Good Gut, Bad Gut: FAQ

“Read the Science. Raise Your Hand. Ask Your Questions. Learn the Facts”

Many of you have asked very good questions, so I know you are learning the facts.

1) I can’t see my insides … how do I know if my gut is good or bad?

he relationship between digestion and overall health is much more far-reaching than simply experiencing frank gastrointestinal symptoms. Various mental and physical ailments, such as ADD and autoimmune diseases, have been observed to have their origins in poor digestive health. The way you might know if an illness is related to the gut is if there are chronic problems that began after a gastrointestinal event, even years previous. Also,  if foods seem to be bothersome, even if the symptoms present in remote areas such as on the skin, the respiratory tract or neurologically, it can potentially mean the gut is disturbed and is worth investigation.

2) Should I have allergy tests?

Many folks find that allergy tests given by conventional allergists are archaic and misleading offering contradicting and even erroneous information.  What matters in homeopathy is not so much what you are allergic to, but merely the fact that you have allergies and or food intolerances.

3) How can you tell if you have a food intolerance? What causes them?

Some of the symptoms of food intolerances can include: bloating, gas, irregular bowels, moodiness, depression, anger, chronic fatigue, arthritis or any chronic condition. When we look at the research chronicled in the vast literature on homeopathy, we find that the causes of food intolerances and allergies, in general, come from a combination of inheritance along with overuse of vaccines, antibiotics and medical treatments in general.

4) What are the most common food intolerances?

Generally, food intolerances show up in the foods we also know to be the “worst” foods: commercially prepared meals and snacks, refined sugar, pasteurized dairy, but also sometimes wholesome foods such as raw dairy and heirloom grains. However, with proper dietary management until the selected homeopathic remedies act fully, in time these sensitivities can be reduced to a mere twinge, if not completely eliminated. Our inability to handle small amounts of these allergens is a sign of our immune system interruption.

5)  If antibiotic ruination of the gut is the problem, why not just use probiotics?

I certainly think probiotics can be useful and a good place to start! Many people experience great healing from regularly consuming kombucha, sauerkraut, beet kvass, kefir, etc. However, sometimes that is not enough. That's when homeopathy comes in.

6) Why isn’t diet enough?

Diet should be enough. But because of processed food, vaccinations, antibiotics, bad dentistry (mercury fillings and root canals, for a start), our systems have become overloaded and more importantly, not allowed to present with normal acute illness.  For example, every time a child has an ear infection, sore throat or fever, he is given an antibiotic and Tylenol. This suppresses the child’s ability to show vitality and cure itself.  This method of treatment drives the disease deeper and creates a state which can later cause more sobering illness. Conditions such as chronic fatigue, food intolerances and other persistent conditions will begin to surface. A return to a traditional diet and a more natural lifestyle is a super start, but it is sadly often not enough. That is where homeopathy comes in; we use it to uproot what diet cannot. The results can often be remarkable.

7) How are mental disorders related to an unhealthy gut?

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, the author of Gut and Psychology  Syndrome, studied the health of hundreds of patients with autism, learning disabilities, psychiatric illness and other problems. She found that in nearly all cases these children and adults suffered digestive problems. Her thorough investigation of this subject disclosed a stunning connection between damaged intestinal flora, meager digestion and toxicity from chemicals created by undigested foods. She found that these characteristics can cause an effect on the chemistry of the brain.

Dr. Campbell-McBride tells us that when certain carbohydrates are digested improperly, it causes an overgrowth of candida and other microorganisms intended to remain in check. The result is a simultaneous production of acetaldehyde and ethanol.

Her research suggests that certain chemicals have been shown to have weighty penalties on brain chemistry, which in turn cause delays in emotional and intellectual advancement as well as abnormal behavior, mental retardation, memory loss and even stupor.

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride also makes it clear that although diet and the cessation of the use of conventional medications are key, homeopathy also ought to be employed.

8) So, what do you advocate?

I agree with the good doctor and homeopathic masters. It makes sense that we ought to refrain from superfluous drugs, employ a most wholesome diet of nutrient-dense foods, and count on homeopathy to uproot initial and ongoing problems. The sooner this is done, the sooner relief from chronic illness will be enjoyed. Most importantly, the information on how to achieve this is not as elusive as it used to be. We can learn to take care of ourselves and our families at home. What I  hope to relay to folks in my upcoming class, is designed to empower students of homeopathy in this specific way.

9) Do I have to have knowledge of homeopathy to learn from your course?

No! This course is designed specifically for those who have been struggling to find the answers to their chronic and gut-related problems. However, the more knowledge you have of any subject the more you will get out of it.

I’m teaching this course using mostly the Banerji Protocol, hence sidestepping the complexity of classical homeopathic methodology. This will allow folks with no training in homeopathy as well as those with plenty, to find this information fresh and exciting.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Great blog, makes a lot of sense.

