This Memorial Day, in honor of our veterans, active-duty service members, the families of those who serve and of those we have lost to battle; I want to highlight one of the most useful weapons in our arsenal of homeopathic remedies … Ignatia amara, the ultimate post-traumatic stress medicine.
(I’m using the “weapons” parallel not only because of today’s military theme but also because the handy red box, below, that holds our 100 remedies kit, was originally designed for storing bullets … I like to think of each little vial of pills as ammo against ill health!)
Ignatia is the #1 remedy of choice when dealing with many emotional problems that some, in duty, have undergone.
Here is a list of the sufferings that for over 200 years have historically been resolved by Ignatia:
This is why it’s such an important remedy for military families — both those who serve and those who wait at home.
Formerly referred to as “shell shock,” Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder* is characterized by stress reactions that persist long after the danger of a traumatic experience has passed.
These stress reactions can take many forms, including both physical and mental symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, hyper-vigilance or jumpiness (exaggerated startle reflex), insomnia, depression, anger, emotional numbness, racing heart, difficulty concentrating, headaches or stomachaches, etc.
It is not uncommon among service people such as soldiers, rescue workers and police officers who experience deep remorse and self-blame after a perceived failure to protect or save others from harm, or among those who experience “survivor's guilt” after a disaster.
These commanding emotions of fear, grief, worry and regret, are all prominent in the remedy picture of Ignatia, and the picture includes all the many branches of symptoms that have those three emotions at their stem.
One of the methods for Ignatia amara 200C to be used is two times per day for many days — if not weeks. As improvement ensues, its use may be eliminated and then reinstated later if the suffering reappears.
Often, it will not be needed again and again.
I witnessed the good doctors at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Center in Calcutta using this potency and frequently and now for nearly 3 years I have employed the same.
For years, I’ve also used Ignatia amara 30C, (as in the kit here) in the same fashion (twice daily) and have found it to also be as effective.
Having noted this, however, if the 30th potency doesn’t help, the 200 potency might be a better choice.
Here are some more uses for this monumental remedy:
“What if I’m already taking an anti-anxiety drug?”
No worry. Homeopathy does not interfere with drugs. But as far as I’m concerned, the idea is to stay clear of them, if possible. They often cause the next illness in the name of longstanding and worse-than-the-original-illness-side-effects.
If Ignatia can provide relief, then synthetic drugs become superfluous.
Undoubtedly, it could be injudicious to simply leap off a drug without supervision. But with care, and the aid of the prescribing doctor to help properly wean off, many have been able to minimize and even eliminate dependency.
Hence, Ignatia doesn’t mask the sadness like antidepressants, or worse eliminate the highs and lows of emotional range, it helps to bring about acceptance, strength, and resilience — an ability to start seeing the joys of life as well as the sorrows and recover the fortitude needed to go on.
Remember, homeopathy doesn’t cover up symptoms; it resolves the illness.
And so, on this important day in the U.S., I proudly acknowledge our veterans and their families and offer this gift of information.
Please pass this on to all who might benefit.
(Actually, I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t!) _____________________________________________________________________________

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.
Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Thank you for the post, very helpful.
Is this the best remedy for depression in general? A friend of mine has been 2+ years on medicated anti-depressants, and I would love to give them this to try. They seem placid, even almost happy in their melancholic state, which doesn’t exactly fit the bill. However, the partner is truly suffering, with the stress of the whole situation.
I wonder if Ignatia, would help either of them?
There are other homeopathic medicines for depression as well, Ignatia being only one. It depends on the cause and how it presents that determines the remedy choice. Without taking the case, it would be difficult to determine for sure.
Ignatia is invaluable for so many situations of stress. It is amazing. Thanks for sharing this valuable information.
wow my hubby has what my friends and I call PTSD from being abused as a child, this so describes his being. Im going to have him read this and if he agrees, try the 30c. already have him talking silica 3 times a day cause he fits that like a glove.
