Thyroid and Homeopathic Iodine

Margaret was uncommonly dazzling, charismatic and constitutionally unfit for frumpy clothes. Nothing she wore matched exactly, yet it all worked together quite nicely because it was draped on her body with her patrician sensibilities.

She summered at Martha's Vineyard, her long tan legs attracting onlookers. . . mostly men, but women, too. I can't say in public what the men would think but I'm sure Margaret knew. It gave her permission to flounce her hair incautiously. The result was a kind of male chaos that fell in her wake. She was the sort of woman who reveled in her ever-changing relationships, amending them simply because the challenge was entertaining.

But then, one weekend after a friend's opening in Soho, something snapped. Instead of her usual deftness in her daily routine, she began to experience weariness. It moderated her usual steady vitality with a chronic longing for naps. Before long, she also recognized that her easy confidence and flippant air had dwindled and was being replaced by a diminished, subdued version of her old self. And she began to lose more hair than she cared to think about.

At first, her symptoms were mild, but by the time she entered the doctor's office, she was agitated and alarmed. “It feels like I have a chronic touch of the flu, and worse, I've put on twenty pounds.” The latter symptom troubled her the most.

The doctor considered hypothyroidism and subsequent tests indicated Margaret's TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was indeed elevated, so he advised a medication. This wouldn't cure her, of course, but it would manage the problem.

Margaret began to question the decision to follow through since the side effects were written in the drug pack she was handed, albeit in print so small she literally needed a magnifying glass to make out the words. But, it was indeed as clear as day…anxiety, mood swings, hair loss, weight gain, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, seizures. She already had suffered some of these symptoms and the drug only promised more!

Next Margaret visited a psychiatrist, because of the angst she was experiencing. He too proposed drugs. “No thanks,” she thought. She could have submitted without a struggle and simply taken the prescriptions, but that wasn't Margaret's style. In fact, even her best friend asked her, “What's wrong with taking medicine?” “No,” Margaret insisted, “I must find a bona fide solution.”

And so Margaret wore her hair in a sweeping fashion that concealed the loss that honestly only she noticed. She was driven by her innate tenacity to unearth an alternative solution. A colleague who had been relieved of thyroid nodules with a special homeopathic preparation suggested the name of her reputable homeopath.

So, Margaret scheduled a phone consultation because the homeopath lived two states away.

After this initial consultation, Margaret was comforted. She was not told her hypothyroid condition would be cured, but the homeopath put it in a different way. “Your body is responding to an imbalance which causes symptoms. We will use the symptoms to determine which homeopathic remedy is best suited to antidote or address your specific imbalance. Once the energy of the illness is met by the energy of the remedy, it will be unnecessary for the body to react. Instead, the reactions to the disease or symptoms will be antidoted.”

Margaret was inspired by the word “antidote” and within a week from taking the remedy Iodum, her fatigue began to fade. “Is this iodine?” she asked the homeopath. The answer she received was fascinating. The homeopath explained that we know that iodine is key to thyroid health, but to use it in gross form can sometimes be imprudent. Instead, in homeopathic formula, which is greatly diluted according to a specific mathematical procedure, any problems relating to iodine are eliminated, leaving only beneficial results. Since homeopathy is a medical paradigm used the world over, including European hospitals and clinics, and by homeopathic MDs, we have plenty of research to conclude that this method not only has merit, but is safe.

Margaret didn't really care about the studies; her focus was on how well she began to feel. First she noticed that there was no longer a tangled mass on her hair brush. Then, her zeal returned. This happened within the first month of taking the homeopathic preparation. However, the most remarkable restoration was when she observed the pounds slowly melting and the fatigue eliminated.

Symptom by symptom, the disease seemed to dissolve. It was so natural and not unlike the way she felt before being struck with hypothyroid disease. Months later, her thyroid hormone was again measured and the proof was revealed. Her levels were indeed within the range of normal! It was about this time that, while at the theatre, she inadvertently ran into Alphonso, a handsome Italian friend from back in grad school. He squeezed her hand and whispered, “Sprezzatura!”

