Mindful Homeopathy
Practical Protocols for Mental and Emotional Conditions

Anxiety…depression…bipolar…OCD…learning disorders…brain fog…PTSD…addictions…dementia…

Homeopathy has a history of uprooting these conditions.

These are my favorites that I guarantee you’ll use.

I created an infographic to give you hope that real, safe, efficacious alternatives to chemical drugs exist. Click here and read more.

This infographic contains some of my favorite remedies that I guarantee you’ll use.

She was one of those women who had everything: a loving husband, beautiful, healthy children, a well-run, stylish home, and intelligence to boot. She considered her life in order and often pondered it with satisfaction. She was slightly spoiled.

It wasn’t always that way though. Only fifteen years earlier Randy was single and suffering from debilitating depression, anxiety attacks and chronic fatigue. These were not the typical premenstrual blues and occasional anxiety attacks; they were the overwhelming, life-altering sort.

Her life was bulging with medical drama and constant searching for answers. “Why,” she would whimper, “is this happening to me?” The answers were vague and confusing.

From doctor to doctor she traveled only to find her inescapable illness deepening with each new medication.

Then one day, purely by accident, a friend mentioned that a relative had used homeopathy which resulted in a cure of his depression and fatigue.

It was an easy decision. She schedule a discussion with the same homeopath only half believing anything could save her from her life of her chronic mental suffering.

The homeopath told her that each medication she had been taking was concealing a symptom that was not only causing more serious ones but was suppressing her body’s ability to adjust to her condition. Once the correct remedy was determined, her sufferings would no longer be veiled but slowly melt away one by one.

The day or so after her first dose of Aurum metallicum 200 was a remarkable one. It so happened that she hoped she could eke out a day of one simple task. She simply wanted to organize a file she was compiling to build a case for social security benefits since she was no longer capable of work.

She had grown accustomed to measuring her time and tasks according to what her symptoms allowed. Most days were relegated to about an hour or two of productive time while the remainder was spent napping, peppered with anxiety attacks and weeping.

This day was different. Instead of the expected, Randy found herself organizing other files, too, and even wandering into the kitchen and making soup from scratch.

This was a once-relished task that had also been left behind due to her mounting fatigue. Yet, here she was working and providing herself with a nourishing meal! When she finished lunch, she noticed the pantry needed tidying.  Instead of postponing the task as usual, she took it on with renewed gusto. “Hey,” she thought, “I remember this feeling … it’s the way I used to feel: energetic, capable and motivated.”

After the last jar of beans was wiped and returned to the shelf, she scanned the room for another undertaking. Maybe I’ll just start a load of laundry, she considered.

And so the day went: task after task accomplished with ease, unlike any other day for what seemed a lifetime.

That night, as she lay her head on the pillow she took pleasure in reflecting on the accomplishments of the day and only hoped this had something to do with the homeopathic remedy.

“Nah, just a fluke,” she decided and fell deeply asleep.

Yet, upon awakening the next morning, despite the cold, damp weather, a factor that had always worsened her depression, she prepared herself for another productive day.

This happened day after day for nearly a fortnight when finally she experienced a panic attack. She wept a little, too — more out of grief that her new well-being might be coming to an end.

Then something uncommon happened. Just when the panic was coming to the usual breathless pitch, it abruptly stopped. And instead of the telltale exhaustion, there was a sense of calm.

And so it went. Day after day, week after week, the depression appeared only occasionally, now shorter, now less dramatic. Her desire to go out and her stamina returned. The prescription medications she once depended on had now been eliminated; so had the over-the-counter ones, and she began experiencing the life she always envisioned.

At a friend’s house — the one who had earlier shared the tip on homeopathy, she was introduced to a compelling man.  Innocently, the friend wore strong perfume, a previous trigger to anxiety, yet none of this made Randy ill.

Instead, she was particularly clever and charming that night, which caught his attention. No more fogginess and anxiety. Her intelligence sparkled.

A year later, they celebrated their wedding.

Their marriage has been blessed with two children who are both treated with homeopathy.

Depression is a thing of the past. Randy has a good life, rich with the blessings of a family and vigorous health. It only looks from the outside like a privileged life was bestowed upon her. There is an assumed excellence that comes from abundant health that she and her family have come to enjoy.

Indeed, homeopathy has spoiled her.

Aurum metallicum is a homeopathic medicine that has a reputation for addressing the deepest imaginable depression and anxiety.

This state of mind can be triggered by a business reversal or disappointed love relationship and may include anorexia nervosa, suicidal thoughts and fatigue. Yet it also touches the lives of those who have depression running in their family bloodline.

If both chronic fatigue and depression are found in the same person, this remedy will likely act in a most surprising way.

Aurum metallicum 200 is best taken every 2-3 days for a period of a few weeks and halted when the condition has much improved.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

What are the exact dosing instructions? # of pellets at what interval, etc.?

This sounds like it could be very effective for someone suffering deeply from the breakup of a long-term marriage.

Thank you very much for the advice.

Pls read my reply to Marg above.

Thank you for your informative post. As an eclectic/holistic psychotherapist, I am always looking for means of helping my clients without psychotropic medications, especially when they don’t want to take them.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Aurum metallicum is one of the all time great homeopathic medicines for depression, but pls know that it is not the only one.

  3. Marg says:

When you say that Aurum Metallic 200 is best taken every 2 to 3 days for a few weeks, is that 200c, and 1 dose every 2 to 3 days? Also, how many pellet are in one dose? Thanks so much for your great newsletter!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t give the number of pills because it depends on the manufacturer’s directions on the outside of the bottle that determines that. A dose is what ever is printed on the side of the bottle. 200c is a good potency and one dose every 2-3 days is correct.