Hi Megan, Make sure that your reason for using this or any remedy is based on how he presents today; not on what happened long ago. If indeed the problems of his childhood are still manifesting in the behaviors and sorrows I mentioned in the article, then its a good fit.
thanks for your reply. I think it is but have been studying to find help. the silica i found when studing and I was surprised something fit so well. and yes he still shows signs today at 53 yrs old. he fits 8 of the things listed.
Hi Joette! Love this! I have noticed a real difference with Ignatia with my mother, who has PTSD from her stroke and severe anxiety. She can’t take medications (and won’t do so anyway) but I have to say that the Ignatia not only does the job but she doesn’t really need to take it anymore.
This remedy has indeed been a huge blessing to us as a military family. I only wish I would have discovered its uses for PTSD several years ago!
It’s fascinating that scientists have recently been proposing, based on animal studies, that effects of PTSD can be passed on multi-generationally. Severe stress or fear can affect the brain in ways that cause epigenetic changes that are then passed on to offspring.
I agree. This has been shown via the holocaust victims and their offspring. We call it miasmatic in homeopathy.
Joette, I have a 9-year-old adopted son that has many of the symptoms listed. The books I have read call the situation he endured before adoption as brain trauma (not physical, but mental.) I would love to try this remedy. Should I try the 30C or the 200C? Does it matter for a child?
In that it is a brain trauma, I’d have to look at the situation differently. This would not be the 1st remedy I’d consider for such. Unfortunately, without taking the case, I couldn’t offer any specific information.
After 24 yrs of marriage & going thru 3+yrs in a self help/support group my husband tells me I need to be content w/him taking care of me and as long as he’s “nice” to me but not have communication. I’m having a very hard time accepting this (even tho I obviously have to).such an incredible disappointment to say the least.
Would you recommend this oil for PTSD related to sexual abuse as a child?
The choice of the remedy is less about the cause and more about the sufferings experienced today. In other words, if the abuse frm years ago manifests in the symptoms mentioned, then it may be the correct remedy. But if the person has resolved the issues from the past, this remedy is not correct. By the way, the remedy is not an oil; it is in pill form.
One of my buddies from Vietnam has had PTSD for years. same for me off and on. I might just give it a try.
So much thanks for this information,
on 20 May 2014 A married woman consult me for her suppressed menses for five months with negative pregnancy test.
During taking the case she told me that when her father died then it was 13th day of her last menses and after that
her menses is absent.
I gave her Ignatia 10M single dose, next morning her menses started.
I used Ignatia on my dog Lucy when she fell into a deep slump after I had to put my other dog down. I could not believe the difference in her behavior within just two days! Seeing is believing, Thanks Joette!
And the critics of homeopathy call it placebo! Silly middle-aged men with nothing better to do.
I have a question that I’m not sure if you can answer here. I’ve been seeing a classical homeopath since last December. I went because of some extreme anxiety I had been experiencing for several months (along with bouts of depression), but also I have had many other chronic health issues since birth (that possibly led up to the very sudden and out of the blue anxiety). Anyway, instead of having me take daily doses of my chosen remedy, she has had me take one dose of a strong potency (most recently 200c) and then two to three weeks later (whenever I feel myself starting to go downhill again) she’ll have me take another single dose. I’ve made lots of progress finally in the past couple of months as far as the anxiety is concerned, but still feel really crummy physically, and just haven’t seen as much progress as I would’ve hoped by now. Why do some homeopaths prescribe daily doses and others just one dose every several weeks? I feel like if rather be taking a daily dose and feel like I might make more progress that way, but don’t know how to address that with my homeopath, since obviously she knows a lot more than I do about it. Any thoughts?
It might be difficult to convince your homeopath that you ought to be taking the remedies every day, since we homeopaths are a stubborn lot. Most us were trained the way she practices, since that is what Dr. James Kent of Chicago practiced until early in the last centrury. He has been a considerable infuence on classical homeopathy.
The reason I repeat more frequently is becuase I was awarded a yearly fellowship with the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation in Calcutta where I adopted their methods and found them to be indesputable and most importatnly reproducable. Its that simple. Its in our training and experience.
I find that the method I use (which is not only frequent repetition, but some combination remedies, etc.) is faster acting.
