beware cat bite

Angry Cat

Bridget rescued her cat from a couple of marauding dogs. When she picked up the panicky cat, he instinctively attacked. He bit deeply through her hand in two places and scratched her badly. Uh-oh!

Not knowing about homeopathy, she went to the hospital, where she was given antibiotics and sent on her way. They told her to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for the pain and swelling.

The following day, Bridget’s hand was red, very sore, swollen and stiff. The analgesics were not helping. A nurse friend handed her two bottles: Hypericum perforatum 200C and Arsenicum 200C and she instructed her to take one dose of each within a few minutes of each other.

Half an hour later the pain was all but gone, and the swelling and stiffness greatly subsided. She found that she needed to take the mixture every 3 hours the first day, but by the second day it, was needed only about 2-3 times. And the next several days, just to be certain, she took it twice daily.

A week later, it appeared that all was well. Only a slight scar reminded her of the bite, and even the scar disappeared in time. I would have insisted that the remedy be used for a few more weeks, but Bridget was not a student/client of mine and was on her own.

Nonetheless, Bridget was lucky. She was in the right place to hear about an option that would shift her away from harmful side effects of over-the-counter analgesics; side effects that have been getting a lot of press lately.

No liver consequences have been reported and no kidney side effects. For our friend Bridget, the remedy was more effective than either Tylenol or ibuprofen anyway because it didn’t just relieve pain but allowed her body to take care of any infection that was likely lurking.

You might say, “She was saved by the antibiotic.” But over two centuries of homeopathic literature and observation contend that animal bites can be safely addressed with the correct homeopathic remedy alone.

Am I saying that we should not use antibiotics and such? Not really. But, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I so fully trust homeopathy that if this happened to me, I’d forgo the ER and get to my homeopathy medicine cabinet.

I have personally used the above remedies for animal bites that our livestock and pets have sustained, and it has worked over the decades every time. So much for the placebo effect.

Students I’ve taught have also reported case after case of animal bites from cats and dogs decidedly cured with the above strategy. Additionally, while in Calcutta I observed a woman with an infected Zebu bite that was resolved exclusively with homeopathy.

And these remedies can be used in conjunction with antibiotics, but for me, why bother with antibiotics when I have a protocol that is effective minus the side effects?

Certainly, in circumstances where modern medicine is not available, these remedies could be lifesaving.

The Drs. Banerji use a slightly different method.

It is one of their many protocols that have recently entered the American, Japanese and European medical scene.

Here’s what they say about their protocol for animal bites:

“Under our system of the Banerji Protocols, and based on our long experience of treating various kinds of animal bites, particularly in Mihijam in India, where there were no other facilities for treating them, Stramonium 200C and Arsenicum album 200C, given four times a day for one month, we found to be of immense value in saving lives.”

There you have it. Homeopathy in the hands of experts and offered to you.

If you find this information useful, please share it.

The only way homeopathy can survive the yellow teeth of the AMA and Big Pharma is a grassroots movement of one mother, one family, one person to another.

Cure your family yourself and pass on the good word.

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  2. Tara says:

Does this work for all kinds of bites? Does it work when poisonous venom is involved?

  3. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

No, that is the subject of another blog. This method works for non-poisonous, mammmal bites that are not rabid.

  4. Barbara Jones says:

this is a different problem. Could you tell me what is useful for candida?

  5. Paola Brown says:

My son bit his nail while he had strep throat. Within a day or so, we noticed that his finger was all swelled up and terrible. Thanks Joette for recommending this remedy (Hypericup Perf + Ars Alb)…it took a couple of months for the nail to fall off and regrow, but all is well without antibiotics. So I think it’s interesting when this remedy works not only for animal bites but also for nasty-kid-nail-biting-that-gets-infected :). And as a bonus, he completely stopped biting his nails because he would rather avoid a repeat of this experience in the future! Two birds, one stone, and that stone was not antibiotics! 🙂

  6. Gwen says:

Why Arsenicum and not Ledum? Curious.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Good question. Ledum could also have been used, but I think these are better chosen since they have a long history that has proven itself. As you can see from the difference between what I have used through the the years and that which the Banerjis use, there is often more than one choice that might do the trick. In fact, I’ve used Ledum alone and have found in at least one case to have worked well. But as I recall, it was not infected; only an animal bite was sustained.

      1. Nora says:

Thank you so much. Your blog bye bye bites helped me with my 12 yr old Yorkies first infestation with fleas n he had two ticks. Ledum turned him around with just two doses. He has a nasty infect puncture wound where he had been chewing his leg. I missed it. Once I pulled out the insect it left a puncture wound that is red n swollen. I have also used silver gel n Tree tea oil. Stay on protocol w Ledum or switch to other since it’s infected. It has improved not as swollen, blood filled or red but concerned about infection. THank you

  7. Cheli says:

Thank you for posting this! I have had to rescue more than one cat in my time – being a cat person I always have a few around – and yes, bites can be pretty devastating.