When she got home that night, she paged through her Italian dictionary and was delighted to discover that the beautiful word means “the art of nonchalance in effortless elegance.” Ahhh … the confirmation that her life was back.

Homeopathic Remedies for Thyroid Problems

The link between iodine and the thyroid gland is well established; therefore, it is no surprise that homeopathic iodine has been used homeopathically for many decades. In its original state, elemental iodine can actually cause thyroid pathology. This is why in the much diluted methods of homeopathic preparation it can instead rouse the body to address the very problem it can sometimes cause. This capacity reveals the very essence of homeopathy, which is ruled by the law “like cures like.”

In the case of Margaret's sufferings, this remedy was chosen because it suited not only her specific symptoms, but her personality as well. What caught the homeopath's attention, in this case, was her uncharacteristic weight gain and subdued behavior that was so unlike her when in health. Since the need for Iodum is characterized by these features, it proved to be just the right fit for Margaret.

However, Margaret had a colleague for whom the remedy choice was quite different. A common remedy for thyroid nodules, whether accompanied by hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, is Sepia. But again, the choice of Sepia depends on the entirety of the person suffering the problem. Margaret's colleague had just had a baby when she developed her thyroid issues. This put her in a reproductive state that would need to be considered for the totality of symptoms to match. For example, she too experienced weight gain, but it was accompanied by mood swings and sleeplessness. Since Margaret's hormones were not those of a new mother, Sepia would have been unsuitable for her.

A man suffering from hypo- or hyperthyroidism would indeed be subject to the same differentiating criteria, but the hallmark of his sufferings might include chronic perspiration of the head, easy weight gain that was particularly flabby and an overall sluggish disposition. There might also be anxiety and an overwhelmed sensation from his many responsibilities. This would point squarely in the direction of Calcarea carbonica, a homeopathic remedy most noted for these symptoms. Thus homeopathy is person-specific, not disease-specific and anything less would be a mediocre, polyester, one-size-fits-all choice. In the quest for authentic health, this will never do.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  1. Hello Joette,
well I am finally contacting you, I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long.
I had my 1st child 6 years ago and I noticed I never lost 1 lb after bf for over 6 years! My diet was a 80/20. Raw milk, pasture eggs and meats (mostly), organic veggies, mineral water, no soda,no smoking, no prescription drugs and not a lot of exercise. I had blood work done and I did a saliva test for my hormones. My homeopath said my thyroid was good but my DHEA was very low (a spray was perscribed) and my adrenals were slightly stressed. She put me on on afew diff. Things but I never saw that my hair stopped falling out. My hair loss got so bad that it was starting to effect my emotional well being. I thought wel when I stop bf my hair will stop falling out, nope. I then had a surprise pregnancy 5 years later and my hair not only stopped falling out, it started growing thick and beautiful again, I was a new woman! Fast forward 9 m + 6 months and my hair is back to being just as thin. So frustrating. I read Homeopathy and Thyroid and homeopathic iodine. I also read the part about Sepia which sounds more like what I may need, just not sure. Having babies did something to my body. AND I b have yet to loose the 1st 30 lbs from 1st baby AND the 35 lbs from 2nd baby and I wasnt thin to begin with HOWEVER I had a nice waist line etc. Id love to schedule a consult with you.

Thank you in advance for your time.
    Kind Regards,
    jennifer Trujillo

  2. Holly says:

    Hello Joette,

I have a thyroid nodule like you mentioned at the end, referencing Sepia. It’s about 1 cm, and I’ve had it since my first baby was 2 years or so (this has been 2
years now). I didn’t know it was there or not before then. Doctor isn’t concerned- they’ve done an ultrasound and it looks fine. I’d just rather have it resolve naturally.

No other symptoms that I’m concerned about, just a random nodule. Stress, of course, but I have lots of kids. Lack of sleep, but due to babies!

