Coconut Oil

When faced with skin problems, such as acne, a rash or eczema, our first thought is to make it go away as quickly as possible.

But don’t.

Skin problems are simply a symptom of something more. Indeed, it may be the last step in the body’s attempt to drive something from the inside (vital organs) to the outside (skin).

If we interfere with that process, we will likely drive the problem back inside, leading to future, more serious problems.

Homeopathy sees the use of drugs as a serious impairment to the well-being of the person. When a drug, such as cortisone or other creams, is applied to a skin problem, the skin may clear but the pathology still remains. Only the outer experience or appearance is addressed. The disease not only remains but is driven deeper into the essence of the person.

In other words, the illness isn't cured; it becomes subterranean.

On a practical level, what does this mean? Well, it is no mystery that eczema and asthma are keenly connected. They are both pathologies of the epithelial cells that are exposed to outside elements. Hence, the skin and lungs are not only similar but are representations of each other.

So, when cortisone or the like is applied to the skin, the eczema recedes over time, but lung issues, such as asthma, bronchitis, etc. often appear. When we suppress an illness on the skin, even though it is undeniably uncomfortable, we're trading it for a disease of the lungs that can be life-threatening. The trade is a less serious illness for a more sobering one.

Not a sound choice.

Homeopathy works to assist the person's ability to resolve the illness with a gentle stimulus from the remedy. Instead of slamming the sufferer with a new, more potent illness, the remedy gently nudges the sufferer's ability to resolve the pathology on its own.

Consider the case of Mary, a woman who had been suffering from eczema, with cracking of the skin, relentless itching at night and an inability to use her hands for her daily work. The reason she chose homeopathy was that it had worked so well for her children and husband for other illnesses.

The remedy chosen for Mary was Petroleum 200. This remedy is specific for eruptions that present during winter months.

Mary took a dose of the remedy every 3 days for a few months, and for the itching, she used Antimonium crud 6X twice daily.

This is the homeopathic protocol determined by the Banerjis and has been shown over the last 120 years to clear up Mary’s type of eczema.

That’s exactly what happened. Mary’s eczema eruption slowly improved. It took weeks. However, during that period of time, other areas of discomfort were also resolved.

Meanwhile, until her hands were fully cleared, the young mother used nothing over the counter or prescribed. The only thing that is acceptable on the skin is what comes from the kitchen. That is, if the skin product can't fully be eaten, it does not belong on the skin.

Lard, unsalted butter, plain yogurt, coconut oil and olive oil are examples of acceptable skin creams. Unpronounceable ingredients don't belong in or on our bodies.

All skin difficulties such as eczema, psoriasis, warts, acne and the like are outward pathologies that represent the inner health of the person. If we listen to what our skin is telling us, we can often uproot a deeper pathology and return our bodies to a healthier state.

For true skin and subterranean health, choose homeopathy. It is not superficial or of questionable safety. Indeed, it produces the vigor of clear, glowing skin that everyone deserves.

Warmly,

Joette Calabrese

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Thank you for this entry. Very informative. What is the best remedy for acne, acne scars, and cystic acne? Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

‘Funny you should ask. I’ve just written on this subject and it should be published within the next few weeks.

  2. Jennifer says:

Oh, Ms. Calabrese, what a wonderful, timely post! I am a mother of six who is struggling with the exact issues you mention. My hands are so itchy and cracked, and are often rendered useless by the end of a day. Just today, I made a homemade balm and am finding some relief, but I look forward to trying the protocol you recommend. Thank you so much! My oldest son is currently suffering from severe eczema and acne. I would love to know your recommended protocol. I’m so thankful to be learning more!

  3. Jan says:

I have been diagnosed with eczema from my scalp, back, chest, arms, legs, and feet. I’m told that it is because of the severe stress I am enduring at this time in my life. I’m seeing a dermatologist who has prescribed a cortisone creme which is not working. I have decided to stop the cortisone, and I am using only coconut oil. Should I use the remedies stated above? I’ve had the eczema for about 3 months now and it is just about driving me crazy!

    1. Cheli says:

Hi Jan, I work in Joette’s office. While she cannot advise anyone specifically regarding their situations, she writes these blogs based on what works for most people.

