I’m sick.
Lest you think homeopaths don’t get ill … here’s proof that we do. I’m writing this on my laptop from bed, with a cup of bone stock on my bedside table.
You read that right — I. Am. Sick.
I feel pretty lonely, too (my husband is out of town for the day), but thank goodness for Buster, the bad office dog.
He hasn’t left my side.
This doesn’t feel like a garden variety cold.
I’m super weak, my back is achy and my lungs feel like this is going to be a doozy of an illness. Everyone around me has gotten bronchitis; one family member got pneumonia, and it feels like it’s all stacking up against me to get me really down.
But I’m prepared.
This is what has gone through my head:
No wheezing nor breathing trouble, so I won’t consider Kali iod 6.
No breathlessness or cough that’s gagging or nagging, so no Ipecac 30.
No stuffed-up nose or the feeling of an infection in the sinuses, so I won’t go to Sanguinaria 200.
And it’s not deep enough to consider Kali carb, since it’s not bronchitis or pneumonia.
Having said this, Kali carb is a great remedy to support the lungs in general. It's one of the best for asthma, emphysema and pneumonia but I’m not going there yet, since the aches and weakness are more prominent.
I could take Influenzinum, but so far, the remedies I’m considering have helped many around me, so I’ll forgo that idea for a while.
I could use Oscillococcinum®, which helps thousands of people every year (including my family members) but never helps me, so although I might suggest it for others, I’ll pass.
I might also consider Gelsemium 30 or 200 if the fatigue doesn’t back off. It’s what the homeopaths used during the great flu pandemic of 1918 and saved tens of thousands of lives, while the allopaths saw a large percentage of their patients die.
But again, I’m prepared.
I have my remedy kits, my notes, book, homemade bone stock and my poodle.
So this is what I’ve done so far:
About three hours ago when this came on, I took Aconitum 200 and Bryonia 200 because it’s a good place to start for coughs and illnesses like this, especially when it comes on suddenly. It was the remedy that helped my sons with their recent coughs, so I put more credence into this choice.
I put the pills of one into my mouth and the pills of the other to mix them. The mixing of these two particular remedies is a protocol that Drs. Banerji taught me for colds and coughs. (Although, they have it pre-mixed in their pharmacy.) About an hour later, I took Hepar sulph 200. I plan to alternate between these medicines every few hours or so into the night.
Hepar sulph is my all-time favorite for coughs and although I haven't developed one as of yet, I took it because I feel rumblings in my lungs and it’s what I call the homeopathic antibiotic for coughs and sore throats. (I hate saying that because homeopathy is often superior to antibiotics, but you know what I mean.)
Even though I have an idea where this may be headed, given those around me and the calls our office has been receiving, I’m going to remain conservative and stay focused on the symptoms that are currently presenting.
If this doesn’t do enough good in the next 24 hours and my back is still achy, I might just go with Rhus tox 30 or Nux vomica 30 or 200.
Am I rambling? I think it's ‘cause my brain feels fatigued, too.
But I want you to get an idea of how to tease out what’s most important when trying to decide on a remedy choice, particularly when you’re the one with the illness.
This will also be a good opportunity for everyone to see how I fare during this upcoming week.
Next week’s blog will reveal what happened to me while recuperating. (Read it here.)
I’m not going to write anymore because I’m going to sleep now.
I hope you don’t get what I’ve got by reading this.
Wait. That’s not how germs are spread, right?
(See what I mean about my brain? I really DO need to rest!)
Warmly,
Joette
P.S. I’m going this alone because I have my systems in place. But you, dear reader, ought to have a friend or homeopathy study group mate whom you can bounce this off of. Consider starting with one in your neck of the woods.
I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

I appreciate what you are teaching with this blog. It is very effective for me to read and “hear you thinking” like a homeopath would/does.
I am glad to hear that thought about hepar. Coughs come and hang around in my grandchildren and I will love to share this with my daughter. She has been going the rounds of one remedy and another.
thank you for the lesson.
I will include you and all suffering with illness in my prayers! I hope it doesn’t carry on too long.
Meredith
Thanks for the great info. You need to write a reference//treatment book.
Feel better.
Hugs
I write courses based on specific conditions such as the gut or survivalism methods and then books that accompany them.
Hi joette what is your protocol for lingering cough for two weeks following the flu? Dry cough with little mucus, worse with eating, drinking, etc. along with post nasal drip?
I’m actually feeling pretty well this AM. So far, so good. Thanks for your encouragement.
We too are experiencing the ever-lingering bronchitis and sinus infection! Sanguinaria was a life saver last time this struck our household (me!). This information has been so helpful. Feel better soon!
