Get Back in the Game: Hernias and Homeopathy

“I thought hernias could only be eliminated with surgery! You mean your hernia is gone from taking homeopathic remedies?”

Marcus was unconvinced.

Yet his squash partner, David, was indeed better.

And he had to admit, the bump was gone when only last week their game had been canceled because of it.

Even David’s doctor acknowledged the recovery. But not after re-reading the chart.

Only months before the hernia, David had surgery for his torn meniscus and suffered relentless nausea and headaches from the anesthetic, so when the inguinal hernia made an appearance, he opted for another way.

His wife had been using a homeopath for their children for years, so he thought he’d give it a whirl, only half believing it could help.

The homeopath explained that she had seen many hernias such as his and that sometimes the remedy resolved the difficulty in short order; sometimes it only aided the pain. David’s hernia wasn’t painful, so he hoped that was a good sign.

She also explained that although he was on blood pressure medications, the homeopathic remedy would not interfere with the meds or his blood pressure.

Homeopathy also has a reputation for being non-addictive and without any side effects.

This was more than what David bargained for, but when she told him the cost of the little pills was $15, it seemed too good to be true.

The remedy the homeopath suggested was Lycopodium, but she said it wasn’t the only one they might work with.

Part of her decision to use it was also based on the fact that David suffered from bloating any time he ate rich foods.

He asked if this would be resolved too. “It’s likely to be the first issue to be relieved,” was her answer.

“If that’s so, I guess this must be why my wife and family have been so adamant about me making this appointment.”

The very next day after taking the remedy, David’s mom made homemade strawberry ice cream (his favorite), and instead of the usual swelling and belching, he was quite comfortable after eating a bowl.

In fact, he went back for seconds — and admittedly thirds when no one was looking — but no bloating. Only half-heartedly, he thought, “If this is all I can get out of this remedy, I’ll be happy.”

Yet a few days after his ice cream binge, he noticed his hernia was smaller.

And a week after that it was gone! How’d it get back in there?

But he really didn’t care. It was enough to know he didn’t need surgery.

Homeopathy has a reputation throughout the world for addressing diseases that are considered only surgical cases, only with a simpler, safer, more inexpensive method.

Homeopathy is the medicine of the future. And it has another convert in David.

His squash partner, too.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Amazing what our body can do to help strengthen its own vital force when prompted with just the right remedy! We have an awesome Creator who weaved us together perfectly and gave us the tools to mend naturally! For this I am totally grateful for!! Thank you Joette for this reminder!

  2. Anne Marie says:

Thanks for sharing. I’m encouraged that the remedy I’m taking has success. I suffer from a umbilical cord one as a result of my pregnancies. The doctor wanted to perform a c-section after my last pregnancy just to fix it. I said no thanks. I discovered the remedy above and have given it to my toddler son. My son’s (for his umbilical cord) after a week is almost completely gone. Mine is slower in coming, but the other pregnancy related issues I was suffering have much improved. Praising God surgery is not a requirement.

    1. lisa says:

I have a hernia as well from multiple back to back pregnancys. I have to ask, is the remedy above working for you? What is your potency and how many doses do you take a day? I get the bloating as well after eating, not only rich foods but all foods. I wonder if this will work for me. Thanks!

  3. roxanne says:

hi there! thanks a mil! going to try this! i got a hernia in 2006 picking up my daughter.. almost had surgery here in the uk a few years later but they said my iron was too low. although that is up, i’ve been too chicken to go in and do it. can you offer what stregnth you used, and how often? would so appreciate that!! i also have a gut that sticks out when i eat anything at all..

    1. most folks use Lycopodium 200c every other day and find that one dose on that day can be counted on to get it moving in the right direction. as with many homeopathic remedies, the rule is to stop when there is significant improvement and take it up again if it needs repetition.

  4. mamaverse says:

Great story! More people need to hear this!

  5. Sandy Schrecengost says:

In that I been told I ‘need’ surgery to heal a few tears in my shoulder, I’m curious, what is the science behind this hernia healing? I believe-oh do I believe, but please, can you help us know the why?

    1. Denise says:

I’d love to know how it works also. Thanks, Joette.

    2. a good way to get an expanded understanding of how a remedy works is to read a good materia medica such as “Concordant Materia Medica” by Frans Vermeulen and read the remedy in question. in general, a remedy works by stimulating the mechanism that puts homeostasis back into order. whether its for an infection, a headache, a muscle pull or anxiety, the mechanism is the same.

consider clicking on “resources” on this site and then on “free downloads”. unfortunately, the only way to get the info, is to give your email address, but there is listing of studies in that section that we add to regularly. some of the articles, as i recall include the way homeopathy works. ‘hope this helps.

