You’re about to head off on a wonderful summer trip. Don’t let the dread of jet lag dampen your fun. Fortunately for you, homeopathy can work wonders for relieving this unpleasant condition.
We can think of jet lag as a disruption of the body’s internal balance. Restoring equilibrium and setting things to right is exactly what homeopathy does best. And most importantly, it does it gently.
The next time you travel across multiple time zones keep the following list of remedies handy. Once you’ve determined the remedy that best fits the totality of your symptoms, take a dose in the 30th potency every 3-4 hours or more frequently if the situation is more severe.
Arnica
This is the premier remedy for any type of trauma. Jet lag may not seem like an injury, but it does wreak havoc with the body’s internal clock. A feeling of weakness and soreness is present because the person is so tired.
Cocculus indicus
A person needing Cocculus experiences nausea or dizziness in addition to the extreme fatigue of jet lag. In order to avoid vomiting, she is forced to lie down. Although this person is tired, she reports feeling too tired to sleep. Fresh air, food and drink make the condition worse.
Gelsemium
The keynotes of the remedy Gelsemium are feelings of exhaustion and mental dullness. Extreme prostration is also noted. We can therefore think of this remedy for jet lag where the tiredness is so extreme that there is almost a sense of paralysis because the person needing this remedy has such difficulty even getting out of bed.
Nux vomica
Think of Nux for case of jet lag where the disruption in the body’s internal cycles manifests itself in constipation or gastrointestinal disturbances. Irritability may be marked along with sleep problems.
Now that’s you’ve brushed up on what remedies to use for jet lag, you’re ready to hop on that plane. Here’s one more homeopathic tip before you go. Dissolve a few tablets of the homeopathic cell salt Nat mur 6x in water and mist your face during the flight. Nat mur is made from sodium chloride, the same mineral in our bodies that regulates moisture balance. This little gem in your water bottle will help you stay hydrated and feel refreshed as you make your final descent to your destination.
Happy travels. Just remember to take homeopathy with you!

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

What is the best way to protect your remedies when traveling, since we have to go through various scanners at different airports? I have heard that wrapping them in aluminum foil protects them. Thanks, Judith
I put my remedies in my checked baggage. I have heard reports that remedies that have been Xrayed seem to still work, but if you were extremely concerned you could place your remedy kit in a bag designed to protect photographic film from scanners.
Pack your remedies separately and at security, explain what they are and ask them to be hand examined, and not x-rayed. As long as they have not yet been put in water, you’ll be fine. If they are in water, they need to be in a bottle 3 oz or less. If you have 3 oz in an 8 oz bottle, that doesn’t float with them)
Thanks so much! This just might come in handy. I’m guessing it will work in the fall as well as summer. 🙂
Some thoughts come to mind as I read.
Since symptoms are mentioned as a guide to determine the best remedy, it seems clear that the travel has already taken place.
1) I’m wondering if there are remedies that can be taken prophylactically to prevent or minimize the symptoms, besides the in-flight spritzing (or misting).
2) Then too, I’m wondering how the remedies fare going through the x-rays–whether carry-on or checked.
Then just to be not caught off guard, if the water bottle for spritzing the face is larger than 3 oz (or whatever the current requirement is), the bottle may need to be filled with water obtained after going through security.
Arnica! Love that stuff!
I’ve not tried them prophylactically because the remedies work so quickly when the symptoms come on, but I could see that it has the potential for working. However, you’d need to know in advance what the symptoms would be. In other words, if you’re a seasoned travel who suffers constipation while traveling, then certainly Nux vomica might be in order pre-trip.
It has been reported that remedies still seem to work after x-ray exposure, however, I always take extra precautions and check them in my luggage. Since they recently seem to be x-raying that luggage as well, I’ve learned from some that they put them in a photographic film bag that is protective.
Having just travelled I can attest to Arnica and Nux Vomica helping us feel refreshed and physically after our long trip. We took Arnica on the plane and Nux Vomica upon arriving. We also took the cell salts Nat Mur and Ferrum Phos (to help prevent getting sick). I think they all served us well!
What about any remedies for the infamous ear popping when flying? I’m flying with my toddler next week and am wondering if there’s anything we can do to ease any discomfort. Thanks!
Kali mur 6x aids in supporting the sinuses and the ears. And of course, swallowing while ascending and descending is a good method of ear clearing. I’d tuck a bottle of Kali mur 6x in your purse and once on the plane give your little one something to drink with the 4 pills of Kali mur dissolved in it. And do it as close to the ascent and descent as possible.
For jet lag, esp when flying east, I have always used the homeopathic remedy from New Zealand – NO JET LAG. In the last two years it is available at
The Vitamin Shoppe locally and before that in a local travel store. Just dissolve a tab under the tongue every two hours, if awake. I take the first tab as plane is departing.
Do these recommendations work for the sickness/ fatigue related to a land travel also?
Yes.
Mrs. Calabrese,
In another of your excellent blog posts, you mentioned making a spritz with grapefruit seed extract, oregano essential oil and water. Would there be any problem combining that tip with the one above for misting your face with diluted Nat mur 6x? Would the remedy be harmed or canceled when mixed with GSE and Oregano EO?
Thank you!
