Measles Revisited

A while back, I posted an article about measles. This issue has recently lit up the Internet, as many are concerned about potentially contracting this disease.

Today’s post is a guest post by one of my staff members, Paola Brown, on her experience with measles.

Paola Headshot 2

When I was about two years old and living in my native country of Brazil, I contracted measles. Cared for by my mom and dad, I overcame the disease and am now immune for life.

With the headlines inflaming the issue of measles, I called my parents and asked them what it was like treating a child with this disease. I hoped for some advice on how to deal with it in case any of my own three children caught it. Their response was:

“I don’t remember,” and “I don’t know,” respectively.

I’m the kind of gal that likes to learn from the experience of others, and I was pretty annoyed when they couldn’t recollect ANYTHING from my and my older brother’s run ins with measles. Even with prodding, they simply could not recall a smidgen of detail on this experience.

Determined to get some firsthand wisdom on this issue, I called my grandma in Sao Paulo. “What was it like when Mom had the measles?” I asked. Again, I got the same blank response.

Each of them, in their own words, explained to me that while measles carries some minor risks, it wasn’t a concern like it is made to be today. It was just a childhood disease that one gets and overcomes.

My father relayed that when I was growing up, and a child would come down with the measles, the mothers in the neighborhood would gather together all of their kids and stuff them in a room with the person who was contaminated. So they would play and giggle during their big measles play date, and all the while those measles germs would fly all over the place. Before they knew it, everyone had caught it. He explained to me that the children would be one step closer to someday having a healthy immune system. “I’m sure many communities in Brazil continue this practice even today,” he pondered.

Wow. So what's the problem?

The interesting part is that when I was younger, my mom was accustomed to using homeopathy. When I prodded her about whether or not she used homeopathy on my measles, she responded that she is sure she did, as she purchased her first kit when she was pregnant with my eldest sibling.

Today, I’m grateful for the Banerji protocols, which bring me yet another step closer to being prepared for my family.

Joette cited in her previous article that the Banerji Protocol for measles is:

First Line Remedies

Bryonia alba 30C pellets, two doses daily

Belladonna 3C  for a high temperature, one dose every 30 minutes until the temperature is stable

Ipecac 30C, for accompanying cough, one dose every hour may be given if necessary

Second Line Remedies

Bryonia alba 30C alternated every hour with Antimonium crudum 6C

While I am not interested in minimizing the concerns that may arise when one contracts the measles, such as encephalitis (as many doctors, the media and the CDC emphasize), I am interested in knowing how homeopathy can help one overcome this disease gently and fully, as it helped my siblings and me when we had the measles all those years ago.

P.S. Would you would like to learn more about how to be prepared for epidemics and other crises, as well as all types of first aid situations and sourcing these remedies?  Then you need my course The Survivalist Guide to Homeopathy. Learn more about how homeopathy is THE medicine for when the SHTF. I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

    Love this! Thank you 🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Paola is right on the mark. So are many others who have had it with these disease scares. What ever happened to ebola? SARS? AIDS in every family in the US? Avian flu? Bovine flu? Swine flu? H1N1? Anthrax? Mad cow disease? West Nile virus? And those are just those I recall off the top of my head!

  2. Paula A. says:

    Oi Paola,

I’m from Sao Paulo, as well. I believe the MMR vaccine is part of the schedule in Brazil these days, too. Even the chicken Pox vaccine is being adopted there now.
I have a question about the Banerji protocol for measles. Joette wrote a post last year where she mentions Bryonia Alba 30C, 2 doses daily, as a first line treatment. Has that changed?

    Obrigada,

    Paula

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its not changed. It was accidentally omitted during editing and posting and we just put it back in.

  3. Andrea kelly says:

Thank you for this post! My family and I with three kids under 3 are traveling next week to Arizona. Are there any homeopathic immune boosters that I can give my children prior to leaving, on the plane, and while we are there? Thank you so much!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Generally speaking, unless the children are particularly prone to getting infections, its best not to use homeopathy and instead, cod liver oil daily, bone stocks for many meals in advance, fermented foods, etc. I save homeopathy for specific pathologies.

  4. Evelyn says:

Thank you for such balanced information. The media is hysterical and in a fear frenzy, but ultimately it is a sneak attack on health freedom, which should be our God-given right. Thank you again!

