Can you think of anything worse than the thought of pinworms?  Because pinworms are a common childhood infection, regrettably, they're prevalent  in schools, too.

Consider this your first lesson in homeopathy.

Homeopathy is a method of medicine that has the gentle and powerful ability to deal with easily spread infections, such as pin worms and colds.

Let’s look at two homeopathic remedies that have a reputation of protecting teachers (and students) who’ve been exposed to these common childhood sicknesses.

When the classroom epidemic is pinworms, there is a great little remedy that is reputed to be just as powerful, not only to eliminate them, but which can be used as a prophylactic.

(Remember, the alternative is not a pleasant one. Conventional medicine will suggest a medicine that is a vermicide.  The suffix “cide” means to kill.  This means that the active ingredient is a pesticide of sorts, which kills the worms. We want to get rid of the worms, but not at the expense of harming the body with a vermicide.)

Instead, the remedy Cina creates an unfriendly environment so that the worms will expel themselves.  Cina tincture can be used by taking 6 drops in water, then sipping the water throughout the day for 15 days in a row.  It should be repeated one month later in the same manner. This is the advice of practicing homeopaths of India where this kind of infestations is even more prevalent than in the U.S.

Homeopathy has helped many teachers from getting contaminated with this insidious infection even when nearly the entire class is affected.

For colds, my favorite remedy for our family is Oscillococcinum.  In France, it is the top selling, over-the-counter medicine of any kind.  They use it as the premiere remedy to abort a cold or flu before it comes on or before it comes on in full force.  The French take it as a preventative as soon as the first student begins to sniffle and then one day each week for a month, then one day each month until the cold season is over.

Plenty of other Europeans and Americans use it too.

That’s because the protection it offers can be significant, as long as it’s taken before the symptoms get a foothold.  Oscillococcinum is reputed to be particularly valuable when the colds and flu’s come about during the wet and cold seasons, such as autumn and spring.  Some say it’s infallible.

All of these remedies are available at health food stores and many pharmacies and will cost no more than $15.  Additionally, homeopathy will not interfere with any meds you may already be taking.

If you find that your health is too often plagued by the latest illness in school, give homeopathy a try.  It may even become the discovery you innovate in your next science class.

Pinworms and Colds; Who Needs Them? Protect Yourself, Teachers is solely intended to provide a format in assisting the student in learning the principles of Homeopathy.   It is in no way to be considered a substitute for a consultation with a health professional.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  1. Pam says:

My son used oscillococcinum (now that’s a word for a spelling bee!) while in his military technical school, determined not to get set back due to illness. It worked.

  2. momawake says:

My question about Oscillo is how much to take. The directions say to take the whole vial. Is that really necessary? Would a couple little pills work just as well?

    1. It’s unnecessary to take the whole vial. Instead, 4 pills is one dose.

      1. Cynthia says:

Do you follow the one dose every 6 hours as suggested on the vial or do you do something different?

        1. It’s recommended to take 1 whole unit every 6 hours until your symptoms have significantly improved.

  3. Sarah says:

Hope I won’t be needing Cina this year, but great to have this information..

  4. Maggie says:

So good to know…pinworms creep me out. I have to pick up some Oscillococcinum this year too. Thanks for the great info.

  5. Natalie says:

I’ve never tried Oscillo for a cold… thanks for the info!

  6. Kim says:

Do you repeat Cina one month later from the beginning of the 15 day regimen or one month later from the end of the 15 day regimen?

    1. Rachel Ferrell says:

Please could you answer this question, Joette? Sorry if I missed the info elsewhere! Thank you!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

        What is your question?

  7. Emily says:

I’ve just found this post! What potency of cina would you use? Thank you x

  8. Ludovica says:

Hi Joette, my 7 years son has pinworms, that didn’t go away with vermifuges. I would like to use Cina, but I can only find it in 30 CH instead of tincture. Can I substitute it? Which is the dose and the way to assume it? Can I give it to my littlest (1 year and a half) as well? Thanks!