  6. Mary says:

I also would like to know the strength and dosage. My mother was just telling me last week about a hernia she has. She has an immune disorder as well as some other issues that I suspect make her doctor reluctant to suggest surgery. I also suspect that my six-year-old has a hernia. I have noticed a lump on occasion when she gets out of the bath. I had one at that age and had surgery. I am wondering if this could be inherited? If so, would this particular remedy still be likely to work? I would love to avoid the surgical route if at all possible.

  7. Bridget says:

Wow, I had no idea this could work on things of this nature! I love this stuff! My so. Has a small abdominal hernia from coughing. This popped out when he was @ 3. Now 9 and its still there, are there more than just Lyc and what strength would u recommend for how long. Thank you so much for showing us how to care for our families drug free!!!!

  8. Lorna says:

    Thanks Joette!

  9. anne says:

    thankyou for this mail
I am also interested if this would help to gain more strengh in my adomin after reducing in weight instead of surgery to remove extra flab looking forward to your answer

    1. my understanding for the use of LYcopdoium has more to do with pathological weakness rather than strength increasing ability.

  10. Skepticat_UK says:

How do sugar pills fix a hernia? Come on, you must know about the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. The only people who will be persuaded by this anecdote are people who want to believe in faith-based therapies in the first place. Homeopathy doesn’t stand up to scientific scrutiny and the totality of evidence available to us reveal it to be a total crock.

Shame on you for promoting this nonsense.

    1. Shame on you for not doing your homework. the evidence is astounding and is available on this very site. But I’m not here to persuade you. Prove that they DON’T work, instead of asking those of us who have been aided for decades with the use of homeopathy to consider your silly points. Here in the U.S. you’re innocent until proven guilty. prove your point, wiseguy. we indeed may be unhappy with our FDA, but they are not complete idiots. prove to me that they too are apart of your implied shame. go somewhere else and blabber on another blog.

      1. Lynne says:

ha haa, well said Joette, he is a fool, living in a fools paradise

    2. Debbie says:

Then, I wonder how it worked for my dog who pulled her collar off when getting stuck under my chair. She tore the collar which left her in a lot of pain. I gave her arnica for a couple days, but saw her eyes sparkle even by the next morning.
And, you should read the blog on Joette’s dog.

    3. Caro says:

If you do not believe and have no evidence nor experience with homeopathy, please stay out of this conversation. Obviously, you have no idea of what homeopathy is nor what it can do. Shame on you for being so ignorant. Many of us have used homeopathy for decades and it has worked better than medicine that causes side effects. There are decades and decades and decades of success.

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

        You go girl!

    4. Janice Burlet says:

Convince a pet or even a large pet of your nonsensical deduction! It is a marvel to vets who use homoeopathic remedies for centuries now and so far none of these critters speak or have faith! Get with the program and you too will be amazed the science behind this magnificent blessing to mankind without side effects too!

    5. Antonia says:

Well, when my aunt was having problems I hesitatingly suggested to my uncle that he pick up Rescue Remedy for her when he went into town. He laughed, “I thought that was only for horses!” He raised and raced horses and knew and used this remedy often.

    6. Dee says:

Then tell me how it’s healed our animals and babies who have no idea they had any homeopathy given to them? Just 1 example for our family, a dog’s ruptured knee was healed in just over 3 weeks. No surgery needed and he was pain free the entire time. You are a deceiver! Homeopathy has a successful history of over 200 yrs. Lots of proofs online for those who take the time to research. Hope you lose your job as a pharma shill soon.

    7. Karin Sheldon says:

If they are placebos how do you explain that antibiotics did not help my dog at all but homeopathic remedies cured him?

  11. Natalie says:

Sugar pills? Not just. Tell that to my RN husband who was completely skeptical of homeopathy helping his ganglion cysts, when NO other medical procedure had worked… Within three days of taking several doses of ruta 200c, the large cysts which had been plaguing him for months completely resolved – and have not returned, despite his rigorous physical training/use of his wrists. He said, “I can’t believe it… it’s totally remarkable…!” He also found himself recommending arnica 200c after wisdom teeth extractions, after he’d taken it for his own surgery – he never had any bruising or swelling, slept on his face that night, and was playing hockey, chin-strap-mask and all, the next day. Both of these instances are but two of the many times I’ve recommended he take it for something, and despite his own skepticism over the years, he’s seen it work SO MANY TIMES – even on our cat and small infants, who absolutely could not be affected by “faith-based therapies” – that he completely believes in its efficacy. Often the relief for the children is practically instantaneous. Fever, screaming, teething pain, migraine headaches (one for my dad, who also didn’t believe that it could work like that, but then said, “What was that stuff you gave me? It’s only been 30 minutes and I feel so much better!”)… all better so very quickly with just a dose or two.