      Best of luck to you!

      Cheli

  4. Lindsey says:

Thank you for this! My hands have been cracked for so long and nothing has helped; like the woman in the post, I have young children and the constant hand washing is so painful. I’ve been using sulphur 6x for about 6 weeks as recommended by my homeopath, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I think I might try petroleum. How long should I give a remedy before trying another one?

    1. Cheli says:

Hello Lindsey, if a remedy is the right remedy, you will generally see a small improvement after four or five tries with an acute situation. With chronic, long standing situations it can take longer, but 6 weeks is a very long time to stick with something that is not helping.

      Good luck! Cheli

  5. janine says:

I, too have dealt with eczema.Sulphur 6x has helped me like nothing else (and believe me i tried a lot of natural things). Also what seems to help now is to eat lots of fats, daily evening primrose & codliver oil.
    So grateful to homeopathy!!!

  6. Jeffrey says:

Please give instructions for making natural moisturizing creams if possible that include remedies.

  7. Carolyn says:

I have two options now that are working well for cracked fingers, calloused heals, rough elbows, chapped lips.

Water Buffalo Tallow – which I purchased from a rancher in GA.
Deer(venison)fat, which I skimmed off of the bone broth.

  8. Krista says:

Great article! I would love to know what to try for my rosacea!

    1. Susie Q says:

      Krista

I use pure coconut oil from the health food store 22 bucks for a huge jar it has to be PURE i had bad rosacea as well and the coconut oil has tones down the red and my skin feels younger and healthier i know it feels greasy but it will soak in i also use allot on my hands and they to feel great
      good luck

  9. Deborah says:

My husband has had eczema rash on his left foot for over 40 years. He has been taking Antimonium 200 and Arsenicum 200 for 2 months with no results. It is still itchy and cracked. It is there all the time not just in a certain season. Any recommendations would be helpful.

    1. it is important to note nuances in how illness presents. i didn’t say that eczema that is benefited by Petroleum is for skin that presents during a certain season, but rather it is worsened or aggravated or more apparent, or itchier etc. by winter.
when there is cracking, it is more likely to be Petroleum 200 than any other remedy.

  10. Thank you for this reminder to avoid cortisone creams. It can be tempting in these winter months for relief, but your remedy suggestions will be a great alternative!

  11. megan says:

I took probiotics and got the worst of my exama gone years ago. still break out from weeds in same way that is just like the exama. some I suppose would call it contact derm but i see it is just like the exama. will look at these and see if i break out agin this summer. However I started taking the 12 cell salts and broke out 12 hrs later so Im may have takin care of this. just wait and see if I break out again…

  12. Kim says:

thanks for the post…I just reached out to you regardng my sons eczema so i appreciate the article…i am a week in on a protocol recc by dr banerji…i am a little confused bc the banerji book doesnt describe this protocol…it uses arsenicum and either hepar or graphitis….i will try this protocol with petroleum if no improvement…thank you

  13. Shelley says:

Great article! My 8 month old granddaughter has had eczema all winter. Would this be ok to use for her also?

    1. Cheli says:

In general, the remedies apply based on symptoms, regardless of the age of the sufferer.

      Kind regards, Cheli

  14. Emily says:

Thank you Joette! Would the above remedies also work for perioral dermatitis? The dermatologist I saw diagnosed my rash around the eyes and mouth as P.D. and said there is no known cause, but that it seems to be a mix between acne and eczema. I have been applying the topical antibiotics out of desperation but would really like to get to the root of this!

  15. Shannon Howard says:

I have had great results from these remedies for dry skin issues. Are there different remedies for fungal infections on the skin?

  16. Kendra says:

Thank you for this article! My husband has been dealing with what we think is a extreme case of eczema. His hands are extremely cracked, swollen, itchy, and recently have been oozing clear liquid out. He wakes up to fits of scratching his hands. We havent gone to a dermatologist because we figure they will give a drug that we’re not comfortable with taking. He’s done coconut oil, aloe vera, tea tree oil… Should he try what you listed above? He is so done with this battle that he pretty much has given up.