Having said this, if you are seeing results with your homeopathy, you ought to stay with her. Sometimes slow and steady is good pace.
Thanks, Joette. I appreciate the response. I just had another follow-up with her and didn’t mention what I felt about repeating the dose more frequently, but after we talked she actually came to the conclusion that I should be repeating the doses more frequently (I’m taking just two drops each time of a stock bottle she had me make, so I’m taking a very small dose each time)! So I guess my intuition was right! Hopefully I’ll see some more improvement now. That’s interesting about the different methods. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
My husband took this remedy after working as a firefighter at the scene of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attack. He was having nightmares and emotional shock and a lot of trauma issues from what he saw at the scene. This rememdy helped him get thru it. Thanks to Joette for recommending it at a time when he really needed relief.
I often think of your husband the sacrifice he was willing to make and the pleasure that came from helping him.
if a person has all the above but also has the reaction of anger and resentment/hatred towards the past situations, while thinking of them. Would this still be ignatia or would it now be natrum mur?
Its less likely that its Ignatia if the main emotion is anger. But I’d have to take the case in order to know which remedy would be best chosen. Nat mur could be correct, but Stramonium or Nux vomica and many others also cover these symptoms.
thanks-good info though overall
As a chiropractor I have been adding this to many of my clients with GREAT results. I also gave it to my 23 year old nephew with a history of heroin addiction….he’s been off drugs for a year, but very depressed, not motivated and not functional. He has been incredibly irritable, angry and cranky with everyone in his family. Within 2 days of ignatia everyone in the family has seen tremendous changes with a much more positive outlook and ability to interact with people…. Thanks. Now just need to work on his sleep cycle as it is backward….sleeps all day and stays up all night.
Dear Joette,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful information.
A few questions I’d hoped to ask:
You recommend (per the Banerji protocol) taking Ignatia amara 200C twice a day. How many pellets should one take at each dosing?
The label on Boiron’s Ignatia amara 30C recommends 5 pellets three times per day. But if I followed these instructions, my little vial would be empty in less than a week! I’m afraid a long-term need for the remedy would quickly become too expensive at this dosing!
Would Ignatia amara be appropriate for chronic, free-form anxiety, marked by extreme overthinking, rumination, and OCD? Would it be appropriate for the physiological stress symptoms of “adrenal fatigue”? These states of being have robbed my peace of mind and ability to think straight and concentrate for many years.
Given the long history and chronic nature of my sadness/anxiety/fear, would long-term/indefinite use of Ignatia amara be recommended? How should I determine the length of the treatment course?
And, one more! How quickly do you typically see results with this remedy?
Thank you again for your kind help! I am fond of St. Ignatius–his rules of spiritual discernment have been a guidepost for me–so it’s lovely to try a remedy bearing his name.
Take care,
Elizabeth
Generally, if the remedy is well chosen, results have been shown to set in within a span of a few weeks or months. However, the point of homeopathy, unlike drug therapy nor supplement therapy, is to take the remedy until the issue is completed. That is, it is not intended that the medicine be taken for a lifetime. That would infer that the condition could not be resolved without the substance. Homeopathy has a reputation for uprooting illness, not holding it at bay. Having said this, many find that taking less than the # of pills mentioned on the bottle also works well.
I might also add that when I offer the Banerji Protocols with a specific potency, that is the potency that they have found to be most efficacious.
Unfortunately, this forum is not the place to determine what remedy is best suited for an individual.
Yes, I agree with your thoughts regarding St. Ignatius.
Thank you, Joette, for taking the time to respond. Perhaps I will look into scheduling a consultation with you to better understand the nuances of your advice and to receive some person-specific recommendations 🙂
Take care–
Elizabeth
hi.
its over 2 yrs since the last comment here. but… here i am.
a friend just gave me a bottle of ignatia amara 6c. it has no indication of dosage. haven’t found any info online so far.
gonna try taking 3 pellets twice a day. anyone have any info or experience? thank u.
best wishes,
j c
Always read the outside of the bottle that will indicate the number of pills that comprise one dose. Having said this, why would you use 6c?