  5. Fran says:

In your earlier article on measles, you recommended Bryonia alba, 30c in the first line of defense. You do not include it here. Any changes?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

so sorry, we’ll make the correction. it should have been included.

    2. Paola Brown says:

      Hi Fran,

Good eye. It was somehow deleted in the publishing process, and it’s being mended now. It should read:
      ***First Line of Medicines:***
-Bryonia alba, 30C pellets, two doses daily.
-Belladonna 3C in liquid for high temperature, one dose every 30 minutes until the temperature is stable.
-Ipecac 30C, one dose every hour may be given if necessary for accompanying colds and coughs.
      ***Second Line of Medicines:***
-Bryonia alba 30C and Antimonium crudum 6C, one dose every hour alternately.

  6. Isabelle Hidaka says:

I did get measles twice in my elementary years and it wasn’t a big deal beside looking spotty all over , getting rest, staying hydrated.
I grew up in France and although my mother didn’t use homeopathy yet, there was no calling the doctor or user of drugs but keeping well nourished, comfortable if weather is hot to keep fever down if any.I had received some vaccines but certainely Not measles, mumps or chickenpox, all considered normal childhood illnesses there still today.
It isn’t that long ago.Friends and family laugh at it. But perhaps we fail to see how in a poor country where people are malnourished and the climate require to be hydrated it can become quickly more dangerous and that to some indigenous population could be a risk because it doesn’thave the same build up immunity and that risks vaccinated or not is very real either way.It should be based on individual cases with family doctor since this country has different heritage backgrounds.
So I turned pinkish red and played at home until cleared and went to school shortly after. This was the 70s.
In 2005 my son contracted chickenpox and treated him with homeopathy without calling the doctor since over the decades we learn to use homeopathy and the family doctor would have done the same.Because we were traveling back to the states I took my child to the doctor to get his feed back on our timing having to travel back in a plane shortly after to return to the states. He laughed and said it wasn’t necessary but he would if that would appease me.
I forgot whom had mentioned I should have a doctors note just in case! Upon a routine exam to our pediatrician in the US I mentioned how we treated the childhood illness with homeopathy and was told we must have been mistaken so I asked for a blood test which confirmed it.(my family friend is comprise of nurses and docs and casual had confirmed it).It was in records than for us when asked to vaccinate that our child was naturally immuned.Upon receiving his measles shot he contracted it within couple weeks after: I treated him again with homeopathy and upon returning to the pediatrician shortly after was told it wasn’t possible but merely an foods allergy. We had blood test and confirmed he was immuned. Eventually we stopped all vaccine after repeated ills after inoculations.

    1. Jenny says:

This is exactly what I have been saying but can’t prove. How many children have been diagnosed “contact dermatitis” or “allergy”when they have the measles from their shots? ” You do not see what you are not looking for” has been said again and again and in the US it is so very true. 95% of ther people look at me with a totally blank look if I mention that shots shed or the above about having measles but think it’s just a rash. I mean a Blank look then they get a little upset and tell me “No they don’t or no it can’t happen.” I’m vaccinated and got many of the illnesses anyway. Family doc told my mom vaccines don’t work but have to give em out. Nice, isn’t that thought? Thanks for the help. My daughter is in the process of getting all the remedies for her 2& 1 year old. They already get lots of fermented foods, bone broth and sunshine when we get it and it’s above 0°. Need to get ther cod liver oil. I’m actually wondering about my husband who doesn’t think he had the measles and he is part of the “waning vaccine population” the cdc is thinking about adding the 3rd shot for. He would b fine but I’m sure, if I took him to doc, no one would ever hear about his, or any other like him, measles case.

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Having the measles protocols handy, as per the article would be a great place to start.

  7. Isla says:

I’ve heard that this measles outbreak started at Disney Land in California, shortly after a mandatory Measles vaccine for all staff members, has anyone else heard anything about this?

The CDC records show that 108 people have died from the adverse effects of the Measles vaccine (statistics recorded by the VAERS reporting system)while there have been no recorded deaths from actual Measles in the last 12 years.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Dig and you find information that is hidden.

      1. Carey says:

Isla, do you have a source for that information? It seems that if true, it should be made public.