  17. Monica says:

This is wonderful information. My 6 year old daughter had terrible itchy and bleeding eczema with big scabs when she was 3. She was constipated, irritable, and had freakish nightmares….all this after her first and only DTP shot. I found GAPS and realized gluten and her digestive imbalance was a big issue. She ate noodles all the time. We changed her diet to high good fats, eggs, and no gluten with much success. She is 6 now and while eczema free, still gets colds that settle in her lungs. I’m wondering if Petroleum 200 be appropriate for healing her inner condition?

  18. Cheli says:

There are so many people with skin problems. Thanks for posting this!

  19. Joette, does this protocol also assist animals with eczema, rashes, hot spots, etc. and coughs? I don’ know any animals that have asthma, but maybe they do. I sure know a lot of animals with the itchies and scratchies. Thanks, Helene

    1. as long as it can be considered eczema, then the protocol i discussed here is a very good place to start.
as for hot spots, etc. that is a the subject of another blog.

i like it and will make a point of writing on the subject in the future.

  20. LIZ says:

A great article and something everyone should hear! I particularly love this paragraph:

All skin difficulties such as eczema, psoriasis, warts, acne and the like are outward pathologies that represent the inner health of the person. If we listen to what our skin is telling us, we can often uproot a deeper pathology and return our bodies to a healthier state.

    Thank you!

  21. cynthia says:

Thankyou for the information! What would you suggest for acne and for fungus ( raised round red splotches on the shoulders and chest…dermatologist says it is fungus from something in the air) He gave my brother a harshanti-fungal cream…which worked for a few month’s, but now it is back!)So true…about ‘skin uprooting a deeper pathology’!!Thankyou for any help!

    1. there have been so many good topics that i’ve noted from this blog. i’d love to cover the subject of fungus right here, but in order to do it justice, i’ll make a note to write about it soon.

  22. MK says:

I have some raised red bumps on my face. My energy worker thinks it’s stress-related. Which formula might you suggest?
Thanks so much for addressing this issue.

    1. since what you’re experiencing isn’t eczema, and we don’t know the specifics, it will have to wait for another blog. meanwhile, consider some of the suggestions here that others have found useful.

  23. Denise says:

I am a hairstylist with asthma. I also in the last 2 years have been suffering form severe dermatitis/excema on face or hands regularly. It all started when I purchased a face cream at TJ Max that said it was all natural. I used it on my face and after a few days use I broke out with a severe reaction of itchy rash that weeped and crusted and drove me crazy!(not to mention hideous) Several weeks of itching and a swollen and painful face, it slowly cleared up. It came back again while I was under stress, but not as bad. Months later I tried the lotion on my forearms(dumb!) and broke out terribly and immediately to the point my arms were so swollen and itching that I was ready to go to the emergency room. I ended up on prednisone, which cleared it slowly, but it somewhat returned after I finished the pills. Long story short, now I am dealing with my hands breaking out in a similar and painful situation. I decided to treat this naturally. I cut out the extra coffee in my diet and the 2 glasses of red wine a night and now drink a splash of apple cider vinegar twice a day along with a 50/50 mix of ACV and water wiped over the affected area.(trying to get less acidic ph) This burns a bit but not too bad and has greatly helped to heal me. It’s been slow. I read something yesterday that it’s ok to soak your hands in hot water when they are itching, because it releases the histamine making you itch. I’d always read to stay away from hot water and showers when you have a break out, but man does it feel good. My hands are mostly healed so I did let the hot hot water run over them a few minutes last night and it really does give itching relief, but not sure if it would be good it the skins is just starting to scab over. I also use coconut oil for soothing and softening, but sometimes it makes them itch. Anything with petroleum in it makes my dermatitis itch like crazy. I stay away from it now.

I think the problem stems from a person being somewhat immune compromised and then stress creating the extreme breakouts. From what I’ve learned to date:
Cut out acidic things in your diet, eat better
Drink apple cider vinegar 2x a day( a splash in some juice)
apply 50/50 ACV and water to affected area 2-3x aday
use only a natural oil on skin
    Cool compresses
*Possibly running hot water over affect area(not sure on this one yet, but it sure feels good)
Do not scratch your skin off, it just makes it worse.
Good luck and post your remedies please!