Can you give an idea on the dose and duration of Sepia if it may be an appropriate remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m sorry, but without taking your case, I couldn’t offer specific information. Having said this, mothers with many children are often quite benefited by using Sepia 200, twice weekly, particularly if there is a thyroid condition.

AS with all chronic conditions, the remedy is usually taken for about 2 months and halted after the condition is resolved.

  3. Stephen says:

    Hi Joette,
Waiting to get my bloodworm back on my thyroid. Does the Banerji Protocol of Bromium 6 mixed with Lycopodium 200 work for all cases of Low thyroid? Does it trump recommendations above? Am I correct that the Bromium is 6C and Lyco is 200C? Thanks 😉

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would not be comfortable suggesting that that or any protocol would act in all cases. The beauty of these protocols is that they act in about 80% of the cases and if they don’t, we still have classical homeopathy on which to fall back.

  4. Paula says:

I just read the same thing on the official Banerji website as Stephen wrote. The above case recommends Iodum for hypothyroidism but that was recommended for hyperthyroidism on the Banerji protocol. I want to develop a sense of courage in using homeopathy. It is VERY expensive around here and hard to get into be seen so learning this for one’s self is important if it is to be really useful. Please advise.

I directly read Bromium 6C 2 pellets morning and night and for up to 4 months with monthly monitoring, that may not have been on that same site but someone else citing their protocol. But no mention of Thyroidinum 200.
So the Thyroidinum200 would be the same? Twice a day or every other day?
A friend who is taking your course made me aware of you.

Thank you for your help, help is very hard to find,
    Paula

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Bromium and Thyroidinum are 2 different remedies and protocols. These protocols are not fixed. This means that for some Bromium is a good choice, while for others, Thyroidinum is better.

  5. Sandy says:

Would we need to read the material medica to find out which cases are better with Bromium and which are better with thyroidinum? Or do you mention the differences elsewhere?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I usually start with Bromium as a 1st level and if there’s no change over many months, I consider others.

  6. Sandy says:

So as for the timing aspect of a protocol, if say in the four weeks there was a positive change, followed by no change or a worsening, how long do we need to ride the no change or worsening before we know its time to move on?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I wish I could give you a simple answer but without taking the full case, it would be difficult. healing is not usually linear. So if there is a net gain and improvement has lapsed for a while, I’d consider staying with it.

  7. Shafina says:

I have excessive hair fall,, mood swing, infertility problem, irregular period , fyboriod in breast
    Which homeopathy will suites

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re asking me to take your case, which I don’t do on this forum.

  8. Mary Herman says:

For over 30 years I have used homeopathy for acute conditions but never for chronic ones. I’m wanting to try homeopathy for my Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. The dr says if you’re on thyroid meds you will be on them for life…. I just can’t except that. Do you have to taper off meds when trying a homeopathic protocol? I sure lean towards Sepia, but I’m a great grandma…no kids at home.

  9. Mary Herman says:

Oh Joette, here I am again…I had decided to take Thyroidinum 200 for my Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, but then I got to thinking I have the bad gut protocol Lycopodium 200/Arsenicum Alb 6 that I already take…….Above Lycopodium 200/Bromium 6 is mentioned for hypothyroidism… since they both use Lycopodium should I just add Bromium and call it done??? Hope I didn’t confuse you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I usually like to use a medicine only once even if there’s more than one indication. It’s like killing 2 birds with one stone.

      1. Mary Herman says:

Well I know what the two birds are, I’m assuming the stone would be Lycopodium??? I’ve often been known to assume wrong though. Thanks for getting back to me, my kids and grandkids, great grandkids all take homeopathic medicine and very impressed with it but no one likes to talk about it. Love your blog and comments to questions asked!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, Lyco. Keep up the good work.

      2. Sarah Page says:

What would you recommend for Hashimotos?

  10. Mary Herman says:

Lyco, got it! Wow your day starts early! Pain drove me out of bed…grabbed the Cuprum Ars…told my husband I’m so thankful for homeopathy….and Joette….thank you.