    1. Sally_Oh says:

Can you share your protocol with the ruta 200c? My sister has a large ganglion cyst and I think she would try this. Thank you!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I plan to write about cysts in the near future.

  12. Amy S. says:

To Skepticat: The science IS there–you are reading the wrong stuff. Besides, these “sugar pills” also work on babies, animals, and coma patients; none of which are subject to the placebo effect. My skeptical husband is also a believer, after experiencing several remarkable recoveries himself.

  13. Beth says:

Amen to all the testimonies and esp. to Christine’s reply! I don’t understand homeopathy completely but have heard over & over of it’s efficacy. Def worth a try, just keep in mind that it may take a while to find the right remedy.

  14. ra thompson says:

my husband has a low hernia (bottom part of his stomach)..pain and nausea..does he follow this same protocol with the Lycopodium?…or another product?..any insight/help you can offer will be much appreciated..please reply to my email as I don’t receive followups on comments on blogs?…no idea how to activate that feature or how to find the original blogs/articles??..Thanks again..I devour your emails/blog articles..so fascinating to me..

    1. joette says:

i can’t tell you which remedy you ought to use, but Lycopodium is the remedy reputed for most hernias.

      1. Janice Burlet says:

Thanks Joette you are blessed to be a blessing to many!

  15. Ajmal Khan says:

I am DHMS(homeopathy)is it right to prescribe homeopathic remedy only on patholigical base? Please reply me.

  16. homeopathy can work on the constitutional level as well as pathology specific and even organ specific methodology.

  17. Shana Tova says:

Where you find $ worshiped, you’ll find human sacrifice.
Where you find human sacrifice, you can “follow the money” to where it is worshiped.
Unfortunately, $ is involved in nearly everything, including the BBC. Its “documentary” that “disproves homeopathy once-and-for-all” is loaded with errors that are never pointed out to the public. Folks who would like to imagine themselves “well-educated” after watching it are duped into believing the magician who had a million to lose, and ignore the fact that magnets (what magician doesn’t have one in his pocket?) easily spoil homeopathic remedies. Beyond that, we don’t know what the laser equipment itself that was used to “test” the remedies did to them.
It’s OK not to know everything. A doctor who readily admits that he isn’t an omniscient god is most trustworthy.

  18. Marilia says:

Shame on you, Mr. Skepticat. Shut up, please!

  19. dscirica says:

Would this work on a hiatal hernia?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have no experience in using it in that fashion. But since Lycopodium is gastro- intestinal specific it might prove useful in that setting.

  20. Wendy says:

    Joette,
My husband has an inguinal hernia. Will Lycopodium 200c every other day be the remedy to use? How soon should he see results before trying something else?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t say what would be the best choice for your husband, but Lycopodium 200 mixed with Plumbum 200 taken twice daily works like magic for 2 members of my family. This is a Banerji Protocol and I’ve also witnessed that it acted well in patients in the clinic. I’d be interested in learning what you decide and how it acts.

      1. Linda says:

Which Plumbum 200, is it Plumbum Metallicum or Plumbum Iodata? My husband would like to use this for his inguinal hernia.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

          Its Plumbum Met.

      2. Wendy says:

My husband has been using Lycopodium 200 mixed wtih Plumbum 200 2x day for over 13 weeks. The hernia hasn’t gotten better, but it hasn’t gotten any worse either. Having said that I must add that he ran out of the remedy at about week 10 and was without for 3 days. He said he noticed it getting worse. He got the remedy and started up again. Should he continue even though there isn’t any improvement? He doesn’t want to quit taking it for fear that it will get worse, but if it’s the wrong remedy we don’t want it to cause harm either.
You always say that it’s not that the remedy didn’t work, but it was an ill chosen remedy. Is there a different remedy that he should try?

        1. Christina says:

Hello Wendy, was he taking the lycopodium twice every day or once every other day?

Hi Joette, when you said ‘lycoodium 200 mixed with plumbum 200 twice daily’’ do you mean to take the lycopodium twice a day (not every other day?) if it’s an inguinal hernia? (Sorry, asking as I was confused where it says ‘mixed’ in the comment….:) )

        2. Manfred S. says:

Wendy, as i see your husband took quite a lot of lyc. and plumbum. i wouldnt take more. its possible that he would slip into a proving, means developing new symptoms.

      3. joann jordan orloff says:

Joette, husband gets excruciating pain now and again from inguinal hernia and trying to avoid surgery! Is this remedy to be taken every day or EOD?