  9. Sherri says:

I too have the question about the potency of Cina. I only have 3c. Would it work to take that once a day for the regimen recommended? Or just put that in the water and sip all day?

  10. dawn says:

I am just wondering what potency for Cina would be most effective in this case? Thank you!

  11. Jackie says:

Thanks for this info! Can you clarify the questions above about dosage? Should it be repeated 1month from the start date or 1 month from the end of the 15 day period?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

One month from the last dose.

      1. Jackie says:

Thank you! I have Cina 12C on hand. Would that work in place of the tincture? Should I dry dose or add to water and sip a couple times a day?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you hope for results that I have come to expect, I urge my students to use the exact protocol that I teach that includes potencies.

I have found that regardless of dry or wet, the remedy acts.

          1. Jackie says:

Thanks, I had a feeling you would say that. My impatience is surfacing! Should I use 6x 2D per banerji protocol or the liquid dilution in water as you state in your post above? OHM carries both potencies…..

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I find that both of these potencies work well.

  12. Jackie says:

Thank you so much!!! I appreciate the response 🙂

  13. N. Boyd says:

Where do you purchase cina tincture? Can it be made at home using dry remedies? And what would be the best dry remedy potency if a tincture is not available? Our family is staying with friends for the holidays and their youngest has pinworms. Six children and five adults under one roof… We are on an island, so finding the tincture could be difficult.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Tincture is pretty difficult to get children to take so sometimes its best to just use it in potency, such as 3 or 6.

  14. Lynette says:

Will cina work for all parasites in general or just pinworm?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Cina has a reputation for acting against all parasites.

  15. Natalie says:

Above you mention how Oscillo can be used as a cold/flu preventer. Can Cina be used for the prevention of parasites? If so, then what would the protocol be for prevention?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I would not use Cina as a preventive.

  16. Tahera says:

    Hi
My two pigeons have worms in their droppings, small ,rice like things , my homeopath gave cina 3x. . Will this work ? I am very worried , vets are suggesting high potency worming meds that can kill the pigeons if they don’t tolerate it .

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It sounds to me like your homeopath knows what he/she’s talking about.

    2. Susan says:

How did you pigeons do? Did they overcome the pinworms with Cina? tia

  17. Marie says:

My niece has pinworms currently and supposedly 4 months ago as well. My daughter is around her but showing no signs of them as of yet (exposed 3 weeks ago). It takes 4-6weeks to show up. Can I give her Cina now to prevent/expel them before they start laying eggs? What potency for a 6yo (cannot find the tincture)? And can I do pellets under the tongue? Thank you so much!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The potency for a 6 year old for any homeopathics is the same as for an adult. I don’t often suggest using homeopathy prophylactically but when it comes to pin worms, I make the exception. You can probably find it in 3 or 6x on Amazon.

  18. Jaime Jo Fisher says:

Joette, If taking Cina 6x (dry form) for pinworms is it one dose per day? 3 times a day? Every so many hours? And for 15 days, correct? Then beginning same dosing in one month from last does from what it sounds like above. I just want to clarify how many doses per day of Cina 6x. Thanks so much for your time, expertise and sharing your passion with the world, Joette.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Cina 6x is usually taken twice daily for 2.5 months.

  19. barb says:

joette I believe I have ring worm ive been taking sulphur 200 mixed with arsenicum 200 ive been taking it for about 5 days it started out as 2 spots next to each other now it looks like one big one im not sure how long to keep taking it or if I should try something else any suggestions or does it take awhile

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I cover ringworm in full in my on line course, Skin, the Ugly Truth. Should you be interested, check out http://www.courses.joetecalabrese.com.

  20. barb says:

ok thanks ill check it out so far its still there but it seems to be fading but not gone yet

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      That’s how we gain health.

  21. Barb says:

I love you joette u give me confidence to learn and keep on keeping on I’ve been at it for about 3 yrs and have healed many things thank u!!!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

How lovely of you to say! Think of how much you will learn in the future as your knowledge increases. Keep going!