  11. Mary Herman says:

Whoops, I’m back with a delayed thought about Thyroidinum vs Lycopodium, the reason I had chose the Thyroidinum for my hypothyroidism was that Borkie listed rheumatoid arthritis My hands are disfigured from RA, so I was leaning towards the Thyroidinum 200. But swung back the other direction

  12. Samantha Francis says:

I have been diagnosed with a 3.7 cm benign thyroid colloid nodule. Blood work shows mildly hyperthyroid. What would you recommend? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t recommend remedies for specific cases on this forum. Should you be interested in meeting with me, feel free to contact my office.

  13. Bea says:

Hi Joette! Can you say what is the thyroidinum dosage and frequency in the article you used?

  14. Julie Swain says:

Which dosage and frequency would you recommend for the Iodum? Thank you.

  15. Trish says:

I have the banerji protocol book and it states the first line for hypothyroidism is Bromium 6c two doses daily and Lycopodium 30C in liquid two does daily. But online I’m always reading Lyco 200c. Which is best?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

THere’s more than one way to skin a cat. In order to differentiate, we often use other conditions to help us determine potency when there’s a discrepancy.

  16. Emily says:

Is there any general guideline for which remedies and protocols are safe for women who are trying to conceive? Or who are pregnant? It seems that when pregnancy is established it may best to switch to pregnancy support protocol, but I’m particularly concerned about that early time before knowing conception has occurred. Or in the case of the thyroid which is so important to pregnancy, would some protocols be continued in some cases?

I want to dive in and take a course(s) or even try to schedule a consult to address food sensitivities and mildly low thyroid (likely Hashimoto’s). But I’m also limited on extra funds and hope to conceive as soon as my body is ready. I’m unclear about the best direction to start in, and I’m a bit afraid to try to put any of the amazing free information to use – mainly because of the conception question and my inexperience.

I know that you can’t take my case on this forum, and I deeply appreciate any general guidance that you can offer! Many thanks for your time!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, it’s best to use remedies that are specific to pregnancy once it’s established.

There are indeed some homeopathic remedies that ought not to be used during pregnancy.

And to answer your last question we use homeopathic medicines specific to the condition and if the condition continues throughout pregnancy it must be continued.

  17. Khan says:

    Hello,

I am a 42 years old male and was diagnosed with hashimoto disease few year ago. I might have it from long time, but it went unnoticed.

I have taken iodine supplements which had helped me to cure my thyroid nodule. Level of my T3 and T4 is also normal, however, I still have anti bodies attacking my thyroid. Moreover, I also have sweaty hands and feet’s and occasionally feels tired and have anxiety from time to time. Since you have mentioned Calcarea carbonica. Can you please advise how can I take this (dose and supplement name)?

    Thanks,

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I”m sorry but I can’t offer personal advice on this forum.

  18. April says:

Hi Joette- Would the Banerji protocol for hypothyroid be the same for the autoimmune hashimotos? Because while the thyroid is obviously under functioning, the immune system is the biggest issue. So wouldn’t that protocol help the thyroid temporarily but once you stopped- wouldn’t the immune system just damage it all over again? I don’t see anything in Banerjis protocol that deals specifically with autoimmunity, so I’m wondering if maybe treating the thyroid itself will fix the immune system dysfunction that’s related in homeopathy- And the same principal for any autoimmune illness. thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The term autoimmune is throwing off your thinking. It’s not really a diagnosis, but an explanation. Once you get into the realm of explanations your footing in using this type of homeopathy is lost.
Allergies are autoimmune. RA is autoimmune. IBD is autoimmune. If I looked at them as autoimmune diseases I’d have to throw in the towel.

