Bad-Gut-Good-Gut-front

How to effectively rid yourself and family of food intolerances.

We can speculate 'til the cows come home as to why each generation seems to suffer more serious gut conditions, and at an earlier age, than previous ones.

Some say it’s GMOs in our food supply.

Some postulate that foods are no longer made from scratch and that fast-food chains are to blame.

Being poor Sicilian immigrants at the turn of the last century, my grandparents ate bread, bread, and bread with their pasta, pasta and more pasta.

Indeed, when they could get it, they ate an entire animal, but it was not part of their everyday diet.

For the most part, they ate wheat (and plenty of it.)

They also consumed lots of coffee, watery soups and their own homemade wine.

Given that they were raising their family during The Great Depression, quality dairy was like gold.

So was it their diets that kept them free from food allergies?

I say no.

I believe what kept my grandparents from experiencing any food intolerances was attitude.

It was their steadfast and prideful attitude that brought them to the U.S. as young adults. They were determined and willing to leave their homeland, acclimate themselves to the blizzards of Buffalo, New York, and accept they would have to start from scratch, as it were, in a foreign country; one that was not kind to Sicilians.

They also knew this meant learning a new language in order to make their dreams of a more prosperous and free life a reality.

I contend it was not their measly diets that protected them, it was their defiance, tenacity, and desire to be in charge of their own lives, despite the insurmountable odds they faced.

They needed to be able to recognize swindlers, peddlers, street con artists. And that included American marketing schemes.

Not surprisingly, this carried over into how they approached their health.

“My doctor said” or “The tests revealed” was not part of their vernacular. They didn't fall for the ubiquitous up-sells in doctors’ offices, or constant tests that “proved” they were as diligent as the rest of the country in safeguarding their health.

Instead, they said, “If you go to the hospital, you die.”

They ignored the constant pressure to get a colonoscopy, mammogram, bone density tests, PSA tests, or well-baby check-ups.

They refused to be bullied into swallowing an antibiotic for fevers, ear infections or strep throat, and they never succumbed to the ever-present belief that giving birth is a medical event nor believing that birthing is a medical event, hence scheduling their baby’s birth date in a hospital.

Because they had their babies at home, nursed them (hel- lo!), made herbs from the fields and their meager gardens, prayed the Rosary and stayed married.

In fact, they didn’t buy into any pop culture, flavor-of-the-month marketing schemes, choosing instead to rely solely on their own homemade bread and pasta (and an occasional piece of meat cooked in an insipid broth.)

They were individualists.
Uneducated and smart.
Not politically correct, but correct.
Not pawns of an industry or government program, but masters of their family’s fates.

In other words, they didn’t fall for pharmaceutical promotion campaigns or government intimidation tactics.

Because of this, one could suggest that the reason my grandparents (and probably yours, too) didn’t suffer from food intolerances is because of the quality of the food they were eating at the time.

However, I like my theory better.

It’s not what they put in their bodies, it’s what they knew in their heads.

It was … their attitude.

It was a part of who they were and was woven into the fabric of their day-to-day lives. No amount of flashy advertising for the latest pills, shots or vitamins could change that, and they never felt coerced into submitting to countless tests or doctors’ appointments the rest of the country seemed so willing to subject themselves to on a regular basis.

Simply put, they worked hard, raised their family and took care of their illnesses with old-world gusto and basic common sense.

Here I go again. This has become my mantra: it takes guts, spunk and moxie to resist the pull towards superfluous modern medicine. In my defense, it’s because I hear the same story all the time. My clients and students tell me their tales of woe regarding “conventional” medical treatments all day, every day.

Antibiotics, steroids, birth control pills, blood pressure drugs, statins, beta-blockers, anti-depressants …

Then … BAM!

The solution? I was hoping you’d ask.

  1. Stay away from unnecessary drugs. That means learning how to treat the ills your family experiences that would otherwise result in antibiotics, steroids, and the like.
  2. If you’ve already been subjected to Big Pharma drugs (and really, who hasn’t?) and now suffer from intolerances and other related conditions, know how to correct the problem. Not by avoiding the foods deemed “off-limits,” but by correcting the underlying condition.
  3. Educate yourself. I know I said this in #2, but it's worth repeating. If there’s a method that is capable of curing a disease without having to rely on synthetic pharmaceuticals every day, don't you have the right (and obligation) to know all you can about it?

The homeopathic treatment for one of the conditions most often presented in food intolerances is, of course, a Banerji Protocol I learned from my dear friends in Calcutta.

It is:

  • Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 3, taken twice daily. Its use is indicated when there is bloating, burning or gurgling in the belly. It's used to root out food intolerances when it presents with eructation, flatulence and a heavy feeling in the belly. Some people describe it as a sense of “over fullness” after meals.
  • Another most valuable Banerji protocol is Bovista 200. The homeopathic treatment for one of the conditions most often presented in food intolerances is, of course, a Banerji Protocol I've found that this particular remedy takes many weeks, even months, to begin acting. But it's one of my favorite go-to remedies for food intolerances, and allergies, in general. It’s been a needle-mover for my family.

There are many more protocols specific to this condition that I teach and use on a day-to-day basis.