Thanks, Lea.
Always reading your blogs.as usual very educative. Sorry to read that you are not well..will keep you in my prayers.
Elaine.
Thanks Elaine.
Hi joette hope you feel better!!! As for the Kali carb for asthma would you suggest 200 2xday. And could you use it In an acute also?
I have seasonal asthma in Florida and have tried Nat sulph 6x, Kali iod 6c arsenicum 6 and 200 etc and nothing is touching it.
I have used Kali carb as a remedy to help uproot asthma not for an acute, but long term, and generally use it only once weekly. I know I need to write about asthma on this blog soon.
You would use a 200 or higher once a week??
200 of which remedy?
ThanK you for sharing this . I just happen to have the flu too!
Late last night, I switched to Influenzinum 30 and it worked like a charm. You might give it a try.
Get well soon, Joette! Thanks for sharing your insights with us, even when your brain isn’t operating at 100%. God bless you this week as you recover! Ugh! No fun being sick!!!
Thanks Melissa. And GOod bless you and yours.
I hope you get better soon Joette -I’ll be saying prayers for you. thank you for showing us how you figure out what remedies to try. Jeanette
Thanks for your encouraging words, Jeanette.
Hi Joette, hope your feeling better love reading your info on homeopathic remedies, keep up the great work u are very inspiring, thanks, Corinne, Canada
Thanks for sharing this, Joette. Praying that you recover quickly.
Oh Joette, I have learned so much from your classes and your blog…so please get better soon! Just so you know…I referenced the ITSAN.org site for RSS. I have the dreadful condition currently, but if you hadn’t posted that site, who knows where I would be right now. You really have had and will continue to have an impact on generations to come! Prayers for a swift recovery for both of us!
Isn’t’ that site great? Pls spread the word. Folks need to know the seriousness of these drugs. I’m actually feeling pretty well today. Many thanks for your thoughts and prayers. My best to you and yours.
Wish I would have read this yesterday! My 8 year old had something like the flu (never tested) and a hacking cough for 11 days with a fever that going up every afternoon and an infection in her left lung. We tried many remedies, but never kicked it (and never tried hep sulf…sigh), and her O2 saturation went down to 92% so felt that we had to do the antibiotic. We just started a 10 day course yesterday:( Wonder if we should still try some remedies as I want her to really clear the infection not just mask it? Thoughts?
I feel 100% improved with Influenzinum 30 that I started shortly after writing this post and have continued to take it every 5-6 hours. But for lung infections, read how I thought through the remedies, especially in relationship to bronchitis/pneumonia.
I just read this now on Monday afternoon, and I’m so glad you are doing better! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us even when you aren’t feeling well. We haven’t gotten any sicknesses yet this winter, but with all your good information I feel I am at least prepared a little. Take care and God bless you.
How lovely of you. Many thanks for your encouragement.
Well, Joette, I spoke too soon about not having any illnesses yet this winter. Last night the fever, chills, aching, headache, sore throat came on very quickly. I took Aconitum 30c through the night, and now have tried Oscillococcinum. I don’t know if I chose correctly, but it seems to be better than last evening. Hope you are still doing well!
The way that you know the remedy is correct (at least for the time being) is when it takes action. If it stops acting, its time to stop using it and move on.
Thank you for this information and glad you are feeling better. This has been a bad year for illness for everyone it seems. I just ordered the Influenzinum nosode to have it, (just in case). I am also getting my vitamin D levels checked, (waiting for the results). My friend used the Bryonia/Aconite protocol and it really helped her daughter fight off bronchitis, (without needing antibiotics). Love your work. Thanks again!!
Thanks for your words of encouragement. She who has the most remedies in her kit, wins! Own as many as you can afford.
Hi Joette,
I started with a sore throat this past Tuesday evening. For some reason I did not treat myself. I must have thought it wouldn’t get bad since I have been using homeopathy for 3 yrs and have been so much healthier. But lo and behold by the time I read your blog last night I had bronchitis. No symptoms up top, just the lungs with sore throat. And a strange little symptom of watering eyes when I was lying down. Anyway last night after being reminded I went and got out my Aconite/Bryonia 200 and took a dose last night and this morning and I am already feeling alot better. It probably would have been nipped if I had taken it sooner but alas…so very thankful for your support. Every week I wait expectantly for your new info.
Hi Joette, I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for listing the remedies that have helped you through this illness (and even those that have not!) My daughter came home from school at end of last week with a low grade fever. By night time, she had 102.5. I gave her a couple of doses of Arsenicum Album 30C and when she awoke the next morning her temperature was back to normal. She also needed Hepar Sulph for the bronchial cough that followed. After several doses of Hepar Sulph her cough improved considerably. I have learned that patience is needed with the remedies to give them a chance to fully work.