  21. Bakhtawar says:

Lycopodium and Plumbum specially in such high potency cannot be repeated in such a jiffy your hurried approach will make things worst for your husband specially lycopodium 200 contains aluminum and it cannot be repeated like that infact i am sure that you have overdosed these medicines first you need to give lycopodium in 30 potency just one time to lower the effect of overdose then wait for seven days then give plumbum 30 c wait for seven days again later give Nux-Vomica 200 single dose and watch for 7-14 days your huband problem would be settleted by grace of God .

    1. Stephanie says:

Bakhtawar – You are talking about material doses of Lycopodium. Lycopodium 200C no longer contains material doses of any of its original physical components. It works purely on an energetic/vibrational level. There is no danger of material overdose of Aluminum or any other component. At worst, the patient (user) could suffer an aggravation, which is quickly reversible with the application of the correct antidote.

  22. Marie says:

Can you use this remedy (Lycopodium 200) when you are pregnant? I am 13 weeks and suffering from a painful umbilical hernia. Thank you

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have not used it for someone who is pregnant, but I know many homeopaths who have.

    2. myakrasia says:

I am a certified Homoeopath and I can tell you one thing, repetition of a remedy like Lycopodium this frequently is DANGEROUS, not recommended. A better remedy for Umbilical Hernia is Nux Vomica 1M and its results are amazing in all kinds of Hernias. And it can be repeated. Take 3 doses 10 minutes apart first day, then as you improve take it every 3 days at bedtime. A remedy make do wonders for someone’s particular case, but repeating it without knowing its background can be dangerous. It can affect your unborn child in ways you havent anticipated. I know the Author means well.

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In my 30+ years of homeopathy, I have not found this to be dangerous and instead quite useful. Danger occurs when the remedy is poorly chosen and repeated nonetheless.

        1. myakrasia says:

Lycopodium is a very deep acting remedy I’m sure you are aware of that. “repetition of a remedy like Lycopodium this frequently is DANGEROUS”. I think I pretty much stated repetition is not recommended. And she is pregnant, it’s not indicated in her case nor should she be taking such a risk. Even if it was indicated, taking something like Lycopodium more than once a week is playing with fire. All remedies can be indicated, some need to be used with caution. Like Lycopodium, Calcarea Carb, the latter is to be repeated even less frequently as a patient ages. I appreciate you having 30 years of experience very respectfully, it’s still a bad idea especially because she is pregnant. Twice daily of Lycopodium is a little too much. If you would like to use it for yourself or your own family members, and you feel its done wonders, thats fine. But not with a patient, and certainly not one who is pregnant.

          1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

WHo are you speaking of? Who’s pregnant?

          2. Stephanie says:

Joette – “who is pregnant?” one of the people who was asking you a question (Marie says:
            April 12, 2017 at 12:06 pm
Can you use this remedy (Lycopodium 200) when you are pregnant? I am 13 weeks and suffering from a painful umbilical hernia. Thank you) You even answered her (Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:
            April 12, 2017 at 2:48 pm
I have not used it for someone who is pregnant, but I know many homeopaths who have.)

      2. Manfred S. says:

Myakrasia, once i saw the dentist. afterwards i thought, maybe is should take some nux vomica because of substances used by the dentist. so i took one dose Nux v. C30. result: my left-sided hernia got really worse. then i had a look in the repertory and saw: left-sided hernia: nux v…- so i understand my case as kind of proving of a not indicated remedy.- by the way: lyc. also didnt help.

  23. sandradee says:

joette, if i may address myakrasia?

    to myakrasia:
it is inappropriate to enter your comments of objection on the use of homeopathy on this blog. I have seen questions and concerns answered by the team at Joettes office, and it is educational and encourages more questions and gathering of knowledge.

from what i can tell, and i am uneduated in homeopathy, it is a learning process that is supported on this blog, not an exclusive club mentality or fear mongering rhetoric. It’s simple information for a thinking person with health concerns to investigate thoroughly and use within the boundaries of basic common sense.

Having said that, please post your negative comments somewhere else. I take time out of my busy day to learn and glean what i can from these post, and I don’t have time for post that reflect your mentality.

not because i am uneducated or opposed to someone playing the devils advocate,( really, i am on this blog and others because I KNOW i am uneducated, and i play devils advocate myself with some subjects in order to get people thinking, but I have my ducks in a row first!) i OBJECT TO YOU because you are not employing or investigating the banerji protocols as taught by this site. I have. They work. To be less of an irritation you would need to post NOT WHY classical works a certain way, BUT HOW banerji approach is ineffective. Can you?