    2. if Boiron pellets you can use 2 pellets even though it says 3-5. you can also take it and dilute in a 1/2 vile dropper bottle, 2 pellets and do half water and half vegetable glycerine or alcohol and take only 2 drops of that either in water or under your tongue. it works more effectively this way because before each dose you shake the bottle and it actually slightly alters the potency enough that you don’t get used to the remedy.

I did not think you could “get used to” a remedy… isn’t that in allopathy?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I said that? Pls.send me the passage.

Hi Joette! I never saw your reply. No, I was replying to the above poster and was just making sure I understood correctly. You actually answered this in one of our calls, as well! xo

  4. Paula says:

    Hi Joette,

Our classical homeopath usually prescribes one dose of the constitutional remedy, usually in 200C potency, every 2 to 3 months. I feel that she chooses good remedies for my kids, but I don’t always see the results (for instance, my 7-year old son is on Pulsatilla and still wetting the bed. We tried lycopodium too). I see that you use a totally different system, repeating the remedies much more often. Is this part of the Banerji way of doing things? Do you ever see aggravation on those higher doses? Thanks for any clarification you could give on the matter of choosing potency and frequency. Sorry if I went off topic. Thanks so much, Paula

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

After many years of studying, using and teaching classical homeopathy(I taught the 1st credit bearing college course on Classical Homeopathy in NY State, studied CH since 1986 and been in full time CH practice for 20 years), I have found it to be slow, expensive and not reproducible.

The Banerji Protocol is faster, data based, less likely(almost never) to produce aggravations, gentle and deep acting. ANd most importantly, able to be used by families without hundreds of thousands of dollars in education.

Not homeopathic advice, but I found interesting Dr McDougall says in one of his webinars that dairy products is cause of bedwetting.

  5. Tiffany says:

Your timing could not be better with this post. My husband falls into deep depression around this time of year and finds himself remarkably unmotivated to do just about anything. Not to say that it isn’t present at all in the warmer months, but it is much deeper and worse when winter hits. I am hoping this remedy with the aid of WAPF diet will help in short order! Lard, cod liver oil, heaps of butter…ho!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

‘Sounds like you’ve got it figured out!

  6. Cheli says:

Wow Joette, thanks a bunch for another fabulous article. I wish some of my nieces would consider homeopathy, and Aurum looks like it could be the ticket. Depression seems to hit all the women in my family. I’ve never used Aurum met, but I’ve had pretty good luck with Ignatia and Sepia.
    Blessings from Florida, Cheli

  7. Courtney says:

I’m wondering what the deciding factors would be in choosing this remedy over Ignatia? Thanks!

  8. KC says:

I Love all your recommendations but am wondering where to find the remedies. The do not have them at the health stores at this low dose.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Click on the highlighted name of the remedy in the article and it will take you to a source.

  9. Kristen says:

This is really interesting and very helpful. Would aurum m also work when the depression/fatigue is “intermittent”? As in, the depression/fatigue is the strongest (current) state…but requirements (I HAVE to go to work, or I won’t get paid and have no one else to rely on) and large amounts of caffeine to “get going” can temporarily mitigate it?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its hard to say based on what you’re reporting, because generally if someone has depression, it is somewhat consistent. Having said this, if it is an overall pattern, it might be a consideration. One more thought: If someone can step outside of an emotional state by becoming active and productive, I consider this to be a step in a good direction.

  10. Martha says:

Thank you for this informative article. I have a follow-up question regarding the choice of potency. Is the 200C potency being used in lieu of a lower potency like 6x or 6c because using a lower potency would not address the mental/emotional symptoms? Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s used because based on the experience of Drs. Banerji, it is the most expedient and efficacious method of using this remedy for this condition.

    2. lower potency does not address mental but it depends on who you are treating. if the person has a very low weak energy as can be seen in terminally ill or elderly you should start with a lower dose and increase. I would say 30 Ch would be fine if the person fits into this category. you don’t want to go to X it works differently .

      source I’m a homeopath

      1. Courtney Ingham says:

I am not in agreement with you. Since I teach practical homeopathy based on the works of Drs. Banerji, we/I find that protocols cover potency and all posology issues.

  11. Julie Zook says:

I wanted to know what contraindications there might be if a person is taking a number of anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications currently. Do you recommend the person wean from the medications prior to starting the homeopathic method? Or, do you think the person can add the homeopathic method in addition to the medications they’ve been prescribed. Or, do you think the person can add the homeopathic method while weaning from the prescribed medications. I’m confident that most psychiatrists will not agree with homeopathy, which is why I feel my questions are important as I’d want someone to address the idea of homeopathy with a psychiatrist “gently”. Thank you for your time.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would never encourage someone to stop using their meds for anti-dep and anxiety. Instead, it is usually noted that if the remedy is correctly chosen the need for the drugs will melt away. Then its time to discuss it with the prescribing doctor to see if an how the drug can be minimized or eliminated.
I am not aware of any contraindications.

  12. Tiffany says:

    Hi Joette,
I’m so excited to try this, and hope it helps me. I ordered Boiron Aurum Metallicum 200ck, and the directions on my bottle say 5 pellets, 3 times per day. This is really different from what you suggested above. Do I stick with the 3 pellets every few days, or follow what it says on my bottle. Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Twice daily is the way I have used this remedy for years and have found it to be the best so far. When determining the number of pills, its best to follow those instructions the manufacturing pharmacy suggests.

      1. Tammy says:

I’m a bit confused … your response to Marge stated 1 dose every 2-3 days? And in your response above to Tiffany you’re stating dosing twice daily? Would you please explain? Also is there a difference between “c” and “ck” potency? Thank you!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

On reviewing what I wrote in a comment at the time of the writing, the only answer I can some up with after so much time is to assume that the comment was somehow misplaced with this particular blog. The answer that you’re looking for is that more often than not, Aurum met is used once every 2-3 days, not twice daily. Its written as such at the end of the article as well.