Click here for the top most valuable remedies you can print and post on your refrigerator.

If your family is suffering from food intolerances, stop living a life of food abstinence!

In other words, be like your grandparents and great-grandparents: cure your family with attitude and homeopathy today, and relish in the fact you've done them proud.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Now come on…. my grandmothers were both complete basket cases. If I acted like they did, I’d be dead. And, I have spent my entire life living down their legacy. Awful. So in my case perhaps we’d have to make up imaginary grandparents.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Ok, lets imagine. Now lets give them antibiotics for every sniffle and sneeze from the time they were born, (which would have been a drugged birth) 69 vaccines by the time they reached adulthood, birth control pills once Granny entered HS and steroids when all of this caused long term chronic disease by the time they were 25. You might not have been here to report any of this. I still contend, it wasn’t the food.

      1. Hafsa Chaudhary says:

Could i use these for my 1 year old? He suffers from a milder form of eczema but I havent been able treat him, not even w homeopathy.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy is used in the same fashion regardless of age, gender, size, etc.

  2. Valerie says:

I have many food sensitivities, the worst being gluten( I’m off all grains) and eggs and dairy. Will taking these remedies really reverse these sensitivities and the inflammation that is caused by consuming these foods? Do I take these remedies for life, or just for a certain period of time?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t predict what will happen to you, but in my experience of working with hundreds of folks with this condition, I have seen the entire gamut. In some, it can resolve enough of the condition that they can live a normal life. The way the homeopathics are used is to assess and change remedies depending on the results approx. every 2 months until completion. Some show complete resolution in about a year, others take longer or shorter.

Should you be interested, Good Gut; Bad Gut maps it out.

  3. Kate says:

Once again – thank you, Joette! I especially loved the “say the rosary” part. Too few people acknowledge that God, prayer, and faith have so much to do with health and attitude. You do – and share so much good knowledge to help so many people. God bless you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, I couldn’t resist adding in that part. Thanks for your input and God bless you and yours too!

    2. Shelley says:

I loved that part also! I’ve spent so much time worrying about our health. My husband always reminds me we need to do our best, but we need to trust in God first. Thanks Joette!

  4. Ruth says:

Hi Joette, Although I agree that anxiety can cause terrible gut problems all by itself, I have seen my own infants passing bloody stools because they couldn’t tolerate gluten or dairy. My grandmother, who grew up during the Great Depression on a subsistence farm in Mississippi eating mostly corn, beans, and turnip greens said that she had never heard of a child who couldn’t tolerate his mother’s milk for any reason. Til the day she died, I’m pretty sure she didn’t believe that my son genuinely couldn’t have bread! I would like to add that she was unvaccinated and did not receive antibiotics as a child (even when pneumonia almost killed her) because they didn’t have any in Mississippi. She and her four siblings – who all survived into their eighties, were born in their parents’ home (dirt floor, outhouse) with the assistance of neighbors.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m afraid you didn’t understand my point. I do not believe that anxiety causes gut dysbiosis. The problem is modern medicine’s use of drugs and other invasive methods on the architecture of the gut. And the reason the Great Generation didn’t succumb is because they were suspicious of such methods. Advertising campaigns more often didn’t penetrate their strong wills.

      1. jaima17 says:

I love this point that you make here.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          Thanks!Pls pass it on.

  5. jaima17 says:

My Sicilian grandparents arrived in boston in 1907 and my mother was born in 1918. My mother swore that she wouldn’t get the flu in winter if she had eaten lots of greens from the garden in summer. They were healthy most of the time and when they did need medicine, they had a homeopath who made his own remedies and came to the house. His remedy cured my mother’s pneumonia. And I got the strong knowing from them that the body is a miracle and given the right circumstances it will heal.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Here, here!

  6. Martha says:

    Hello,

Do you think maybe a systemic candida and parasitic infections are a lot of the cause of gut issues, and leaky gut? Are there protocols for those?

    Thanks

    Martha

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

To blame parasites and candida is missing my point. By starting there you’ve skipped over their etiology and if you don’t get that part, the next time a sinus or urinary tract infection presents, the antibiotic that follows will set the person up for more of the same and worse.
But to answer your question, there are certainly protocols for such conditions. However, it must be discovered how it is presenting in terms of symptoms. That’s how the protocol is chosen.

  7. Paula says:

I thoroughly enjoyed this article-refreshing & I agree. Martha, I have used a doctor in Albuquerque, NM for parasite & candida tests & plant juice treatment. My experience have been good so far.

  8. Heather S. says:

Hooray for the rosary and staying married! 🙂 Great post Joette – wonderful things for us all to ponder.

I’ve been taking Bovista for a couple months and it’s helping – thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’Delighted to hear! Bovista is one of the foundation homeopathics for food intolerances. I’d love to know how it goes.

    2. Gabriela R Moss says:

How often did you take it?

  9. Michele says:

    Hi Joette,
Thank you so much for all the teaching. Quick question: Is Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum 3 or 30? I have never heard of 3, and tried looking it up, but just keep seeing 30C. Is there a 3 or is it maybe a typo? Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s not a typo. You can get most remedies in a variety of potencies. You may have to order it on the phone from a pharmacy instead of from a catalog.