    If these facts are true:
BANERJIS HAVE A CLINIC/HOSPITAL WHERE THEY SEE THOUSANDS A DAY, AND TREAT MANY WITH SUCCESS

YOU MAYAKRASIA ALSO HAVE A CLINIC OF THIS SIZE WITH THIS AMOUNT OF SUCCESS AND REPEATABLE OUTCOMES WITH HOMEOPATHIC APPLICATIONS and are actively sharing your information with as many as possible

If these two things are true, then you should post objections here…because you have something to teach, not because you have objections about what is being taught! but if you had something to teach, wouldn’t you be posting on your super busy blog, and not this one? wouldn’t I eventually find your successful way of applying homeopathy on this information sharing highway?

if the second line about you isn’t true, then please post somewhere else! I can’t sift thru your posts without feeling tired of the people who want to be in the …

Your beef is with the banerjis and they are in India! Be a part of the solution and go start a website of education with homeopathy, and please make it understandable and easy to use and have proven repeatable outcomes to back up your education filled blog.I would visit it often!

As for me, I appreciate the distilledway joette and her group teach and inform and trying to make health i the reach of the thinking person.

Wisdom is knowledge applied, understanding is knowing in what situations to use your knowledge and discernment is knowing when your knowledge may or may not be useful. So while Joette teaches, it is up to individual to learn these things and use it with wisdom and discernment and understanding.

  24. sandradee says:

    sorry myakrsia,

my post sounded much harsher than intended.
please investigate the banerji protocols for yourself. try the methods being talked about, your homeopathic background and sincerity seem to be perfect for this.
Very sorry for sounding harsh, I have regrets about that. I meant to be emphatic, but not harsh.
    please have a good day.
Homeopathy will not save the world. love and kindness must never be side stepped. What is hoped for is a relief of physical symptoms to a degree if not complete health.
Again, my sincere apologies for the teeth in my post!

  25. Dipen says:

Can I use this protocol for hiatus hernia? If not then what should I choose? Thanks in advance.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ve used this for all hernias.

  26. Dipen says:

Lycopodium 200 every alternate day I have to take then ?

  27. bonniebanner says:

Hi Joette, Several years ago I had a EGD (esophageal/stomach scope) done and was told that I had a small hiatal hernia. Would this protocol be appropriate for this situation? If so, since I can’t monitor visually, what would you suggest for duration of treatment? Thanks so much for all your interesting/informative posts.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If there are no symptoms, we don’t use a homeopathic. If there are, then use the symptoms ass your guide post. A small HH diagnosed several years ago is not a strong rationale.

  28. Stephanie says:

My cat was hit by a car. Can this protocol be used for a severe diaphragmatic hernia? We can’t afford the surgery.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If the hernia was directly caused by trauma to the area, it would likely need a trauma medicine such as Arnica or Bellis P. in addition to a hernia medicine.

  29. Matthew Slaughter says:

Ms Joette Calabrese, I have an umbilical hernia that’s been present for probably at least 6 to 8 months. What kind of homeopathic medicine should I take? What potency and how often? I beleive mine came from working out in the gym as I’m a weightlifter and I’m still able to work out but now how I did before and it has been frustrating having to tiptoe around it. I don’t like the idea of getting surgery done and I don’t trust surgery to be a great fix given all the mesh lawsuit stories I hear now. Please advise what I can Joette and thank you in advance.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Mathew, I’m sorry, but I don’t advise folks regarding their concerns on this forum.

    2. MyAkrasia says:

Matthew, try Arnica 1M at bedtime once for a week. Then start Nux Vomica 1M daily at bedtime and perhaps stop gyming and stressing the area till it heals. You should see an improvement in 2 weeks. Keep the Nux Vomica 1M going till it heals completely.

If that fails, then start Lycopodium 200 every other day as recommended by Joette in line with the Banerji protocols.

  30. Matthew Slaughter says:

So I should take both of those before bedtime or start one after I finish the other?

    1. myakrasia says:

Start the second after you finish taking the first for a week.

  31. Davi Parker says:

My horse has a hernia. She miscarried a couple weeks ago. I don’t have Lycopodium 200 on hand, how often should I give the 30? Will that even work?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I urge you to own all of the most important remedies in 30’s and 200’s. You can try any potency you like but the results will not likely match what I’ve become accustomed to.

  32. Davi Parker says:

I’m sorry, my computer won’t let me reply to your reply about my horse with the hernia.
I’m working on building my collection, I have the 100 kit, but sadly I, like most people, can’t buy all the things at once. I live in a rural area and don’t have access to a store that carries the remedy I need so I have to order it online. So, while I wait for it to arrive, how often should I give the 30, or is there another remedy you would suggest?
    Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have no experience using Lyco 30 but with no other choice, twice daily might be of help. Contact my office to purchase 200 and 30 potency kits or order on Amazon. I don’t know v. many stores that will carry what most folks need to be able to count on homeopathy.