C and CH are virtually the same.

  13. Karren says:

    Hello Joette,

Do the symptoms need to be present to take them? My depression comes and goes at different times. Right now I am doing well and dandy and feel great but sometimes it creeps up on me without me realizing it until I’m well into it…

Do I need to be “in it” while taking it or can I take them now while I’m feeling great to head it off for the future? Sometimes when I’m “in it”, I have trouble seeing it… I’d like to get rid of it for good, of course!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The symptoms need to either be present or frequent enough that they impede on daily life.

  14. Cheli says:

I find that it really helps with the depression, overwhelm, and resentment from caregiving. I have been “dosing to tolerance”. For this situation it works better than Ignatia. I’ve used Sepia on and off but that never seemed quite right.

    Thanks Joette.

  15. Mohan Lal says:

Thank You very much Ma’am, for this wonderful article. Many people are getting and will get benefit of your continuous efforts. Thanks so much. Mohan

  16. Bethany says:

Can this be used for children with anxiety? My son is seven and struggles with some mild anxiety, but lately I can’t leave him without him getting anxious and crying.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy can certainly be used for children, but this remedy would not be well suited to the condition you describe.Anxiety is different from depression.

      1. depending on the anxiety, you could try Aconite 200 ch or gelsemium 200 ch

        1. Kirsten says:

What do you mean depending on the, anxiety? I take a 10mg daily of Viibryd for my anxuety/panic. I would love to switch that out for homeopathic but have no idea which homeopathic remedy to get for it

          1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy is more specific than a one size fits all, so panic episodes are treated differently than daily depression, anxiety after childbirth or around menopause is a different medicine than for a man who is overwhelmed by responsibilities. I think you get the picture.

      2. Theresa says:

“Aurum metallicum is a homeopathic medicine that has a reputation for addressing the deepest imaginable depression and anxiety.” I’m confused. Anxiety and panic attacks are mentioned a few times in the article, and then the above quote was part of the conclusion. I’m trying to help a friend with both, and Sepia and Ignatia haven’t helped her.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I urge to re-read the article so that you understand the focus of it. If it helps, there are many ways to approach depression, anxiety, etc. and details matter.

  17. April says:

When I click on the link it takes me to Amazon and on the bottle in the picture it says 200 ck. Does that matter?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

For these purposes, C and CK are interchangeable.

  18. barb says:

hi joette my daughter is giving birth tomorrow she get baby blues would this work of her she also has some anxiety also she baby sits and will soon have another one she has 2 kids of her own so in total she will have 7kids in her house I worry about her with being over whelm and baby blues also if it does ill by her some and send it to her we live 1200 mile from her I worry because I cant be there for her

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It is unlikely that Aurum will act for your daughter’s situation, particularly given that we treat pathology, not the possibility of it.
Having said this, we cover your daughter’s situation with specific protocols in my course, “Feminopathy”.

      1. i don’t agree. I think arum has a wide range of action. Anything that causes depression causes inflammation and this remedy works on a deep level on all the organs in the body to reduce inflammation. I would try it because it likely will have an effect. I would be shocked if it didn’t

        source I’m a homeopath

        1. SunnySky says:

“Anything that causes depression causes inflammation and this remedy works on a deep level on all the organs in the body to reduce inflammation.”
After reading this comment, I must try Aurum Metallicum 200C, besides Joette’s blog. (50 years since mother took her life; 31 yrs since my MS diagnosis, elevated homocysteine, cRP, and too high iron, etc….)
          God bless, Joette and ponyexpressway.

  19. Kari says:

I’m curious about using this for my son. He is 5 yo and struggles from moderate to severe anxiety. He came from the foster system with sever neglect and we are still trying to find relief for him. Would this be a good remedy for a child. (There are many more symptoms)

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

We don’t generally use Aurum met as our 1st choice for anxiety. Instead, you might look at my blog article on Ignatia.

  20. Megan Briscoe says:

Is it safe to take while pregnant?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I used homeopathy exclusively during my pregnancies. In fact, I can’t imagine how they would have gone, had I not relied on it.

  21. Melinda Lancaster says:

I found this article on a different site. (you were credited as the author) It led me here. I am going to learn a lot…and not just about depression.
I thought that this remedy was going to save my life, but it has only agitated me. I was directed to only take two doses & wait 20 days to report. I’m still waiting. It is difficult to know if I didn’t get enough OR if it is the wrong remedy. Either way, I believe there is a right remedy.
I also feel that this article will be instrumental in helping many suffering from depression. There are literally thousands of people deemed ” treatment resistant ” to psychotropic drugs.
I want to get well and then spend the rest of my life spreading the word about homepathy.
    Thank you for sharing this!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The method of taking a homeopathic for a dose or 2, then stopping and waiting for a few weeks before assessing is a method I no longer adhere to. The idea is that within that time, there will be relief and that will indicate whether it was a good medicine choice or not. If is wasn’t, then the next medicine is chosen.

“Treatment resistant” is only a phrase that indicates that the doctor hasn’t any idea what to do. A better term would be “doctor inadequacy”.