  10. Ann says:

Thank you for all the wonderful information you put on here! I love your newsletter. I am dealing with a dairy intolerance in all of my children. I am wondering if it is okay to give the Aethusa in the typical pellet form that contains lactose or will that be aggravating the sensitivity while I’m trying to heal it? I hesitate using the liquid remedies because I worry about the alcohol in them being from GMO sources . . . which is bad for the gut too!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Most people who have v. severe intolerances to dairy are fine if they use one pill as a dose, but depending on the source of your remedies, you may also purchase them in sucrose instead of lactose or in water. Given the depth and breadth of your family’s ills, You might want to consider my course Good Gut Bad Gut where it goes into all of these nuances.

  11. Sacredmaiden says:

Is the Bovista effective at alleviating egg sensitivities? I did a cleanse last month that ommitted eggs. I have started earing them again and noticed bloating afterwards. It passes quickly, but it seems in line with the nausea I sometimes get from eating eggs overly scrambled (I think it’s a protein thing).

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I urge you to re-read the article. The information you’re looking for is right there.

  12. Kelly says:

So, does the patient abstain from these foods while using the bovista/aethusa, as in regular gut-healing protocols or is it okay to eat these foods or gradually increase them? Thanks for this information!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It depends on the severity of the case. If the food intollerances are extreme, its best to refrain.

  13. Layla says:

Dear Joette, I would like to take the Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum 3 for my bloating that I haven’t been able to fix through diet and supplements. I can have these made to order as a combination but I was wondering what format is best (ie granules, pillules, tablets or drops) and in which size in gram or ml? I’m looking at taking them for the recommended time. Also, what is the recommended dosage? Thanks so much in advance!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Read the label on the bottle and it will tell you how many pills equal a dose. Each manufacturing pharmacy has different amounts that comprise a dose.Use what you can get.

  14. Irene Toc says:

I never had food intolerences (dairy, wheat, white sugar, corn) until I had my appendix out when I was twenty years old. I’m now 59 and my stomach will not allow no matter what I do. But isn’t this Bovista a fungi? Can you say which of the 92 specifies this fungi is derived? Also, I tried to look into a homeopathic remedy for ocular hypertension and again one spagyric I found was also made from a fungi. Why would I want to put fungi in my body?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I think you’re not understanding what homeopathy is. You might want to read further. In homeopathy, what causes illness is what cures it.So the most poisonous of substances becomes the most powerful medicines when highly diluted in a specific mathematical method. So Bovista 200c is Bosvista diluted 200 times to the hundredth power. Dilution and succession is where the curative power comes in.

  15. Rajdeep says:

How many times a day lycoplum 200 for constipation we should take ?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Lyco 200 mw Plumbum 200 is for constipation where the stool is dry, and difficult to pass. In such a case, twice daily.

  16. Martha says:

    Hello Joette,

I think it is great what you are doing and I love reading your articles. I was wondering if the lycopodium and arsenic album combo will get rid of a possible systemic yeast issue in which is leaky gut and all kinds of gi problems and food sensitivities chemical sensitivities everything sensitivity. I have read leaky gut causes all kinds of autoimmune issues etc.

    Thank you.

    Martha

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Lyco/Ars is specific for food intolerances where there is significant bloating. I hate to keep harping on my courses, but homeopathy is an in depth science particularly when it comes to conditions such as leaky gut, etc. Good Gut Bad Gut covers exactly how to approach these conditions.

  17. Jackie says:

I have used Bovista for my almost 3 year old, in conjunction with the BP for eczema, and her eczema is now gone (hurray!). My 9 month old nursing baby breaks out in tiny red bumps when I eat gluten… I have been holding back on giving him Bovista and trying to avoid gluten myself, but it is extremely hard, as you well know. Would you advise giving it to him at a 200c? I recently started him on Calc carb 200 e3d to address some chronic nasal congestion. I don’t want to throw too much at him at this age, but I also want to get started on hopefully resolving the gluten issue.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Without taking his case, I could not advise you. Are you a student of my course Good Gut Bad Gut? I’m very clear on how to proceed in such cases in that course.

      1. Jackie says:

I’m sorry, I probably didn’t phrase that quite right. I know you can’t take his case! And I HAVE taken the GGBG course; I obviously need to listen again 🙂 I think his age is tripping me up…And I need to quit second guessing myself. Thank you for your patience!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

No problem. And the more you read, the deeper your knowledge will become.

  18. Nadia says:

    Hello Joette,
I give my son Lycop/Arsen combo for his bloating. I would also like to start him on Calc carb 30c for immune support. Will it be fine to use Calc carb while I am using Lyco/ars protocol? I assume I would have to give it at the different time of the day.
Also, would you recommend Bovista 200c when hives are present every other day or every third day? In case if there is liver pain with hives would Lycopodium 200 be considered to use?
    Thank you very much!

  19. Nadia says:

    Hello Joette,
My son currently is on Lyco/Arsen protocol for food intolerances. I would like to start him on Calc carb 30c for immune support and growing pains. Will it be fine to use Calc carb 30c while on the other protocol? I assume I would have to take it at the different time of the day.
Also, when hives are present would it be helpful to use Bovista200c every other day or every third day? And when there is liver pain with hives would Lycopodium 200c be considered to use?
    Thank you very much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, yes and yes. These may be used in the method/s you mention. Nice job!