  24. Denise says:

Make that ORGANIC AC Vinegar like Bragg’s brand, don’t use the store brands, they are made using charcoal

  25. Alina says:

Thanks Joette! I have also found a high fat diet including cod liver oil (and raw milk instead of pasteurized) to be of great help in keeping my eczema at bay.

  26. Carey says:

I’d love to hear Joette’s thoughts about acne, though I imagine it’s more complicated than eczema.

    1. Sarah says:

Me too! I have tried homeopathy for my skin, but apparently it wasn’t the right remedy because it still is not resolved. I feel like in my thirties this shouldn’t be something I should be dealing with!

    2. i’ve written about acne on this blog. feel free to enter the word “acne” and scroll down the article.

i will mention, however, that i have some new opinions on acne that i learned during my fellowship at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation this past jan and feb.

i hope to write about it here soon. meanwhile, you might also be interested in the recorded webinar course i gave called Good Gut, Bad Gut that covers this subject quite well. should you be interested, feel free to contact my office and ask for Jill, 716.941.1045. she will help you navigate our educational products to suit your financial and interests.

    3. hi carey, plse see the comment below that includes my response.

  27. Chey says:

Hello, two of my children have multiple warts, on the knee and elbow areas. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

    1. i guess i need to write about warts. thanks for the suggestion!

  28. Darlene says:

Help, my daughter has a wart that we have tried sooooo much even the nasty over the counter and 4 treatments from Dr. to no avail, we have tried natural products as well, I know we need to build her immune system. I have been told it is viral, she has been on probiotics, and lots of vitamins but it is not doing anything noticeable to the wart. My other daughter has severe acne, we have worked on supporting her colon and kidneys, and many different natural remedies, coconut oils, castor oil witch hazel, lemons, just to name a few, to over the counter and it just seems to be getting progressively worse

    1. as much as i believe in boosting the immune system with coconut oil, etc. i find that often nothing touches such issues like homeopathy. that’s because homeopathy is medicine at its finest. and it requires more than a boost to uproot certain illnesses.

  29. Robert Ortiz says:

I was diagnosed with Granuloma Annulare (Biopsy) two years ago. The medication I was prescribed was a steroid which I did not want to use. I recently started using raw coconut oil which has reduced the redness and the puffines in the circles. Is there anything else I should try. By the way we attended your conference in Chino ca. (very informative)

    1. that’s a subject of another blog and will make a mental note to attend to it.

thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

      1. Donna Hughes says:

Hi Joette -You mentioned that you would attend to writing a blog about Granuloma Annulare back in 2014. I have a friend suffering with this condition. Is it possible that you have written about it and I just can’t find it? Thanks so much for your reply,.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Hi Donna, I’ve not written a blog about it but its included in my online course, Skin the Ugly Truth under fungal infections.

          1. Cathy P. says:

I was unable to find anything on GA in the Skin Course under fungal. Can you please give more detail on where to look?

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Look for something less broad such as where it’s located. Athlete’s foot is an example. Vaginal yeast infection is another.

          3. Cathy says:

Guess I have GA on brain, cause i’m still not finding it. I’m using AC, but not sure if that’s what course recommends.

          4. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I answer many questions so I’ve lost track of our discussion. Pls clarify what you’re looking for.

          5. Cathy says:

Oh, sorry!! 🙁 I know this was an older article. I was reading about Granuloma Annulare, response #29 on the Let Skin Be Our Guide article. You had mentioned to check the Skin Course under fungal. I had Skin Course, but I couldn’t find GA, so I asked for more detail. You had said to look for something “less broad”, but it still couldn’t find. Have been using Ant Crud 6c 2D, no results yet (7 weeks). Was trying to see if AC was right choice, but couldnt find in Skin Course.

          6. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Don’t think of the concern as a fungal infection and instead look for the area of the body that the “infection” resides. i.e. toenail infection, or vaginal infection, etc. “Fungal” infection is too broad.

  30. Chuck says:

I’m going to give this a try, have been dealing with it off and on for years. Thanks.

  31. Laura says:

Wonderful tips. My young daughter had ‘idiopathic eczema’ and all the medical community threw at me was steroid creams for years. It wasn’t until I met with a naturopath that we RESOLVED the underlying issue. Changed our lives!