  22. Your comment made me smile through tears. My doctor is a good person. His model isn’t working for the situation. There are thousands of people weaeing the label of “treatment resistant” sadly. I had no idea. How broken the system is. I know that there are amino acids and herbs that could be tried. I planned on it even though mixing those with allopathic medication is risky.
Then I found homeopathy because of you, Joette. This very article was posted on another site. I read it after a very discouraging appointment. I have no idea which remedies I need but it all makes so much sense to me/us. I hope God has lead us in this direction. My husband is trying to help me while pulling both of our loads. He’s one of a kind. I feel bad for him. Almost two years with no answer is a long time.
I assume the homeopath reviewing my case is using the classical approach. We’ve never met as they donate their time on a forum. They are unwilling to move on to another remedy until 20 days pass. I’m trying to be respectful of them and not take the Ignatia 200 that has been in my nightstand for months. I bought it as an add-on item on Amazon when our dog died even though I had no idea what it was. It would really be something if it were one of my remedies.
Until I visited your site I had no idea there was another method. It makes sense to me even with a foggy brain, especially after listening to your podcasts.
I am not an Aurum personality. I’m not sure how that fits in. They said on the forum that they use rubics, etc.so personality traits don’t apply. At least not in “chronic conditions” I don’t know if you address that in any of your posts. Maybe you do in your classes. I have so much to learn.
I have felt something from the Aurum. I have more anxiety and some agitation. The agitation is not at all like me. I feel like someone else is in my body. Very strange. I don’t like it.
I know that God has a plan. He’s kept us through all of this. I no longer can function in any of my capacities. It is embarrassing.
I’m learning here as I read each post. I’ve been warned off of treating myself. Someone told me yesterday that I would need two years of care if not more. Kind of felt like I was getting off one merry-go-round and getting on to another. I declined for now.
I do intend to learn everything that I can and only hope that if I am healed and ever return to ministry, that I will be able to pay it forward. I have to find the remedy(s) first.
It takes me forever to write a comment. Thanks for the smile.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t mean to be bold, but there’s no reason to not take what you already sense is correct.

  23. You made me smile again, Joette. Thank you. This morning I received an email from Dr. Banjeri. He replied to an message that I sent. I never dreamed that he’d answer. He sent a protocol. I have some doubt about Aurum Metallicum part. I forgot to tell him I’d tried it already. Perhaps I should try it again per his instructions. It’s a two prong protocol. I’m waiting on the other remedy. I may try Ignatia in the meantime. I’m a bit afraid of the agitation I have experienced on Aurum. But I can antidote after I listen to your podcast, I’ll know how.

  24. Saurabh says:

    Hi Joette,
I was put on nux v 200c 3 times a day but it is not helping. Its making
me dull, dizzy and lower my bp to 90. I feel I fit the symptoms of aur met.

Which is better to start D12 or 200c ?
    My symptoms:
Mind: severe agitation, dizzy, emotions loss, loss of joy and excitement,
    insomnia,
Physical: low bp (90-95/65) most of the time, fatigue, severe constipation, shortness of breath,
    dull black vision.

I have never been constipated and this weak all my life. This all started when I stopped allopathic
medicines ( Venlafaxine and Paxil) and other cocktail been put for 2 years.

A homeopath put me on nux-v 200 for last 7 days but its not helping. As it was lowering the more,
I tried Gelsemium 30c, it helps little bit on BP. Please suggest sth

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t take cases on this forum. I urge you to contact your homeopath.

  25. Pam says:

    Hi Joette,

I’m trying to decide whether to continue with the homeopathist I have been working with for the last five months. My depression and fatigue are better, but the results are nothing like the results seen in this article. How do I decide that it’s time to try yet another homeopathist or to give it more time since I have had this problem since 1991?

I am certainly grateful for the time and effort you put into all this and thank you in advance for any insight you might have the time to share with me.

    Pam Hayes

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you’ve seen results, I would not look further. It can often take many months before there is improvement that is something to write home about. I always tell my clients that when a condition is chronic, they ought to expect a slow and steady response.

      1. Pam Hayes says:

Thank you so much for your honesty. My doctor tells me the same thing, but what would you expect him to say? A second opinion really puts my mind at rest. On the other hand, I was really hoping to work with you and the Banerji protocols:)

        Pam Hayes

  26. Michael says:

So Joette the dose would be 5 pills 2x a day ..every other day? For 2 -3 weeks?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its all there in the article. The number of pills depends on the what is written on the side of the bottle as to what constitutes a dose.

  27. Mary says:

When looking for Aurum Met in my homeopathic box I found 6C, a 200C, and a 10M.don’t know why I ever bought a 10M. Is it safe to take 10M with depression or can it cause an aggravation, or be proven?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the remedy is correct and the potency is correct, it will act in the proper way. I’m not sure why you’re asking me if you can take 10M when you own 200.

      1. Mary Herman says:

I guess I’m asking about 10M because …just like they say bigger is better, I’m thinking deeper acting is better. So, I have taken one dose of Aurum Met 200C for 3 days, I am hoping it helps me to stop being a hermit, isolating myself is not good for me. I thought about changing to Nat. Mur to help the isolation problem, but I know I’m being impatient.

  28. I listened to your podcast on chronic conditions and decided to give Aurum Met 200 a go, I can see positive results already after 5 days because I agreed to go in for blood work tomorrow and wow I’ve put that doctor on the back burner for about a year! Plus I never go anywhere because of my depression and fatigue….. so agreeing to go is good result for me.

But I do have a question, depression is just one of my chronic conditions, can I also treat the other two at the same time? I found that Caustium 30C is helping my hand which is crippled from rheumatoid arthritis, but I also want to address vaginitis and knock that out once and for all. Can I take three different homeopathic remedies at different times of day? Or, is there any chance that Aurum Met might help all three chronic conditions so I should just wait?

One of the important things you mentioned in the article was if depression ran in the bloodline,,,my mother committed suicide several years ago, because of that I felt strongly that I should give Aurum Met a chance to work. Thanks for all the helpful information Joette.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I teach that more than one medicine at a time may be used. I can’t tell you if Aurum will take care of all the conditions which is why I suggest this method. The more you read, the more it will all make sense to you.

      1. Pam says:

What about those of us who are already seeing a homeopathic doctor for depression? My doctor is not using the classical method, which I never saw any success with anyway, but I have seen slow improvement during these seven months. Dr. Vaishnav has me take my remedy at 200 strength twice a day. If it’s okay to use a separate remedy for several complaints at a time as opposed to one remedy that covers the big picture, should I select something from your post and add it to what my doctor recommends? Would that help me improve faster, or just make things more difficult for my doctor on my follow up visits?

