Mosquito Bites? Let Homeopathy and Essential Oils Help

mosquito blog image

Courtney’s son woke up with a large, crimson goose egg in the middle of his forehead. It looked like he’d been hit with a baseball right between the eyes!

“A mosquito was buzzing in my room last night – I guess it got me.”

The swelling was so red and angry- looking that her husband’s initial reaction was to hustle him off to the ER.

Courtney certainly knew that mosquitoes were more than just pesky little bloodsuckers; they can also carry parasites and viruses that spread some of the most debilitating diseases in the world.

And it was also the first time she had seen or heard of such an allergic reaction to a simple mosquito bite.

But Courtney had confidence in her homeopathic knowledge and confidence.

She was up for the task.

Some may be thinking the answer was Deet, right? Not so: joettecalabrese.com/blog/articles/3-homeopathic-remedies-for-pesticide-exposure/

Fortunately, Courtney knew to avoid toxic chemicals. She had her own essential oil repellent that not only smelled great but worked great, too.

Had she known about the vermin in her son’s room she might have used it before his insect incident.

The following is Courtney's home remedy (and what she could have done to prevent her son's allergic reaction):

1) Natural Repellent

Fill an 8 oz. spray bottle half-full of witch hazel or vodka.

Fill the rest of the bottle with water and then add the following oils:

  • 14 drops of Patchouli
  • 14 drops of Cedarwood
  • 8 drops of Geranium
  • 5 drops of Catnip

Apply a spritz to exposed skin and clothing when spending time outside. Reapply as needed.

2) Mosquito Magnets

Have you ever known someone who seems to be a mosquito magnet? These unlucky souls get bite after bite, while the person right next to them is left seemingly unscathed. You may also notice that the bites they experience tend to really swell up.

For those whose blood seems to be the perfect mosquito mojito, Staphysagria 6 or 30 (Apply the discount coupon code “Joette” at check-out for an additional 20% off!), taken a few times before going outside, can help quash the mosquitoes' interest, leaving them less likely to gorge. (Courtney now knows to consider this method for her son.)

*While the following protocol has been distilled for you, take careful note of the symptoms so you can choose the correct homeopathic remedy.*

If you do suffer from unfortunate insect bites, they can be treated with Ledum palustre or Apis mellifica.

Courtney considered Ledum palustre 200 because it has a history of addressing insect bites that carry diseases (as well as saliva that causes allergic reactions.)

Using Ledum 200C every few hours until symptoms are gone is the method she learned from my courses.

However, if the site has an edematous (excessive amount of fluid) swelling, is red and (especially), is hot to the touch, it's time to consider Apis mellifica 30C or 200C.

In Courtney’s son's case, he was a good candidate for Apis, so that’s what she used. After a few doses, the itching diminished, and the swelling reduced a bit.

These little changes for the better gave her comfort in knowing that she had chosen well, so she continued giving it to him every few hours. (Remember this approach. It will serve you well when trying to discern what to do next.)

By the next day, her son’s forehead looked near-to-normal, the bothersome itching was barely there, and she had avoided a superfluous trip to the ER.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.
