Homeopathic Protocols for Genital Herpes

Genital herpes.

Such an awful disease.

Such a delicate subject.

Let's talk about it and what to do homeopathically.

What I am offering here is the Banerji Protocol for genital herpes. I’ve seen other practices for this condition work before but so far, none have proven as effective as this.

I must first offer a reminder of how important it is to know for certain that it is indeed genital herpes and not some other type of rash or condition.

Remember, homeopathy is not a supplement method, an immune booster, or an herbal supplement.

It is medicine.

This means that it takes on a correctional stance, not a supportive one, making it vital to have an accurate diagnosis for the specific condition being treated.

As always, when using the Banerji Protocols, and as a matter of good practice, begin with Camphor 200C – one dose, one day only.

“Why?” you ask?

Because those who live with genital herpes have typically been prescribed a number of different drugs to treat the condition, and we want to aid in clearing the case as best we can.

Camphor 200 has a reputation for doing this.

The next step is to employ Mercurius sol 200ir?t=homeopathywor 20&l=as2&o=1&a=B004KZO9NK mixed with Arsenicum album 200, taken twice daily; approximately 12 hours apart.

If the eruptions are accompanied by pain, the following may also be added: Hypericum perf 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 200 for a few days, or until the pain stops.

All the while, continue with step two as outlined below.

About mixed remedies: You may either purchase these combination medicines pre-made or mix them yourself by putting a dose of each in the mouth one after the other or simultaneously.

Putting it all together

Day 1: One dose of Camphor 200 for one day only.

Day 2: Until there is no further evidence of the virus remaining: Mercurius sol 200 mixed with Arsenicum album 200, taken twice daily over many months.

  • After employing the above medicines, there may be other symptoms that present such as itching, tenderness, etc. In this case, it’s best to add the protocol for each of these, as per the condition. For more information on skin protocols in general, go to Skinderella and my course Skin; the Ugly Truth.

A word about conventional drugs

I so often hear folks ask if they can use both synthetic drugs and homeopathy simultaneously. My answer is not necessarily applicable for every case but generally speaking, the objective of homeopathy is to uproot illness, not treat symptoms. Since these are opposite goals, the two paradigms are often incompatible.

Homeopathy works more effectively when used without the conflict of synthetics, but the goal is long-term wellness without suffering from a boomerang effect of withdrawal.

Given the difference in paradigms, it's best to eliminate the use of manufactured drugs as soon as feasible. However — and it’s a huge however — it is often imprudent to simply abort the use of them without careful consideration.

I urge folks to work with their primary health care provider or pharmacist to determine the best way to approach this.

It is my hope to address this subject in greater detail in the future.

For now, go home, treat your friends and family, and become the best healer you can be.

Joette laughingI am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

Joette is not a physician and the relationship between Joette and her clients is not of prescriber and patient, but as educator and client. It is fully the client's choice whether or not to take advantage of the information Joette presents. Homeopathy doesn't "treat" an illness; it addresses the entire person as a matter of wholeness that is an educational process, not a medical one. Joette believes that the advice and diagnosis of a physician is often in order.

Great article Joette, thank you! What is the banerji protocol for Herpes Simplex 1? Like oral herpes, is it the same 2 remedies?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

they are different and i’ll be discussing this soon.

      1. Shelley says:

I’d be interested to read about the protocol for other forms of herpes also. My husband contracted herpetic whitlow in a cut on his finger. If it comes back, I would like to know what to use for that please.

      2. Daniele says:

Thank you Joette, I am also interested in the protocol for Herpes Simplex 1.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

‘Definitely worthy of a blog. I’ll put it no my list.

    2. Stephanie Walker says:

This is invaluable information and hopefully a lifesaver for many folks. I would also like to know the Banerji protocol for Herpes Simplex 1 and its manifestation as ocular herpes.

      Thank you, Joette!

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’ll write on this subject soon.

  2. D.L. says:

Is this a protocol to lessen the duration of the outbreak? It sounded like it could get rid of the virus, which I thought was not possible.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t say I know that it has actually removed the virus since I’ve not had anyone report to me that they had been retested. However, it is reported that the results can be sweeping.

  3. Diane says:

Thank you for this. My husband had genital herpes before we married. As careful as we were, I got it after 20 years. I have had much relief using Rhus Tox 30C when an outbreak starts with the itching, but I would like to prevent it altogether if possible. I only have an outbreak rarely before my period or if I am down with a cold or something…not very often at all.
I will definitely give this protocol a try.
Would this be safe to recommend to someone who is pregnant? (I’m a midwife)

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If I were pregnant I would use it for myself.