My sister started this protocol a few weeks ago. This past week she started to feel as if the sun was coming out again and had 3 better days in a row. Today she felt sad again. How long after feeling better should one stop taking the remedy? A day? A week?
Thank you
When I take personal cases, I direct folks to stay with Ignatia 200, 2D for about 6+ weeks. If its acting, we don’t stop using it unless we can call it mo longer a concern.
‘So happy to hear.
Have you written any posts in regards to anorexia or eating disorders? Wondering what types of medicines might be used in a case like that. When the symptoms are refusal to eat for fear of becoming fat, excessive weight loss, teenage female, etc. Thanks!
I have an on-line course for such conditions that offer specifics. Its titled Good Gut Bad Gut. Should you be interested, find this on the front page of my site.
I have not written on the subject but have worked with many with this problem.
i m suffering from severe anxiety, fear some times tention and gastric with a lot of Burp problems since last 5+ years, I M 40 Years Male , can u suggest any remedy in homeopathy Please..
Instead of my taking your case, why not use what I provide here for you? Its right here for the picking.
If this is a well chosen correct remedy, how many days until one begins to feel benefits? Within a day, week? I do think Ignatia 200 calms my panic & anxiety, but of course now I fear proving the remedy and possibly feeling worse with such frequent dosing! If its not the right remedy how will we know?? Many thanks Joette!
How many pellets of 200c for a 48 year old man with PTSF and a history of violent childhood sexual abuse?
The number of pills that comprise a dose is printed on the outside of the bottle, regardless of life circumstances.
Sorry, I meant “PTSD”. So, I should just give him the dose listed on the bottle? I am in the process of scheduling a consult with you but I wanted to try this while I get in your schedule.
I am suffering from anxiety, panic attacks. I have irritable bowel syndrome ( diarrhea ) and painful menstrual cramps. One friend told me that ignatia 200c will help me. I would like to know how to take it, the dose is too much? Do I have to stop drinking coffee or eating some foods? Are there side effects?
Thank you
There are no side effects per se. That is, if the medicine is correct it will do good. If does not do good, its use should be halted.
The directions on how many pills is equal to a dose is printed on the side of the bottle. The way it is taken by most is according to the article.
Coffee drinking is not a problem when using the repetitive method I discuss. Nor are certain foods a problem. I urge you to spend time learning more by spending time on this site, listening to podcasts and reading my articles.
I am suffering from anxiety, panic attacks. I have irritable bowel syndrom ( diarrhea ) and painful menstrual cramps , the pain begins days before with black blood spots. And because all of them i feel depressed. A friend suggests to take ignatia 200c . How to take it? Are there side effects? I read that at first place aggravates the emotional symptoms and cause of that i afraid to take it. Have i to stop drinking coffee, tea or eating some foods?
Thank you
I am sorry for writing two times my post but i couldn’ t see it , so i wrote it again.
Thank you for the answer
Hi, I am suffering from throat alergies/infections for the past 5 years now. I think doctors have tried every single antibiotic and anti allergy on me but nothing works for me. Some call it acute farngitis some call it tonsalitis and what not I don’t even remember the names now. All of these treatments and the pain that I have gone through has made me a patient of depression anxiety and I just jeep on thinking about getting into a Big disease because of all this I can not concentrate on anything else except thinking about my pains aches and throat. Some one recommended me to have this medicine. So I want to know should I take this medication for my stress and depression ? And secondly can you please suggest any medicine for my throat As well.
Thanks
I don’t take cases and give personal advice on this forum. BUt if the remedy I described seems to fit, it might be something to consider. You may also use this blog to find the most common conditions and which homeopathics to use for such. I believe if you dig around, you’ll find some solutions.
I found this post when looking up feelings of lack of trust, missing my parents now that they are both passed away, even though I am almost a senior myself. the main problem is due to emotional abuse from my ex, and so many years later, I simply do not trust anyone.
I have taken Ignatia 200C shortly after my mother died 3 years ago, but recently I still find those feelings resurfacing again, plus memories of the past abuse coming up.