        Pam Hayes

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its better to stay with what your doctor recommends. It will certainly confuse the picture for him if you add in this or that.

  29. Holly says:

    Is this a banerji protocol?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The use of this medicine is commonly known in the homeopathy world. The Banerjis, however, use it every other day.

      1. Rachel says:

        Mrs. Calabrese,

I am curious… I know how firmly you hold to the Banerji’s recommendations, so when would you deviate from their EOD and do E3D instead? Is it based on severity?

Thank you kindly for your teacher’s heart.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I would deviate if the protocol wasn’t acting.

  30. Jennifer says:

If I drink coffee (two shots of espresso a day to get going in the morning), and begin this protocol will the coffee cancel out or void the protocol?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When coffee is drunk regularly, I find that it doesn’t interfere with the action of homeopathy.

  31. Bea says:

Is this protocol for depression the same that would be used for bi-polar disorder, or do you have a post that specifically addresses bipolar disorder?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve not written on the subject of bi-polar. Sometimes this medicine is used for it.

  32. Leo says:

    Hi joette
Just wanted to tell u that u r the best , i have taking aurum metallicum 200 for the 1 month and a half . And i feel much much better. Thank you very ver much

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m delighted to hear. Share the good news with others.

  33. Melinda says:

Does a person have to fit the aurum type for this remedy to work? I am still in search for a cure for a stubborn depression. I have spent 6 months with a homeopath. She is smart but I have had no improvement. I seem to have clinical depression which could also be in part hormonal. It is maddening. I’m thinking of trying this remedy as Ignatia did not work for me. I don’t know if I am not getting enough of these remedies or what.
I guess my question is can this work for anyone with severe depression or only those who fit the aurum type (prideful, money loving, etc.) I’ve come up with the type from reading online. I am not that kind of person at all but am suffering from a depression that no medication has touched. I know you can’t predict if this would help so I guess the question is can it hurt to try…could I prove the remedy. I’m thinking of pairing this with Sepia. I have many symptoms related to “the change” and it is really confusing.
I have not been depressed most of my life. On the contrary, but, depression does run in my bloodline.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Aurum is useful for depression of any stripe and its unnecessary that the person “fit” the personality to the letter.

  34. Melinda says:

I don’t fit the personality type AT ALL but the depression is severe. I don’t find any pleasure in it and am not angry. And I don’t really like classical music. Or walking outside (at the moment).
Most of the remedies that have been prescribed to me over the past six months have been either 30c or 200c. I have felt nothing from any of them save Papever. I would like to react to something.
I tried the Ignatia as specified on the site. Nothing. I used a whole bottle without results so I thought it must not be the right remedy. Maybe I gave up too soon but had no response. I don’t:t fit that personality type either. Nat Mur…nothing. And the list goes on. It behooves me especially since this all seemed to start with grief. Makes me wonder if the flu and a steroid shot was the real catalyst. I’ll never know.. Maybe it was just the perfect storm with perimenopause.
I am beginning to wonder if 200c is not strong enough for me. Maybe I’ll give this a try. The long approach is taking a toll on me/us. Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The correct remedy for this condition should be noticed within a few days to no longer than a week.
As I mentioned earlier, the “picture” or personality type of a remedy is not, I repeat, not as important as you and many think. If its depression, we use a depression medicine. If its eczema, we use an eczema medicine. Its impossible to fit the prototype of one remedy or another and trying to do so will only send folks running in circles.

  35. Melinda says:

    I hear you.
That would mean I gave Ignatia enough time. Sigh. I wonder if my pellets were bad.
It is depression. Severe debilitating depression. Maybe some PTSD. (Could be partly hormonal) None of the 10+ remedies I’ve been given have done anything. Since it is now 2 1/2 years I thought maybe the chronic nature would mean more time.
I don’t know why I’m not responding to these remedies. I’m wondering if I need a higher dose. Or maybe I’m in the small % that this doesn’t work for…and I need it to work because no medication has. Would a higher dose be dangerous?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m not sure you’re reading this article correctly. The remedy I discussed is Aurum met; not Ignatia. Without taking the full case, at 1st blush, it sounds like its only a matter of using the correct remedy.

  36. For some reason I can’t reply.

  37. Trying again…It seems like it would be but I’ve had 3 homeopaths and have yet to respond to a remedy. I realize this article is about Aurum Met. I think I should try it again for more than a dose or two. I brought up Ignatia in my other comment. I wondered if I didn’t give it enough time but since I took a full vial and didn’t respond I guess I did. You said I should have felt something after a week or so. I didn’t. You have mostly featured these two remedies and Sepia for emotional matters. I’ve been given others as well. No response.
I worked with a homeopath for about 6 months. She has taken my case 3 times. I don’t have many rare and peculiar things, don’t crave anything and nothing makes it better or worse. That makes the case more complex I’ve been told.
You said in one of the videos that if there is no respond either the remedy or the dosing is wrong. Surely all of these remedies can’t be duds. I’m discouraged. This has gone on such a long. I am considering going to a “M” dose of either Aurum Met or Nat Mur. These remedies can’t cause any more issues than the medications I have tried. I know the remedies don’t work for everyone…I really need them to work for me.
I also ordered the remedy you mentioned in the post about Isobel. At the very least I hope to get rid of the hot flashes and night sweats.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When I teach/use homeopathics, I don’t suggest that someone expect a reaction after only one or 2 doses. It can take weeks of repetition or many days. Homeopathy works but the medicine needs to be well chosen and repeated.

Nothing about your case appears to be complex. The fact that you don’t have rare and peculiar symptoms holds no bearing. Most of us are like that.