It makes so much sense that repressing the symptoms will cause our bodies to detox in other, often more uncomfortable, ways. It is so empowering to learn about homeopathy from Joette and to know there is an alternative.

    1. So funny. Idopathic means unknown cause. Its a frank admission of an allopathic doctor not knowing the cause of eczema. Ridiculous! It would take a good homeopath, naturopath or chiropractor about 5 minutes of history taking to determine its origin.

‘Happy, but not suprised to hear that the naturopath got it.

    2. AnnieB says:

Laura, what did you use to resolve the eczema. I am fighting the same battle and am out of my mind with the rash and the itching. Thanks , Ann

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Annie, pls go to my article on eczema. It is clear how to approach this.

  32. Maggie says:

Wonderful article. Thanks for sharing it.

Just wondering – will these remedies help my keratosis pilaris (chicken skin)on my upper arms and thighs? And I also suffer from very chapped hands in the winter months (fingers split).

    1. Petroleum 200 is specific for chapped, split skin that is worse in the winter. if if helps keratosis pilaris it will be an unexpected, but lovely bonus.

      1. Kat says:

What would help with that specific condition? My baby just got it and I don’t want to use allopathic medicines….thank you!

        1. Diana Conner says:

Did anyone get an answer on keratosis pilaris remedy?

  33. Maggie says:

I’d like to try these remedies on my dry skin. Should I use Petroleum 200C or 200X and what is the difference? Many thanks.

  34. Petroleum c is the potency most often used for this protocol. however, if all i had was x, i’d use it and hope it would work in the same fashion.
200c means the remedy is dilute 200 times to the 100th power. 200x is when the remedy is diluted 200 times to the 10th power, so its a matter of dilution.

  35. Linda says:

Thank you Joette for being so generous to share your knowledge with us.
I have not been able to find a book about the Banerji protocols. Is there one available?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Feel free to call my office M-F 8:30-5 EST and someone will give you the email address of where you can purchase it.

      ‘A useful book.

  36. Linda says:

I am suddenly getting red, sore bumps around three different finger joints. Feels like something just under the skin, but chiro says it is bone inflammation/osteoparthritis. I have been taking calc fluor 12x and calc phos 6x as you directed for teeth for about 3 weeks – could this be triggering the bone inflammation?

  37. Nisha says:

Hi Joette. My 2 year old seems get eczema/dry dark itchy pacthes on her legs -back of thighs and knees and now spreading to front of thighs, knees, calf, upper arms, etc. They seem to make her uncomfortable first (even before i can see it on the skin), then in couple of days red patches appear, become dry and itchy and then ddark. I am just applying Nivea cream. I think it is due to Citrus food mainly tomatoes. What remedy can I try for her? I would appreciate your help. Regards

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Please see the blog I wrote on eczema by entering the word “eczema” in the search bar of the blog.

  38. Christy says:

Hi Joette! In the last year we have moved to a 3rd-world country, which is why I am more interested than ever to take more control over my family’s health. My teenage daughter has eczema, and I purchased Petroleum 200CK from Boiron as you suggested. Could you please clarify the dosage? The bottle I received says to take 5 pellets 3 times a day until the symptoms are relieved. Your article says Mary took a dose every three days for a few months. I am wondering if a “dose” is 5 pellets 3 times a day? Would my daughter do this every three days? Or is a dose one pellet every three days? I have limited availability to these pellets until I can get to the States again, and wish to make them last, but most importantly clear up her eczema. 🙂 I would appreciate your help! Thank you for educating us in these matters!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

A dose every 3 days means one dose every 3 days and the number of pills is indicated on the bottle. I can’t tell you how many pills equals a dose in my articles because I don’t know the pharmacy from whom you are purchasing them. Only they can tell you the number of pills that comprise a dose.

  39. Anna says:

A question, Joette. Are ALL topical creams as to put on rashes to help relieve them? Even natural ones with safe ingredients/oils? I just bought one that contains: olive fruit oil, castor seed oil, beeswax, roman chamomile flower oil, and calendula flower extract. Is it best to not apply this to my baby but rather wait it out then or I’ll be driving the problem further in? I will be grateful for your response to me!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Here’s my rule: If you feel comfortable to be able to lick your fingers with a good amount of the ointment on them after application, its probably ok to put on the skin.