I will try taking Ignatia 200C again to deal with my deep feelings of grief and lack of trust. Can one repeat the same dose or do I need to go to a higher dose?
thank you so much for the clarity of this article.
If you read the article again, I believe you’ll find your answer on repetition and over what period of time its generally taken.
Can you say a little more about Ignatia vs. Natrum Mur? I have read repeatedly that Natrum Mur is the chronic of Ignatia, so if PTSD/shock/trauma happened years ago, should one take Ignatia or is Natrum Mur the better choice?
Yes, we’ve all read that NM is the chronic of Ignatia, but in my experience, Ignatia works in such a large number of cases, that it has become my 1st choice regardless of the age of the trauma.
I took Ignatia 2ooC twice daily for about 10 days and really feel the difference in how I feel. I do not feel so empty inside anymore. I am now switching to Sympytum for arthritis and joint pain. Thanks so much for all the help, Dr. Calabrese.
After a thorough study of remedies to treat emotional and physical imbalances, I made it to IGNATIA AMARA. Bought the 200 potency to treat self but yet to start the dosage. Your article is very informative as to the usage and efficacy of this wonderful drug particularly by soldiers who most of their time stay away from their families with homesickness, sorrow, distress, emotions etc., I have been using homeo remedies for the past 2 years to treat several symptoms chronic and acute nature and found them to be more effective, economical minus side effects in particular. Somehow, I avoid conventional medicine in order to keep my physique away from the toxins that suppress the symptoms deeper into the body.
Joe, can you please suggest whether this remedyhelps in treating spndylosis coupled with hyperthyroidism, glandular and muscular pains while addressing the mental agony ? Would be much thankful for your response. Regards.
Raju Lalitheswara
Hyderabad, India.
It doesn’t cover these conditions but if you use your browser and plug in my name plus the specific condition (or at leas a synonym for it) you’ll likely find an article or blog in which I cover it/them.
Any possibility of teaching a course on Mental Disorders and protocols? ie Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, etc.
Its in the works for sometime in the future.
Joe, may I have your mail Id or Blog name ?

I used to LOVE sleep, I was one of those people who could plop down and fall asleep. But 3 months ago I had a bad reaction to a medicinal marijuana medication
and since then I’ve been experiencing intense anxiety attacks and major sleeping problems. Any time I think about going to bed I get anxious and a bit apprehensive over whether or not I’ll have restful sleep or if I can sleep more than 4 hours. Anxiety is terrible especially now that it interferes with my day to day life and mood. I have tried countless homeopathic medication during the last two months and the only thing that seems working is ignacia Amara. My homeopath told me to use it for 5 days and stop it cold turkey. My issues came back again. I am now confused as to why she asked me to take it only for 5 days. Can’t I just continue using ignatia Amara 200 ck till my anxiety and insomnia reduces.
Perhaps she should join you so that her angst will be quenched as well.
We use homeopathic medicine until we no longer need it, regardless of how long it takes.
PS. Marijuana, whether considered medical or not, is overrated.
Hi Joette,
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge you have learned over the years! Is Ignacio safe during pregnancy? And if so, which would you recommend? 200c or 30C?
I’m currently on anxiety medication and I would love to find a more natural cure, and something I don’t depend on.
I am never willing to say that this or that medicine is perfectly safe during pregnancy because we simply never know all aspects of a case.
Does Ignatia help Bipolar-2 patients also? Thanks .
It’s not the immediate choice I’d consider specifically for bi-polar but if the symptoms fit, it may help to a certain degree. Should you be interested, I cover Bi-polar in my course Mindful Homeopathy.
On 27october 2019, very early in morning , i suddenly got up at 4am anf felt severe jaw pain with burning. Doc declare it heart attack as my heart muscles were dying rapidly and the doc performed angiplast immediate. Again same pain i felt on 5th, 6th nov in night, though statin rosavastatin 40mg i m taking regularly since this angioplast. I have severe anxiety. Today i took ignetia 200, R3 Drops. Kindly Do suggest proper remedy
I’m sorry but I don’t prescribe on this forum. However, if you’ve found value with Ignatia, it would make sense to continue.