  20. Tammy says:

I recently purchased the Top 100 remedies kit and would like to use the remedy for GI bloating which directs the use of Arsenicum 3 (BP). Can you please help me to understand what the “BP” stands for? And am I understanding correctly that the kit does not contain this remedy? If not, do you have any other recommendations? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

BP= Banerji Protocol and its my way of giving credit to their work. Nux vomica, Pulsatilla and Lycopodium are all medicines in your kit that can help with certain kinds of bloating conditions, but if you hope to see the kinds of results I describe, its best to use what I discuss in the article.

  21. Heidi (Neufeld) Grasse says:

i enjoyed this article very much. i especially liked the comment ‘needle-mover’ because it is so hopeful. Would you give examples of how Bovista ‘tipped the needle’. These examples are so encouraging to me as I work on figuring out things for myself and my loved ones.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Simply put, it has a reputation for correcting food intolerances and other allergies. I cover its use in my on line course “Good Gut Bad Gut” and my newest course “Allergic”.

  22. BetteJo Andolino Becker says:

Joette, loved your article. Sadly, many of my family members, on my father’s Sicilian side, have autoimmune issues-Hashimotos, Graves, Thyroid cancer, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Menieres Disease, and Fibromyalgia. My great grandparents came from Valledolmo, Sicily and settled in the Buffalo area of NY. We could be related! LOL!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Too funny! I mean the part about being related.

      1. BetteJo says:

Joette, I have seen Calabrese relatives on my Ancestry DNA account. I will have to check my 23 and Me, My Family Tree DNA, and my Gedmatch accounts too. Surnames that I have are: Campisi/Compisi, Cino, Guarino, Barone, Abinante Fina, Borzillieri, Grando, Andolina, Gugino, Ognibene, Privitera, Teresi, and I might be missing a few…Probably related to several families in the Palermo area of Sicily. Whew…I am a genealogy junkie!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Like most of us, I have always wanted to delve into my family’s origins but have not carved out the time.

  23. Stephanie says:

I just discovered my son is sensitive to phenols, most likely in fruit since we rarely eat processed food. He presents with red ears, hyperactivity, inappropriate laughter, speech issues, impulsivity, minor aggression, headache, impatience, short attention span, stomach aches, and dyslexia. I know you can’t take his case, and as much as I’d love to take the Good Gut, Bad Gut course, it’s simply not in our budget right now. My question is, can Bovista help with these types of symptoms? I just ordered some from OHM for my daughter who has more typical symptoms of food intolerances, so I thought I’d try it for him, too, if it can impact his symptom profile. Thanks for any help you can give. I took the Study Group course (which I loved) and I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. I love how responsive you are to questions. 🙂 Have a blessed day!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Bovista is one of the main medicines used for food intolerance. There are more that are needed to flesh out the overall condition,so don’t expect it to uproot everything you’ve reported.

      1. Stephanie says:

Thank you! At least it gives us somewhere to start. We’ve done the GAPS diet in the past which helped tremendously, but we’ve since moved and just don’t have the time or resources we once had. When my study group leader told me she healed her family’s food intolerances with Bovista I was floored. I wish I had known about it before we started GAPS!

Btw, I read the post about infected surface cysts and saw in the comments that you would post an article about internal cysts. I was looking for it because my husband has a couple of ganglion cysts and I have some fibroids, but my search turned up empty. Have you posted about that yet?

        Thanks again!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          Not posted anything yet.

  24. Natalya says:

Joette, I have a question: in Banerji Protocol for food intolerances what potency of Arsenicum Album should I use: 3x or 3c? Thank you very much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Where did you find Arsenicum album 3 for food intolerance?

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

My students get it from OHM, the pharmacy we connected them to, but you might try Washington Pharmacy in W. Virgina, Hahnemann in CA or Helios in England.

      2. Natalya says:

Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 3, taken twice daily. – that’s from this article. I can order both, but I’m not sure which potency to order for Arsenicum Album 3: is it “x” or “c”?

  25. Natalya says:

Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 3, taken twice daily. – that’s from this post. I can order both, but I’m not sure which potency to order for Arsenicum Album 3: is it “x” or “c” or “m”…?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you have a choice, 3c.

      1. Natalya says:

        Thank you!

  26. Carli says:

Thanks so much for all the great info you post on this website! You’re a trusted resource and I’ve been amazed in the results I’ve seen for myself and especially in my young daughter. Quick question, for the Bovista remedy, do you recommend just one dose every other day? Or multiple doses every other day? I have struggled with food I tolerances for a long time and just ordered some. Thanks so much for the help and info!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Happy to hear that you’re having good results. Pls share your results with your circle of influence.Consider starting a study group to do that and learn faster.

I use Bovista 200, one dose every other day.

  27. Carli says:

Good idea! I find I am still easing friends and family into it. Slowly but surely! 🙂 thanks for the clarification and quick response!