  8. Annelise says:

I will definitely keep this in mind for next time one of our cats gets bitten in a fight!

By the way, my husband got bitten by a tick a few days ago, apparently this is already a very bad year for ticks… would this remedy be good for tick bites (and for preventing Lyme disease) as well, or do we take a different approach with insects?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

No, this protocol is not applicable for insects.

      1. Kim says:

Hello, interested in your response to this, Joette, because thanks to your lyme blog, I feel my Lyme was turned around with using Ledum and also Hypericum 200 + Arsenicum Album, yet you said not applicable for it here.

  9. Jackie says:

Is this protocol safe for a pregnant woman who was bitten by a cat?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

When used correctly, homeopathy is the safest medicine on earth. I used it during my pregnancies, for newborns, for the elderly and infirm. It is the ultimate medicine.

  10. MollyT says:

For a dog bite that just happened last night Aconite 30 was used first, then Ledum 30 two doses and two doses Ledum the day after so far. Should we switch to one of the above protocols? There doesn’t seem to be any infection so far and doesn’t seem to be swelling. Last night he said it was sore, today he can move that area quite well and just sore if someone touched it. I do have Hypericum and Arsenicum 200, but not Stramonium. What would indicate that I might need to give a dose of that combination or switch to those remedies? How long to take the Ledum if we only need to use that? Should Arsenicum be given to help ward off any infection?
Thanks so much for all your wonderful information on this website!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I can’t direct as to what which remedy you ought to be using, but if you’re looking for results aligned with what I discuss, its always better to stay with the protocol.

An infection would not likely appear within 12 hours.

In general, for bites and other acutes, we use the remedies for several days until it is clear that the person is out of the woods, followed by a few extra days for good measure.

The protocols I discuss are relevant to the entire event, including infection.

When remedies are not acting, that gives us the indication that the choice is incorrect.

Pls check this blog using the search bar. I’ve written about mosquito bites.

  12. Nell says:

Would the stramonium and arsenicum be mixed or taken separate? Thx

  13. Mano says:

Plz tell me homeopathic treatement of cat bite.

      Here it is!

  14. Sarah says:

My 6 year old was bit by a dog. I started with ledum 30 immediately but 12 hours in switched to Arsenicum 200 mixed with Hypericum 200 after reading this post. I don’t have stramonium 200. His bite 24 hours later is swollen, a little pink and sore to touch. Is the arsenicum 200/hypericum 200 4x daily sufficient? Thank you!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I urge you to get medical care as soon as possible.

  15. Rachel says:

Would you have insisted a client of yours to take the remedies for a few additional weeks after any animal bite or only for that length of time if it is already infected? Thank you again Mrs. Calabrese! I am telling anyone who will listen about homeopathy & in the next breath, your website. 🙂

    1. Stephanie Mallet says:

My 2 year old got a puncture dog bite from our dog. I am considering the antibiotic because of the strips I am not able to flush the wounds out 3 times per day, so I worry about that. My question: in the survivalist guide, animal bite is hypericum/ars 200 every 3 hours, then 4 times for one month. The rabies one is stramonium/ars 200. I noticed this blog says stramonium. Should I follow the survivalist guide or this blog? The homeopath has done my child well. Two punctures and lots of scarped all over his little face and almost no swelling from the homeopathy. It would be his first drug and I am so sad about this, but without being able to clean – I just don’t have the exerperience/

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

If you have any concern about rabies, I’d work closely with your healthcare practitioner.

        1. Stephanie Mallet says:

Thank you Joette. I think I did not express myself properly. MY dog was vaccinated for rabies so we are quarantining in use, but we don’t think it is rabies. What I saw in the Survivalist is the stramonium/ars is a BP for rabies, but I see here it is also recommended for animal bites. I am wondering if the hypericum/ars is more appropriate for a dog bite in your opinion or the stramonium/ars. My son is doing very well, but I plan on using this protocol to be safe. We went to the hosptital.

          1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Actually, both protocols have a clinical history of acting.

  16. Kaika says:

Hi Joette. Thank you for all of this. If a bite is much worse than the one described and requires multiple stitches, where the flesh is really mangled, would you rely on the HyperArs 200 protocol alone to promote healing and handle the potential for infection and pain, OR might you consider adding other remedies, for example, arnica 200(?) or Hypericum 200(?) for pain, or cell salts, such as Ferr phos 6x, Kalimur 6x, and Calc sulf 6x e1-3H as they are good for lacerations? Do you like to keep those types of wounds dry or perhaps add a topical homeopathic?

  17. Rachel says:

    Mrs. Calabrese,

Would you consider this for deep cat scratches as well or only for bites (scratches new and not yet infected)?

    Thank you ~ Rachel

  18. Stan says:

    How beautifully said!

      THanks, Stan.
