Tick. Tick. Tick. BOOM!

Listen. Can you hear it ticking? The tick, tick, tick of the time bomb we trigger when we suppress symptoms with allopathic drugs?

The word “symptom” in Latin means “sign.” Hence, symptoms are merely the outward manifestations of a more deeply seated imbalance.

When we simply remove the signs of illness, we will be obliged to suffer a more serious illness down the road.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

BOOM!

Josephine Agro had dark, fluttery eyes, and a temperament to be reckoned with.

Some may have politely said she was “spirited.” But may I be frank? Josephine was known to have violent tantrums. We’re not talking about little fits of anger; we’re referring to slash-and-burn behavior — the kind of rage that would be grounds for neighbors to call the police.

And Josephine was only thirteen!

But she wasn’t always this way.

It seemed as though things shifted in her conduct around the time Josephine hit puberty. Josephine had always had pretty disfiguring eczema, though around the time it cleared up, her behavior had drastically changed.

Her mom sometimes wondered if Josephine was the target of ridicule at school because her skin used to be so unsightly. But that didn't make sense, because her skin was now pretty clear.

In spite of Mrs. Agro's usual natural health standards, in order to potentially relieve her daughter of embarrassment, she had taken Josephine to a dermatologist who, predictably, prescribed steroid cream. Within short order, Josephine's skin was clear. So that couldn't be it.

However, within a few months of getting her skin straightened out, Josephine began to exhibit fierce fits of anger. She was increasingly becoming more demanding, out of hand, and wayward in her actions. Her behavior was caustic at home and her mom hoped that none of it had seeped out into other settings outside their house. Then one afternoon, Mrs. Agro witnessed a disturbing incident at school.

There to take her daughter to dance class, she found Josephine screaming at the top of her lungs — spitting at a group of her classmates. It was a sobering sight. When she queried her on what happened, her daughter stated one of the girls didn't laugh at her joke.

“Her behavior at home has been horrible, but this behavior was downright abnormal.”

A few years back, Mrs. Agro had taken one of my Gateway to Homeopathy Study Group and had become enamored with homeopathy; enough so to continue on with her studies.

A certain book she purchased on her own was one that was written as the very foundation of homeopathy. Though the book was fairly heavy-duty, she had enthusiastically plowed through it last spring. It was titled, The Organon of the Medical Art by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, edited and annotated by Wenda Brewster O'Reilly.

Now, she thought she recalled that in homeopathy, if skin conditions are suppressed with allopathic drugs, other conditions that are more sobering can come forth. She pawed through the pages and readily found one she had dog-eared when she first studied it.

This is what she read:

  • “Removal of local symptoms results in a heightening of the whole disease.”
  • “Almost all mental and emotional diseases are one-sided diseases in which the somatic symptoms have diminished, and the mental and emotional symptoms have heightened.”

The dermatologist had said with confidence the steroid cream was the answer to Josephine's skin problem, and it certainly did make it look remarkably better. But according to the medical text above, the illness was driven to a deeper state. She couldn't help but suspect that the skin eruptions were perhaps removed, only to be replaced by a behavioral problem.

As she read on, Dr. Hahnemann elaborated:

  • “Find out about the patient’s somatic disease before it degenerates into a mental and emotional disease.”
  • “Homeopathic treatments can produce rapid and striking results in cases of mental and emotional disease.”

“My God! What have we done?”

“That’s it!” she declared, “I'm throwing that ointment into the garbage!” At the same time, she also knew something else was needed to replace it.

The first remedy Mrs. Agro gave her daughter was Nux vomica 200. She chose this because she knew it was a good medicine for ailments resulting from synthetic drugs and was also useful for outbursts of anger; particularly when someone takes simple comments as insults. What completed her decision was the fact that Josephine had been complaining of constipation. At the very least, it was a good place to start.

Just as one might expect, Josephine's skin condition returned and became even more prominent along her face once the topical steroid was no longer being applied.

It wasn’t easy to witness this development, but Mrs. Agro held steadfast, even against her daughter's protests.

That's when Mrs. Agro gave her Antimonium crudum 6C.

In just about three weeks, Josephine no longer complained of constipation but more importantly, her formerly out-of-control behavior moderated. Even her sleep seemed to have improved.

Then a month later, the last vestiges of Josephine's eczema pretty much disappeared, leaving behind only lightened spots on her tanned skin. Like a choreographed pas de deux of the intellect and the corporeal, the human body displayed its harmonious response to her mom's well-chosen homeopathic medicines.

Today, Josephine is mostly clear of any skin ailments or constipation and has been liberated from the burdens of bad behavior, prior to which could have likely been diagnosed as mental illness!

And Mrs. Agro is more committed to homeopathy than ever before. (Subconsciously, I'll bet the kids at school are grateful, too!)

She recognizes firsthand that it’s not really the side effects of drugs that are the scoundrels, but rather that the drugs can drive illness to a deepened state.