I prefer coconut oil, lard, tallow, duck fat or unsalted butter.

      1. Anna says:

        Thank you! 🙂

  40. Jaime says:

I recently took an online quiz that told me that my seasonal allergies and urticaria are likely symptoms of leaky gut and that I should go on the GAPS diet. In your Allergic!? Course I learned about Calc carb for allergies and other remedies for hives, etc. Let’s just say that so called leaky gut really is causing these symptoms and certain remedies uproot the allergies and skin problems–does that mean that the remedies would have effectively healed the gut?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

CC will not likely heal the gut. You must use homeopathics that are specific to how the gut is behaving. I don’t use theory to determine whether someone has a condition. If there’s bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, etc, then we use those symptoms to choose a homeopathic along with the homeopathic for allergies. Otherwise, it sends someone down a rabbit hole of theoretic conclusions and superfluous methods when all that was needed was a few homeopathics. Homeopathy helps people get OFF of GAPS, not get on it.
      Such a more streamlined method.

      1. Jaime says:

I think that I understand that we don’t always need to know what causes the illness, just how the symptoms are presenting, to treat homeopathically. But I guess my question is, say someone’s acne or psoriasis or dairy intolerance, etc., is caused by leaky gut–or someone’s panic attacks and brain fog by adrenal fatigue–and they meet with you and take the remedies that you would recommend for their symptoms, then the underlying condition would be healed without them drinking tonics to nourish their adrenals or eliminating foods that are theorized to cause leaky gut? As I write this, I realize that this is what you’ve been saying all along, but the full impact is just hitting me! At a women’s meeting last night, I sat next to two women who couldn’t eat most of the meal being served because they had started the Autoimmune Paleo Diet to try to heal from various diseases, including hypothyroidism. Do you think they can be healed by this paleo-style diet detox alone? If they are healed, would their symptoms return after their diets returned to normal? Conversely, could homeopathy heal them without their making any change to their diet? Since pharmacuticals only mask or manage symptoms, it is difficult to grasp the idea that homeopathy does not also just mask symptoms. Are we wrongly becoming conditioned to believe that healing can only be achieved through major diet overhaul–not merely (and rightfully so) by giving up processed foods, but also legumes and dairy and grains and certain vegetables?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m on the Honorary Board of the Weston A. Price Foundation for about 9 years and have followed that method of eating for over 3o years and other strict diets for another 10 years before that. Diet is important but I find it often does not cure the problem. I actually wish it did but what I have found not only in my own health but in working with thousands, yes, thousands on the subject of diet, is that the less you allow yourself, the less that can be allowed. But this si not noted until after 2-3 years of these excrutiating diets have been striclty adhered to. And when they’re done, the person still can’t enjoy cheese, yogurt, raw milk,a piece of their child’s birthday cake. That is not what cure looks like.
Its not the raw materials going into the factory that are broken as much as the factory itself. The only way I know to correct a gut problem or a condition that may arise from such, is to uproot it with homeopathy. Correction is the emphasized word; not suppression of symptoms. So that the person will be able to eat anything after using the homeopathics for usually an extended period of time. For some, a few months. For others many.

I used to have 8 foods that I could eat. EIGHT. This lasted for years and put me at risk for a nervous breakdown. Not really, but it was a horrible existence. Now I travel the world regularly and eat airline food, hotel food, etc and never give it a thought. No more asthma, fatigue, obesity, anxiety, joint pain, et.c the only change I finally made was to count fully on homeopathy.

  42. Hi Joette … I can only find Antimonium Crudum in 6c … not 6x … I know c is more potent than x … just checking to see if it would be okay to use the 6c instead of the 6x … I’m still learning … thank you … I appreciate you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

6c and 6x are so close that they’re pretty much interchangeable.

  43. Lori says:

Joette, have you considered writing a post on keratosis pilaris? Most of my family suffer from this condition and I want to start on a remedy to help them. Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have written about it in detail in my course, Skin; The Ugly Truth.