  33. Lauren B says:

I have a 1 1/2 year old grandson with an inguinal hernia. We have been giving him Nux Vomica 30C for about a week now and have seen improvement. Should we be giving him 200C? He had it pretty severely with vomiting and pain.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When improvement ensues, it’s generally best not to tinker with success. If it halts, reconsider your choice.

  34. Kay says:

I have had a very small umbilical hernia for almost a year now accompanied by tenderness in my left abdominal wall (& also Diastasis Recti from my last pregnancy). I have 30 C Nux Vomica and 30C Arnica Montana and was told to take 4 of each 3x/day. I just wanted to make sure this sounded correct. I came across a bunch of unfavorable side effects via Google and just want to make sure I’m doing this right! Thanks for any help you can give!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy does not produce side effects. If there are problems after taking a homeopathic, it generally means the wrong remedy was chosen. I would not necessarily use these 2 remedies for the conditions you describe, but they still have a chance of doing some good.

  35. Kay says:

I tried to reply to your reply but my phone wouldn’t let me! First, thank you for your response! Secondly, I read the string of comments and was curious, in the case of an umbilical hernia, is there any difference between lycopodium 200C and lycopodium 200ck? I just wanted to be sure I tried the correct thing. Thank you!

    1. Jenn says:

the difference between 200c and 200ck is a matter of how the remedy is prepared, not a difference in potency.

  36. Bassam says:

    Hi Joette,

I am a 48 year old male and I have an inguinal hernia on both the right and left side. How long (weeks) is it advisable to keep taking Lycopodium 200C every other day and Plumbum 200C twice daily?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We use homeopathic medicines for as long as they’re needed. when the condition is resolved, the medicine is halted.

  37. Grace says:

I also am very curious, in the case of treating an umbilical hernia, is there a difference between lycopodium 200C and lycopodium 200ck?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      ‘Not exact but close enough.

  38. I initially had a small umbilical hernia and tenderness in my left abdominal wall. I started taking lycopodium 200C every other day for the last two weeks. So far, the tenderness has gone away, but the hernia is the same size. With the tenderness subsiding, I felt like it was an indicator that I should continue with the lycopodium until I saw a change in the hernia size. Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance!

  39. Dawn says:

My husband has a hernia in the front stomach area. He also had surgery several years ago and has a long scar, he does has scar tissue as well . My question is if one has a hernia and sticks out far but does not cause pain. The only symptom would be it sticks out quite far . Would one still treat with lyco 200?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

A hernia needn’t be painful in order to treat it.

  40. Bassam says:

    Hi Joette,

Would it be ok if I take the Lycopodium 200C and Plumbum 200C for my hernia, while I am taking Sabal Compose for my enlarged prostate?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t tell you specifically what you can take but we regularly use more than one protocol at a time. And these are not contraindicated.

  41. Teri says:

Can you try to fix more than one issue at a time for instance osteoporosis and stomach bloating

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      yes.

  42. Shibu Samuel Jacob says:

    Hi Joette,

I have a left sided inguinal hernia which is wide mouthed. The GP said that it’s not an emergency situation but to eventually go for surgery. I’m petrified of surgeries and while searching for natural remedies came across your blog entry on hernias. Your story gave me hope and I approached my local homeopath for a remedy. He admitted that he couldn’t claim many hernia success stories in his experience but gave me Lycopodium. He didn’t specify the potency but I have 5drops twice a day and it’s just been 2 weeks. Still have mild discomfort in the left groin area and the lump is pretty much the same. In your experience, can such hernias resolve and how long do you reckon it might take? Thanks a lot for sharing this story and giving me hope Joette! Cheers

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have witnessed at least improvement and many times resolution when I’ve used Lycopodium 200, twice daily for a few months.

  43. Shibu says:

Thanks a lot Joette,I really appreciate your quick response. Ok,so it might take a few months before any improvement is seen. In your experience will wearing a truss aid the process? Lycopodium 200 twice daily,is that a Banerji protocol? I was watching a video yesterday on YouTube of you in Kolkata with the late Dr.Banerji. Very interesting! I’ve just signed up to be a part of your community and look forward to all your future posts. Will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks again. Cheers

  44. Shibu says:

Joette, are cell salts also prescribed for hernia? Is that part of homeopathy? Cheers

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Cell salts may be used for a hernia but see my response to your previous questions.

