My friend’s young son showed up to his music class one day with his face covered in bright red stickers. “I have Singing Pox,” he said proudly. “I got a spot for every song I sang.”

But a few days later, REAL red spots started popping up all over his face. He also had a low-grade fever, his nose was runny, the itchy rash continued to spread, and blisters began to appear – the classic signs of Chicken Pox.

Now his mom had something to sing about!

My friend was delighted that her son would be able to develop natural, lifelong protection from the Varicella virus that causes the disease. Her son, however, was not so delighted and kept telling her that he didn’t like having the “pokey spots.”

Chicken Pox has long been regarded as a childhood rite of passage and many moms actually seek out opportunities to expose their healthy children to the virus when they are young.

Childhood cases are generally mild and self-resolving, but Chicken Pox as a teen or adult can be much more difficult.

Contracting the virus as a child is the most opportune time to lay the foundations of robust health and immunity. And with homeopathy, the body receives the needed support and impetus for uprooting the illness, rather than suppressing symptoms with pharmaceuticals, which only push the illness deeper and create imbalances that wreak havoc in the body later in life.

No wonder homeopathy has been the “go-to” treatment for parents for over 200 years!

This is not the first time I’ve discussed this; you can read about Chicken Pox in one of my old newsletters here: https://www.joettecalabrese.com/newsletter/Mid_Feb_2012.pdf.

I also cover it in my recorded online course (and hefty manual), How to Raise a Drug Free Family.

But now, today I’ve added a Banerji Protocol for this normal childhood disease to add to your homeopathic arsenal.

This tried-and-true plan has the power to uproot the ailment while treating its symptoms at the same time. Have you ever heard of any other medicine that has that capacity?

I personally like using the Banerji’s method of employing Bryonia 30C (Apply the discount coupon code “Joette” at check-out for an additional 20% off!) every other day and Antimonium Crudum 6C and Thuja Occidentalis 30C, one dose every 3 hours alternately.

In no time at all, those itchy red spots will be gone, leaving vigorous natural immunity in their wake. I guarantee mothers will be singing the praises of homeopathy and sharing the word with their friends and relatives!

In fact, that’s all l ask of you in exchange for sharing my tips and strategies on this blog: that you pass along this information to everyone in your circle of influence.

Warmly,

P.S. I already know you will ask if there is a protocol for shingles, so stay tuned for next week’s blog when I answer that question!

I am a homeopath with a worldwide practice working with families and individuals via Zoom. I'm also a teacher and most importantly, a mom who raised my now-adult children depending on homeopathy over the last 31 years. I lived decades of my life with food intolerances, allergies, and chemical sensitivities until I was cured with homeopathy, so I understand pain, anxiety, and suffering. You may feel that your issues are more severe or different than anyone else’s, but I have seen it all in my practice and in my work in India. My opinion is that nothing has come close to the reproducible, safe and effective results that my clients, students and I have achieved with homeopathy.

Call today and learn how homeopathy might just be the missing piece in your health strategy.

  1. Sally Holdener says:

4 years ago our family was exposed to Pertussis (Whooping Cough). The only one of my four children at home, the last three of whom were completely unvaccinated, to contract Pertussis was my youngest son, who was 8 at the time. It took 2 days to find a doctor that would confirm the diagnosis by culturing a nasal swab, and confirm that his 11 year old brother did NOT contract it, nor anyone else in the family, I refused the antibiotic treatment, choosing to keep him out of school for 21 days and treating him with Pertussinum 30c. What I found most interesting was that this was the only of my children who never had the opportunity to strengthen his immune system with Chicken Pox. I haven’t heard of any Chicken Pox parties in a while. I’d still like to expose him so he can get through it now, rather than as an adult.

    1. Lorene says:

My unvaccinated 21 yr old son had whooping cough last winter. He had chicken pox pretty bad when he was 5 years old so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. My other two uvaccinated children who live at home still too also had it but not as bad as him. My youngest had Whooping cough the lightest and he also had the lightest case of chicken poxs when he had it.

  2. Marie says:

Help me find a case of chicken pox! Everyone is vaccinated!

    1. Andrea says:

And do if I do find a case to expose my daughter to, do I need to be certain is a true case of chicken pox, and not one as a result of vaccine? I’m assuming yes? Gets tricky…

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

I don’t know the answer to that question.

  3. Eileen says:

I didn’t vaccinate my four little ones, but they are quickly becoming not little anymore. I have yet been able to find the chicken pox club. I understand that the chicken pox is better to handle at a younger age but I am worried that they might not get it soon enough. My eldest is 11. Will this protocol take away the difficulty of contracting the virus at an older age?