      1. Margaret says:

When someone has taken a bunch of remedies, would it be a good idea to take a dose of sulphur to cancel out everything before starting a new remedy?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the remedies you’ve used have been a problem or have simply not acted, it might be a good idea to cancel them out. But we do this generally for a chronic condition, not acute. And I don’t use Sulfur for this. Read my blog, “Stop It!”.

  38. Melinda says:

For a full year I have been treated with no response. I was told a single symptom break the case. The person I worked with is a teacher. I assume she knows her stuff. I feel like a failure that none of the remedies have helped.
I took Ignatia for 2-3 weeks. Either the pellets were bad or it isn’t right or I need a higher dose. I’ve taken water doses of most of the remedies (10 or more) for several days. No response. That makes me wonder if I need a higher dose. Or more time. I believe homeopathy works. We’ve used cell salts, Arnica, Bryonia, Rhus Tox, etc.
I’ve done a lot of reading on your site. I really am trying to save my life as dramatic as it sounds.
I don’t feel depressed for any specific reason but this all started after a tragic loss. I felt a little shaky from time to time. Was having trouble processing it. A few months later I went into a state of high alert in the middle of a medical emergency that wouldn’t normally phase me. Nothing like that has happened to me before. It went on for several months (even with medical care) then one afternoon the first dark thought came and nothing has been able to lift the darkness. I was already dealing with hormones but my mood was good.
I need a big dose of Aurum Met or some grief remedy and something to balance my hormones. And from what I am hearing you say it could be awhile. I’m okay with that as long as there is some response. I just want to respond to something. I’m worn out as is my husband. I worry about him as he is a heart patient.
My doctor has no more to offer. I’ve stumped a smart homeopath or two. I hope to find a miracle in one of these remedies…soon. I’ve lost a great deal in the past 2 1/2 years. Hope is getting hard to find. Please say a prayer for me. Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Melinda, my prayers are with you.

  39. Melinda says:

Thank you so very much for your prayers, Joette. Now you can see why my case is called “complex.”

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I stand firmly that your case does not appear to be complex. It’s that you’re suffering and it feels that way to you. Additionally, when a practitioner declares that your case is complex, it’s usually a professional admission that he/she isn’t equipped to bring it home. This has more to do with the practitioner’s ability than with the case.

  40. Melinda says:

I never dreamed this would go on for so long. The process has been long, draining, and costly. I don’t know how much longer before my body gives out. I am exhausted and totally nonfunctional.
I hear what you have said. The practitioner is an instructor at a homeopathy school out East. She’s very smart.
Why would someone not respond to ANY remedies? Could I be too stressed out? We’ve continued to have emergencies and losses. I feel afraid and am worried about my family. What is wrong with me that I’m non-responsive?
Could it be that I need higher doses for longer periods of time? I ask because it seems you are saying this shouldn’t be hard and yet it is killing us and I haven’t made any progress.
The only thing I relate to with Aurum is the depth of despair and self reproach. Also, I read it is the remedy for clinical depression.
I have asked 4 homeopaths how many remedies there are for severe depression. None give an answer. So, you probably won’t either. But you have answered every question I ask. I’ve asked a lot and I thank you for your patience.
I have tried 6 of the top 10 remedies for depression. Someone told me (a homeopath) that there is a curse on my life. I want to believe that God is bigger than that. My faith holds on by a thread. I probably sound much stronger and braver than I really am. This is terrifying.
I’m thinking 200c doses of every thing and up to two weeks for a response. I think you said a week or two should be enough time to get some kind of idea… although recovery would take more time. I would try a bigger dose but I’m afraid. I have nothing left but homeopathy at this point.

  41. Mary says:

Melinda, I’m not a homeopath, but why don’t you just try the Aurum Met 200 for a couple of months and see how it goes. Set the other remedies aside so you don’t get confused. Keep a daily journal, so you can see how you progress, changes may be subtle. Don’t worry if it’s right or wrong, if you fit the profile or not. Just remember it’s very good for depression and just take it. After 2 months go back and check your journal, see how you changed. Go back read the article to see how often to take, and then stick with it. That’s the only way you’ll know if it works for you.

  42. Melinda Lancaster says:

Mary, thank you for your concern. I’m afraid I will prove the remedy. I have nothing in common with it except the depth of my depression and the fact that I lost my sister to depression almost 3 years ago. I wish I was smarter and knew more about this.

  43. Pam says:

    Hi Joette,

I have been under my homeopathic doctor’s care for 14 months for depression. Dr. Vaishnav has had me on four or five different remedies for anywhere from one month to several months each (taken twice a day at 200c potency) during that time. I am at least 50% better:) My question is, in your experience, would I have seen quicker results with a Banerji protocol?

    Thanks again!

    Pam Hayes

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you’re experiencing improvement, I wouldn’t tinker with success. Stay with any doctor who genuinely helps you. ‘Sounds like you’ve got the right guy.

  44. Mary says:

Melinda, I understand your concern about proving a remedy. But the Banerji Protocol is based on what works for the majority of the people. Aurum Met is that remedy. They see so many patients a day, if proving was a concern they wouldn’t be repeating a high potency remedy so often.

One of the things mentioned after the article was…depression runs in the bloodline, that is what I focused on. I lost my mother due to depression, you said you lost your sister…. I consider that a very strong reason to give this remedy a try. It said Aurum Met 200 one dose every 2 to 3 days. I just took my dose, you want to put it to the test with me?

    1. Pam says:

Way to go, Joette! Do it, Melissa! We’re all rooting for you now and are expecting to see a much more hopeful person within a couple months. Don’t give up and don’t worry about “proving” the remedy, I’m taking my remedy for depression a LOT more often than what this protocol calls for and at the same potency and have never had an aggravation.