  19. Jamie Barrera says:

Please help. I am 43, my Mother died when I was 40. I started to have premenopausal symptoms, but not a lot. I do however notice a huge spike in my weight. My periods are different, very dark with clots and lasting a little longer then the next month back to normal. My skin is breaking out as well. I have a friend that strongly suggested you and told me to ask as many questions as possible. I do have sickle cell trait. I noticed I am just not the same. I try to talk to my twin sister and even my husband, but that is not a good idea. My twin and I are not sure what is happening to our bodies. I really want to go completely natural for me and my children. After having a device in my heart, a atrial septic closure device. I want to get my hormones normal and also make sure my thyroid is ok. My Mother had Hypothyroidism and my Aunts have hyperthyroidism. Sorry I am all over the place, but is there any advice you can give. Any products you can suggest? Thank you

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m sorry but I don’t offer personal advice on this forum.

  20. Amy says:

Is the following safe to use for someone whose TSH levels tested high: Bromium 6C twice daily and Thuja occidentalis 30C, twice daily. Banerji Protocol says it is for thyroid nodules.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t declare what would be safe or not without taking a full case.

  21. Karen says:

I saw a Classical Homeopath years ago for massive anxiety/panic attacks/nightmares/sleeplessness and after 5 constitutional remedies and LOTS of money, none worked. I gave up. Fast forward a few more years, symptoms have increased to debilitating and more issues have arisen (perimenopause and excessive weight gain in short time). Two years ago, heart issues and was hospitalized but I did not even take an aspirin, I refused and the experience of being there was worse than the cause, excessive stress, a year ago a thyroid nodule was discovered after symptoms of coughing, hard to swallow, out of breath, I knew something was wrong. I succumbed to the most excruciating thyroid biopsy (I seriously would have rather gone through labor again). Through all of this, I kept plugging and using homeopathy with my NMD. But with no particular diagnosis, no solutions have been found. Fast forward a few more years to finding you….I read blogs, and this year am out of solutions….so now in a few short months I have completed Gateway I, Gateway II, working on Mindful and bought Survivalist and Kids! I am still searching and trying not to “theorize” but what else is there to do when NO ONE has made a clear-cut diagnosis? I will NOT succumb to drugs and I have not, but truly this is maddening. I am not sure if I should keep spending my money on the courses or the consultation? I know there is plenty of information for me to keep on trying with homeopathy, but I guess I am losing hope and confidence.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Based on the little that you’ve reported here, it sounds like one diagnosis is clear: nodules on the thyroid. That is where I’d start. However, I teach that if you can’t complete or even start one on your own, it makes sense to work with an experienced homeopath.

  22. Karen says:

Yes, Joette I am starting to think I cannot resolve it on my own. For the thyroid nodule (which was discovered via ultrasound 7/2019 and biopsy was 8/2019, which was benign), but because of the large size, 1 mm short of the the most serious category, I treated it with a homeopathically prepared liquid called Unda 2 and Unda 16 per my NMD. We did another ultrasound 12/2019 and it did shrink just a little. But with the homeopathic solutions taken 10 drops each both in A.M. and P.M, for about 6 months, the symptoms reduced greatly, so I use it as needed now. I still get hoarse once in awhile and feel like my throat is blocked, but nothing like the “10” it was for a year prior. My NMD sent me to endocrinologist, who agreed with excessive weight gain, but still could not diagnose anything out of range, so nothing was done. Also blood tests have been done every 4 months or so (certain things stand out, but nothing glaring per doctor). And prior to the thyroid nodule, I had pains in my upper left rib for a year. That also was looked at with ultrasound and said possibly non-alcoholic non-fatty liver but then said nothing to be concerned with. I treated with castor oil packs nightly for weeks and epsom baths. Eventually pain went down.
I decided to at least try to resolve my excessive panic attacks on my own. I started with Ignatia 30 (In 2019) for about a year as needed, improvement was noted, but I was dosing way too much. After studying Gateway I, I changed it to Ignatia 200 2D and it worked for several months, then stopped. During Gateway II, found that I fit the symptoms for Aconite exactly (the fears listed in your Materia Medica fit me perfectly). So I took Aconite 200 2D for 10 weeks, worked great, then stopped. Started getting numbness at night in both arms and hands during the taking of Aconite which would wake me in a fright and I thought I was having a heart attack. (Which of course the heart issues in 2018 are still a nightmare). Currently, panic attacks over last two years went literally from 20 or so a day down to 2-4..that is with Homeopathy (and some vitamins, tapping and lavender). Obviously amazing. Now, I switched to Coffea cruda 200 2D to hopefully help with insomnia which has also persisted for years. I still wake up about every 1-2 hours. Anyway, the weight gain is so much that I now have nearly 50 pounds to lose. My periods have become irregular and I took Sepia 200 once a week and it did help to get it one month, but now nothing again. This train of trying to figure out what to do has become my every waking thought…so I am constantly reading and learning. But with some solutions working and some not, I may have to save up for a consultation (as I put my kids first and bought their course), but I still have Mindful course to finish. At least with Practical Homeopathy, I feel there IS an answer somewhere, somehow…I just don’t have the expertise to find it.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