  4. Rose says:

What about chicken pox scars? What can be given for them?

  5. Elaine says:

Yes, Joette…I too have twins this age and no exposure to the pox. Getting worried, I have same concern. Thx

  6. Leslie says:

I was exposed as a child but now as an adult have had shingles twice before 45 yrs old. It was my understanding that you couldn’t get shingles later on when you vaccinated your child that’s why I let my child get vaccinated. Shingles can be miserable, I don’t remember the pox being that bad and I wanted to spare him for later in life. Half the people I know have had shingles and dread like I do, another occurrence. Is there anything that will help with them?

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Stay tuned for next week’s blog will cover this.

    2. Brenda says:

You may have had shingles from being exposed to a child that was recently vaccinated…the vaccines shed the virus. Decades ago, people who had chicken pox as children, received a “booster shot”, (so-to-speak), from being exposed to kids that had the wild virus, and rarely if ever, got shingles. Now, after being exposed to kids that have received a vaccine (artificial), thousands of people are suddenly coming down with shingles…sometimes multiple times. Vaccines have truly altered the natural balance of things, and nothing works right now. Thank goodness for Homeopathy!!

  7. Lydia Grey says:

So glad to hear that you will cover Shingles too!. I had Chicken Pox as a child, and have had Shingles once, and hope to never get it again. But now I’ll know what to do if I do, once you you post on it.

  8. Heather Stein says:

I have had the same problem as other moms with finding chicken pox. I too would like to give my children natural immunity but I think this may be nearly impossible now. I am wondering, Joette, if you recommend homeoprophylaxis in a situation such as this? I’m considering getting the book that was recently published on the subject and using the recommended remedies for immunity.

    1. Andrea says:

What is the name of the book? I’d love to read it.

      1. Heather Stein says:

Andrea, the name of the book is “The Solution: Homeoprophylaxis: The Vaccine Alternative”. There are several other books on the subject available on Amazon, if you search for “homeoprophylaxis”.

  9. Martha says:

I was under the impression that a person who has a weakened immune system would be more “prone” to getting shingles. Perhaps this is incorrect thinking and even those with a strong immune system and/or vital force can get shingles???

  10. Laura says:

Can you use these remedies on a child under 2??? My little one is 19 months old.

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathic medicines are used for infants, the elderly, middle aged, dogs, cats, pregnant women, livestock…everyone!

  11. British says:

Like the magic of Santa, we woke to Chicken Pox on Christmas morning! 🙂 Quick question on these suggestions – for the Bryonia every other day, do you recommend 3 doses every other day or just 1 dose?

    1. Courtney Ingham says:

“I personally like using the Banerji’s method of employing (one dose of) Bryonia 30c every other day and Antimonium Crudum 6C and Thuja Occidentalis 30C, one dose every 3 hours alternately.”

      1. Debbie says:

I am confused. I looked up Joette and chicken pox and in an article she says “as with everything in homeopathy, the choice of remedy is determined by the presentation of symptoms, it is child specific, not disease specific.”

This seems to contradict the whole idea of Banjeri protocols.

Joette, would you please clarify? I have four kids with chicken pox right now and two are in their teens.

        Many thanks,
        Debbie

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

That article was posted years ago when I was still a silly old classical homeopath. I left it up because to remove it would be intellectually dishonest. There it is for all to see how I bought into that method for over 15 years.
‘Happy for your note to remind me that it’s time to make that correction.
Interesting. I haven’t heard of a case of chickenpox in years. This is why I’ve not re-addressed it.

          1. Debbie says:

I gave the 15 year old Bryonia and shortly afterward he developed a fever. Should I still give him a dose on Thursday?

I am a little gun shy as I tried to treat my 20 yr old two weeks ago as best as I knew how, but ended up having to resort to a prescription antiviral. I don’t want to have to go there again.

          2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

            I can’t personally advise you.
If you’re not a member of one of our online study groups, Gateway to Homeopathy, you might want to join where you’ll get a book and meet regularly with other mothers and grandmothers who will become your best friend in no time!
It’s the way I started 34 years ago.

  12. Elina Salo says:

How long it takes to be not contagious after taking those pills? And what about delivery ? How long it take to get them? Thank you

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

This hasn’t anything to do with contagion. Instead, its working with someone’s suffering while afflicted with chicken pox.

  13. AJ says:

If there are no complications should we let the normal virus run it’s course naturally to receive the full natural immunity? Is this protocol more for if it’s a bad case? Or you say do this from the start to prevent any complications and it still allows children to get a good immunity still? Thanks!

  14. Laura says:

    1. Are these remedies safe during pregnancy and 2. are there any additional recommendations for a pregnant woman exposed to chicken pox? The conventional recommendation is to get a shot, but that carries its own risks…thank you!