      1. Andrea says:

Hi Joette, I have the same rash just all over my body. I do get it in the cold Winter and can’t sleep itching all night and the skin is really dry and tight. if I can’t find 6x should I buy 6c I really appreciated the info thanks.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Hi, my 6 years old daiughter has exzema and it seems to get worse every winter (starts in October). It seems to be rising, meaning it initially started on hernlegs and now has raised tonher shoulders. Are the remedies ok to give daily to children? Thank you kindly.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathic medicines may be used on pregnant women, newborns, children, adults, the elderly, dogs, cats, birds, etc.

  46. Georgia says:

Thanks joette for the reply. So would the remedies above work for my daughter? Yes, I’ve been using homeopathy for me and my kids for 10!years! I’m saving so I can take a course ..looking forward to it!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

WIthout taking your daughter’s case I can not tell you what is best for her. Even if you asked me to take her case, I still can’t tell you whether the medicine will act for her or not until it is used and observed.

  47. Shani Smith says:

I break into stress hives and also struggle with psoriasis. Dermalmd is the only psoriasis serum that has any effect on either and is tinted so it helps cover it a bit. it smells lovely, very natural and relaxing. I swear by this stuff!

  48. Melissa says:

What would you suggest for a petroleum allergy? 7 months ago I started breaking out and turning red all over my face and neck. We figured out it gets worse with any petroleum or petroleum by products.. pumping gas, breathing in air freshers or scentsy etc.. I’m so tired of this

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t make personal suggestions on this forum. Should you be interested in learning how to uproot Allergies feel free to check out my course titled “Allergic!”.

  49. Sharon McEntire says:

Hi Joette, can you supply a remedy for the little red dots (angiomas). Been looking but can’t find info on it on your site. Thanks!

  50. Lexa says:

Hi, so my uncle asked me about muscle steroids and I’d the like regular steroids are bad for people? Specifically an old one called Methyl test but I could t answer his question but I figured you’d know more about that and have maybe seen what happens when people use them cause I would thing that homeopathy can reverse stuff that steroids have done whether antibiotic steroids or muscle ones.

  51. Lexa says:

A simpler way of asking that would be, lol, uh, so my uncle asked me about what you say about muscle steroids. I told him what you say about antibiotic kind of steroids but wondered what your thoughts are on muscle steroids.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There is a place for conventional drugs: As a last resort, when required for life-threatening events, surrounding surgery, and perhaps a few more but not many. When there’s a non-toxic alternative, which is in my opinion, homeopathy I have a difficult time justifying something that has the propensity for and often an established history of causing harm in the long run.

Unfortunately, conventional medical doctors have been trained to approach illness/conditions in no other way than with drugs, surgery or burning, so when/if asked if there’s an alternative that might be as effective (often much more so), their answer is a resounding “no”. And there you have it. This is why so many believe that another method would not be efficacious; because they simply don’t know about it. This then morphs into the thinking that their drugs are not harmful.
And we, as their charge are trained dutifully… next down the line of such thinking.

  52. Berh says:

Have you done any articles on Lichen Sclerosis? I can’t seem to find anything that works besides maintaining with Clobetasol Propionate and I would like to get away from using that. Thanks..

  53. Teri says:

My husband’s hands and feet keep cracking hes use the petroleum, stop using it, used it again I having no luck with this remedy what else could he try?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are tens of homeopathic medicines for cracking skin conditions to consider. I distill as much as I can down to the most likely ones. Should you be interested, I offer an on-line course titled Skin; the Ugly Truth. Or you may use a repertory to look up the possibilities.

  54. Pam says:

    Hi Joette!
This remedy is fantastic as I have used it on my husbands cracking hands as well as two of his friends with great results. I have been searching and looking without success on what might help porokeratosis? They are small red patches all over my best friends skin. She spends thousands of dollars on creams and ointments and is very self conscious about them. Do you think petroleum or graphites would be a good place to start?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You might want to look it up in a repertory or should you be interested in my course titled Skin; the Ugly Truth, I cover this condition.