Hi Martha what potency of hepar sulph and how many doses?
I also did a 30C potency with Hepar Sulph for her cough. Initially, I dosed my daughter every 3-4 hours and then scaled back to every 6 hours. I stopped a day too soon and the bronchial cough came back. I re-instated the Hepar Sulph 30C the next day (two more doses approx. 6 hours apart) and it resolved the coughing issue for good. I think the number of doses needed is very “person specific.” Just my personal observation/opinion.
Thank you so much!
‘Nice job. But instead of person specific, think of it as condition specific. If pain, cough, itch, whatever the condition might be, is calmed down by the remedy, then watch for when it is needed again to find the tipping point, as an indication of when to repeat. Having said this, the protocol usually incorporates this nicely.
How amazing is the timing of things sometimes. The night after you posted, my husband woke me up at 3 AM saying , “I have a sore throat and a cold, what can you give me?”
Aconite 200/Bryonia 200 was at the top of my brain due to this post. So he got a dose and I went to sleep.
On awakening at 6 AM, he said, “what did you give me? my sore throat is gone!”
We needed to repeat that remedy later in the day and twice the next day.
Tuesday he started a little cough, which got progressively, rapidly worse. I gave Hepar 6 first and it didnt seem strong enough. I gave him Hepar 30 twice and he was showing improvements. But in the night, again, it would wake him up and it sounded congestive although it stayed in his pharyngeal area.
I gave him the Hepar 200. That knocked it out right in front of our eyes. everything calmed down within minutes. he began to feel better overall. Later he went golfing.
thank you for the help Joette. Glad to hear you are also feeling better.
Wow thank you Meredith! You are absolutely right! Timing sometimes is everything! What a blessing I think I have the answer I was looking for , from you and martha?
Hi Joette, I read this post with a lot of interest. I was wondering why didn’t you take a single remedy instead of mixing so many. In my experience, the right remedy in the right potency works like a magic.
In my recent flu episode, my symptoms called for Ars Alb, a single dose of 200c had me feeling great within minutes! I repeated a dose on the 3rd day and that was it. I have read a little bit about Banerjea protocols, in your experience does it work 100% of the time thus taking uncertainty out of repertorization?
In about 80% of the population suffering with a particular condition, their protocol acts. 80% is compelling enough for me, particularly given my decades of using classical. Its great that you found Arsenicum to work so well and I’ve certainly enjoyed the same results, using one rem but the point of this blog is to teach that classical is not the only way. And is often the slower and more esoteric method.
Hello…this is a general question about the remedies..can we take the remedies in water?..lets say that you have 25 ml and puts 5 pills and take 1 tsp everytime you take a dose…in that way the remedies will last about 25 days for 25 ml water. Does it work also in the banerji protocol as in classic?
I use the aqueous method only when its not as important to be certain the person gets every dose or if I’m about to run out of a remedy. However, there are times when using this method is best administered in this fashion, and it ought to be adhered to as closely as possible, but in general, I urge folks to follow directions on the bottle. Particularly given the cost of homeopathic medicines being so inexpensive, if its important to get the medicine, its importantto get it right.
Joette, thanks again for all you do to empower mommas to be the healers in their families. I am curious if you recommend replacing the influenzinum nosode every year or two as the prevalent strains of flu change?
Also, I am battling oncoming flu, I think. Have had 2-3 weeks of intermittent dry hacking cough mostly at night. But, today, something has changed. I can relate to your description of the feeling in your lungs. And the aches and fever arrived. I’ve been doing the aco/byro 200c BP. And have added influenzinum 30 since the aches fever and change in lungs began. If this were you, would you just alternate between the 2 protocols?
Thanks!
Amy
Could I give my daughter this years Influenzinum 200? I don’t have 30c. I have started off with Aconite 30 and she is showing improvement. Will add Hep Sulph 30 for deep chest cough. Should I add the Influenzinum 200 or is it too high a dose? Thanks!!
I love how this particular post is written. It really helped me with flu this year. I started with Aconite200 + Bryonia 200, was working pretty well, but then I did get the gagging cough, and just kept feeling the need to clear my throat, so I used Epicac 30 and WOW did that work! I did need the Kali Iod 6 for some wheezing, and that worked beautifully too. Finally I did try the Gelsemium for all the weakness and overall flu feeling and I’m happy to say now, 24 hours later feel that I’m no longer sick.
It’s not always this easy but my symptoms lined up so perfectly with the post.
Thanks so much!