  4. Iryna B. says:

Thank you for the article, Joette! People don’t like to talk about it, but life happens.
I got it before I even was sexually active. Yep, hospital stay! My husband doesn’t worry about it, but I am cautious.
    Thank you for the knowledge!

  5. Rajdeep Das says:

Many thanks Joette !I have been looking for such protocols for a long,as whenever I stopped taking antiviral drugs the condition reappears. I will buy these medicines soon, could you please tell me how many drops of each I should mix together? And how many months should I follow? Again thanks a ton for being here as a savior.

  6. Maria de Fátima Magalhães says:

Thank you Joette, you are so generous and I learn a lot from you. Is there a banerji protocol for high cholesterol, after an avc(stroke) and its remedies?
Thanks a lot. Sorry for any mistake…

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There is and its this simple: Cholestrinum 6, twice daily. However, (and this is huge) the Drs. Banerji and I have concluded independently of each other, that high cholesterol is NOT a threat. I plan to write about this subject in the future.

  7. Jenny says:

    Hi,
I have a question about mixing herbal medicine and homeopathy. I’m a clinical master herbalist who is very interested in homeopathy. Do you, or in your opinion, can you mix? I’m interested in your combo pack and a kit. Also, is the banerji protocols in the books and cds in the kits? I’m under the impression that they r not. Thanks for info.
    Jenny

  8. Victoria says:

Can this protocol be used if you are nursing? My babies are over 1 year old but we plan to nurse at least until 2 years old. Do I need to wait until my babies are weaned?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

In general homeopathy has a reputation for being able to be used during nursing.

  9. Stephen L says:

    Much thanks Joette!
Quick question. Generally an outbreak lasts me about 2 weeks to heal up. In step 2 you say take until no further evidence remains of the virus, but also to take daily for many months. If I am understanding correctly, I should continue step 2 even after the current outbreak heals over for a couple months. Am I understanding correctly? Thanks.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

      You understand correctly.

  10. Jenny says:

    Hi,
I am a clinical master herbalist with a couple of questions. How would you, or even can you, mix herbal medicine with homeopathy? I am very interested in adding homeopathic medicine to my arsenal and will be, hopefully soon, purchasing your combo pack and one of your kits. Also, are the Banerji protocols in the combo pack or is this a separate set of protocols? Thank you for any answers and feedback you can give.
    Jenny

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Yes, you certainly may use both botanicals with homeopathy; they are a perfect match. I have not gone back and revised the combo pack and added the Banerji Protocols yet.’HOpe to do so in the future.

  11. Kirstin says:

Thank you for the information. I’m just looking to clarify if you would start this protocol when an outbreak starts vs. taking now w/o an outbreak going on to help avoid future outbreaks. Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The overall protocol is used when there is an outbreak OR if the outbreaks occur close together, it has been used between as well.

      1. Kirstin says:

        Thanks for the clarification. 🙂

  12. sandy says:

With this protocol and with associated pain, would one be taking another dose of 2ooc with the hypericaum or is that already included with the original dosing with the mercurious. So taking it BID with pain it would actually include two extra doses of the arsenicum? Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I’m afraid I don’t understand your question. Please rephrase.

  13. Jeannie says:

    Hi Joette,
I am concerned with taking two remedies at a time over many months in such a high potency. My understanding was that it should be a single remedy and only taken until a healing response and then wait. Is it also Ok that these remedies are not chosen based on my specific symptoms?
I am desperate so will try it and let everyone know how it works. Should all other remedies be avoided at this time and what if there is an apparent aggravation?
Thanks for your help and care through your blog

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

What you’re describing is classical homeopathy. This is not classical; but rather a Banerji Protocol. Using their method, we rarely see aggravations and the protocol is potency and frequency specific.

  14. Rajdeep says:

Please tell me how many drops of each medicine should be considered as a single dose?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

THe directions as to how many pills to be used as one dose is usually indicated on the side of the bottle. It is a different amount for each manufacturer.

      1. Rajdeep says:

I brought in liquid form, and there is nothing mentioned on it. Should I consider 2 drops as a dose?

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Generally in liquid form, a dose would be 2-5 drops, but to know for sure, you might want to check with the pharmacy that manufactured it.