      1. Amy says:

My toddler has a red, rough/raised (with crusty parts)rash on on one cheek mainly. I’ve been searching, and all I’m finding on your site is on eczema and itchy rashes. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her that way. PA said it was probably viral, and let it run it’s course…is there something I’m missing when I’m searching? I feel like I’m hitting dead ends…

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If its a short-lived condition resulting from a recent infection, I agree it should indeed be allowed to run its course without concern. However, if it becomes a chronic condition, skin conditions are more involved and certain skills need to be accumulated before commencing. This is why I present courses specific to the conditions. Should you be interested, “Skin, the Ugly Truth” is my on-line course that addresses this level of prescribing.

  55. Marni says:

What is a good remedy to try if someone has chronic keratosis pilaris on the body and face, presenting as rough skin on arms and other areas, and KPRF (KP bumps and flushing / redness) on cheeks?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I cover this condition in my online course, Skin the Ugly Truth and teach how to use the medicines properly.

      1. Marni says:

I appreciate the reply. I am going to take the course.
Can you give the url or title of your blog post that you did on eczema? You mentioned it in another blog, but I couldn’t find it. Thanks much!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

In your browser, key in my name and eczema.

          1. Marni says:

Yes, I had done that in google. What comes up are blog posts: Let the Skin Be Our Guide, What to Expect when using Homeopathy Part 3, and I was an Itchy Little Girl (such a fascinating read). Also a couple of podcasts and a couple of broken links. Anyway, I thought there may be a section dedicated to specifically time zema. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. I am looking forward to beginning some of your courses in the next couple of weeks. I am ready to dive right in! Thank you very much for making this available, Joette. You are a GEM!

  56. Marni says:

Correction: a section dedicated specifically to eczema.

  57. Erica says:

At 71 years old, I have battled with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for decades. It seems to run in my family. Mother and brother had it. Daughter and granddaughter have it. I have lost and replaced 2 joints already and don’t want my family to face this. Does your skin course cover arthritis? I would love to help them uproot the illness before it destroys their bodies.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      yes

  58. Erica says:

This is Erica again. I actually meant “Does your skin course cover psoriasis?”

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      yes.

  59. Tiariana says:

Hi Joette 🙂 thank you so much for all these helpful blogs u write! I used petroleum many months to improve my skin which is in winter times extremely dry and cracked. Now its winter again and i see that this remedy did not work for me at all. Is there another protocol for this same problem? Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙂

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

If one uses a medicine at the time the condition presents, and after weeks of its use there is no improvement a 2nd medicine ought to be commenced.
If it’s important enough to you, you might want to consider my online course “Skin the Ugly Truth” where I teach how to move to the 2nd or 3rd choices. It can be found here Courses.JoetteCalabrese.com.

  60. Tiariana says:

Thank you for the reply 🙂 yes, im seriously planning to take multiple of those courses, as soon as i can stretch my budget to that! (I wish homeopathy could help with poverty issues… but i guess i need to find other solution for that 😀 )

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Consider joining one of my online study groups,
      Gateway to Homeopathy,
      https://studygroups.joettecalabrese.com/
and when they construct a group purchase (which happens on a regular basis) you’ll get a substantial and I mean SUBSTANTIAl discount on any of my courses.

  61. Edina says:

    Hello Joette,

Just wanted to confirm that ant crud is 6x in the article, not 6c. Correct? I’m not finding this remedy in 6x. We have tried 6c and 200c for itching with no effect. Thank you

  62. Silky Chan says:

The article says petroleum 200 but the link is to petroleum 30c. Which potency is recommended?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

The links sometimes get corrupted. The article is correct.

  63. Amy P says:

I had been giving my baby the cradle cap protocol for a few weeks. Then paused for a couple weeks. Sometime in that time she developed red wet rashes in folds of skin. Then it spread onto torso and arms/legs. Talking to others, I am now treating it with the itchy skin protocol Arsenicum and ant crudum. It dawned on me recently that was what she was getting for the cradle cap! Why would the rash on her body appear after I had been giving the remedies for cradle cap?

    1. Amy P says:

She is worse when it’s time to give the protocol, which seems like a good sign. I will continue! Really difficult knowing it might take a bit to clear up, and not seeing results yet! Trying Chamomilla for the irritability.

  64. Amy P says:

Also, can the arsenicum and antimonium crudum be given more than 2D? Baby is super itchy and can’t sleep.