    2. Pam says:

      Oops, I mean Melinda:)

    3. Mary, how is it going for you? Thinking of you pray you are getting some relief.

  45. Mary & Pam,
I can’t respond to you both separately. It’s a glitch of some kind.
Mary, I am very sorry for your loss. I can’t say that I know your pain but I know how much we hurt. My reasons for considering this remedy are the same as yours. Nothing else about it fits. I thought that details matter. That’s where I get hung up. I fear that I might become angry and proud? I rarely leave the house and many days don’t even get dressed. Never have I been like this in my life. You are giving Aurum Met a try! I pray it will do wonders for you. I’m thinking about it. It was the first remedy I tried but two doses didn’t do anything. I’m going through “the change” as well and have many symptoms. I don’t know what is causing what. I don’t have months to find some relief. Well, I do but I REALLY need to see a ray of light. I’m weary and so is my husband. I’m thinking about Nat Mur, Sepia, Causticum, and another one too. I was given Nat Mur but didn’t respond. I don’t fully fit the blurbs on any of these remedies but have had many losses. Will you post your progress? Thank you for caring.
Pam, thank you for the encouragement. I’m grateful. So glad that you are having progress with your remedy and no aggravations. How awesome. I pray you’ll fully heal. How long did it take to have a response? I have not responded to about 12 remedies. I don’t know why. Your comment makes me wonder if I’ve been given enough of these remedies for a long enough period of time. That was what I was trying to ask in my last comment but I don’t think it came out right.
This site always gives me a little bit of hope until I leave and feel afraid with my cloudy mind. It takes me a long time to write a comment. Both of you ladies have really touched me with your words of encouragement. Putting my situation in comments that the whole world can read isn’t something that I would normally do. I sound desperate because I am. Thank you for caring.
Joette, I’m sorry if I’ve over-shared on your site or asked too many questions. I’m trying to understand the lack of results I’ve had and if I should try some of these remedies again. I guess I can’t know. I was told that you can’t go back to remedies or repeat them in the same potency. That can’t be right or the protocols wouldn’t work. It can really be confusing in an already cloudy mind.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re not taking up too much time here, so no worries.

  46. Thank you for being gracious, Joette.
Its strange that none of the remedies I’ve been given have had any affect. Not even a partial response. Can remedies be repeated if they’ve already been tried? (on the forum they say no) I thought I read here that if there is no response either the remedy or the dose is wrong. I can’t help but wonder if I need higher doses and more time.

  47. Pam says:

Melinda, we are all rooting for you! Join Mary in taking the remedy exactly like the protocol says. You definitely haven’t given the remedy a chance. I think the problem is that you are comparing your results to the results in the post. I made that same mistake but Joette agrees that a chronic depression can take a few months before you see noticeable improvement. It took 6 months before I was positive that I was improving but probably would have taken less time if I had used this protocol. My depression started in 1990, so it’s going to take me longer to get completely well than it will take someone who has been depressed for, say, five or ten years. The hardest part was holding on to hope while I was waiting for any little sign of improvement, so I feel like that has given me insight into your feelings. There is absolutely, absolutely hope for your situation! And the sooner you get started the sooner you’ll start to feel better! As soon as you start seeing little signs of improvement we want to hear back from you, ok?

  48. Melinda Lancaster says:

Pam, I’m SO glad you are getting a response. That’s a long time to suffer. Six months? You’re brave. Did you have to try a lot of remedies? I feel like a freak of nature not responding to anything. I only took them for a few days. The classical way is thorough and exhausting. I have to decide if I want more. I really don’t (even though I like the homeopath) because its not working. Yet, I’m afraid of going it alone. I’d feel different if a traditional med had worked to stabilize me. Then I could think ☺ and take my time. I heard it takes a month for every year of the illness. I honestly thought we’d be making progress by now in identifying a remedy. I’m discouraged and stressed and worried about my family. I wonder if that is messing things up for me.
I’d love the results in this post…not just for myself but for everyone. My impression is I should be experiencing something from the remedies even if they aren’t a full match. I’m scared because I haven’t. I guess I have a complex.
I’m trying to decide what to do next. What remedy/ies. Its hard when you can’t identify why you are depressed. Does that make sense? Was it grief, too much stress, hormones or all three. I don’t know. I just broke and now I’m in a dark place. Is such despair found in other remedies? I don’t know. What if I don’t respond to Aurum? That’s what is running through my mind. Ugh!

  49. Melinda Lancaster says:

No response after 9 days. Am I judging too soon? Does this mean this is the wrong remedy? (using Ignatia too) Should I be feeling something? I know you can’t give advice or recommendations here. I do NOT mean to be a pest. Normally I am not. I’m being told so many things: miasms, low vital force, medication, MS, etc. all blocking the case. Very confusing. I am not responding to much of anything. I don’t know why. I had someone one the forum recommend Nat Mur 1M (I couldn’t find 10M)but so far, I don’t feel it, either. I want to so desperately. I feel like hormones might be complicating things. I have read that Aurum is the #1 remedy for clinical depression. It doesn’t seem to be working. I listen to the podcasts, read the comments of people having success. I want to be one of them. Just want to see a small shift to know I’m on the right path. Please tell me how many remedies there are for “dark night of the soul” depression?
You said chronic cases take time. I thought you said that within a week or so there should be some change?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t urge you enough to meet with a seasoned homeopath. Not someone who theorizes about what and who you are. Just takes your case and offers the medicine.

  50. Melinda Lancaster says:

I would but there are no homeopaths where we live. I worked with one long distance for 7 months. No response. I was told the case is complicated.
Is 9 days to soon to judge this remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopaths work online from all over the world. I know what you were told. And you know my response to that.