          1. Rajdeep says:

I have been using the combination of two medicine for last two Weeks, but I got an outbreak again today.what sould I do now?

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

For chronic conditions we don’t expect the results to be instantaneous. You’ll likely see slow, steady improvement over many months. I like to say that you’ll take 2 steps forward and one back.

  15. Dipen says:

Does the same remedy work for HPV,which causes warts in genital and mucosal parts?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

THere are different protocols for that, but I can’t say it wouldn’t act.

      1. Dipen says:

Please tell me the protocols. Thank you.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

This is an excellent subject and I’ll take it up on the blog in the future.

          1. Dipen says:

            Will be waiting , thanks.

          2. Ms.M says:

I am also interested. Thank you. I am interested in both together.

      2. Katt says:

I so appreciate your blog. It is a wealth of information for so many ailments. I have taken the Gateway 1 course, and am working my way through GW 2. It is so liberating to not have to depend on Drs that want to treat the symptoms and not the root issue.
My question is, have you to date addressed HPV on your blog? If so, I haven’t been able to find it. You said that treatment for HPV is different from genital herpes, but I’m wondering if you would be so kind to share that protocol. Or is there a Banerji protocol for that as well?
Thank you so very much for your time. I do so appreciate you!!

        1. Su says:

Did you find the hpv protocol Kati? She never spoke about it yet.

  16. Rajdeep says:

Please share protocol for genital warts, I have been waiting for your post on this subject for long.

  17. chawksgirl4ever says:

Can this protocol be used for oral heroes virus not accompanied by genital herpes?

  18. Tallie says:

Hi. Have there been any reports from someone that is doing this protocol and the virus has been eliminated from their body ?

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

I don’t have information on this, but my inclination is to consider that once it is in the system, it will not leave. Not unlike other herpes viruses.

      1. Tallie says:

So, can homeopathic medicine eliminate the virus ?

        1. Courtney Ingham says:

If you’re asking me if it will kill microorganisms, the answer is that that is not the goal. The intent is to correct the problem which means it doesn’t present as pathology.

  19. Ahmad says:

Hi, are there any guide about gonorrhea/gleet, as it is one of major issues now a days due to resistance against antibiotics. E.Coli infection also. Please do share your thoughts.

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

I have not treated gonorrhea, but it is something that is treated by homeopaths throughout the ages. Its best to meet with a homeopath with experience with such since there are other conditions that need to be considered.

  20. rashmisvisvas says:

I do agree that herpes is an unpleasant feeling because i am also suffering from herpes. In starting I didn’t recognize that they were herpes symptoms because like any other person I was also not aware about this disease. It is my first out break and I am using natural treatment for controlling my symptoms. It is actually a skin infection and it can spread easily from one person to another person. To know more about this disease I have searched many websites but they don’t have any information in detail. Then finally, 4 days ago I have found a website related herpes and they have protocols and methods to treat herpes simplex virus

  21. bdeneke says:

I have the same question as Sandy above (I think) it looks like the protocol for the outbreak and the protocol for the outbreak with pain both include Arsenicum Album 200c twice daily. So, I wonder if you would give two doses of Arsenicum Album twice daily or if you give only one dose resulting in a total of three remedies every two hours instead of 4. . . . . Thanks so much!!!

  22. kru says:

    Hi,
I have Herpes 1 but it presents itself on my buttocks. Would I use this protocol to treat my herpes or is there another one that would be more appropriate.
    Thank you.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Herpetic eruptions on the buttocks are considered genital herpes.

      1. KRU says:

Thank you for the response 🙂

  23. tn says:

Hi there! I just purchased the first three remedies mentioned. What is considered a dose of Camphor. The bottle says 4 Globules 2-3x daily. Then with the other two they say the same, so if I’m understanding correctly it should be 4 globules of those twice per day. For the Camphor though, does one dose simple mean 4 globules once on day one, period?

Are they better taken on an empty stomcach?
Do you hold under your tongue until completely dissolved?
Thank you for your time, I am very excited to try this as nothing has worked!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

The number of pills printed on the outside of the bottle indicates what comprises a dose. That is usually 4-5 pills. The frequency I use however is no more than 1 dose. This means 4-5 pills one day and then no more after that.
An empty stomach is not needed. Chewing them in a clean mouth(that is without food in it) is as good as sucking on the pills.

      1. tn says:

        Thank you, Joette!
For the Mercurius and Arsenicum I take those about 12 hours apart twice a day though, right? Do they need to be taken separately (15-30 min) away from one another?