  28. Jane says:

I started Bovista along with Petroleum a month ago for allergic dermatitis and food intolerances which also manifest as mild blepharitis and secondary mild chalazion / meibomian gland dysfunction……but I am not yet seeing any results….should I add something specifically for dermatitis and blepharitis / gland dysfuntion in addition to Bovista?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We use the medicine that is specific to how the allergic conditions presents PLUS Bovista for the allergic etiology. Also, it will likely take many months to experience improvement once all of these medicines are put into place. I wish I could tell you that its as simple as taking only one medicine for allergies, but allergies are so individualized that they need more than that. If you want to learn more, you might want to consider checking out my course “Allergic”. Otherwise you’ll not get the entire picture and will likely be disappointed in your results.

  29. Carrie L Cheek says:

I started my daughter and I on Lyco 200C eod for gas and bloating because I thought I had read that somewhere. I did not add Arsc. because there was no burning or gurgling present. However, I cannot find where I read that. Now I’m afraid I mistaken it eod for the article of Cal Carb 200 eod. Should I just stop Lyco 200C eod and study more or start taking it twice daily as I have read and just without the arsc? How long for 200C twice daily. Until all symptoms subside or just when improvement is noticed?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Are you a student of my Good GUt Bad GUt Course?

      1. Carrie says:

I wish. I can’t afford it at this time. I have bought the combo kit and the cell salt kit and have been listening to the CD’s and reading your blog. I know it’s also best to stick with a protocol but I have found since taking Lyco 200 eod that the off day I have old symptoms of depression and anxiety and mental fog. Quite un-nerving. It cleared up the next day but then I take it again trying to follow through. I have thought of taking a break to see if my emotional status evens out. It alarms me in trying to do this homeopathy alone. I fear in my case it may be better to save up and call and have a consultation. I’ve read all kinds of things on “aggravation” and “proving” and trying to antidote to just going through a healing crisis. I am NOT skilled in telling the difference. I’m losing my confidence.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

THese protocols generally don’t cause an aggravation or healing crises. Those terms are used in classical homeopathy, not for this method. If there’s improvement but it doesn’t hold up for more than a day of use, and the protocol is twice daily, that is probably the cause of the downward slide of symptoms. Particularly since the protocol you’re using is a twice daily sched. Having said this, I think you need to have more knowledge before continuing.

          1. Carrie L Cheek says:

Thanks for clarifying. I agree, much more knowledge needs to be obtained. I’m going back to starting with the cell salts and studying that and I’ve been reading the MM in the Cure your family with every down time I get. You are just so enthusiastic in your podcast and I love your blogs that it makes me excited and I want to jump in and be a part of something great.

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Carrie, consider starting or joining one of our study groups. You’ll learn a ton, have an instant set of like-minded friends and its inexpensive.

  30. Amy G. says:

    Hi –

Is Bovista 200 recommended for excess phlegm production? I’m assuming that that is a symptom of food intolerance but I’m not sure. Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t use homeopathic medicines based on assumptions. If it is indeed an allergy or food intolerance, it may be of value.

      1. Amy G. says:

Thank you! I see your point. But, I have no way of knowing the root cause or reason why since this is a constant, 24/7 problem. I have Bovista 200 on hand so I’ll give it a go. 🙂

  31. Danielle says:

I have ordered the Bovista 200 for my children’s food allergies. Will it also help move the needle for pet allergies (allergies to pet dander and saliva)? Thanks Joette.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Bovista is for allergies in general, but when there is a prominent allergic reaction to animals, it is not the most specific. I’m not willing to discuss this in a blog because it requires a good deal of understanding in order to use the info I teach. Should you be interested, I’d advise you to consider taking my course, “Allergic” where it is fully fleshed out.

  32. Ashley says:

What about potency for babies? My 10 month old has shown evidence of food allergies to wheat, dairy, peanuts plus maybe more that I haven’t pinpointed yet. What would be a safe protocol for a baby as I have described? His reactions are bloating, mucusy stool, abdominal discomfort and rash.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We use the same potencies and frequencies for a baby as for an adult

  33. Mary Herman says:

I am going to add BP protocol for bad gut, hoping this will also help my auto-immune disorders. I am also using BP protocol for arthritis, depression, and now bad gut… Do I need to space these protocols at times?

  34. I’m a member of Allergic!? and I’m trying to follow the protocols but I have some questions:

Lyc 200c and Ars 3c are recommended for bloating, can I use Ars 6c instead while I can find Ars 3c? I’m still waiting to complete the course to be able to buy from ohm.

Also lately I’m presenting some hives, but the protocol indicates Ant Crud 6c and Ars 200c, is there any problem on using both Ars 3c (or 6c) and Ars 200c at the same time?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Please go to the student page for Allergic!? and post your course questions there.

  35. Hi Joette,

Could you please share with me the link to the Allergic!? course questions section? As I don’t see any in the Student Resource Page.

Also I’ve been trying to join the FB group but I haven’t been accepted yet even though I wrote to the administrator because my FB username doesn’t match my name or email.

    Thanks again Joette.

  36. Kate Avello says:

Hello, I’m really interested in reading the article Best Food Intolerances: Act Like Your Grandparents but all I see under that title is Pairing Homeopathy and Essential Oils During Childbirth. Is anyone else having this problem?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve got my web tech looking into this for you.