I spent years trying to rigidly follow various anti-candida diets and kept failing over and over again because of my body’s need for sweet foods. I thought that I was weak and addicted to carbs, but now I believe that we have a need for good quality sugars in our diets – honey! fruit! maple syrup! ice cream! swiss dark chocolate! – and that low carb diets result in stress, both mental and physical, and do not provide the long term physical health that their advocated promise. I think that we crave and love sweet foods because they are a natural and healthy part of our diet. Human breast milk for example is quite sweet.

That is why I am SO excited about this course. I truly believe that homeopathy has the ability to help our gut issues in a manner that is gentle and kind and works WITH our natural instincts rather than against them.

I have observed many people who had food intolerances or even allergies (milk, wheat and freshwater fish to be specific) that mysteriously went away after a few years of avoiding those foods, without making any other particular efforts to micromanage their diets. In some cases I know that these people had homeopathy treatment for other issues during that period, in other cases it seems that their body did the healing work on its own, but in all cases they were surprised to be able to eat these foods again when they happened to re-try them.

If the body has the ability to do this healing on its own over the course of years, without our conscious intervention, I believe that homeopathy can speed up the process, resulting in health that is not the fruit of years of miserable hard work and denial, but rather the fruit of joyful rest and appreciation for the bounty that surrounds us. It allows us to focus our attention outward, on our family and work and passions, while homeopathy stimulates our bodies to do the healing work they were designed to do on their own, instead of inward where our stress and inability to control our bodies and our health drive us into exhaustion.

    Thank you Joette!

Hi Joette..I have been suffering from gut issues for years and tried everything including homeopathy. My major issues started with many parasitic infections from living for years in central america. I really want to take your course but am going thru a divorce and cannot afford the cost. Do you ofer any type of discounts?

  4. Kimberly says:

Hi Joette, I am 5’6.5″ and only 105 lbs. I have desperately been trying to gain weight, but unable for months. I went for a blood panel and sample by a functional practitioner and it came back I had vitamin/mineral deficiencies (especially vitamin D) and that I had high yeast/fungus.

I have been trying my best on the Body Ecology Diet, but with so many foods to avoid in the hopes of starving the yeast, I find I am hungry a lot. With so little food options I am losing more weight. Will this course explain your recommended course of action for Candida and how I can gain some desperately needed weight.

    Thank you, Kim

It’s not just interesting, but definitely revealing, too that Dr. Campbell-McBride’s research reinforces what Ayurveda has been telling us for the last 6,000 years. Ayurveda believes that the functions of the liver are not just connected to digestion and nutrition uptake. It is also the seat of negative and positive emotions that indicate the state of health of the organ. Anger, hate, resentment, envy, emotional irritability, frustration, impatience, and excessive ambition relate to an imbalanced pitta dosha or bile element. When the bile or pitta element is well balanced then positive emotions are displayed, such as will power, courage, confidence, contentment, satisfaction, enthusiasm, cooperation, acceptance, and surrender or the ability for adjustment. The simple take-away from this priceless knowledge is that our health and emotional wellbeing depends heavily on a healthy liver and digestion.

the gut problem protocol on GGBG lists lyco/ars, is it possible to use only lyco, because when I read up on the materia about the ars, then it does not match with any symptoms I have, but the lyco does very well. so, can one only use the lyco and not the ars to cure that gut problem

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Sometimes Lyco alone is just the ticket while LYco/Ars is a better choice. Often the addition of Ars is determined by the presentation of burning.

  7. Sonja says:

Thanks, this is very good info. I am so grateful for your website and your courses and your immense help.

Consider joining a Gateway 1 Study Group so that you’ll have friends you can bounce off of as well.
      Happy New Year!

  8. Sonja says:

In GGBG lesson 2, the protocol for LycoArs gives a low potency for Ars. My question, is, if there is only mild burning in the throat, besides bloating ect…. but the mental symptoms almost all fit for the ArsAlb, then, can one us a 200 potency for the ArsAlb, instead of the lower one? would this be better due to the higher mental symptoms match?

  9. Sonja says:

Regarding the gateway 1 study group. will there be different subjects taught? other than what is thought in GGBG? I find I still have too many question regarding the GGBG course, but there is no place to ask……and, I want to study more subjects, but I can no longer take any other courses due to money restraints. the Canadian $’s low exchange rate is not helping and makes things very difficult. One more question, will you ever publish any books about your courses? so more and more people could afford to buy these, and can help themselves?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      1) Set up a fake Facebook account if you’re concerned and notify my office. Then you’ll have anonymity and ability to meet with others from the group.

      4) GW1 is a way to meet others who have taken many of the other courses including GGBG
      5) Take the GGBG Course a few more times and it’s likely your questions will be answered.
      6) Study my Blogs, Podcasts, Facebook Live events and you’ll get years of study for free…without monetization.