How long should I give this protocol an opportunity to work before stopping? My condition is fairly chronic. Would this be aggressive enough?

Have you ever seen it go away within one month, and does one still need to avoid the usual suspects of chocolate, etc., or would this protocol override it?

Lastly, does consuming alcohol make homeopathy work less effectively?

        I appreciate any help!:)

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

“Mixed with” means taken at the same moment as though they’re one medicine.
We give medicines 8 weeks followed by assessment as to whether the condition is moving forward even in a small way.
Your questions and the strategy is laid out step by step in my course titled “Skin, the Ugly Truth”.
          Alcohol is fine.

  24. Anni says:

    What about HSV1/2 nosode?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t use nosodes as my 1st choice for such conditions.

  25. Cynthia Miranda says:

I can’t find camphor 200 is camphora the same thing and I only see it in 30cs does it mean that I would have to take like 7 of these at one time? they come in like 80 at a time. What do I do with the rest?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Camphor and Camphora are one and the same. Potency matters so we use only 200. If you can’t get it as a link from my site, try Amazon.

  26. Ranjan says:

Dear Mam Kindly let me Know as I am Little Confused .1st Question as i understand”One dose of Camphor 200 for one day only.” means only one dose should be taken one time then never be repeated its dose?. & 2nd Question is As you mention 2 Protocols, so we have to choose protocol 1 or 2 not both or both ? Please let me know

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

You understand fully. Give the 1st protocol 2 months to see if it’s acting even in a small way before abandoning it and moving on to the 2nd.

  27. Ranjan says:

Thanks mam for your valuable advice & so quick reply.

  28. Deborah says:

Can this protocol be used with your infected boils/cyst protocol?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Enter the words “Joette Calabrese Boils” and you’ll find your answer.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I just inadvertently re-read your question and realize I misunderstood it. Indeed you may use more than one protocol simultaneously.

  29. Meg says:

Would feline herpevirus fall under this umbrella also or should I be looking more specifically to eye and upper respiratory protocols?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I have no experience with it so I can’t comment.

  30. Gina says:

I am terribly confused. I was diagnosed with genital herpes 25 years ago. I never took anything for it, just suffered each flare until it went away. Inexplicably, I have not had a single episode for the last 14 years. Then, out of the blue, it’s back. I looked up the Banerji protocol from my book and it lists Anti Crud, Belladonna, Hypericum as first line. It does not list Merc. sol at all, although it does have Arsenicum as a second line. Please clarify this for me!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are many ways to skin a cat. I teach the methods that have worked in my practice but there are others as well. If one doesn’t act, another is likely to do so.

  31. suzanne says:

for an outbreak without pain or itching that lasts only a few days, would one take the remedy once, every day, for few days, or take it for a few weeks, until the next outbreak?

  32. Sonia says:

if the outbreak is only mild, and only lasts for about 2 days, but comes back after every one or two months, then, should one stop the remedies after 2 days once its over, OR, should one continue for many months until there is no longer any outbreak happening.

  33. Rachel Palazzo says:

Is this protocol ok for someone who is pregnant?

  34. Ana Monterroso says:

I do not find information for HOV in your blogs nor Banerji Protocol books.

  35. Candiis says:

Hello. The remedies should be 200c or is 200ck ok?
It seems that boiron does not offer 200c anymore.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

C and Ck are virtually interchangeable.

  36. Candis says:

Thank you so much for the info. I have been doing this protocol for 2 months now, and my last out break had more nerve pain than usual. The actual blisters go away really quickly and i do think there is an improvement . However, now im starting to have joint pain kind of consistently and im wondering if it could be the remedies?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

Any time we suspect a homeopathic (or any medicine, for that matter) might be causing a problem, we automatically consider halting it.

  37. Ruby says:

when one only has a tingling sensation every few months or so and some redness but no itching or pain, could this protocol still be used?

  38. Ruby says:

The diagnoses was Herpes Type 1 not 2.
even though the outbreak is on the genitals.

(most type 1 is on the lips or around the mouth, but can also be on the genitals)

Type 2 is only on the genitals.

therefore, even though it is type 1, and not type 2 as is written at the beginning of this writing, would this still be considered the correct remedy?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, PHom M says:

The reason I didn’t mention Type 1 or 2 is because depending on that method is outdated. Instead, I crafted this blog so as to make it clear that my information is based on organ-specific, location-specific, not a test.