  37. Aly says:

Your chart says bovista 200 for food tolerances in general and aethusa 200 for intolerance to dairy, so it’s best to take bovista 200 once daily if there are food sensitivities/allergies to more than just dairy? Aethusa 200 is just good for a person if they have dairy intolerance only?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Aethusa is more specific for diary intollerances and if there’s a learning disability its indicated even more, while Bovista is specific to food intollerances and allergies in general.

      1. Mohamed Farook says:

iam having chronic diarrhoe for the past 20 years due to food intolerance.will bovista improve my condition?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Generally, there’s more to it than just Bovista. A good start because Bovista is specific for food intolerances and allergies, if indeed that is the cause, but now you must add another medicine to the schedule that covers the actual set of symptoms. Should you be interested, I cover this fully in my course titled Good Gut Bad gut.

You might also want to look on this blog for diarrhea blogs that I’ve published.

  38. Aly says:

Alright, thank you. And when you say that certain strong smells or drinking coffee, using tea tree oil, & mint toothpaste can render a remedy ineffective, is there a certain amount of time before or after taking a remedy to avoid these things or you cannot use them at all while using homeopathic remedies? Our family uses tea tree oil daily topically & in toothpaste.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the person is super sensitive and the amount odor is strong, then the remedy might be antidoted but if the homeopathic will be repeated daily, there should be little to no concern.

  39. sandradee says:

    hello Joette,
I am considering starting lyco/ars twice a day for digestive issues..while i have belching, (the kind that gets stuck in my chest and throat and I have to pat my chest to push the burp out since it is very uncomfortable, but it does relieve pressure pain) also there is much gurgling after meals, and rumbling in between meals.. but , no severe bloating…so here are questions:
Without severe bloating in GI tract, but significant eructation and gurgling after meals, would lyco/ars be the choice for such symptoms or would nat phos be the front runner to consider? does lack of bloating eliminate lyco/ars ?
Is it best to start the correction with cell salt first, then progress to BP when no more improvements are seen? would either be a correct choice?
from what i can understand nat phos is correcting the gas felt immediately, and may correct acid balance but lyco/ars is to uproot the digestive issues?
If that is correct, wouldn’t both be used? For acute ( eructations), and chronic (digestive issues)?

  40. Joce says:

Hi Joette! I was wondering, would the Lyco/Ars combination be helpful to treat Postcholecystectomy syndrome from the gallbladder being removed? It sounds as thought the gas and bloating part with stomach cramping would fit the picture but as well as those issues there is undigested food in the stool. Would this protocol cover all of that? It almost sounds too easy!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the symptoms are there, and the remedy is well chosen, it can indeed be that easy. You want to be sure you’re covering how the condition presents in all its forms that remain noteworthy. That might mean using 4 protocols including one that’s specific for gallbladder, one that includes how its presenting (bloating), one for undigested food in stool and one for stomach cramping.

  41. Jocelyn Fox says:

  42. Lynn says:

Does this apply for confirmed celiac? I carry the gene and have had all the work done to confirm my celiac. Com it really be cured? My numbers and body feel best not consuming gluten or dairy for that matter. Any thoughts?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are specific protocols for celiac. The idea is to be able to eat food without concern for this condition or that…including celiac. I teach how to approach this in greater depth in my course, Good Gut Bad Gut.

  43. Barb says:

I see the BP for dairy intolerance is Aethusa 200. How often is it taken? (once daily, twice daily, every other day?)

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It depends on the situation: (degree, age, other corresponding conditions). I teach how to differentiate and how to interpret results after time, in my course, Good Gut, Bad Gut.

  44. Janet Miller says:

Wow brilliant articles – my problem is constant stomach bloating no matter what I am eating or drinking – I’ve tried probiotics and feel they have done nothing for me – probably made it worse – and when I take them now I find they flatten the bloat for 4 days then my whole body blows up. What remedy would you recommend for me – to stop this bloat because I am now finding I am restricting my diet so much to avoid foods or not eating because I have this bloated belly – I am slim apart from the bloat.. I do have food sensitivities and would dearly love to eat things I can’t I have been taking lycopodium in a 4LM dose but that doesn’t seem to be doing anything – please can you help me as I am at my wits end now with it

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have put together an entire course specific to everything you’ve discussed here.

Should you be interested, the course title is Good Gut, Bad Gut and you go to it by clicking here. Advanced.joettecalabrese.com/GGBG

      1. Janet Miller says:

Thank you for replying – with regard to remedies – how would you take the lycopodium and ars alb – would you take them separately would you take them as a dry dose or as a wet dose (what does BP mean after the 3c ars alb remedy). With regard to Bovista – what isi the strength of that remedy and how many times per day do you take it – once or three times

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

These are too sweeping a set of questions to answer on a forum such as this. They and many others are answered along with the entire strategy are offered in my course, Good Gut Bad Gut.

          1. Janet Miller says:

Thank you for replying I understand – one final question do the remedies have to be in the potency you mention or could lyco and ars alb both being taken in a 30c potency and have same results

  45. Kristin Oakerson says:

I cannot find Arsenicum Album in 3c potency. Help!!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you are a student or client of mine you have access to a pharmacy in Texas that sells the medicines I discuss in my blog, etc.

