College Homeopathy 101 (and Lessons in Debauchery)

Your child now at college want to help

In the past, I’ve written about parents suffering from “empty nest” sorrow, and student difficulties such as homesickness or burn-out from excessive study combined with excessive “partying,” that exhaustion that sets in after burning the candle at both ends.

Today I’d like to talk about another protocol that will be very useful for students (and their worried mothers) to know …

Calcarea carbonica 30C is the most widely used remedy for addressing any weakness of general immunity.

For those who are prone to recurring colds, allergies, infections or are otherwise plagued by frequent minor illnesses, Calc carb has a reputation for boosting well-being and strengthening the body’s natural defenses.

What I have seen play out so many times, is that a mother calls me weeks into the first semester of school, probably around midterms season, asking for advice about her college student.

Perhaps the student is away at school, cramming for exams, and every time he calls home he’s got a sinus infection or a sore throat.

Or maybe he is at home on break, lethargically collapsed on the sofa, too sluggish and debilitated to enjoy his quickly diminishing family time.

Usually, the empty-nest mother is distraught … she’s been counting the days until break, and now that her scholar is home he’s not even enjoying family time.

This is why I recommend sending students to college with their own homeopathy kit, or including one in a “care package” and making sure they know how to use it.  Judicious use of Calc carb 30C can keep scenarios such as these at bay.

For those who know they are prone to frequent colds (or mothers who recognize this weakness in their children) Calc carb 200C, taken every other day, is a slow-acting remedy, but nevertheless, one that is known to strengthen general immunity and vitality and will usually result in a change for the good.

Those who were getting three or four or five colds a year generally find that they only contract one, or none at all.

I hesitate to tell parents about the next remedy because being a mother myself, I didn’t want my kids to take a pill for a hangover or for overdoing it in college. (This was one of my chief complaints about college in the 1st place. I still am not a fan of the “college experience”.)

When my sons entered college I told them I would not give them a remedy to help them clear a hangover. If they made such an unwise choice, they had to learn to live with it.Beer good or bad

Unfortunately, I taught them a good amount of homeopathy when I homeschooled them years prior and they learned that anytime one over-does the use of drugs, alcohol, bad foods or indulges in too much late-night partying, there’s a remedy that works wonders. They knew from an early age that Nux vomica 30C
or 200C was the remedy of choice.

I had succeeded in my educational mission too well.

By the time my sons went to college not only did they know this remedy, but they knew perfectly well how to take it — potency and frequency — without consulting me at all.

The only evidence I would have that they had indulged in a few too many beers the night before would be the freshly purchased bottle of Nux vomica resting on the passenger seat of their car … they knew better than to come to me for it!

So if you can justify the need to offer this remedy without catering to college debauchery, have this remedy on hand for the student who’s been pulling all-nighters, for gastrointestinal issues that arise from too much dorm room pizza, sodas, candy, chips, coffee or other dietary indiscretions that invariably accompany late-night cram sessions.

In regard to imprudent use of alcohol (or other forms of intemperance), many have even reported that taking Nux vomica has reduced their desire to overindulge and helped them achieve moderation.

We walk a fine line between motherly nurturing and character-building tough love — on the one hand, we want to help our children by giving them a quick fix, but on the other, we also see the importance of training them up.

I leave the choice up to you, the remedy does not make distinctions,  it works whether the kid deserves it or not!

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mothers, do you worry about your child's diet now that he or she is away at college? All the work you’ve put into nurturing a healthy gut, only to be uprooted by institutional food like pizza, energy drinks and worst of all, beer. You know, the revered so-called “college experience.”

And this all convenes just when your child needs all his or her faculties in top shape to be able to make prudent decisions. (Moms, think staying away from the herd mentality of college campus social life, staying on task in their studies, even selecting the right mate for life.)

This is NOT the time to let down your guard. You've worked hard to get them to this point.

So, here’s my suggestion. Learn the protocols, my inside practitioner methods, to beat back the effects of bad diet and bad lifestyle decisions foisted on your children.

You owe it to yourself to take a look at this course. By the way, you can pace yourself in any fashion you like … because it is online and NOT live.

I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Dear Udai Nath Zutshi, I will have Jill contact you to help you with information that I hope will be useful to you and your community. Meanwhile, I give a great deal of free information right here on this blog. I urge you to read back through nearly 8 years of homeopathy tips and particularly those that I have written in the last 2 years since they encompass the Banerji Protocols.

For the record, I am not a medical doctor but a teacher and consultant.

      We look forward to helping.

