About Dosage

Many homeopathic pharmacies make different sizes and densities of their pills. Some are made in milk sugar (lactose) tablets and others are made of cane sugar (sucrose). Generally lactose tablets are softer so they dissolve more easily; hence they are easier to administer to infants and animals. Sucrose pellets take a little longer to dissolve in the mouth or water, and are smaller. They come in a variety of sizes. In determining the dosage, follow the directions on the bottle. For a child, cut back by 1-2 pellets, for an infant cut back by ½. So, if the dosage for an adult is 4 pills a small child would receive 3 pills and an infant 2 pills. Keep in mind that if an infant were given 4 pills it would do no harm. The only reason to give less is for the sake of frugality. Lactose tablets that are the size of poppy seeds are most often manufactured by Hahnemann Pharmacy, which does not suggest a number to be administered on their label. Instead they suggest that the entire contents be administered as one dose. This is not necessary. Instead, being careful not to drop any pellets, pour some of the contents into the bottom of the cap and line it with the tiny pellets. It will count out approximately twenty pills. This will equal one dose for an adult. For a child or infant, use ¾ of that amount. Having said this, I might also add that if the mouth is clean (without food), the number of pills is not really important since homeopathy is energy medicine. It is not subject to material laws.

Most people have no problems taking lactose or sucrose pills, even if they are lactose intolerant. There are rare instances however, in which even the minutest amount of milk sugar can cause reactions. This reaction can often be removed by a professional homeopath through constitutional care. Until that time, remedies can be obtained directly from a homeopathic pharmacy in alcohol form.

The aqueous solution method is another option for dispensing to those who are ultra-sensitive or when treating large numbers of people. The aqueous method was used by Samuel Hahnemann and homeopathic doctors in hospitals. It entails placing one dose of a remedy in a clean glass of 2 oz of purified water and allowing it to dissolve. After stirring gently one time, one teaspoon becomes one dose. This dilutes the process one more time and greatly minimizes the amount of milk sugar. It is also a frugal method of dispensing and one that can be utilized in an epidemic setting.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Are there any brands of pellets that don’t routinely use lactose? I have not been successful finding ones that just use sucrose. So, at this point, I use the alcohol liquids (son is anaphylactic to dairy, so I don’t want to risk it by giving him the pellets with lactose). But the alcohol form takes up so much room and they aren’t convenient to tote around (imagine the first aid kit, but all alcohol based liquid remedies!). I also wonder about the amount of alcohol I’m giving my child if I need to dose multiple times a day in an acute situation. Thx!

I will soon have a blog article with this kind of information available.

hi there, curious about this as well. Is the blog post available? If so, under what title can I find it? Thank you!

If my college age son prone to colds, cough, allergies, etc. takes Calc Carb 200 /e3D and I purchase the Boroin brand, does that mean he takes the dosage on the tube that directs 5 pellets three times a day on the days he takes them. In other words, 15 pellets every three days until chronic symptoms improve? Thanks in advance for response. Julia

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If on the outside of the tube it reads “5 pellets = 1 dose” that’s how many pills comprise a dose. The frequency of a dose is dependent on what you’re using it for. If you’re using it for allergies and colds, the protocol is every 3 days. So every 3 days, a dose of 5 pills is taken.

  3. Julia says:

Thank you for your quick reply above regarding Calc Carb dosing on Boroin brand. The Borion tube actually says 5 pellets 3/x a day. So I am thinking they mean 15 pellets = daily dose. Thoughts? Using it for allergies and colds, yes. And with your recommendation of e3D. Best, Julia

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

That is indeed what the bottle means but that’s not the protocol that I teach. The protocol I teach is not 3x per day, its e.3 days. My information is specific for a condition that the bottle is not.

I can’t urge you enough to consider joining one of our study groups, Gateway to Homeopathy where you can learn these kinds of distinctions.

Thanks Joette: I am so on board. I’ve been on your site since I heard you on the Lyme summit last week-end. I feel like I’ve been stranded on the wrong island of pharmaceuticals…but now you appeared with homeopathy to save me and bring me to the right destination. Thanks for showing up! Would Love to take the gateway to homeopathy but don’t think I can lead a group yet as I’m still recovering and I think this study is designated for more than one person. I think my direction might be your books, podcasts, one of your courses or private session. I’m just so relieved I found my tribe!!!

I understand. However, should you be interested in joining an already forming group, feel free to contact my office and Eileen will connect you. Virtually, of course.

  5. Pamela says:

Hi, Joette! I have two questions about the aqueous solution. My mom is taking your protocol using Nux Vomica for chronic sleep issues (waking in the night), and we like the idea of the aqueous solution as she’ll be taking four doses for the first four days.

    1. How long can you keep the solution?

    2. Should it be stored in the refrigerator? If so, does temperature matter when taking the dose as it does when taking mag phos?

    3. Would the aqueous solution also work when taking Oscillococcinum prophylactically? My family took 1 dose each every week last year as prevention, and it worked! However, the water solution method would make it much more economical if we can store it.

Thank you for the amazing work you do and how generous you are to share all of this information. You are a game changer!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It depends on how warm your room is. A solution can last perhaps at least a couple of days but the lactose or sucrose can break down around that time. Refrigeration may slow that down.

  6. Kelsey says:

    Hi Joette,

Could you clarify what you mean by “homeopathy is an energy medicine” and it’s “not subject to material laws?” Is it similar to Reiki?
    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Homeopathy is a specific body of medicine, while Reiki is a procedure. They are very different.
