientific to dismiss an entire side of an argument.

  33. Jamie says:

Great article Joette! I look forward to all of your postings and save them because I inevitable return to them soon after to reference something for myself or others. Thanks for taking the time to publish these. They’re well used:)
I’d love to get a copy of the book : The Banjeri Protocols. I saw that Amazon has a link to purchase it but wondered if you have considered selling copies. If so, I’d be interested in purchasing.

    Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t sell the book but urge you to consider it from Amazon.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m happy you’re using this info. I want to spread it far and wide. pls pass it on to your Facebook friends, neighbors, colleagues, etc.

  34. Shannon says:

I think it’s unfortunate, but most public school systems require all the shots, updates etc…to be in school. If you don’t have them because you choose not to, you almost have to go to court to make them let your child attend what is the right of every child in the US!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You might want to check out your rights in greater detail. Its only unfortunate if you don’t learn the laws. I urge you to contact the National Vaccine Information Center to become fully educated.

  35. Beth L. says:

Interesting, this is a new way of looking at this topic. I think I will study it more. Thank you, Beth

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If at any time you’d like to learn more about the courses I teach on line or CD’s, downloads, charts, and other educational devices that are specific to mothers, feel free to contact my office and ask for Jill. She’ll find the perfect fit for you and your pocketbook.

  36. Joy says:

I had chicken pox and mumps as a child in the fifties. My sister and brother had measles, but for some reason I never got it. (I hadn’t been vaccinated–it didn’t exist then). I remember that my mother wished I would get measles, as she knew it would be easier to have it as a child than as an adult.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Your mother is wiser than most pediatricians.

  37. Ginger says:

What is your view of using homeopathic Morbillinum to possibly keep from getting measles? Is this suppressive?

  38. Jamie says:

    Hi Joette:)
Thanks for posting this valuable information! I always feel reassured after visiting your site! Quick question though about the Banjeri first line of defense on this. It mentions Bryona 30c along with Ipecac 30c for accompanying cough and cold symptoms. It was my understanding that using more than one 30 potency remedy (or higher) at a time could negate the other. Do I have this wrong?

Thanks in advance for your time:)

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The Banerjis have used combined remedies with the same or different potencies as high as 200c for over nearly a century and a quarter. It not only doesn’t negate, the method works faster and more thoroughly. Hypericum 200 mixed with Arsenicum 200, they call HyperArs, is a most remarkable medicine for deep tissue infections such as osteomyelitis with fistulas. Antibiotics can only rarely reach this kind infection but this remedy does. Their method can’t be beat!

  39. AplJaks says:

I am sharing this article with many others as a new outbreak allegedly has surfaced. To be prepared in case of need is empowering. Many thanks to Joette. Your intro class was excellent, even though I had studied classical homeopathy for 10 years prior to learning these new protocols.

  40. Georgia says:

Hi Joette. There is an oubreak of meals close by and neither of my kids are vaccinated. Can i give the first line of defense of Bryonia? Can i give this daily until they measles outbreak subsides?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Some folks use that method.