I am completely new to homeopathy, although I have been reading your blog for about a year. Just these past two months have felt confident enough to try it. I do have one question though, as far as dosage goes. For calc carb 30c, when you say every other day do you mean take the amount prescribed on the bottle every other day, or one dosage every other day? I also have this same question with cell salts.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Hmmm. I’m not familiar with directions that might be written on the bottle of single remedies such as Calc carb 30. Usually what’s written is the number of pills that makes up a dose, not how often to take the remedy. My answer to your question is that when I offer how to use a remedy, its about frequency. SO when I say take a dose every other day, it means that whatever the number of pills is directed on the bottle as a dose ought to be taken every other day.

  6. Linda says:

    Hi Joette,
Thank you for making homeopathy so clear and eye-opening. I am wondering, since the Calc Carb 200c protocol would be slow acting and working preventitively, how does one know how long to prescribe? Would one month be about right, or would it diminish with time, like, after a month, move to once a week, then once every other week, then once a month- for a year?
    Thank you! Linda

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

‘Thoughtful question, Linda. I’ll use my son as an example. He used to get hefty colds 2-3 times yearly where he swears he’s dying. Ever since he began taking Calc carb over the last year, he’s gotten only one cold and it lasted only 2 days, while everyone around him had it for at least a week. So he has taken it for about a year but he doesn’t remember all that often. My guess is that he’s had it only once every week or so as he’s slowly weaned off and yet it still acted.
The upshot is that once improvement sets in over a period of many months, it can be reduced and eliminated and taken up again if needed.

      1. Kimberley Ladd says:

Hello Joette! Do you remember if he took
        200 EOD or 30 daily?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          It was 200, eod.

  7. Fran says:

    Hi, Joette,
I’m trying to copy as many of your newsletter as possible. Would it be possible to add a “print” button so it eliminates everything but the article? Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Good idea. I’ll have my tech guy look into it.

‘Happy to hear you’re printing them. Please pass them on to as many people in your life as possible to help keep homeopathy alive and families well.

      Enjoy!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The print button is now set up for anyone to print the blogs easily!

    2. Wanda says:

Click on the Share button at the top>go down to “more”>scroll down to a ways to “printer friendly” and it works great.

      1. Marla says:

        Thanks Wanda!

Good news! We just made it possible for you to print the blogs easily. Look for the print icon under the blog title. You can also email the blog from there.

  8. Linda says:

I sent only one of my sons to college with a small homeopathy kit- but really, I wanted to send a kit to my other son and all of my neices and nephews (who were raised on homeopathy). Alas, it was too cost prohibitive. But your post on college kits inspired me! I went onto Amazon and ordered a few sets of 1/2 dram empty bottles (12 for $5.75), and I am going to divvy up some of my core remedies into the tiny vials, thus saving myself loads of cash, and producing excellent gifts, especially after I write up the miniature Materia Medica to go with them! Thanks for the idea! (ps: this in no way takes away from the extensive homeopathic kit you offer on your site- so many brilliant remedies included! I will be purchasing one soon!) Thanks again, Linda

  9. Marla says:

I like Fran’s suggestion. Good idea.

  10. Barbara says:

I love this post, Joette. I’m delving deeper in learning about Calc carb, and your descriptions (of every remedy) are quite helpful. But the best part of this post is about Nux vom “… the remedy does not make distinctions, it works whether the kid deserves it or not!”

    Thanks for the laugh!

  11. Renee says:

    Dear Joette,
    Great article as always!!!
I see in the beginning, you mention Calc Carb 30c to have. Then you mention, Calc Carb 200 every other day.
Would 30c every other day be just as good, or is 200c best?
    I also read somewhere that Calc Carb 1m 1 x a week.
    Thanks again,
    Renee

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes! All three are protocols to help with building immunity. They are somewhat interchangable. 1M once per week is good for when there are a number of other remedies being used and it makes sense to spread them out a bit. 200 is a good choice for when it is needed for overall immunity and doesn’t require constant concern, while 30 is often chosen for a situation where the immunity is very much a concern needs immediate and more concentrated attention. these are not set in stone, but gives you an good overview.

  12. Smbtv says:

I currently am using the calc phos 6x and calc Fluor 6x in milk for my growing children for their teeth. If I’m also using the banerji protocol of calc carb 30c EOD for allergies. Is this overkill?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Use the homeopathic medicines as medicine. That is, if there’s a problem, treat it. IF there isn’t, then don’t.

  13. Suki says:

Hi joette, does calcarea carb helps in weight loss (especially abdomen fat) apart from boosting immunity?
    Thank you

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It can for some. If it’s not appropriately chosen, it can add weight.