  46. Linda C says:

Do you need to match more of the symptom picture of Bovista to take it if you have food intolerance’s and allergies or is that enough symptoms to have to take it? assuming ones vitality is good and nothing has to be treated first. would it work to take it in a 6c first if someone is sensitive to 200c remedies?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I use protocols which offer specific potencies and frequencies. When we play around with them, the results will likely be wanting.

  47. Natalie Visser says:

My sister is very sensitive to carbs or I will say processed carbs ( the more sugary the worse it is) she doesn’t have GI symptoms but gets very fatigued. It’s a mental and physical fatigue but the mental fatigue is the worst. Brain fog/ depressed type state/ can’t think/ sensitive to light. My question is would this be considered a food sensitivity? I was thinking of having her take Bovista but not sure if what she experiences is in the same category? Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I could be but it might also be a blood sugar condition and the protocol would be different. It’s not critical to know what the etiology is but spend more time on how it presents. In other words, use the symptoms as representatives of the deeper condition.

      1. Natalie Visser says:

Is there a certain way one would look that up on your website? I tried looking up blood sugar problem but didn’t find much for what I’m looking for. Any direction of how to search when focusing on how it presents? Thanks!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t believe I’ve written a post on blood sugar, but my course Good Gut Bad GUt covers this and all food intolerances thoroughly.

  48. Patricia Fitzsimmons says:

Joette, I love your website! My husband has a dairy intolerance so I want him to start on Aethusa 200 based on your graphic in this blog (especially since it’s a Banerji Protocol) BUT how many times per day should he be taking the remedy? If you can’t answer that on this forum, would the Banerji Protocol book have that info.? My husband doesn’t believe it could work and I WANT TO PROVE HIM WRONG! I realize it could take many months to work but I think it’s worth a shot. Thank you in advance. Pat

  49. Meraf says:

Hi Joette! I sincerely want to thank you for the plethora of information you provide! God bless you! I am addicted to your blogs and podcasts. I can’t wait until I am able to take your courses—especially Good Gut Bad Gut as that is my biggest health concern. I am currently working on healing my SIBO and Candida issues along with low stomach acid, and have been doing so with alternative medicine approaches and dietary changes. I want to employ the Lycopodium 200 and Arsencium album 3 protocol as I do struggle with an immense amount of bloating, gas and gurgling. However, I am currently on the Hepar Sulph 200 mixed with Arsenicum Album 200 every other day protocol for acne (which I have already been noticing some positive results). Both protocols use Arsenicum but with different potencies. So I am not sure how to approach that. Can you take different potencies of a remedy at the same time? I also want to make sure that I am approaching this in a correct manner. Based on what I have gathered from your blogs, it’s best to treat the etiology as well as how symptoms present. My acne is definitely related to my gut issues so I do need to address the underlying cause (I.e. SIBO, Candida, stomach acid etc.) I am hoping to employ homeopathy remedies for those once I am able to take the Good Gut Bad Gut course. In the meantime, I do want to at least start the Lycopodium 200 and Arsencium album 3 to get relief from the bloating and gas. Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I make a point of teaching what I can on my blog, in articles, on FBLive and Podcasts for conditions that are simple with easy to follow instructions. I save the more complex conditions for the courses since they generally require more training. Given what you’ve described, for the sake of expediency and accuracy, I can’t urge you enough to consider taking the Good GUt Bad Gut Course as soon as possible. It will help not only with what your present situation but will teach how to move to the next protocol or medicine seamlessly. And that is where the gold is…in knowing how to follow up.

  50. Meraf says:

Thanks Joette! I completely agree with what you are saying—knowledge is power! I am hoping to take the course in the next month or so. I think I kind of went off on a tangent on my last question. Hopefully this will clarify it: My immediate gut concern right now is the bloating and gas and gurgling and would like to get started on the Lycopodium 200 and Arsenicum Album 3 protocol. However, I am currently on the Hepar Sulph 200 and Arsenicum Album 200 protocol for acne. How would I employ the different potencies of Arsencium Album? Meaning, is it ok to take Arsenicum 3 and 200 at the same time for different conditions?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Once the medicines are mixed, such as in Lyco200/Ars3, I consider it an entirely new medicine. I certainly consider that both may incorporate Arsenicum, but it’s not as much of a concern as long as they are clearly necessary.

  51. Chane says:

Would this work for chronic diarrhea and eczema?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its a start, but probably more than that would need to be included. You might want to consider my course”Good Gut Bad GUt.

      1. Katelyn Nieboer says:

Hello, I am wondering if it is recommended to keep foods eliminated while starting the remedies if you have already eliminated them from your diet and over time try eating them again one by one to determine if you are still having a negative reaction? Or do you just freely eat those foods whilst taking the remedies and wait for the day you no longer feel/notice a reaction?

I read in your blog post here where you write, “stop living a life of food abstinence”, and “Not by avoiding the foods deemed “off limits”, but by correcting the underlying condition.”, so I’m trying to understand what is best to do in the diet while taking the remedies.

        Thanks for all your info!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you really want to gain the skills needed to go forward with this, you might want to take my course, Good Gut, Bad Gut. It is a very important aspect of how to approach this subject.