      1. I’m trying so hard to find one. Seasoned isn’t so difficult but most are classical.

  51. Hope says:

Hi Melinda, how are you doing? Did you find any homeopath? did you try Aurum metallicum? i would say never loose hope. My husband suffers from depression from time to time for last 10 years. This time i came up to this website. i ordered Aurum metallicum and i want to give it a try. He didn’t respond to allopathic medicines or I would say he could not tolerate their side effects.

  52. keely says:

Wow; after much trial and not many results from other remedies, I am surprised to say that I took one 5 pellet dose of Aurum 30 last night before going to sleep and I feel kind of like a new person now. Still have a long way to go, but I am amazed by this remedy. It really seems like the one for me! Now the only issue is that I don’t know exactly how to proceed from here on out. Is it correct to assume that, since I had this reaction, I could continue using the 30 but in the same way that you outlined with the 200, Joette? I thank you for any guidance!

    1. keely says:

If that’s not ideal, I will definitely purchase the 200. I haven’t taken any more of the 30. I still can’t believe I feel this good. It’s like night & day!

  53. Mary says:

Joette, have you written anything on Social Isolation?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, in my course titled “Mindful Homeopathy”.

  54. Dee says:

My daughter has had severe anxiety with suicidal thoughts off and on for years. She took Ignatia amara years ago and it seemed to get rid of it. It came back about 1 month ago and she started taking Ignatia amara 200 again for the whole month but it hasn’t helped at all. Would it be worth trying Aurum metallicum?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m not a physician and can’t advise on which homeopathic to use but if you read Aurum met in a materia medica you’ll feel more confident in a remedy choice.

  55. Lilly says:

    Help!
I’ve been using Aurum as suggested above for debilitating depression that has been going on for 5 years.
After the 4th dose I noticed a shift in how I was thinking and slowly I’ve been feeling better and better which has been absolutely amazing. However, yesterday I took my 9th dose and everything’s come crashing down again as bad as ever before (no positive shifts like the story above).
Is this a sign that I’ve used it for too long (only 2 and a bit weeks) or do I plough on and assume it will get better again? And if I stop, how do I get back to where I’d got to before?! I’m not sure the correct way to deal with this kind of thing using Banerji protocols. I’m devastated.
Please, if anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful.

  56. Regina says:

    Hi Joette,
I’m a Mighty Member. I’m using the protocol for fibromyalgia and a current sinus infection. What I need to know is the Infographic shows Aurum Met for fatigue and dizziness. I have fatigue with the fibromyalgia but my dizziness is currently coming from the sinus infection. I need to know the dosage/frequency for the Aurum Met because it’s not on the Infographic. Could you tell me this. My searching doesn’t seem to bring up any answer. Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Infections that are met with dizziness and fatigue are in a different category than depression. Aurum met would not be appropriate.

  57. Regina says:

I’m not asking about the sinus infection or depression. I’m treating the sinus infection and I don’t have depression either. I have fibromyalgia and I’m using Rhus tox and symphytum. I just couldn’t find anywhere to post the question about the Infographic for fibromyalgia that shows Aurum Met for fatigue/dizziness. Just need to know the dosage and frequency because the Infographic doesn’t show it. It’s actually for the fatigue from fibromyalgia.

  58. Regina says:

I’m not talking about depression or sinus infection. I’m specifically asking about the Fibromyalgia Infographic. Couldn’t find anywhere else to post this. It says Aurum Met for fatigue/dizziness. Need to know the potency and frequency. Thanks so much Joette!

  59. Regina says:

Sorry for two postings. The first one didn’t show.

  60. Regina says:

I just need the Aurum Met dosage and frequency shown on the fibromyalgia infographic. I want to buy some for later use if needed. It has nothing to do with this post. I just couldn’t find anywhere else to post it considering this mentioned Aurum Met.

  61. Sonia says:

In another blog it was mentioned that Aurum met 200 is also very good for “Male” problems, which will be corrected if taken every other day or so for a couple of weeks. Does the man have to be depressed for this remedy to work? he is a bit overwhelmed with responsibilities and work and has lost some male “”functions””. he is 66

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Crack open your materia medica and read the remedy fully. That’s the best way to understand the ability of a given medicine. If you don’t own one, Dr. James Tyler Kent’s materia medica is online for free. Having said this, if you’re using homeopathy pretty frequently, you ought to own at least one materia medica.

  62. Amy M says:

I just purchased the aurum M, but another website recommended the 30c to begin with. The directions say to take 5 tablets, 3 times a day.

I have suffered from severe depression and suicidal ideation (including 4 attempts) for 40 years. I’ve been in various types of therapy and taken every medication under the sun.

Do you think I should’ve tried the 200c instead? If so, should I simply increase the amount recommended according to the directions?

    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I’m sorry that you’ve suffered from this. It’s a horrible kind of illness.
I can’t tell you what you personally should do. I can only offer my perspective in this article as to how I use it.

      1. Amy says:

Thank you. I’m just so confused as to which is stronger/ more effective, the 30 or 200.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I use protocols that include specific potencies for specific conditions. That’s all that one needs to know.
Having said this, the effectiveness of a particular potency depends on the condition. Sometimes 30 is perfect for a condition while a 200 potency is a better choice for another illness.

          1. Amy says:

            Thank you 😊

  63. Taylor says:

Will this work for seasonal depression? I only struggle with it during the winter months.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Depression is depression, regardless of the time of year.

      1. KC says:

I am an Introvert, have general unexpained sadness about me, prefer isolation vs. getting out. Melancholy, quiet, meek, tend to be on the negative side. Want to change to having some joy, wanting to be around people, be postive and not have it take effort to get out of the house. Aurum Met 200 sounds like it might work for me. or Ignatia?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

I don’t choose a remedy for folks. Instead, I urge you to read each medicine thoroughly in a materia medica. Dr. Jame Tyler Kent’s on line would be a good place to start.