This is the potential seed of chronic physical and mental illnesses. Josephine and her family are more convinced than ever that they will remain drug-free. No more ticking time bombs!

Pass on the good news of homeopathy!

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

P.S. It is noteworthy to observe that Dr. Hahnemann’s work is not mere theory but reflects proven laws of human health. These truths have been proven in hospitals, university research, clinics and private practices around the globe. Homeopathy is honored by history, science and proud standing in the world community of medicine. You can learn more about how to treat every day and even not so everyday illnesses in my Gateway to Homeopathy: A Guided Study Group Curriculum.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

I had breast cancer. It was removed and received chemo and

    Good article.

I take the view that constantly repeated dosing (which includes foods) will cause things to bite you back.
IMO, people should vary diet, and take ‘dosage holidays’ with allopathics. If they must use them. And if it is safe to do so. But I don’t expect ever to see any research that would cost Pharma money!

And it’s a theme of homeopathy – and other holistic therapies – not only that internal diseases are seen to leave the system, but also that suppressing external symptoms causes disease to move inwards, potentially causing more havoc. And eventually reaching the brain & mind, – the reverse direction of Hering’s Rule of Cure (q.v.)

But, small fact-check gripe: “symptom means sign”? No, they are different.
A ‘sign’ is what you can see, a ‘symptom’ is something that’s described.

My homeopathic doctor keeps me on 4 to 7 different homeopathic medicines every day, whether treating me for acute or chronic conditions, and I’ve been seeing her for years. I have had great success with homeopathy, but I would like your opinion on taking the remedies together for so long; isn’t it better to take a break, because I do take breaks, even though she recommends staying on them? Thank you !

If you’ve had good results, that speaks for itself.

Thank you Joette! I enjoy reading all your articles! I have a 10 month old with eczema. I gave him arsenicum 200 and antimonium 200 for 6 weeks, with no luck. He also has many food allergies, which I am trying to pinpoint. Do you think it would be better to address the food issues first? I am hoping that Bovista will help.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The way I teach this is to use both food intolerance protocols in tandem with skin and allergy protocols. If you haven’t taken my courses, Good Gut Bad Gut and Skin; the Ugly Truth, I urge you to do so particularly when working with such deep conditions.

  6. Vanessa says:

Thank you so much for this! The last 6 months of over-the-top stress (due to pending, now passed mandatory vax laws here in CA), has resulted in my first ever case of eczema. Coupled with my changing hormones and my bright idea to drastically clean up my diet and celery juice every day has resulted in me feeling great but my skin is a disaster. Going to pick up this remedy tonight. Thank you for all you do.

a serious situation has come our way. My husband was getting a combination of weakness and pain and swelling in the ankle. An cardiac emergency nurse friend of ours told my husband he has deep vein embolism and that it probably went to his lungs. In the hospital we found out that he had 24 blood clots in his lungs! He is on coumadin. We are back eating garlic every day, and a first for my husband he will be drinking lemon water to thin his blood. Can we eventually replace coumadin with a homeopathic remedy. It’s only been 2 weeks and thankfully we have seen results. Will be getting another scan of his lungs in 4 months. He is 67 and this is the only meds he takes.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

This situation is beyond the consideration of a blog. It’s better to work with a personal consultation.

  8. Jordan says:

Finished Gateway 1 and am eating up all I can from your blog & Banerji protocols online!

If a remedy seems to work for 1 week (frequency/intensity significantly reduced) and then flares up, is that a proving, healing, or aggravation, or maybe just due to too high of a potency?

I needed something for recent (starting 6 mos ago) recurring reflux, possible esophageal and gall issues. Decided on Nux Vomica (and went with 200c 2x/day, b/c of your stories such as this one for emotions and for overall “toxic” issues.)

It truly seemed to help for the above issues for about 1 week, but now for this past week the reflux/GERD symptoms are increasing steadily, and are more than ever before (along with some definite frustration flare-ups that had pleasantly gone missing!)

Should I “hold strong”, and continue with the Nux Vomica like Mrs. Argo did while adding Ant crud for the “more prominent” symptom (I’m thinking the Banerji protocol Lycopodium 200c/Arsenicum Album 3 matches mine)?

    Or just reduce the potency?

Or drop the Nux Vomica altogether and call the 1 week of relief a coincidence?

(the other remedies I’m taking are Phosphorous 200c, and Cal Fluor 12x+Cal Phos 6x, if that matters.)

  9. Susan says:

Which homepathic is good for back and hip pain?
I am taking Gabapentin so I can sleep but don’t want to.
Pursuing other natural treatments as well.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

It depends on what is meant by back and hip pain. These medicines are successful when choosing the one that is based on the kind of pain and if it’s joint vs. tendons or muscles.
Should you be interested, I offer a very specific online course titled “Pain” that covers all of the specifics to find precisely the medicine for specific pain.

Hello Joette, is there remedy for dark spots or what are called liver spots? They are spreading from the torso upwards to the face.
    thank you
