Get Rid of the Goofy Gatorade

My son Peter spends his summers working in the landscaping business.  Dehydration is a threat when the mercury spikes into the 80’s.

Gatorade is loaded with questionable ingredients like dyes and artificial flavors and plain old water just isn’t enough to prevent electrolyte loss.

But I've taught Peter well.

Every morning, he mixes up a gallon jug, tailor-made for a long day of sweaty outdoor work.

The electrolytes in this refreshing drink protect his body’s sodium balance while the homeopathic cell salts support potassium and his general vital force.

Try  this electrolyte drink that’s easy to  whip up before a long day of summer exertion.

Peter’s Homeopathic Electrolyte Concoction

•16 pills of Bioplasma (from your health food store)

•16 pills of Nat sulph 6x (from your health food store)

•¼ cup acidophilus bifidus yogurt or kefir

•1/4-1/2 cup fresh lemon or lime juice

•Maple syrup or raw honey, to taste (not too sweet)

•1 teaspoon Celtic salt

•½ cup coconut milk (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a gallon container and fill to the top with ice water.  Shake well.

Mildly sour, with a hint of sweetness.  Remember to shake before each drink.

With homeopathy and smart nutrition, you can say “Bring on the heat!”

    I asked questions before when Peter’s recipe was previously posted but never saw a response.

    I’m still curious about combining the salts with the food since instructions are often given to separate remedies, or salts, from taking food…15 minutes…30 minutes…maybe more. (Unless countering something consumed which acts disagreeably in or on the body.)

    And another question that comes to mind concerns adding the extra nat sulph since it is already contained in the bioplasma and since what I’ve read (or listened to) indicates that whether taking 3-4-5 or taking 100 at a time, it’s all considered one dose.

    I’m curious, too, about how the numbers were determined.

    Also, since recipe substitutions call for adding lemon juice (or vinegar) to milk if buttermilk is not available, I’m curious about what it does to this mix. Seems the yogurt would curdle, maybe the coconut milk, as well.

    As I’m reading this, another thought comes to mind since I’ve been doing some research on agave (which I understand is not all the same due to production differences, and which refutes what is presented on the WAPF website). Agave is said to have a much lower glycemic index than either pure maple syrup or honey which may be an important consideration for some. Then, too, there’s stevia which has it’s own health benefits and is used alone or perhaps in combination with another sweetener to achieve a nice balance. My experience with stevia is that the various products are definitely not all the same. And when one finds a good one, by not adding too much, an acceptable, even pleasant, taste and sweetness is achievable.

    Well…still much I must understand about it all. And I realize one can’t believe everything one sees, reads or hears, so I guess I’ll keep doing what I’m doing and continuing my little experiments to see how they turn out.

    1. Through the years, I have found that remedies work regardless of how close they are to food. I believe the reason they ought to be kept away from foods is to protect from certain foods that might cause antidoting and to name them all on the back of a bottle would be cumbersome. Nothing in this drink has that inherent potential. Certainly, when using a remedy in a higher potency, such as 30 or 200, the amount of times the remedy ought to be taken is more finite. In other words, it needs to be limited to the time it takes to initiate a reaction. When using cell salts, they can comfortably be taken every few hours for days. This would be unadvisable with higher potencies.
      The study of potency, (Posology) is a fascinating subject and there are many opinions regarding this subject. I have found through experimentation that the extra measure of a specifically required cell salt makes a difference. Perhaps its because Bioplasma is a combination so that the depth and breadth of each cell salt is not fully appreciated. In any case, an extra measure doesn’t hurt and cell salts are inexpensive.
      In homeopathy, the number of pills is not very important, so I ball-park 1 pill for every few ounces. It has worked every time, so I’ve stayed with it.
      With this recipe there is no curdling because so little of the acidic substance is added to a large amount of water.
      I don’t care for the taste of stevia and so far am not convinced of its value. I am, however enamored with raw honey in judicial amounts. For those with glycemic concerns, the sweetener can be eliminated. However, for a teenage boy working in hot, physically demanding conditions, I believe honey is a good choice. Having said this, the best part of making your own electrolyte drink is that you can adjust accordingly.

    Why should you put coconut oil on before heading into the sun?

    And my answer is that coconut oil is great for the skin not only because of its tremendous moisturizing effects, but also because it fights free radical damage.     Thanks Joette…just in time as it has hit 100 degrees here in Texas (where last year getting DOWN to 100 degrees was a relief!). My boys still have to go out and work in the heat on our farm, no matter the weather.

    A side question about this particular combo of Bioplasma & cell salts…I am always questioning when a remedy works on people if it will work on animals too. Our chickens really suffer in this heat…do you think these remedies would work with animals…we just put it in their drinking water. If so, do I assume correctly that this could safely be put in their drinking water every day that it is hot?

    1. Yes, cell salts work wonderfully for animals. I’ve found the easiest way to get them to take the remedies is by putting it in their water as you’ve suggested. Another great cell salt for preventing heat exhaustion is Nat Phos 6x.

    I have found that putting cell salts in water bottles for my family is a great way to ensure that they are getting the cell salts they need throughout the day.

    Also, as far as adding lemon to yogurt in this concoction – I have not experienced any curdling.

    With a very tempermental teenage son, I always started his day by adding a needed remedy for his ‘moods’ with his morning glass of water and the results? Life was good!

    We just experienced first hand how effective and important this drink is when sweating and working in the heat. My son works in a small private chicken processing facility (pastured chickens only). His job is in the hot room with the scalders (for those unfamiliar, this takes off the feathers). We didn’t have time yesterday morning to fix this electrolyte drink (which we’ve been doing lately), so he just took water with him. By last night, he was complaining of his hands feeling stiff and had difficulty bending his fingers. My husband has similar issues and Mag Phos always works for him. We gave my son a Magnesium supplement, as well as Mag Phos 6x in hot water. This morning, his hands were somewhat better, but he also started complaining that he was cold. Mind you, we are in Texas, and our house is anything but cold. I knew he still needed the nutrients in this drink, so I mixed it up and throughout the course of the day, he drank 1/2 gallon of it. Within a few hours, and before he had consumed the whole 1/2 gallon, he commented that he wasn’t cold anymore and that his fingers didn’t hurt at all! I also had him take a nap. Overall, by tonight he was feeling himself again. We have learned a valuable lesson…we’ll find time to fix this drink!

    Joette – how far in advance can you mix this up? It would sure be easier to fix this the night before and have it on hand for the following day’s activities.

    i’d like to pass on your electrolyte recipe to friends who work in a hot assembly type job..i see ice is added, but does it need refrigeration for the rest of the day? they really don’t have a place to keep it cold for 8-10 hrs a day. on some days it can be 90-100 degrees! thanks

    In response to the athlete’s foot or any body fungus, I’ve read quite a bit about coconut oil being a powerful anti-fungal remedy (taken internally and used externally on the skin); even more potent would be a dynamite mixture we use directly on the skin for any infections (and fungus): puree 6 (I’m writing these ratios from memory) cloves of garlic and about 1/2 c. coconut oil. You can add some olive oil to get the right consistency. Keep it refrigerated. It did wonders for our 2 yr. old’s ear infection…we rubbed it around her ears, on her chest and back, and on the bottom of her feet 3-4 times/day. Sorry this is a bit off-subject…