      1. Shibu jacob says:

Thanks Joette,I saw your response. If a remedy has been prescribed in the pill form and it’s available only as drops, then how do we adjust it? For example do 5 pills equate to 5drops? Thanks

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Follow the directions printed on the side of the bottle as to what comprises a dose.

  45. Shibu jacob says:

    Ok.Thanks

  46. Anil Patel says:

    Hi Joette,

Whether the Banerji protocol of Lycopodium and Plumbum Metallicum do the job in the case of ventra hernia.

Thanks … in advance for the kind response.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I never tell folks that a protocol will do the job for them, but I will say that Lyco/Plumb is the protocol for such.

  47. Anil Patel says:

Pl. accept my apologies; my intention was … whether the protocol is for all types of hernia.

Thanks for the quick and precise response.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

No apologies needed. I hope this info helps you.

  48. Meredith says:

I had read in the Survivalist that the BP for hernia is Sulphur 200c eod and Nux vomica 30c 1D. Is this comparable to the Lycopodim/Plumbum protocol? Can the Lyco/Plumb mixed remedy be used 2D or does the Lyco200 need to be eod? thank you for this information. My husband just came up with an inguinal hernia and we are treating it with homeopathy.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There is more than one way to skin a cat. That means you now own two protocols in case one doesn’t act.

The best way to get good results is to use the protocols just as they’re written.

  49. Meredith says:

    thank you. that helps.

  50. suki says:

hi joette, my dad had hernia and he didn’t opt for surgery. it was earlier cured through homeopathy and he stays fine. after reading your article,he started taking lycopodium for the past 10days in order to strengthen the muscles. today he says he is getting a mild vibration but no pain. is this a common scenario? can he continue with this medication?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

We don’t use a medicine unless there is clear pathology. Beyond that, it may cause a proving. Remember, homeopathy is not used “just in case”, “perhaps”, or as a supplement.

      1. suki says:

        thank you joette

  51. Shibu jacob says:

    Hi Joette,

Whenever I feel worried about my hernia,I read your post and it makes me feel better! I was heartened to see new comments. As I wrote to you earlier the Banerji protocol clinic had suggested Ipecacuanha 200c and plumbum met 200c initially, but the Ipecacuanha gave me nausea and they halted it. They then put me on Lycopdium 200c and plumbum met 200c. After a few days I felt an increase in groin pain and perineum pain. They then added thuja 30c and belladonna 3c. The belladonna is sos. Do you reckon the slight increase in pain was an aggravation when the remedy starts working? Had read that homeopathic remedies makes it worse before making better. Thanks Joette and God bless you and your good work.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Sometimes we see a little aggravation before settling out after taking a homeopathic. Hence we don’t move to another medicine unless the aggravation is unacceptably uncomfortable or painful.

  52. Shibu jacob says:

Thanks Joette, the aggravation has reduced. The David mentioned in this post,is he a patient of yours? Amazed at how fast his bump disappeared! I wish more people would give testimonials on how homeopathy helped their hernias. I sure hope and pray I can be one in the near future. How does Thuja help with hernia? Does it aid with the healing or with pain? I’ve heard of thuja helping with skin conditions, but it obviously has other benefits! Thanks again.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you’re interested in learning the full range of Thuja’s capabilities of, read it in a materia medica online such as Dr. JAmes Tyler Kent.
Some people have instant results while others can take weeks and months.

  53. Shibu Jacob says:

    Ok Joette,will look up! Thanks.

  54. Andrew says:

Sounds like you have witnessed a few people with small direct inguinal hernias with the help of your homeopathy treatment. Have you or a colleague, witnessed a normal male with a normal-sized indirect inguinal hernia or larger(size of orange too large grapefruit/mini-football) improve greatly the size of the hernia or resolve it completely with repetitive homeopathy treatments? Could you tell us of that particular case if that exist in your memory?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The 1st one that comes to mind is my father who had surgery many years prior and the hernia returned in spite of procedure. So my treatment was used after the surgery failed. Another was one of our puppies that was born with a particularly large inguinal hernia. (I tend to recall family members 1st.) Another was a farmer who lifted bales of hay regularly.

All three were completely resolved. My father’s never returned but for a little stress in the area from time to time. The dog’s didn’t return for at least a few years after which time I lost contact with the owner. As for the farmer, I don’t know how long it lasted because people don’t necessarily remain in touch with me. There were others but I don’t necessarily recall them at this moment.

  55. Vish says:

Joette, it is encouraging to see your comments and success stories with inguinal hernia. I am a male and have it on the left side. Additionally, I feel weak (especially lower back and lower abs) and light headed after some physical activity like walking for 30 min. Do you think Lyco200 would work for me?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t tell you whether a specific homeopathic would act for you.