Mam my child looks like igantia bcoz he is having cough irritates cough like habit cough and it helper for once and again he used to crystal if we console him so natrum mur was given but it also helps for once again the symptoms vanishes again if he gets cough why it is not helping. He looks like ignatia and natrum mur but not helping more than once.
I assume you’re giving the medicines consistently, perhaps twice daily for several days, yes?
My 4 year old granddaughter has been diagnosed OCD and I am not sure if she isn’t a little autistic, I don’t know. She is always sweet but loses patience easily. Will this be a good remedy for her? I have some of your programs and can look there but I would appreciate your input here. Thanks
I can’t advise you specifically on what would work for her on this forum. What I love about homeopathy is that when a remedy is chosen it doesn’t carry side effects even if it’s incorrect. That is, with the understanding that it needs to be aborted once it acts nicely, taken up as needed but stopped its use if there’s no improvement after several days.
Having said this, should this fail, you might want to consider my on-line course Mindful Homeopathy.
Mrs. Calabrese,
Can Ignatia be used more frequently in an acute moment of hysteria, say every 15 minutes if it was very severe, or would you always stick with 2XD?
Thank you kindly.
I would not use Ignatia e. 15 min. Instead, a better choice would be Aconitum or Coffea.
I’m very grateful for your answer & for your teaching, thank you Mrs. Calabrese.
Would this be beneficial for family members (I.e. wife and kids) whose husband/father is dying of ALS? The kids are young and are really struggling with it, as it’s coming toward the end. 200 potency for the kids even?
When I teach protocols, it includes potency and frequency regardless of age.
Hi, My relative girl is suffering from depression from 2 years, she have some domestic issues. She was in full mood swing 1 year ago, she takes antidepressant for 1 year and got better but as side effects she got stomach ulcer. Now issue is when she takes antidepressant her stomach and vomiting got better but when she stops for 2,3 days she find difficult to sleep and feel vomiting and liquid coming back from stomach. Doctor prescribe her 2 antidepressant and one risek. daily. Please tell what to give her, ignatia will work or other remedy ?
This site is not for offering personal advice but for educational purposes. Read the article again and read more on the medicine Ignatia in an online free materia medica to see how much of the medicine fits the circumstances and symptoms the person is suffering.
Mrs. Calabrese,
A lovely young couple had their first baby several days ago, and on top of the fatigue that goes along with that, they’ve had 2 frightening incidents on two consecutive nights. One involved an intruder and next when their house nearly caught fire.
The new mother was afraid to go to sleep at night because nights have been so scary recently. Ignatia seems to fit so very well but then Gelsemium also comes to mind because she has anxiety from anticipating trouble reoccuring in the night.
Is there ever justification for using them concurrently?
Thank you very much.
Its always better to be tidy with the choice of medicines. That means one at a time is usually a better plan. If you’re in any of my study groups or classes you’ll learn case management. It sounds like its time for you to delve in and make the commitment.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and for encouraging my further education. I appreciate you, God bless!
Rachel, I guarantee you’ll not regret it.
Can homeopathy cure anxiety and depression permanently?
I am not willing to say that homeopathy will cure anything permanently. I can’t help but wonder if you asked this question of the doctor who prescribed the psychotropic drugs you’re presently taking.
Can homeopathy cure anxiety and depression permanently? I have severe anxiety and donot want to be on allopathic medicines.
Actually I just wanted to know that people can get recovered from anxiety with homeopathic medicine or not. I am not under treatment; but deciding to go for a alloparhic doctor or homeoptahic doctor. Please guide what is better opton. I know every patient is different but generally what is duration of treatment for anxiety patient on your experience basis.
Everyone is different. Some respond within a day or so while others may take weeks to see a shift.
Can Ignatia and Nux vomica be used together?
It’s possible to use them simultaneously in the same schedule.
I am taking medicine for generalised anxiety and panic attack for 2 year. Before started my anxiety and panic attack period, i felt grief for a long time for a reason – one of my hope was not fulfilled. After a family contradiction, shouting and mental sorrow ness, panic attack begins. That’s why i am taking Anti depressant Duloxetine. I feel muscle cramping, tightness in neck, easily feared, heart racing as panic attack.
