They thought they had found the answer to human illness.
In fact, this one discovery pretty much launched the pharmaceutical industry, which became dedicated to the development of even more drugs and who set out to deliberately alter the entire paradigm of Western medicine into the “there’s the symptom; here’s the drug” attitude we see today.
Little did those first researchers know what they were allowing to run riot on humanity!
An entire medical system became dedicated to suppressing symptoms through the use of ever-more-powerful drugs. Not unlike much of modern medicine’s exploits, it’s a sad story of a good idea gone wrong.
But when I think about the damage done to the health of so many through the use of these drugs, I feel more mad than sad.
As a homeopathic consultant, educator and student for nearly 28 years, I have seen case after case of chronic illness that can be traced back to well-intentioned doctors who used one drug after another to manage the symptoms of simple conditions such as fevers, earaches, sore throats, acne, eczema, rashes and gastrointestinal problems.
All of which are easily and swiftly removed with homeopathic remedies and without side effects.
Sincerity is overrated.
And the result of the onslaught of these drugs?
Hay fever, asthma, ADHD, MRSA, autism, chronic fatigue, allergies, eczema and other life-altering skin conditions, food intolerances and many other chronic illnesses can be found at a far higher rate than ever before.
Most of these conditions were unheard of in the 1930s.
And now add obesity to the list.
You may have heard of the USA Today article about the link between antibiotics and childhood obesity. (If you haven’t, it’s worth your time to look it up.) According to USA Today, a new study shows that children who receive numerous antibiotics before age 2 are “slightly more likely than others to become obese.”
The study looked at the health records of nearly 65,000 children from 2001 to 2013 and found that nearly 70% received oral antibiotics by age 2, with an average of 2.3 rounds of antibiotics per child. Approximately 23% of the children in the study were overweight by age 2, 30% by age 3 and 33% by age 4. Approximately 10% were considered obese by age 2, 14% by age 3 and 15% by age 4. (That seems like a bit more than “slightly more likely” to me!)
Where’s the science behind those pediatricians’ decisions to even give a child under the age of two an average of 2.3 rounds of antibiotics?
The article quotes coauthor Charles Bailey, an assistant professor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, as saying, “Many scientists are now concerned that exposure to antibiotics – from medication, food or even tap water – has the potential to kill off some of the beneficial bacteria that may protect people from chronic diseases.”
This is not the only study exploring the effect of antibiotics on human health. These studies demonstrate something that few people understand about the human body.
We’re not alone.
We are actually an entire ecosystem. The human body hosts around 100 trillion microbes, and a growing body of evidence about this “microbiome” suggests that these microbes play a key role in keeping us healthy.
Our body is designed with a wonderful defense system that identifies foreign “bad” microbes and eliminates them without harming the benign and helpful microbes.
Antibiotics, on the other hand, slaughter the good along with the bad. It’s a sledgehammer approach to health, and homeopaths have known this all along.
But now the general public and modern medicine are getting a handle on it.
However, I’d wager that nothing will change because the pediatricians don’t have any other method to treat infections other than antibiotics.
Instead, you’re likely to hear words such as, “Yes, this is an antibiotic, but it’s a mild one,” or “This is not like those nasty ones we used to use.”
Meanwhile, like a dinosaur dragging through Manhattan, conventional pediatrics is looking more archaic than ever.
For simple acute illnesses and first aid situations, instead of falling back on the drugs of the 1940s, a better solution can be found in your homeopathy kit, a good book on how to use it or a course or two.
If you’ve been reading my blogs, you already know this.
The right remedy will quickly restore health without damaging the body.
Done.
But the really good news? If you are one of the millions of people in North America who grew up in this pill-pushing, shot-giving medical system and experience chronic problems as a result, homeopathy can still help!
With the right homeopathic protocols, even chronic sufferers can be restored to health, balance and well-being!
Refer to my old blogs, keep up with the new ones, and get smart on how to treat your microbes.
That’s homeopathy!
OK, I know what you’re waiting for … the protocol that will help obesity, right?
Well, for anyone with gut issues as a result of antibiotics, if there is bloating (and this must be present), gurgling, distention and gas, the best choice, per the Banerji Protocols, is
1) Lycopodium 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 6X, twice daily.
Additionally, I’d add
2) Calc carb 30, once daily for the resulting obesity.
Sometimes other remedies must also be considered. For example, if this is presenting during puberty or if acne or eczema is associated with the condition.
Hence, there’s generally more to this than just the two above remedies, depending on age, hormone issues, gender, etc., but here’s a good start for your child.