      1. Vish says:

Joette, Additionally, I do have sweet craving especially after lunch.Do you suggest that I try the homeopathic for a few days to see if it works for me or is additional diagnosis required before starting the homeopathic?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t make specific recommendations for you but what I love about homeopathy is that it covers more than one condition simultaneously. AND… it doesn’t punch side effects.

  56. RobPrice says:

Hi Joette, I’m a 49 yr old male, have right side inguinal hernia, has been 2 yrs. It bulges out upto an inch at its worse, subsides when I lie down. I was prescribed Nux Vomica 1M and Lycopodium 1M daily, took it for 2 and half months (Dec19- mid Feb20), did not help. Then took a break for 1 month. Then from mid March20 have been taking Lyco 1M once a week, has been a month, still no progress. Have I been over dosed with Lyco? My constitution type aligns more closely to Nux – sedentary/anxious/constipation/irritable/hemorrhoids etc. How do I get back to the 200 potencies if 1M was too much? Give it a one week break then start Lyco 200 every other day, and Plumbum Met 200 twice daily? Shoud I add Nux 200 to this?

  57. Bonnie says:

Joette, did you say what would work for a hiatal hernia that is aggravated by certain foods? Currently I am taking lycopodium200c + arsenicum album 3c twice a day. I’ve been doing it for about 2 months and still have problems with my stomach pulling up when I eat certain foods.

  58. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Is this a condition which may sometimes require longer than the usual 8 weeks to see any kind of a shift? I know you’ve said some conditions/remedies can sometimes be slower acting.

    Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Often within a couple of months or so, we see that the condition is no longer progressing. This is often followed by the condition becoming less bothersome but still present, and so on until it becomes less and less concerning over months.

      1. Rachel says:

Thank you for your reply, that was extremely helpful!

Is an old incisional hernia a whole different thing than other types of hernias due to scar tissue, etc.? Have you seen the beautiful Banerji Protocol of Lyco/Plumb alone act?

        Thank you very much.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I have indeed seen the protocol act on incisional hernias.

  59. Sarah says:

Hi, I see above you recommended Lycopodium 200c every other day but in recent blogs you’ve recommended lycopodium 200c twice a day. May I ask which one is best for umbilical hernia?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      It depends on the severity.

  60. Sarah says:

So if I understand correctly than lycopodium 200c every other day can fully resolve hernia depending on length of time. Hernia is visual with no symptoms. I really appreciate your answer and time.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

I would never declare that anything that I teach will do that.

  61. Sarah says:

I’m confused…. The first sentence of this blog says “I thought hernias could only be eliminated with surgery! You mean your hernia is gone from taking homeopathic remedies?” Can hernias be resolved with homeopathy or not?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

For some, there’s a full recovery. For others it’s partial and for still others, there may be no improvement at all. I make no guarantees.
The real question is…Why would it matter? Isn’t anything that costs about $12 and carries no side effects be worth the effort?

  62. Sarah says:

I agree! I guess I’m just confused because you say there’s no side effects- but what if it’s the wrong remedy for someone with a hernia. Can’t something bad happen? Just trying to understand homeopathy.

    Definitely taking your courses soon!!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

If you take the wrong medicine and continue to do so, indeed one may experience a proving. That is different than a side effect.
A side effect is when someone takes antibiotics for a UTI and finds that they subsequently are unable to eat dairy, gluten, etc.
Having said this, this subject is too sweeping to cover in this forum. But, you most certainly will get the information you’re looking for by taking a course.
Start with Gateway to Homeopathy so that you can learn along with others.
      You’ll love it.

  63. Sarah says:

Would one need to heal their Diastasis Recti first or try to heal hernia first if it’s umbilical?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

Its not uncommon for two conditions to be approached simultaneously.

  64. Kirsten says:

Hi joette, I see lycopodium 200c every other day, lycopodium 200c 2x a day, or lycoplum 200c 2x a day…. Which one have you seen most success in your experience?

  65. Kirsten says:

Have you seen more results with lycoplum or lycopodium alone?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      Lyco/Plumb

  66. Sarah says:

    Hi Joette,
Thank you so much for all the info you give I appreciate it so much.
I’m really enjoying being a mighty member and I enjoyed your gateway courses.
I’m giving the protocol for a hernia and I see you wrote here that it sometimes can only aid the pain. How do I know if its healing it or not? Does the fact that if I skip it 1 day the pain comes back mean anything?
    Thank you

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, PHom M says:

Think of it this way: if you use a homeopathic medicine and it acts then you back off of it. If upon doing this the symptoms return, it’s time to take it up again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