What homeopathic medicine should i take? Please suggest.
Thank you
I can not tell you what to take but read the article. If the medicine I describe sounds like it might be something you want to try, go one step further and read all about it in a materia medica to clarify (Mine or other sources online).
Hi there, I was wondering whether you recommend “dry” doses or “wet” doses in terms of taking Ignatia twice a day
Both will act.
Sorry, Joette — just wanted to clarify — when I mean “wet doses”, I mean that I would take a pellet and put it in a bottle of water, shake it and take it every day. Is doing that the same thing as taking a pellet directly?
Some homeopaths like that method. In my experience, it can sometimes not be as effective. So if the condition is a serious one, I wouldn’t use that method. If it’s not, then you may play around with the administration process.

Hi Joette, I feel that I have some kind of anxiety disorder with difficult breathing, and had used Ignatia in 6C, 1M, 10M, 50M and even above. In all these potencies, they each held for several weeks only. I didn’t heal permanently and each potency eventually stopped working. Do you think that using the remedy at 200C (which I didn’t really try) is worth trying giving that other potencies didn’t make a lasting difference?
It’s interesting that the only potency that you didn’t use is precisely the one that is found to be the most efficacious for the largest number of people suffering from anxiety. Having said this I can’t predict how any one person will react.
Yes, I realize that! I did try the 200C potency a few times, but because it didn’t help me enough on an acute basis, I moved up in potency. I realize after reading your blog, that you have to give remedies (and potencies) time — lesson learned. I’m currently trying the 200C.
If you find that a specific protocol that I teach doesn’t act, know that there are many, many others that may be used for that condition.
Mrs. Calabrese,
Is it true that Ignatia and Sepia should not be taken in the same schedule? Would it be a mistake to treat, for example, PTSD and hormonal issues at the same time?
Thank you!
It’s not uncommon to treat more than one condition at a time.
Hi Joette — I love all of the information that you provide for us! I wanted to know — I seem to have some kind of chronic condition where I do alot of shallow breathing (I don’t know if it’s quite depression) and then there is anxiety, body pain and a very strong desire to breathe, which makes the symptoms better. Is this something Ignatia could cover?
The best way to know if a homeopathic medicine befits a set of circumstances is to read up on it in your materia medica.
Hi Joette,
Thanks so much for providing all of this info. Have you used Ignatia for all kinds of OCD? I noticed in the Banerji Protocols that nothing is distinguished so I’m assuming yes and I wonder if it is because it is trauma and grief that underpins most of these behaviors. I’m specifically wondering about religious/moral OCD.
Hi again, I’ve been trying the Banerji OCD protocol with my son. It’s been about a month. It’s hard to tell if there’s been any improvement. Maybe small things but the large issue remains. Do I continue until 8 weeks? Also, can I try a classical approach with a single remedy while doing the protocol? Any thoughts on discerning Stramonium versus Mancinella for constant praying/warding off evil and demonic influences? No light subject there … Thanks for any insight you can provide.
I assume you’re a student of my online course, Mindful Homeopathy. If not, I urge you to do so and not try to do this with only a simple protocol.
Case management, which is what you’re asking about will elude you if you don’t have the undergirding of how to approach this. If you are already a student of that course, I urge you to not jump into a protocol and just start it up. You need to understand what to expect, how soon, and how to pivot from there.
I appreciate your response. Why do they put the Banerji protocols out there for general conditions if they still needs to be nuanced? I have studied homeopathy for a long time and I am interested in your course. I don’t have the finances right now. My son’s been struggling off and on for a number of years so I’ve been trying to nail down the best approach. I tried classical first and thought I would try the Banerji approach and I guess I still need to learn more. Thanks again.
Many of the protocols are super simple, while others need more attention.
Hi Joette, I’m currently taking your feminopahty course.
I have a question, would Ignatia work for children that have gone through parent’s divorce, some form of domestic violence or even physical violence and develop trauma , anxiety, fear of darkness when there was not fear before ??