  22. Martina says:

In the Cell Salt document, it says 20 drops of Cina 2xd for 30 days. Why the difference?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      Pls send me the reference.

  23. Trying to treat myself and my 6 yr old for pinworms. Thankfully no one else has so far shown signs of them. Hoping you can answer two questions. I read in a comment you said you make the exception to treat the whole family even without signs of pinworms. It’s been 2.5 weeks and since my 6 yr old noticed them on a full moon. We treated with Cina 30c for 3 days and when he felt itchy. They seem to be still there. I’m looking to order the Cina tincture but it is a 6x potency, is that the same as the dry 6x? Both seems to have different amounts to be taken, the dry for 2.5 months I read in a comment. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Cina is taken for at least 2 plus months. Use the number of pills or drops as per what is indicated on the bottle.

  24. Thank you! Having a hard time locating the cina tincture local. Was also confused because online the tincture is 6x where the dry is 6c. Would placing once 6c in water and sipping all day have the same effect as the tincture?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

A tincture is usually in alcohol and is not homeopathic. Once you see a number after the name it means its homeopathic. Any of these will likely act but it should be taken 2x/day, not sipped throughout the day.

      1. Shaylynne says:

Hi Joette, I think people are confused as this article (an older one) states to put it in water and sip it throughout the day. Just as a head’s up!

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Thanks Shaylynne. Given that I’m discussing a tincture, it can indeed be sipped throughout the day.

  25. Sally says:

Thanks for that last comment Joette! I have been so confused why the cina 6c did not work for some of my kids and myself and now I see your message about tinctures. Sigh… It’s been a long journey through the alternative health maze and I’m on board now with homeopathy but I have made tinctures in my recent past and in fact have a bottle of wormwood tincture in my cubboard. Is the homemade stuff the same as “Cina tincture with the mother”?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, it’s the same but be careful because tincture of wormwood is very potent. Additionally, I’ve used Cina 3 as well as 6 and have not found them wanting as long as they’re used consistently for a few months. If there’s still no improvement, I move to other homeopathics known for this condition. You may find that one person needs Cina MT while another might require a different potency or a completely different medicine.

  26. Jasmine says:

Hi, ive been battling my 5 year olds pin worms for almost three years now. Stumbled across this site. I want to try the Cina remedy but would like to clarify which product to use. There are three Boiron products available to me. Cina 6C, Cina 30C, Cina 200CK. Which one and what dose is appropriate? Can the same remedy be used for my 15 month old and myself even though I am still nursing? Thanks so very much for your input. I would like to finally come to the end of this nightmare

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In the article, I mention Cina mother tincture which is in the alcohol form but Cina 6c is just as effective. Its used for all ages, during pregnancy and lactation.

  27. Areta says:

I was seeing on another site that the Banerji protocol for pinworms is Cina 6c 2 times a day and teucrium 200c twice a day. Both for 3 1/2 months. Take Camphor 200 only once and one day before starting. Is this the protocol or is just taking Cina 6x twice a day for 3 months the protocol? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve used both methods and have found them effective.

  28. Jaz says:

Hi Josie, the Boiron 6C dosing says 5 pellets 3x a day. Since my girls are at school during the day it would be challenging to get the three doses in. Can you recommend how I can do this with 2 doses? Should I increase the number of pellets, maybe 7 in the morning and 7 in the evening? Also, can/should I do conventional medicine (pyrantel pamoate) along side of this? My daughter constantly gets pinworms and the only thing that seems to “prevent” it is if I give her a monthly doses of the pyrantel which I don’t want to do forever. Also, she only ever gets these vaginally. I’ve brought this up with her pediatrician and they just tell me it’s not possible. Any thoughts on this? I know this because she is so sensitive and I have to actually remove the worm(s) in the middle of the night when she’s thrashing about and can’t sleep. Thanks for your help

  29. Rachel Ferrell says:

Just got mother tincture of Cina in the mail. I found it on ebay from India. My daughter and I started treatment today. So do we repeat the 15 days on Sept 14 (1 month from start date) or Sept 29 (1 month from end date)? Thank you! Also, I noticed feeling somewhat itchier all over today… is this a die off thing already happening or just coincidence?