What you’ve accomplished using homeopathy and other natural methods is nothing short of amazing. If the remaining concern is weight loss consider following Dr. Jason Fung and seriously look at a fasting lifestyle.

  23. Karen says:

Thank you, I will take a look at Dr. Jason Fung. I do fast 12-14 hours between my last meal and breakfast.
Thank you for your great presence and encouragement, Joette! What’s truly amazing is that you are an intelligent gracious woman on a mission to share the best of what you have learned and I am humbled to be your student, and now to share with my children.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Karen, What a lovely thing to say!
And I’m delighted that you’re teaching your children.
As a mother of adult children who also trust homeopathy, the comfort and joy it gives a mother are precious.

      1. Karen says:

You are their new teacher! I bought the Kids’ course and told them they have to try their absolute best because they will use this for the rest of their lives! THANK YOU, JOETTE!! Hugs to you.

        1. Dawn says:

Hi Karen not sure you will see this but you sound a lot like me. Did you ever find a path for your thyroid stuff? Weight gain? Testing for thyroid is not easy to interpret and often there is more involving how your body utilizes and converts hormones into activated forms.

  24. Mary Ann Noel says:

If I use intermittent fasting (Dr. Jason Fung) while dealing with Hashimoto’s, does this alter the homeopathic remedy schedule? For example, one set of remedies is morning and evening, the other is noon and night, usually this is 7 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., 9 p.m. Just wanted to know if timing changes. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      It doesn’t change timing.

  25. Loralee says:

Is homeopathic Iodine typically better tolerated than Lugol’s for people with Hashimotos? Have you ever heard of taking Iodium/Iodum CM one dose during a full moon for hypothyroid? It is supposed to balance the thyroid system in just one dose. It sounds really bizarre, but it taking a homeopathic medicine at a CM dangerous?

  26. cis says:

I think there is a typo in this article. You mention a case in which the doctor suspected hypothyroidism and THS was found to be low. But this does not make sense:
low THS is considered to indicate HYPERthyroidism; it is HIGH TSH that is used by most doctors to indicate hypothyroidism (though other tests should be run tpp).

So I think you meant to say something like “low thyroid function” or HIGH TSH.

    Hope this helps.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You’re correct and I actually thought that was corrected years ago. Thanks for the heads up.

      1. Laura says:

Your article is still saying high THS level, instead of low. That might be really confusing to some, and I know you thought it had been corrected, so I wanted to point it out.Thank you for all you do!

        1. Laura says:

Never mind! I now know that your article has been fixed. I see my own error in mixing those up! Ha!

  27. Karen says:

Hi Joette. I read somewhere (I should have written it down) that some people use Hepar Sulph 6c for thyroid nodules, once a day. Do you know if this is true or if the Banerjis use this seeing as though it is “soft tissue” infection? Or is a nodule not seen as an infection, but rather an abnormal growth?

  28. Irene says:

I saw in your article at the Weston Price Foundation dated 01/20/2018 that your protocol for thyroid nodules is Bromium 6 and Thuja occ. 30, each taken twice daily. If you have the nodules but your thyroid levels are normal, would you still recommend this protocol to treat the nodules?