Becsuse you’ve mentioned PTSD I wonder if what I have mentioned above would apply in those scenarios.
Thank you
Ignatia has the ability to address what you describe and for any age. I urge you to read your materia medica and look at the medicine from a couple of different viewpoints before deciding.
Hi Joette, thank you so much for your reply, i have been reading the materia medica as i go along with he course, but, for example going back to Ignatia and emotions, how would you chose a remedy when a person presents symptoms that are very similar to others, for example i have yoj the scenario of a child who has gone through some for of trauma ( parents divorce, some domestic violence) as a result they develop some anxiety and night fears when there were none. But the same child presents symptoms that can point to ADHD or ODD …. would you give the three different remedies although they have some similarities in what we are addressing??
I’m sorry I hope I made myself clear. Because in many cases of other ailments this too may apply but I am using the former scenario. Thank you.
We approach a case by focusing mainly on what is presenting. We ask, “What is the main suffering?” If anxiety is the most sobering aspect of the case, we use the remedies specific to that condition. If both anxiety and ADD have no hierarchal difference, two different medicines may be needed.
If you’re not already taken and studied my online course, Mindful Homeopathy, I urge you to do so. Structuring a schedule of medicines and case management is key.
Thank you Joette. I appreciate so much your replies as it helps me depen in my understanding . I am planning to register to Mindful homeopathy once I’ve completed the Feminopathy course. I am going really slowly, watching over and over again .I admire you so much for your knowledge, your approach and the way to benefit the public by sharing so much information with us.. so I want to enjoy every bit of your courses .. 🙂
God bless you and guide you all your way!!
Thanks for your kind words, Eveling. Keep up your studies. I guarantee that it will bear fruit for you, your family and your legacy.
Has Ignatia ever been known to keep someone awake ? Like very light sleep. Not sure if it’s a coincidence. Thank you!
Any homeopathic medicine can cause what it’s intended to uproot if it’s taken for too long, too frequently, or taken but is not really needed.
I have a 7 year old that suffers from anxiety as well as acid reflux. He has been tested for allergies (all negative at this age) and food sensitivities. We were told to do an elimination diet but have been hesitant as he already is very thin. He has been on a gf, df diet since he was 2. Upon being tested internally, he shows no evidence of food sensitivity. He is currently on reflux meds. What would you suggest for his situation?
I suggest that you take my online course titled Good Gut Bad Gut. This is a complete expose of the how-to.
Here’s where to start.

Hi Jolette. Could you offer a little clarification about a couple of comments you made above? You said, “Everyone is different. Some respond within a day or so while others may take weeks to see a shift.” At another point, you said, “What I love about homeopathy is that when a remedy is chosen it doesn’t carry side effects even if it’s incorrect. That is, with the understanding that it needs to be aborted once it acts nicely, taken up as needed but stopped its use if there’s no improvement after several days.” My question is if you’re not noticing a response after several days, how do you know if you should stop taking it or if you’re that person that “takes weeks to see a shift”?
It depends on whether you’re discussing an acute condition or a chronic condition.
Hi Joette,
I exhibited almost all of these symptoms for a while and my naturopath prescribed ignatia, which really helped with my asthma and mold. However, after taking a higher dose (200c), I have become very angry. Is this normal/common?
Homeopathic medicines should relieve suffering not cause it.
I have been through a number of traumatic events in the past few years, that have blindsided me and turned my world upside down. I feel “stuck” in my feelings, and I carry these around with me daily like a traumatic cape. How to know whether or not to start with 200C or 30C of Ignatia? I have started with 30c and am wondering how long it should take to notice results before trying 200.
If a medicine is well chosen for emotional conditions we usually see a shift within a few weeks.
I teach the use of 200, not scaling up the potencies.
Thank you so much for this information, Joette! I just started this remedy today and I’m excited to experience the results. I’ve also come across your information on arthritis and have ordered Bovista 200c and Rhus Toxicodendron 30c. Can you tell me if it’s okay to take all 3 remedies at the same time?