  8. Sara says:

Thank you for this article! Just yesterday I had looked up the previous article Joette had on measles as I was needing wisdom about measles wondering if we were dealing with it. I don’t think we are, but it is reassuring to hear the casualness of others who have gotten through the disease with no problems. We have chosen not to vaccinate so it is important for me to learn how to best help my kids. One question I have, if my kids don’t ever contract these diseases as children (measles, mumps, chicken pox) how do they develop immunity before adulthood? I’ve heard it is dangerous to contract these diseases as adults. Thank you for all the free help!

You might be interested in blog article on a book I reviewed that discusses this. In the search bar of my blog, enter the word “The Solution”. It will take you to the article and to purchase the book, just click on the title in color in the body of the text.

      1. suzie says:

good book! I got it because it was on here. won’t do it to my kid unless we get to teen years and have not had it wild yet tho. see no reason till then. but like idea tho. know people who had chicken pox as adult. they weren’t that sick but worse then me and my sibs were as kids.

  9. Judy says:

I had measles, German measles, and chicken pox long before there was a vaccine, but I was still vaccinated for DPT, polio, and smallpox.

  10. Shana Tova says:

I was reared in a very “modern medical” family. When my son contracted whooping cough, I was terrified. I hadn’t discovered homeopathy yet, but the disease didn’t amount to much for him. He had a couple of days of coughing with the signature “whoop” after each cough. Then it was gone.
Later on, I learned that the children’s multi-vitamin that I’d been giving him had nettles in it, and that stinging nettles was an old-time remedy for whooping cough.
“Natural Miracles” are all around us, if we’re willing to see them.

Our education never ends and that’s what makes life interesting.

  11. Shelley says:

I had the measles at 1 year old and my sister and I had the mumps. My mother does not remember much about it either so we figure it was not that bad. I also had the chicken pox at 24 years of age. My son was a 6 month old baby and caught it first then gave it to me. It was 95 humid degrees that summer and we had no air conditioner so it was a bit uncomfortable, especially when nursing my son, but it was not such a big deal at all. Thanks for the information to keep on hand for my grandchildren!

  12. Barb says:

While I went through measles, chicken pox, etc as a kid and though it was uncomfortable, it was no big deal. My concern is these days kids just aren’t as hardy as they were a generation or so ago. It’s all very well pushing real food, real exercise and time outdoors to boost the immune system, but the reality is that most kids are simply fragile hot house flowers suffering from a lot of stress. With my luck I could encourage a mom to let her child go through the measles and it would end up in ICU for a week.

  13. Tamara says:

Great article, Paola! Have you had successes treating autoimmune diseases, like UC or Crohn’s as well?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Tamara, This is Joette and homeopathy has a history of working with autoimmune disease. My Good Gut Bad But course covers them as well, so that the student can work on these conditions themselves. Go to the front page of my website and click on Good Gut Bad Gut.

    2. Paola Brown says:

This month as I look at my autoimmune diseases, Tamara, I find myself 95% cured with homeopathy. Indeed, Joette’s Good Gut Bad Gut course was instrumental in my healing process.

      Hugs,
      Paola

  14. Denise says:

When my son was an infant in 1998, we refused vaccinations until he was older. Instead, we visited a homeopath and purchased “homeopathic vaccines” for the major illnesses, and gave our son the pills at the prescribed intervals. Was curious if this is a common practice in homeopathy? Thank you for any feedback.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

THere are some homeopaths who follow this method. WHile in Calcutta, where infectious diseases are common, I didn’t see the doctors use this method per say.

  15. Stephanie says:

Would these protocols be used for a pregnant mom who was *exposed* to measles, or would there be a different protocol to follow? Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The protocols stated are for when someone has measles, not as a prophylactic.

  16. Anastasia says:

There is a link in the article that goes to a Survivalists’ Guide. Where can I purchase?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Its not available on line at this time. Pls call our office at 716.941.1045 9-4:30 EST and we’ll make arrangements for you.

  17. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabres,

The Banerji’s recently released a statement concerning taking Thuja 30 as a preventative for Corona Virus. In it, they say, “We are very successful in the treatment of measles, chicken pox and swine flu. This is very similar and can be very successfully handled with our Protocols.”

Mrs. Calabrese, do you suppose they are pointing us in the direction of the Measles, Chicken Pox and Swine Flu Protocols for help in treating Corona Virus, or perhaps they are simply stating their successes with highly contagious viruses?

Thank you for sharing these amazing Doctors with me and my family. They have blessed us so very much.