  29. Sharon Barker says:

You say Lycopodium 200c and Bromium 6c. Banerjee protocol uses Lycopodium 30c with Bromium 6c. Have you found the 200c Lycopodium to be more effective in your practice? Just needed clarification. Thank you!

Can excessive hair loss be caused by thyroid nodules? In Feminopathy, it seems that hair fall/hair loss can be treated with Ustilago, then once the hair falling has stopped, can be thickened with Horsetail. It matters not the cause, correct?
But if the cause matters and hair fall suddenly happens in post-menopause, would you add something like Ammonium Carb (which helps through the transition, but does it help after the transition)? Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

If there is a thyroid problem it ought to be addressed. In doing so satellite symptoms will likely wain. Having said this, there’s no reason to use only one remedy at a time.

  31. DSimo says:

Is a nodule the same thing as a goiter and to be treated the same way?

  32. Sarah says:

Can severe, tenacious, and otherwise unaccounted for insomnia be caused by hypothyroidism? Or are these two separate issues to be addressed separately?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

The best way to learn what symptoms are associated with a particular condition is to look it up online.

  33. Sarah says:

How long should one stick to a protocol for a chronic condition, such as thyroid, before deciding that it isn’t working and they need another protocol? And if one takes medication, such as dedicated thyroid, at what point do they begin to wean?

  34. Sarah says:

What if the thyroid is low because of low TSH (which doctors have no idea what to do with since it’s backwards!) Would that be treated as any other hypothyroidism? (I also have T3 syndrome aka I don’t convert T4 to T3 as I should.) The regular thyroid protocol (lyco 200c + bromium 6c) has not made any difference in my thyroid or bloating in the past three months that I’ve used it so I wonder if you consider pituitary hypothyroidism and T3 syndrome like any other hypothyroidism and go on to the next protocol or go in another direction. Meanwhile I’ll look over my Materia media.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

We generally look at hypothyroidism as just that regardless of the descriptors.

  35. Dawn says:

Did you find a protocol that helped with your issues? They sound similar to mine

    1. Umm Sakeenah says:

Dear Joette, how would be the best way to introduce the homeopathic protocol for someone who had been taking thyroid medicine for 6 years and wishes to stop altogether but fears becoming obese because of the thyroid issues and that medicine seems to keep weight at bay!.. thank you.

  36. Karen says:

    Hi Joette.
Thyroid nodules that continue to grow and cause throat constriction, coughing and clearing the throat…would you go with a thyroid nodule protocol or the presenting symptoms like coughing?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Coughing from thyroid nodules is pretty specific.

  37. Jamey says:

Is there any way to help someone who had their thyroid radiated? My Sis-in-law had been so sick for a long time and it wound up being her thyroid….heart rate was 169 per minute, she was always exhausted, could only lay on the couch thinking she was dieing. They radiated her thyroid, said it was the only thing to do…. Of course she found out later that she could have healed it. Since then our family has looked toward healing but everyone she’s talked to says there’s nothing that can be done. I just found out about homeopathy about 3 weeks ago and thought I’d ask. If so, would she be able to contact you for help?

  38. Tara says:

    Hi Joette,
I am seven months postpartum with my second baby. I am typically a petite and slender woman, but now I am carrying an additional 20 lbs around my midsection that I cannot seem to loose. Last time I had a baby, I lost all of the weight by four months doing the same things I am currently doing. I am regularly breastfeeding and strength training and I eat a very clean diet with no added sugar or processed foods and plenty of nourishing animal products. I am having some memory issues and am fatigued, but that may be due to just having a baby. I am not sweating and I don’t seem to be overly sensitive to the cold. The article above mentions two different homeopathic medicines but I seem to fall between both profiles and not fitting into either of them. Is there more information on postpartum homeopathy and weightloss so that I know which one to use? Do you think one might be more appropriate? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

The best way to assess between 2 medicines is to read up on them in a Homeopathic Materia Medica. You can find them on line for free.

  39. Angie Reeves says:

Can you let me know the best way to set up a consultation?
    Thanks so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

I’m sorry but I’m presently not taking new clients.