  52. Donna Hughes says:

I have requested the “Most Valuable Remedies” print-out several times, but it never makes it to my email box. I receive all the other remedy cards just fine. I’d really like to have that – do you have a link? Thank you!

  53. Helen says:

Hello Joette, thanks for all you do for us! I consider you one of my Italian mothers and appreciate all of your advice. Before I took your good got bad cut course, I went to a functional medicine Doctor Who did a food sensitivity test on me. Gluten as well as 25 other foods showed positive on the test. I can’t say that I notice any adverse reactions when eating any of the foods listed, so how will I know when the intolerance has been uprooted? Also still confused about taking Bovista 200 every other day or every day, as I’ve read both ways.

  54. Helen says:

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t treat something that’s not broken. If someone doesn’t have illness, symptoms, etc. and can eat gluten, etc. without consequence, then there’s nothing to treat. I find many allergy tests to be incorrect.
Bovista is used e. day when allergies or food intolerances are more severe.

    2. Amber says:

I am interested in taking the Good Gut Bad Gut course. I just have one question – can one do two protocols at the same time? Such as the food intolerance protocol along with say a hernia protocol? Or are they best done one at a time/subsequently?

      Thanks!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

One of the most important reasons to take my online courses is to learn how to stack remedies in one schedule.

        1. Amber says:

          Thanks!

  55. A.D. says:

    Hi Joette,

What remedies would you recommend for multiple food intolerances (celiac included),metal and latex allergies.I belive my food intolerances weakened my immune system, along with antibiotics usage as a young child, being fed boiled cow milk instead of breast milk, fed store bought biscuits at a young age of 1.5 month. Now,as a 43 year old,I developed eczema due to pet hair, metals (nickel and aluminum),latex and feathers.Dairy and eggs give me stomach pains and hives/acne.I have always ate all foods, organic and homemade. Also,my tonsils have always been inflamed and had/have a hard time swallowing. At 14 I had my appendix removed,so I know my gut is a terrible mess, even though I eat very healthy, the old fashion way of eating (minus the gluten).
Is there a remedy,or a combination of remedies, that would cover all intolerances and allergies that are causing my whole body eczema? The stinging and oozing drives me nuts.
Also, which course would fit me best?
    Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Hands down, the best course for you to start with is Good Gut Bad Gut. Not only because it specifically addresses what your concerns are but because I teach the 1st steps in managing the case. That’s not to mention that the gut and food intolerances are often at the core of allergies particularly if there’s a history of antibiotics.
You’ll find it on this page.https://joettecalabrese.com/tag/homeopathic-courses/

  56. Karina says:

Is it a good idea for a pregnant or breastfeeding mom to begin using homeopathic remedies to uproot her own food sensitivities / intolerances that are showing up mainly as headaches and skin rashes? Years ago I took Sulphur 30 and 200 while nursing my 12 month old. After a few days, my daughter developed rash skin and patches of red, like eczema. I stopped taking it, and her skin eventually cleared up. Knowing it’s advised not to treat for something that doesn’t have symptoms, and if mom only has evidence of food sensitivities and not baby, should mom postpone treating until after baby is weaned? I’m guessing the answer is yes, but maybe my logic is not correct!?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

Treating the mom while nursing is an opportunity to get it right for both mother and child in one shot.

  57. Karina says:

Even if it’s currently unknown whether or not baby will have any food intolerances? If that’s irrelevant in this equation then that sure makes things easier 🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

We usually use the mother’s symptoms and treat her.

  58. Jessica says:

    Hi Joette,
I am really enjoying learning about homeopathy! Thank you for your free blog. I’m going to take Gateway to Homeopathy one once summer starts. I am feeling down specifically for myself because I have taken a few remedies and each one causes me to be extremely bloated. I was wondering if that is normal? Am I doing something wrong? It’s very uncomfortable and I end up stopping. Thanks!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

It’s common when the remedy is not correctly chosen. You’ll find it much easier once you start in a study group with Gateway to Homeopathy.

  59. Marianna says:

My son gets eczema type rashes all over the backs of his knees, and then spreads over the back of legs and his bottom, as well as at the elbow creases. Rashes would come and go, until we figured out that it was connected to specific foods he ate. Now we’re pretty certain it’s actually artificial food coloring that is the problem. The other day he ate 1 pickle and the back of his knees flared up hot, red, swollen and itchy. I checked the ingredient label, and wouldn’t you know it- they added artificial yellow dye to the pickles!

Does Bovista fit in the case of this type of food allergy where technically it’s not the actual food that’s causing the reaction but rather a chemical that’s been added to the food?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

People who have allergies to food additives also have allergies to other substances. Having said this, if it’s crystal clear that the only substance that causes a problem is a dye, then Bovista is in the running along with other medicines such as Calc carb, Arsenicum, etc.

  60. Marianna says:

The other remedies you mentioned were chosen specifically for allergies or because of the skin rashes? I’m taking notes! 🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

They’re chosen based on the keynotes (the main characteristics) of each one.
This means we choose according to the condition and how it fits with the remedy.
So to directly answer your question, I chose these based on food intolerances.