  30. Linda says:

For an adult with a persistent history of pinworms (since childhood), would it be better to dose with the mother tincture on a repeated basis, or to dose with the 6 potency over a longer period of time?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The amount of time someone has had the condition doesn’t generally come into play regarding the choice of potency. Across the board, I’ve found that this medicine acts best when potentized and I prefer 6x.
Having said this, if over a period of at least 3 months there’s no significant improvement, a change in potency may be in order.

  31. Nicole says:

I only have 30c pellets available. Will these be effective for a 10, 8, 6, 4, and 16 month old? What dosage/time frame.

  32. Dmom says:

How would I know the Cina is working for my children? Are they supposed to be expelling worms? Would increased worm activity mean it’s working or not? Thank you for all this advice. This blog is very informative and helpful!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Any time you use a homeopathic medicine, you use your observation skills to determine how a person is progressing. This means you watch symptoms become less prominent and frequent over time. You may also have them tested by a conventional doctor.

  33. Lisa says:

Hello, after reading through the comments I would just like to clarify. I have 6c cina for my family who is infected. I would give this 2x a day for 15’days, then a month later do the 15 days again? And I give it orally, not in the water to be sipped? The sipping sounds like it is just for the tincture…thank you for your time and clarification.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, sipping is the method when using a tincture. And yes you’ve got the timing correct.

  34. Holly says:

Is the duration 2.5 months or 15 days on and a month later 15 days again like the comment above? Both seem to be recommended. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are many ways to address this concern.

  35. Heidi says:

My son now 8 has had pinworms since he was 2. I have tried vermox, and pyrantel. Now my daughter has it too in the vagina as well,it is horrible.
None of my other children have it, should I treat everyone?
Cina 6c, 5 under the tongue, 2 times a day, for 15 days, then again one month later.
And if they’re still infected do same dose again but for 21/2 months?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When an infestation is severe, we usually use more intensified measures. Pinworms are highly contagious and often not noticeable in all members of a family. The method is to treat everyone in one family and it may need to be used over a period of many months or until its obvious that all is clear.

      1. Madde says:

What would the more intensive measures be? My family is suffering as well

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

“The method is to treat everyone in one family and it may need to be used over a period of many months or until its obvious that all is clear.”

  36. Areta says:

I am looking to order the Cina tincture. Does each person in the family have their own glass of water of 6 drops per day? How much water added to the 6 drops? Should each family member drink every bit of the water each day? Empty stomach? The direction on the website I am looking at says to us 3-6 drops of the tincture in half cup of water 3 times a day. We have been battling pinworms for 3 years and cina in 6, 30, or 200 have never helped. I am just now seeing about the tincture and want to give it a go. Thank you.

    1. Areta says:

To clarify, the website I am talking about is the website to order the tincture. That company has listed instructions.

  37. sangrita says:

The protocol for WORMS in the additional Banerji protocol book, states Cina 200c 2D. but the remedy for PARASITES is Cina 6 2D and Teucrium Marum 200c 2D. What’s the difference? is Cina 200 more effective than Cina 6? for a chronic condition? or are these used for different conditions?

  38. Debbie says:

I’ve read in other posts about dissolving 4 pellets in 4 oz of water and using 1 tsp as a dose. Would this work for cina 6x as well? I’m trying to find the most cost effective/efficient way of dosing multiple people at once. Thank you

  39. Heleena says:

    Hello,
My rabbit has pinworms. I was wondering, could use cina for him?
    Thanks!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

Homeopathic medicines are used in the same way for animals as for humans as long as they’re potentized. That is; not in alcohol tincture.