    1. Laura says:

I guess I should also clarify, I know typically, homeopathy is only employed once symptoms present, but if one member of the household has chicken pox, should any others, particularly the pregnant mother, start any part of the protocol prophylactically? ty 🙂

      1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

Homeopathy may also be used prophylactically but for chickenpox? I would hope that the mother had already been exposed as a child. However, given the world we live in today, this speaks to the grey area of naturally exposed immunity vs. artificially immunized.
More of the case would need to be discovered.

        1. Laura says:

It wasn’t on the vaccine schedule when the mother was a baby and she was never exposed naturally, either.

          1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

It’s my inclination in my own life to use medicines when they’re needed rather than just in case. But its a personal preference.

          2. Debbie says:

So, what about a child who has no blisters but is exhausted, sneezing and has definitely been exposed. Start treating with these preliminary symptoms?

          3. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

When we know the name of the disease, we use protocols that are specific to the disease.

    2. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH, RSHom(Na) says:

There are certain homeopathic medicines that need to be used with extra caution during pregnancy (ee last week’s blog) and these are not on the list. However, it always must be noted that all homeopathic medicines are indeed medicine and need to be approached with a gentle and judicious hand.

  15. Katie says:

Hi Joette, I’ve had good results with so many of the protocols you’ve recommended on this blog. My family and I have benefitted from all the information you’ve shared. Thank you so much. A question about the protocol: What does “one dose every 3 hours alternately” mean, in the above protocol for chicken pox? Does it mean, Take Antimonium Crud 6 and 3 hours later, take Thuja Occ. 30c, then Antimonium Crud 6 again 3 hours after that? I’m pretty sure my son is having chicken pox!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

      Yes.

      1. Katie says:

I am putting your protocol for chicken pox to use today. I would normally be very worried when any one of my kids get sick but with the advice on your blog, I feel like it will all be okay. Thank you very much for responding.

        1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

That’s what homeopathy does: it takes the fear out of normal illnesses.

          1. Katie says:

My son had itchy red blisters all over his body and face, and a fever, for just 1.5 days. After that, the sores flattened. It was over in 5 days. Except for the visible scabs, he’s completely fine. There were a few days of uncomfortable and intense itching, which an oatmeal and baking soda bath helped with. I’m just amazed and grateful. Thank you, Joette!

  16. Kris says:

My daughter came down with chickenpox in 1st grade age 6.
She is a fully UNvaccinated child. The school nurse called me 2-3 weeks beforehand to warn me it was “going around” school amongst vaccinated and unvaccinated children. I procrastinated intentionally so she would get them. As I remember I was the exact same age as she was when I got them. How bad could they be? She got a severe case, but got through them without homeopathy. I wish as a young parent I still had this remedy at hand. I would not put her through it again and she did end up with scarring. The fever was the worst and very concerning to say the least. I remember my self getting through it with flying colors a s a child, but she struggled the whole way. I attribute it to the vaccines other children were getting that she was exposed to virally. Parents, seriously have plan. It is no joke, the severity is way worse then when we were kids. Children can die from this. I would recommend having all of these homeopathics on hand. If you keep them in a dark place they don’t go bad. Monitor you child closely with the fever. She was never out of my sight for days! I have the benefit of being a stay at home mom. I am blessed and God was good.
She returned to school with scabs but we did it. She has a robust immune system now for sure. My next endeavor is to be sure we know the protocol for shingles. The commercials for vaccinations are getting to me , but they are a constant reminder to have a plan FROM NOW ON!

    1. Laurie says:

Totally agree with you. The virus kids are picking up is from vaccinated kids they sit next to all day at school. It is so much worse than what I remember as a kid. It can be extremely serious. I wish I would have realized this before switching from home school to public school.

  17. Jessica says:

At what point in the process of Chicken Pox do we use this protocol?

  18. Toby says:

My son is now 32. He had a very light case of chicken pox – maybe 4-7 spots. Is this enough for immunity? If not and he gets chicken pox as an adult, does he use the same protocol as a child would? He is now married and his PA is recommending a chicken pox vaccine. I say, NO!

    1. Joette Calabrese, HMC, CCH says:

The age of the person is irrelevant. Its condition and symptom specificity that we consider here.

  19. Laurie says:

Joette, in your prior instructions for chicken pox, you mentioned Mercurius for kids who are sweaty and worse at night…but which Mercurius did you mean? Sol? Vivus? Which potency? Since you have updated your advice, would you still consider Mercurius if you were already doing the Banerji protocol, but the child was still sweaty and worse at night with intense itching? Thank you!
